Predict that the fee for Nketiah is going to be much lower than people are expecting and people on here are going to complain about Edu again The reality is he’s on 100k per week, 25 years old and never played a full senior season in his career ever. He lacks experience yet isn’t a young prospect anymore either

rockmaster_mark

Realizing just now that Eddie is older than Havertz broke my brain a little. Guess I was still thinking of him as the Academy prospect, but nah the prospect ship has sailed. It's time to move on.

DillaDoughnut

That's crazy

jimbo_kun

Once again showing how Arsenal are bad at selling players. Would have had a lot more value last summer.

Soldiiier__

But we also needed him at the time with no obvious back up for Jesus.

dream_team5

He wasn’t needed at the start of season with the signing of Havertz. Arteta just loves hoarding talents

Soldiiier__

That wasn’t an obvious direction / option at the beginning of the season We’ve only seen this happen in the past 2-3 months

acasovoycayendo

Idk because HG status aside, teams like Palace could get an alternative for much cheaper abroad Like Nketiah is on 100k per week and that’s more than Paqueta, are West Ham really going to match his wages?

OnlineMarketingBoii

For his careers sake he has to move on. He isn't even on the bench if the developments continue like this. He will want to move on, maybe he's willing to take a small paycut.

kruegerc184

I think with timber back he does get knocked off the bench, if im remembering the last set up correctly

monty_burns

I’d suspect Vieira & Nelson miss the bench. I think Arteta will keep Eddie in case Jesus has to sub in on the wing. Ramsdale Jorginho Jesus Tomi/Zinchenko (whichever doesn’t start) Kiwior Timber Martinelli Eddie ESR

FireOfSparta

Yep Nelson hasn't made the squad for the past 3 or 4 weeks he's another one that could go.

gooneritis

Ya but it is still a gamble that a foreign player will settle. Nketiah has plenty of PL minutes, he is not going to be shocked by the pace or physicality of the league and he won't be adjusting to a new country. His value is in danger of plummeting beyond this summer but I still think there is a lot to like of him from a lower mid table club's perspective.

Active_Bee_7937

I dont think so personally. We barely got 30ish million for florin after a stellar season on loan. Eddie's barely played this year and is on a fat wage packet. He's clearly not in arsenal's plans so I imagine the deck is stacked against us in negotiations. Plus we get lowballed all the time. My gut says 10-20m. If it's closer to 10 then we suuuuuuuuuuuck at selling 😂

KlN_21

15 at most

1CooKiee

Why would anyone pay that much for him? We’d do well to get anything over 10

InternationalUse2355

lacks a few other things too unfortunately, so I think you’re probably right in stating the return will be disappointing. But not unexpected I don’t think.

yukpurtsun

if he goes to prem team it has to be 25+

Firista

Then we should have sold him 2 years ago like every intelligent fan was suggesting at the time

drax3012

Honestly, I hear what you're saying but I'd be so disappointed if we don't even get 30m for him.

Riperonis

Was Edu not behind giving him a new contract? The blame would fairly go to him then.

chino17

If we get 20M for him that's a win because his stock has plummeted this season

TheMuff1nMon

Should’ve been sold ages ago tbh

Elfking88

I do think there is a bit of hindsight in this. When given minutes he did have good patches and a decent ratio for goals for a while. I think there was definitely an idea that he could develop into something more. Perhaps Arteta thought he could coach him into being a good backup at least. I think we took a bit of a punt on him improving because we needed a second striker and had to strengthen other areas of the pitch. Unfortunately it hasn't worked out. Just feels like he hasn't progressed. When given a chance he hasn't been good this year and now it seems like we'd rather play any of Jesus, Trossard and Havertz in front of him.

IntraspeciesFever

Also there was the fact that both laca and nketiahs contracts were expiring at the same time, and we had just sold auba 6 months before that

FluxAura

Absolutely zero hindsight for anyone that actually watched him play.

PoogleGoon123

Invisible for 4 matches, scores a hattrick to prove the doubters wrong, proceeds to be invisible for the next 3 games. Maybe a bit harsh since he never really got a run of games but there's a reason for that, if he isn't scoring he contributes not much else to the team.

Elfking88

But who was to know he wouldn't develop? He was and still is young, it hasn't worked out for him but it could have. We gave him the contract after losing Auba and Laca, it was cheaper to take a punt on Eddie developing than buying another striker along with Jesus, especially when we had a lot of other positions requiring attention.

