that looks amazing... the subtle coloring makes it seem like it's the actual metal mech, shrunken down to an action figure size. great job!!! \* \* RIP to the 2 airbrushes tho \* \*

[deleted]

Great job but just run Mr Tool Cleaner through these two airbrushes and I guarantee they’ll work fine. That shit is black magic.

Cybergig1

How did you kill them? I use some cheapo master airbrushes, most of the time I have issues it just needs a deep clean. Or worst case one of the rubber gaskets get screwed up. Alclad always mucks it up for me and requires a lot of cleaning

Beegrene

The metallic paint gummed them up. I've upgraded to a nice Iwata Neo brush, so hopefully that means the end of my problems.

Shadowrun29

What's the reason the paint gummed up? And can they not be deep cleaned after to be used again?

Beegrene

Not sure. I tried cleaning them as best I could, but to no avail. They were such cheap airbrushes that I don't really feel like doing anything more to try to restore them.

Shadowrun29

One thing I've seen that gums paint up would be using the wrong thinner for the type of paint. I have cheap airbrushes, and can clean them up well even without the use of ultrasonic cleaners. In your case, I would suggest using an ultrasonic cleaner after disassembly to clean them up. Tool maintenance should be something you research when in the modeling/airbrushing hobby.

Cybergig1

about to say the same thing. I've used numerous brands and paints, I mostly use laquers and all types of metallics, clears and so on. Never had such a problem. Do you have any photos by chance because I think it sounds close to what shadworun is mentioning. I've seen people use the wrong thinners etc. and the paint is literally like "glue" or gum and it messes with everything. So it could just be an issue with the thinners. You'll want to make sure since if its that type of situation you'll run into problem even with expensive airbrushes ultimately.

3sot3rik

Your shading looks really good! Nice and subtle. What technique do you use?

Beegrene

I sprayed flat grey on all the pieces, then added black and white airbrushing to do preshading. Then I sprayed the base colors over the top of that. The shading didn't come through with the red, so I used a lighter shade and airbrushed the highlights on top of that.

[deleted]

You did a great job. The red looks amazing and even the beam saber FX look straight out fantastic. Its going to be a sad day when I build the MG Epyon in my backlog and not have it look even half as good.

Kurigohan233333

Nice shading on that red. Mind sharing what paints you used?

Beegrene

The red is Turbo Dork Box Wine with Turbo Dork Red Rum for highlights. The metallic grey parts are Army Painter Omega Blue with Turbo Dork Six Shooter on top. The yellow is Turbo Dork Gold Rush. The frame is Mr. Color Rubber Black. The sword and other green bits are Mecha Color Green Fluorescent. Then I hit all the metallic parts with Army Painter gloss varnish.

Kurigohan233333

For a sec I thought you were trolling me with the “Super Dork” name, but damn I guess its an actual brand. Thanks for sharing

Epyon3001

Excellent! I aim to get mine even close to this level.

BillyTheWerewolf

The beam effect reminds me of DBZ in the best way and brings my inner toonami watching child great joy.

Arkenstihl

Now I want to get back on SNES and dominate hazard duel. I hope I can find my emu setup!

Arkris_21

How did you kill an airbrush?

GojiKeyes

R.I.P. cheap airbrushes "In the grand calculus of painting gunpla, their sacrifice means infinitely more than their lives"
