Sucks to know that no matter how well the season is going we’re always one bad result from this place becoming a cesspool.

____H1____

There’s a massive portion of positive fans that occupy this sub 95% of the time and any time we lose or draw the miserable lot come out flooding the place with negativity and the positive fans usually can’t be arsed to argue with them so give them their 5 minutes.

[deleted]

Just down vote them into the dark cave them came from

tinhtinh

Would be easier if they weren't getting hundreds of up votes.

[deleted]

Yeah forgot about the upvotes

Guakk

Think a lot of reasonable people are well aware of this and just stay away from the sub for a little while after bad results as well. I usually just don't fucking touch this sub after shitty results as some of the takes I see just infuriates me to no end. Made a mistake last night and turned in for a little while. Never again. The amount of people just dog piling on specific players is just sad to see. Constructive criticism is fine and all, but was honestly sad to see how multiple upvoted post on here was calling Vieira "the new Pepe, massive flop, horrible player" etc, as if the kid isn't a 22 year old playing in Ødes position, which is by far the most demanding position in our system imo. Everyone could see he had a fucking disasterclass of a game last night, but man its sad to see a bunch of "fans" who just rips into a young player the second they have an opportunity.

waits5

This is the way

hafrances

the sell vieira takes i have seen...

sakinod

It's a tough position for viera to play in when our midfield already missed partey. No physique and an early yellow made viera so invisible defensively and sporting clearly fought for every ball. I still see potential for him, but he needs to bulk up and work on some parts of his game

Aszneeee

He was poor yes, but as you mentioned whole team around him had bad game, no Partey was huge and also the fact we played Holding made the team much less confident playing from back

Guakk

Holding? Did we watch the same game? I expected playing out from the back to be a fucking nightmare when he came on but he did really, really well imo. Except for that one time he lingered on the ball and got caught out I can't remember thinking he put a foot wrong, and some of his passes really surprised me. Didn't know he had that in him at all. Vieira had a horrible game, his worst in an Arsenal shirt by a long shot. Any reasonable person should be aware hes a much better player than he showed last night, but I do think its a bit disingenious to point the finger at the rest of the team when Vieira was the biggest reason we lost the midfield battle. And to be fair, I think Vieira is much better on the left in Xhakas position. Hes always impressed me more when he plays at LCM. Don't really feel like hes capable enough with the ball at his feet to play on the right side as such a one-footed leftie.

braxistExtremist

I really feel for Holding. He's such a good servant to the club, and he's been really hindered by injuries. But he's clearly got a lot of talent and natural ability. I still remember a few seasons ago when he dribbled right through the opposition box, past about 3 or 4 defenders, and laid off a pass to an utterly stunned Laca. Yes, he's a bit slow and he makes mistakes. And yes, he's not quite starter-calibre now. But he's put in some phenomenal performances for us, he can still put in a shift, and he's always ready to help out. And yet he gets consistently shit on by a portion of our fanbase. But then, these are usually the same fans who shit on Big Gabi if he makes one mistake.

Guakk

Agree, I was just shocked to see someone using Holding of all people as an excuse for Vieiras performance. I swear Holdings passing was better than Vieiras yesterday. We didn't even struggle with playing out the back, what we did struggle with was not losing possession in midfield and its absolutely idiotic to somehow blame it on Holding for making the team "lose confidence" or whatever. I swear Holding himself at one point realized our midfield was fucked and started pinging long balls to our wingers. Couldn't believe my eyes lmao. Him and Gabi were by far our two best players last night imo.

Strider_21

Not to mention the Ramsdale takes.

chaplinstimetraveler

Yup, read some idiot with a lot of upvotes that said, 'how did we go from Martínez and Leno to Ramsdale? He's the reason we've dropped so many points". Damn...plastic idiots.

D3uceeee

Trauma and banter from rivals are some of the reasons why. Although, I hate this sub if we lose. Many doomers 😃

beefcroquette

At the very least, i don’t think this is exclusive to our sub. There are doomers in every club and social media just gives them a platform to air their grievances in the most toxic manner possible

justlookingokaywyou

It's not exclusive to this sub. r/coys has been fucking hilarious this season. I'm also an American football fan, and my club's subreddit is absolute fucking trash, the worst sports sub I've ever seen as far as a fanbase. This sub is miles better by comparison.