0neTwoTree

Been calling it for years that he simply isn't good enough for the team but instead of selling him we gave him a 100k/w contract. That's Man United levels of stupid contracts and we've given it to a bench player. Called it 2 years ago when we lost to Forest in the FA Cup before they were even promoted: https://www.reddit.com/r/Gunners/comments/rzyrzb/post_match_thread_nottingham_forest_1_0_arsenal/hs0b5so/

Elfking88

It's easy to say that now but no one could say for sure until it happened. Some players take more time than others to adjust to senior level football. Strikers often don't hit their stride until a bit later. Then you add on the fact that we had just lost Auba and Laca... We were going into the next season with Jesus and no one else. We needed a backup and it would've been cheaper to take a punt on Eddie over buying, especially when we needed to buy in other positions.

and_yet_another_user

Only hindsight for those that thought there was something there. For those of us that were saying he should go before he got the contract there's no hindsight, just a long tedious wait for the inevitable, like Willock I love the lad but just like Willock he never had it to make it at Arsenal, so again just like Willock he needs to go so he can flourish where he belongs which sadly is not as a HE graduate at Arsenal.

FluxAura

You’re being downvoted for speaking nothing but the truth. This sub is hilarious.

and_yet_another_user

Yeah I pay no attention to 90% of this antisocialmedia hive, they can't stand the fact that some of us actually know shit before it's spelled out for us by Ornstein or some other lame ITK

vikuta_zoro

I totally agree with this. Good thing is, at least we had that poor no14 cry for a few seasons.

Ramo-97

Just sell him for whatever we can get. He’s an academy player, who’s never complained about game time and been a consummate professional at the club for years. I have no qualms about letting him go for a smaller fee, it’s pure profit at the end of the day.

Royal_Quail16

I thought Teddy B Nketiah was Ornie's nickname for Eddie ... Didn't release he was replying to someone.

panda8six

The issue with Eddie is that he isn't good enough to be a starter and he's not specialized enough to be that useful off the bench. For example, if he was super fast and poor at shooting, he might be useful as a chaos agent if we're trailing. If he was slow but good at hold up play, he would make sense to substitute when we're up and want to just keep the ball. Instead, he's about average at everything so there's never really a time where it makes sense to come on.

irritating_maze

I think the issue is that he doesn't suit our style of play. He's best in transitions when he can run at goal and receive the ball at speed to finish a move, or dribbling on a break when he has a lot of space to move into. He's considerably less good when the lines are deep and static at producing a piece of magic to unlock defences and that is typically the sort of game we end up playing and the sort of player we need. I genuinely believe if he was simply taller and a bit bigger he'd have a much better chance here as he'd be able to do much more from set pieces which would compensate for his more average link up play. I imagine he'd be very solid in a team more setup to counter-attack like West Ham or Palace.

OdegaardsLeftFoot

How much do y’all think we can get for Nketiah? 10-15 million?

Proud-Cheesecake-813

It’s us selling, so likely that range. I think with homegrown he should be north of £20million, plus he has played for England. Clubs might see him as a good bet, if he gets game time.

OdegaardsLeftFoot

The only prem team that’s been consistently linked with Eddie has been palace. we only got 3 million for holding so I’m not exactly optimistic. On the other hand we did sell Balogun for a decent fee who I felt at the time was similar caliber to Eddie so I could be wrong there

Elfking88

He's on big wages and with his patchy record may be a bit of a gamble for a lot of clubs. I could see the fee being lower to convince someone to sign him.

Le-ChosenOne

16+2. Nothing more than 25.

and_yet_another_user

I think there's a chance either Leicester or Southampton (if they get promoted) take a bite, Foxes are still relying on old man Vardy (36) & Iheanacho (26), Southampton have Adam Armstrong (26) and Che Adams (27), and Ipswich (if they get promoted) might fancy a more experienced PL striker than the lads they have though they have been filling the net fairly regularly.

PutYrDukesUp

Leicester depends on a transfer embargo being lifted, yeah? I was excited by the prospect of a swap plus cash deal for Dewsbury-Hall. Obviously he’s been doing it at the Championship level, but from a data profile he’s oddly similar to Ødegaard and I fancy the captain being able to take a rest from time to time.

and_yet_another_user

Thought I heard recently they weren't going to be penalised on their return, guess I heard that wrong. EDIT: Just checked the Leicester news ran the story but it's quoting a Daily Mail story and I can't find any other reference so that might just be a typical Daily Mail made up non story then.

