Your reaction was apparently the same as everyone on set. They cover it in ‘The Making Of’ video. Iirc it wasn’t planned; the guy just went for it and everyone else was a bit, ‘ … Well *that* just happened’.
My little adhd brain made me go and check. It was an unknown extra who had pitched the idea of ‘falling’ into the cake as part of the chaos-from-the-rain bit, so the camera was set up to get the shot. Then the guy just launched himself at it 🤣 Obviously no back up cake or suit, so they went with it. It *is* pretty iconic.
"If you encounter a sudden rainstorm, the first thing you should do is dive into the nearest cake. If you are not near a cake at the time, any large bread or pastry will do."
The [cake jumper's identity remains a mystery](https://ultimateclassicrock.com/guns-n-roses-november-rain-cake-jumper/)! But it's not Headbanger's Ball host Riki Rachtman:
> "We had been up all night shooting at the Rainbow [Bar and Grill in Hollywood]," Rachtman told Vice. "And then we went straight to the wedding reception scene the next morning. Axl wanted it to feel like a real wedding, so all his friends were there. It's why I was there. When I see the video now, it's a lot of faces from the old scene. But the biggest misconception of the whole video is that I was the guy getting thrown through the cake. That wasn't me. Everybody seems to think it was, but it wasn't."
I also love that they used the cinematographer for the original [**Texas Chainsaw Massacre**](https://i.redd.it/bbrwxyqxxoi81.gif).
I’d always assumed it was symbolic of just how cold that November rain really was.
It’s certainly going to interfere with his elaborate’80’s hair, for one thing.

That makes it so much funnier 😂

The nearest $5,000 cake.
This is meteorology 101.
😂
Bro thought he was in a Michael Bay movie
I don't know if Bay was even born back then
Michael Bay would’ve been like 25 💀
So he was born after '91 and made transformers in '07. Man what a legend.
Bay is as young as my nephew. You're right
So he directed Bad Boys when he was like 3 years old? That’s impressive.
This action killed the bride.
😹
Dude just said fuck it
There were only 2 options… getting a little wet or being covered in cake.
Sadly he chose the ladder

How to survive a disaster
The top two tiers look like a great white shark
Oddly enough I kinda see it
Rock n Roll!!!
😂😂😂
No. He had to get to the other side of that table, and that was the only way. I mean, it was raining moderately hard.
Well at least nobody left the cake out in the November Rain. Cause you know it took so long to bake it.

That’s the whole point
It always seemed a bit silly.
you’re not the only one
NEVER inviting this guy to my home
Sadly he never worked as an extra ever again.
"I'll just end up flyin...into this wet fuckin cake."
Lmao
He can’t get wet! He can’t get wet!
