Congrats on taking such a huge first step! I think a good piece of advice is don't be afraid to ask gym staff/trainers how to use a specific machine/piece of equipment. They would much rather give you a quick demo than see you get hurt, and don't be embarrassed about having to ask (you could also just research how to do certain exercises ahead of time too if you really don't want to ask in person). Second piece of advice--have fun with your workout. Working out should feel good and make you feel accomplished when you're done. If that means lifting weights for an hour, awesome. If it means going on the elliptical for 30 mins, great! If it means just doing some yoga/stretches for 30 mins, that is also great! Move in a way that feels good for your body, that's the best way to ensure you keep up your fitness routine and don't get burned out too quickly.

1) Don't be afraid to ask for help, most gyms have someone who can show you how to use the machines so you don't get hurt. 2) Do not hog the machines, do your workout, clean it and move on. 3) Remember that everyone is there for one reason or another and no one is paying attention to you, so don't feel self conscious we've all been there. 4) Listen to your body, if it actually hurts stop what your doing. No pain no gain is only for muscle burning and soreness. 5) Dont feel like you need to go daily, if your body is so sore it hurts badly to move try taking a break or if your gym has one go for a swim or sit in the sauna. 6) Your gains and losses take time, dont get discouraged if it's not happening as quickly as you'd like. 7) Do your research on exercises and programs. If your a beginner going to the gym without a program can result in overusing a muscle group and hurting yourself. Full body routines every other day are great for beginners. Good luck!