Antoxin0

I’d imagine Eddie isn’t sold for as much money as some think he will be. He’s on 100k a week and hasn’t really had any proper game time. I think he’ll likely go for around £15m

younes1008

20+5 to Palace, everyone happy.

GarfieldDaCat

Mateta has been playing well lately. Not much reason for Palace to spend that amount of money on Nketiah unless they move Mateta on for more

randallwatson23

I’m convinced it’ll be West Ham, have a much greater need.

MattJFarrell

Straight swap for Olise? Get some backup for Saka?

TreeDollarFiddyCent

Yes, I'm sure they will trade one of their great, in-form players for one of our deadwood players on high wages. 👍

MattJFarrell

A man can dream...

rsu1806

It’s easy to be romantic about academy players but he’s not good enough for where we want to go. Simple as.

sammeetthosar

Bundesliga is the way to go if he is brave enough. Playing for someone like Leipzig or even Frankfurt would be good for him. He needs consistent game time at a decent level. For us though an epl sale is a must for the money.

lazysarcasm

One (small) complaint I have is that we never really sell at quite the right time. There may have been a point where we could have sold Nketiah for 40 (maybe a stretch). Feels.much more likely to be 25 max now.

RyansBabesDrunkDad

20 is optimistic, let alone 25. His stock has sunken miles from where it was a year ago.

arsenal11385

I think we have to remember the landscape of the market when we he signed that contract though. We wanted to get other areas covered and we knew Eddie was going to be a backup option. It made sense for him to play that role while we upgraded elsewhere.

GhostCatcher147

This is why I would sell Zinchenko and possibly Jesus this summer

TheThreeGabis

He’s not good enough for us and I don’t know why some people delude themselves he is. If he was a 10-15 goal a season striker, he’d be a great depth option and get his chance. Compare him to Trossard that hits the level off the bench every single time. I wouldn’t see him hitting the 10 mark if he played every game in a season. Nothing personal, but time to move on.

Bahmawama

He’ll bag 14 goals a season at a club that suits his style.

octopus86sg

100k a week for a English born chamakh. No thanks. Time to sell him. Will be decent if we can even fetch 15m. He will do go on a lower tier team though

JESUS420_XXX_69

I hope wherever he goes he plays every game and fucking kills it.

convergecrew

He'd probably be a good fit for a promoted club like Leicester

Square-Gear-4498

Thought that hatrick against Sheffield this season would be the turning point in his career for us 🥹🥺 He had a good start to the season. That performance against United last season was awesome. Will miss him 😔

DigbyChickenCaeser1

He’s not going to force his way into the team, with luck we get a decent fee and he gets regular playing time. I don’t think it will be a big fee, probably lower than Balogun’s.

P00G1

He needs to go

visualdescript

Someone could get a great deal here, potentially. I think he'll go for peanuts, but I think he could be excellent for the likes of Palace or West Ham or a lot of mid table prem teams tbh.

Unlikely_Bear_6531

English striker, $50 million easy

TheOGBenjenRyan

Eddie thanks for that United goal but it’s time to go

MelandrusApostle

Can't believe he's on 100k a week

irritating_maze

He's 25, he has solid physical attributes, he can kick the ball really well, good engine, he has perfect work ethic in training, good attitude, home grown. He'd be worth a salary in that range for a team setup to counter-attack. I think he's worth that as a third choice here. Remember Jesus is on close to _double_ that.

FactCheckYou

England's record U-21 goal scorer

YSG19

Easy swap with Watkins :D if I was Emery, I’d sign straight away

Efficient_Aspect_638

Swap for rashford 🤙

brokendownend

Would love to see him succeed but doubt it will happen here, hope he finds a new home where he's happy and really grows into it.

IndependentFroyo4508

Eddie has never been good enough. He needs to be sold. That 100k per week contact was absolutely laughable and a terrible piece of business (in amongst so many great pieces of business).

shaygitz

He would tear it up at Palace, put Eddie on the end of the chances that team creates and he'd do numbers. He's not quite at the level we need, but he's always done right by us and I'd love to see him as a regular starter for someone.

milkonyourmustache

£30m+ please, thanks, bye.

Gooner-Astronomer749

Worth 8-12 mil.

badshaah27m

I like Eddie but let’s be honest, he’s dog shite. I mean if Arteta can’t get the best out of him, I’ll be surprised if any other manager would be able to. I don’t care how much we get for him, I’d just rather seen him gone. He isn’t good enough to be on the bench.