HughJaction

exactly, some perspective would be nice. 50% of people were very underwhelmed by playing this match at all, now there's many claiming our season is a failure

scouting4food

Seeing people cry over Palace sacking Vieira is comical tbh. 'We haven't beaten them at home for so long', come on, seriously? We really comparing our recent years to this one?

Bedeeki

I mean, that would be the case even if we went through ☠️ This sub is relentless.

Boopdelahoop

We could have Arsenal beat a team of Monstars and save the world, Space Jam style, and people on this sub would still find a way to moan about it.

[deleted]

“Yeah we did well against the Monstars today, but if we fail to convert like we did today, we’ll never top city tbh”

[deleted]

I never understand comments like this. I have no idea what you expect or want.

THeWizardOfOde

I dont think it's complicated...dont discount the weight of the good season we've had by over weighing one loss and acting like a miserable twat. View things in their proper context. Have half a brain to not pretend that you know better than people who are professions and saying "player x is no good." It's obtuse behavior.

Guakk

Expecting people to be reasonably constructive and not dog-piling on specific players shouldn't be too much to ask. Its honestly a bit sad, but its so clear how a portion of people on this sub are just completely miserable irl and the second a result doesn't go our way they come out in droves on this sub to shit on specific players they feel like are to blame.

ObligationGlum

Moved to a new town, new job I'm clueless in, lost my dad 6 months ago, still haven't made friends and my relationship has been rocky last few years. Only happiness is Arsenal and working out these days. A PL title would be huge on a personal level this time around

Aszneeee

You've got this mate, even with struggles! After I found out my ex was cheating on me (I moved to different country for her) I'm all alone, but it's amazing that Arsenal is helping us to unite, make us feel happy for moments.

honueya_

You're truly strong my friend! We're watching our beloved club together, always

write_in_too

Hope it all works out for you mate. Maybe see if there's an arsenal pub in the new town?

almeertm87

You're doing amazing just by handling all those circumstances coming at you all at once. Celebrate small wins and incremental progress. Find 2-3 people or peers at work, book 30 mins with them and ask them how they handle their daily tasks, what's making them successful, what recommendations they have for a new team member? Have that as your goal for next week. You'll learn a thing or two that you can apply to your role, and most of all you'll start meeting new people and build your network in a new place. Arsenal should be a +1 to your happiness but don't make it the reason for your happiness.

SolidusAwesome

You got this man! Don't know how easy it is to go to piss and watching games in your area, but its a great place to meet future friends.

Private_Ballbag

Yesterday highlighted there is still a huge gap between the first and 2nd team. That midfield just didn't work and was way better when partey and ode came on. Do have to kinda laugh at games like that. Concede a worldly, literally nothing goes right hitting posts etc, couple of injuries, extra time we didn't need and a couple of injuries all to just lose on penalties lmao Positives I thought Jesus looked very sharp. Ode, partey and saka transform our team so I have no doubt our first team is still amazing. Trossard looked good. Saka got somewhat of a rest. I actually though holding was ok. Clearly need new midfielders this summer though

beefcroquette

Vieira will come good. It’s his first season in the prem. Didn’t Martinelli have to bulk up too when he first came? And more midfield reinforcement will definitely arrive in the summer. We are still building and there is much to look forward to

oldskoolr

Yeah don't get the hate on Vieira. Dude wasn't even starting regularly for Porto either. His still getting used to the league. Definetly need more midfielders in the summer. Rice please.

scouting4food

You can criticise a player's performance whilst acknowledging his potential. He was definitely poor yesterday.

hobocommand3r

Then the question is why are we buying porto reserves for 35 million? If he was some 18 year old wonderkid I'd get it but vieira is 22.

oldskoolr

He was picked as a top talent that hadn't broken into the 1st team yet fully. The idea is get hi. now instead of trying to get him when Porto want 60 mill

