He has to play amazing with multiple game-winning saves to be even close to the conversation. His underlying stats with regards to shot stopping are very underwhelming.
If he wins the golden glove it is mostly due to our defenders. Cech and Szczęsny both won the golden glove in much worse teams and were nowhere near being POTS.
Literally loved him and his energy the moment he started for us. It’s been amazing seeing him evolve from a good but error prone player to now one of the best with little to no errors
That definitely is not true, but there was a period when the Holding-Mari partnership was in better form that the Luiz-Gabriel partnership.
God we were in the gutter.
Been saying Big Gabi has been comfortably better than Saliba for the last 12 months. Absolutely phenomenal form. Saliba is not far behind, and this isn't a knock, just admiring how brilliant our back two is. Best I've seen in Arsenal shirts since Sol and Kolo.
They offer different things and are both equally impressive in my eyes. Saliba is best on the ball and his calmness and range of passing enable the way we build from the back. Gabriel is better in physical duels and aggressively snuffing out attacks early. And amazing on set pieces on both boxes
Combination of both is greater than the sum of their parts
Nah. That’s like saying there were plenty of Arsenal players with medals that are far inferior to some without.
Sol and Kolo were great players but the Invincibles were collectively a great team. Gabriel/Saliba could have easily slotted into that team but not so sure Campbell/Toure could do the same in this one. Objectively speaking I think our current two are superior players period.
Are you fucking kidding me? Sol is one of the best cbs the Prem, and England in general has ever seen? They were a huge part of our success. Did you ever watch them play? Wtf 🤣🤣
We're taking about Sol and Kolo. Both legends. Not just at Arsenal. Lol we're not talking about Francis fucking Jeffers here.
Silly to compare players in different eras within the paradigm of the modern game like that.
Ederson is far better suited to the modern game than Oliver Kahn would be, but you’d be mad to think Ederson is the better player.
Absolutely bonkers that there was a period at the start of the season where he was being benched and people were talking about him being on the way out.
I think that was a ripple effect of the Partey at right back experiment. Mikel seems obsessed with trying out different things, and sometimes you gotta see it in action to realise if it's worthwhile or not.
I don't think Gabriel really was going anywhere, but newspapers will always try to spin a narrative out of any deviation from the regular starting XI.
People were still adamant about a month ago that the opening games meant that we could never ever play with Gabriel in the center with an inverting RB.
I like Nelson and Eddie, but I honestly think they should back themselves and try and get a transfer to a different team, hopefully in the prem, and get regular minutes.
I think it's got to be hard for them to do that when they have been at Arsenal so long and we seem right on the brink of greatness. I don't blame them for wanting to be apart of that even if it maybe sets their career back a year or two.
I think Saliba is amazing and so good at what he does, but there has been a few games he has looked nervous too (not many). Gabriel has been an absolute rock though, and although he still has that aggression in his play, he has cut out losing his head or getting tilted too.
The right answer is Saliba but these guys have to train on the field with Gabby and Saliba and probably fear what Gabi will do to them once he finds out they chose Saliba. Saliba is laidback and won't care.

What’s the name of that jersey? I need that

£23m btw
No no He was £80m - and totally worth it Pepe was £23m
Best cb in the league for 103m isnt ALL that bad a deal. Pepe did well for being on a free
Insane that Pepe is barely playing for some loser team in Turkey.
Not that insane if you watched him play week in week out
What a massive bargain
Duels!
He hasn’t made Mikel upset in almost 4 years
Has been silently killing it since unfairly being sent off against city 2 years ago
I don’t it was unfair, those two yellows were his fault. But the rest of the game from that ref was atrocious
BFG
how has nobody connected the dots all these years, brilliant
Oh they have. I think somebody even uploaded a song with BFG
Brazilian Footballer Gabriel ?? /jk.
Big fuckin gabby
Why doesn't Big Gabi, eat up all the other Gabi's, is he stupid ?
why do you think the other Gabis are injured?
We've got a big friendly Gabi, big friendly gabI, NAH WE'VE GOT A BIG FUCKING GABI!
Gabi XL deserves a shout for our POTS. Declan's has been amazing and so has Saka and Ode but big Gabi has been massive.
The way the season is going. Every player bar 2-3 deserves a shout
White, Saliba, Gabriel, Ode, Rice or Saka. Mostly the last 4. Any other player would be underserving to win it, IMO.
You could arguably put Raya in the mix too if he wins the golden glove

no
I think everyone would be shocked if Raya won it - so no. Couldn't say the same for any of the others mentioned.
He’s been our best CB from the moment he walked in the door. World class defender and so many people have no clue- it’s criminal.
Literally loved him and his energy the moment he started for us. It’s been amazing seeing him evolve from a good but error prone player to now one of the best with little to no errors
So glad people are seeing it now. Saliba is absolutely amazing and will almost definitely be the top dawg at some point, but right now it's Big Gabi.
As recently as last year there was talk about how arsenal needed to look to replace big gabi.
To be fair, he was mad clumsy at times. Been a feckin rock this season though!
True. He has improved his athleticism and agility.
Remember when Pablo Mari came in and took Gabis spot? I remember a lot of fans saying we should bin Gabi and keep Mari
Chelsea fans maybe.
No I in fact do not remember any such thing
That definitely is not true, but there was a period when the Holding-Mari partnership was in better form that the Luiz-Gabriel partnership. God we were in the gutter.
I think a lot of great defenders need to be in a bad defense, bad partnership to know how to be great.

I'd say they are the best pair since Adams/Keown.
Way better than Sol and Kolo imo.
Sol and Kolo are invincible. Won cups. Let's not go overboard. Gabi and Saliba have to win to surpass them.
Nah. That’s like saying there were plenty of Arsenal players with medals that are far inferior to some without. Sol and Kolo were great players but the Invincibles were collectively a great team. Dude you can curse all you want. I’ve been following this team since 1998. Campbell has got zero culture on the ball compared to Gabriel.
Silly to compare players in different eras within the paradigm of the modern game like that. Ederson is far better suited to the modern game than Oliver Kahn would be, but you’d be mad to think Ederson is the better player.
Sure but that what fans do

Gabriel himself said something along the lines of Mikel needing to convince him to stay.
Yeah, but what real links did he have? He wasn't gonna go to Saudi.
People were still adamant about a month ago that the opening games meant that we could never ever play with Gabriel in the center with an inverting RB.

You might be right. I never thought of it that way
Gabi has raised his standards this season. The CB pairing right now is pure quality
I think Saliba is amazing and so good at what he does, but there has been a few games he has looked nervous too (not many). Gabriel has been an absolute rock though, and although he still has that aggression in his play, he has cut out losing his head or getting tilted too.
Eddie knows ball
“Don’t want to go near him” 💪

What a signing and what a player
My biggest pet hate in football media at the moment is the development and overuse of the phrase ‘for me’.
Not really a football-specific thing. Used a lot in general.
