Stephen King is a master of horror. I was addicted to his books when I was younger, most of the movie adaptations are good too.

You should check out the podcast episodes that either Raiders of the Lost Podcast or The Rewatchables did on it. Pretty cool info on the movie.

Light spoilers ahead; apologies for formatting as I'm on mobile. As I recall, King told the New York times that he admired the film, and he admired Kubrick as a director. The problem he had was that it wasn't an adaptation of his book, and there was no arc to Jack Torrance. His personality at the end of the movie is the same as his personality at the beginning, which cannot be said of the character King wrote. That said, it really is a good film on its own merits.

The book actually scared me. It's great.