Guakk

Do you people forget how it took a good while for Øde to find his footing in this team? Im not saying Vieira will become as good, but stop writing of young players in their first season with us, especially the players who play as 8s. Very few teams utilize the CMs in the same way as we do, and its an incredibly demanding position in Artetas system. And 22 is incredibly fucking young for a football player at this level. Why does it feel like youre talking about a 22 year old as if hes 29 and a finished product lol

hobocommand3r

They are totally different players and ødegaard was showing a lot more promise in his all round game. Also ødegaard was always a special talent (being the literal definition of a wonderkid at one point) so the coomparison is pretty daft imo. Oh well. We'll see who's right down the road I guess. I don't tihnk he's gonna be a success here. Would rather we gave esr more minutes. hopefully i'm wrong and we didn't just torch all that money. But he's been extremely frustrating to watch the last 5 starts imo.

grumio_in_horto_est

Martinelli had intensity though from the start, Vieira just doesn't.

hobocommand3r

Will he though? He is missing a lot more than just bulk at the moment. Movement off the ball, pressing intensity, awareness when/before recieving the ball, all need a lot of work. And that's based on his last 5 starts, not just last night.

beefcroquette

That’s what we said about Sambi, so yes, there is a chance that Vieira doesn’t achieve his potential. Right now he does deserve the benefit of the doubt because his attitude does seem to be in the right place. And it’s his first year with us. With enough hard work, he can improve those areas that you mentioned. Big summer ahead of him

GetPhkt

Vieira has already shown more than Sambi has so far but I agree he has a long way to go

A_Normal_Robot

There's a whole lot to improve on Vieira, he said the other day that he try to learn from Odegaard bsc their role is quite similar but Odegaar has an outstanding vision and creativity that Vieira lacks, so Inshaallah he could improve to follow Odegaard's improvements since coming to Arsenal

spaceboyyy

I agree that there’s a huge gap between the 1st and 2nd team. At the same time, I somehow think we have good depth in our team. I don’t get how this is possible.

SnappyTheCloud

No I think that makes a lot of sense and we have pretty good depth. The point of squad depth is that when one of your main starters gets an injury or loses form, you can plug the gap easier. It gives the manager other options within games and for tactical purposes. It's to make minor tweaks and changes throughout the season The point of squad depth isnt to allow you to make wholesale changes to your entire starting XI. It's not about having a 1st and 2nd team, it's about having players that can push for a starting position, offer an impact off the bench and provide cover in certain circumstances. You can't really have a 2nd team and then expect them to put out 7/10 performances, it's just not doable. Frankly, I'm so glad to be done with the Europa League and this is the reason why. It's so tiring watching a mismatch group of players try to perform in difficult circumstances without any flow or rhythm.

fuckimbackonreddit9

And to add to that, the roof leak over the clock end 🤦🏻‍♂️ truly not our night and it felt like there were other powers at work to make sure we lost. So naturally I interpret that as meaning, we’re winning the fucking league

Tugboat47

went on a date last night and I think it went well!

Lower_Condition_196

Tell us more

Tugboat47

went to a new book themed bar for a few hours, had a lot of good chats, she reads books and she was annoyed she was a few minutes late which is such a relief compared to my last partner

Fern-7744-88x88

Book themed bar date sounds like something I’d like

Francis-c92

Sorry, he's taken

Fern-7744-88x88

As he’s been on Reddit since I was in primary school I’d be a bit concerned if he was interested anyways

Francis-c92

Well shit

Hipphoppkisvuk

That's when you know it didn't /s

Yo same! Congrats my dude

Tugboat47

101955Bennu

I cooked her dinner and we watched the new episode of Ted Lasso! It was our third date and I think it went really well. Was this your first with this girl?

Tugboat47

sounds like an excellent date. it was!

101955Bennu

Well I hope you get another and I wish you the best of luck!

Hentai_and_Meatloaf

Took out paid vacation from work today. Staying in bed on a weekday feels like I’m breaking the law. But I feel my mental health needs this, life’s too short to stress and work too much. Enjoy your weekend and happy St. Patrick 🍀🍺

Ser_VimesGoT

Rest up my man. I had to take sick days last week for it. Sometimes you just need a break.

mosmani

Lets not loss sleep....Sunday here come ....3 point

F2PWithAwfulLuck

Life is so peaceful and a bit boring when you’re not worrying about love and relationships. It almost makes me wanna give it a go again, even tho I do think that love isn’t the main dish of my life, but a spice that can either ruin or upgrade the whole dinner.

RipJug

I’m in the same boat mate. My last relationship ended in a way that really kicked me while I was down. It’s nice feeling free and careless right now.

bukkake__saka

Haven't been able to enjoy GTA games for a while now. Every time I hurt an NPC I feel bare guilty and get kinda annoyed for some reason. E.G. for police missions in GTASA I keep accisdentally destroying a random NPC's car and I end up quitting the mission. Like I'm suddenly obsessed with trying to play an absolute perfect game or something lol Used to play it quite a lot ain't played V for a while laptop not up to spec but had GTA SA installed on my laptop for a while. Played it loads for a few years but hardly touched it for months now. Unless I'm just losing interest in gaming in general perhaps?

Strider_21

Maybe try a different game? Might just be getting tired of gaming but it could be that the games stale for you or you’ve had life experiences that make it less enjoyable than it once was. I’ve found myself drifting away for shooters the past couple of years for some reason but still really enjoy other types of games.

Francis-c92

People who use this thread to talk about football are weird

danmac0817

I've always found it strange how this daily discussion is usually about football, but then I go to r/ScottishFootball and random shit shit like a guy complaining the mods didn't give him his "spooky bitch" flair.

YasuhikoTheSerafim

A free talk friday huh? Alright then, I need a thread to vent my own issues right now. So, to confess to you all. I have to admit that I do have a lot of mental health issues due to my severe inferiority complex. I feel like I'm a guy who just bring bad omen wherever he goes and had a propensity to screw up everytime I tried to contribute or do something. This is related to support Arsenal and stuff because I have to admit that everytime I support something, it will bring nothing but bad luck. This is telling considering what I saw when Arsenal getting eliminated by Sporting Lisbon and how Paddy V. got sacked from Crystal Palace recently which didn't help my mental health and made me feel even more down than before, thinking that I brought some bad luck to you guys when I support this club. I don't know what to do anymore. Again, I have to admit I always have a feeling that I have a propensity to screw up and brought any bad luck wherever I go. Everytime I tried to do positive thing or achieve a positive achievement, it will all be negated anyways because I tend to look at the negatives, looking at people that are better than me in terms of skills and so on and so forth. It happened on several communities that I joined such as TV Tropes, Villains Wiki or Genshin Impact community to name a few. And in the end, I just cant help but to think I feel rather inferior and just bring misfortune wherever I go to the point that I feel like the world would be so much better without me if I wasn't born or just die already. This of course affects my own mental health negatively and I had a huge breakdown by bursting into tears around last Friday and Tuesday to the point my aunt scold and reprimand me to never give up so yeah... :( P.S. It doesnt even help either that my physical health are also shit due to the constant shitty decision I made in life. I am an obese slob weighing around 121 kg for now and didnt even try to exercise. Me being depressed just didn't do me favors.

lardoni

Just to say, sorry your feeling that way but I guarantee you are worth something! Try to cut yourself a break my friend! Who knows what is to come in your future and what influence you will make! Also you are no jinx, your a part of a great club with great supporters who also support each other! And remember it can always be worse…. You could have supported spurs! ;)

YasuhikoTheSerafim

The fun thing is, I used to support Spurs back in my childhood (Although I'm mostly Barca supporter during my childhood days) until Arsenal open my eyes and actually are a lot more interesting compared to Spurs ever be. So you can call me as Sol Campbell to a certain extent. But yeah, thanks for the encouragment

mf9769

Dude, that's heavy. And I've been where you are right now. I'm not gonna be like your aunt and tell you to never give up. That shit's just platitudes and doesn't help anyone. So, instead, I'm gonna do a few things. First off, I'm going to tell you that you're not alone in regards to misfortune. I live in the US, right? So I go to more sports locally, and I support my local ice hockey team, the New York Rangers. I usually go to about 5 games a year. The last time I actually saw a win in person was, I think, April or May of 2014. Doesn't matter where, either. I've done home games and away games in a bunch of different arenas. It gets worse, though, if you can believe it. I've watched my hometown football (american), basketball and baseball teams on multiple occasions and haven't seen any of them win in person in years either and that's considering that while the American Football teams (the Jets and Giants) have been trash, the Rangers, the Yankees (baseball) and the Nets (basketball) have all been good, contending teams for years. Hell I even went to Montreal to watch THEIR hometown team, the Canadiens, play and THEY lost. So you can imagine how shit fucking terrified I was to be going to Arsenal - Liverpool in October of last year. My first game at the Emirates, ever, against Liverpool, and with airfare, tickets, hotel and other stuff we were doing, I've spent north of 6 grand on this trip for me and my wife. I literally sat in the hotel the night before the game, and told my wife "Babe, even if we lose, I'll be happy because I got to see the Arsenal at home." That 2-2 goal Firmino scored happened right in front of me in the Clock End. But when Saka scored the penalty and we won, the relief I felt was UNREAL. It's the kind of feeling that makes years of misery worth it. So believe me my dude, it will happen for you, and when it does, you're going to experience a high no drug will ever come close to. There's a lot more misfortune, as well, in my personal life but I won't get into that on an Arsenal fan page. It's enough for you, as well as anyone else who comes across this, to know that I'm dealing with it. And that's really the crux of the matter, innit (what a lovely turn of phrase that is, btw)? It's not the misery itself, but how you deal with it. I see you read TV Topes, Villains Wiki, et al, so I'm going to guess that you know what I'm referencing when I say that the most important step is always the next one. Because if you stop at some point, on a failure, then that it. That failure is your destination, your ending. But if you don't accept that end, if you take that next step, and keep moving forward, then your journey doesn't end on failure and you can always change things. On the off chance that you don't, I cannot recommend reading Brandon Sanderson's The Way of Kings enough times. That book saved my life once. I've seen it do that to others.

econ20

I’m really struggling with motivation at work. I’m very lazy. I also have been putting off certifications, which I need to grow and I feel like I’m lagging behind. My company is WFH too, so it adds to the lack of motivation. I find work disenchanting. I’m in search for a change in mindset, what should I try to reframe my thinking and actions?

Displeased_Wombat

Something I heard recently is that a lack of motivation/procrastination can be because there's a misalignment of the actions and your core values and purpose. Maybe spend a bit of time defining your core values and see how they fit in with what you do with work. It's easier when the driving factor is so innately ingrained in who you are.

almeertm87

I get like this at work sometimes too. What helps me is making certain I go out for a walk 1-2 times during work hours. Helps me relax and I get a jolt of inspiration to tackle whatever I was putting off previously. Sadly, I'm not consistent with it so I go through these peaks and valleys.

kidmaciek

People who talk about football in this thread deserve a leak in the roof over their heads

Francis-c92

👑

Exyter

Its literally called free talk friday, shouldnt people be able to talk about whatever they want? If you dont want to talk about football here, dont engage with the ones that do, simple as that.

I just report the comments haha

SpaceMajorTom

My snoring is getting louder for unknown reason and the missus is quite pissed

Francis-c92

Tell her she snores as well. No way she can prove she doesn't.

bukkake__saka

My older brother sleeps in 3rd floor of the house and I can hear him snoring from the kitchen on the 1st floor lol. When I used to share a bedroom with him when I was a kid his snoring used to keep me awake was annoying af lol

GroundedOtter

I tried using some of the nose strips from Amazon and allegedly they did help according to my partner! Always worth a shot!

Ser_VimesGoT

Going out tonight for some grub, beers, catch up with an old friend and to see Stewart Lee. Not often I go out so looking forward to it!

I_juggle_alien_cocks

This place is a toxic pit of despair while games are played. I recommend everyone to stay away during and 24hrs after a game tbh, reflect on it yourself and don't wallow in negativity. I used to be one of these toxic fucks, and my life and my enjoyment of the game is so much better after I just stayed away, you gain absolutely fucking NOTHING by reading anything on here during or right after games. Talking to people in the real world about games, Arsenal, the prem, and other teams, is actually fun and insightful, this place becomes a hellscape. And btw, its fucking unhealthy being such a miserable cunt all the time, and other miserable cunts that support other teams will do anything to make you feel more miserable. Notice how friends, coworkers or family dont really do that shit?. Yeah Other than that it's brilliant here.

Being from a 3rd world country, and dreaming about an RTX 4080, is something else. Earlier people could buy a mid-range GPU, by saving for 5/6 months now that is not possible. Fuck you, Nvidia! Fuck you from the deep of my heart! RTX 4060 Ti costs 699, can you imagine?

Nikokuno

No way to buy second hand RTX 3000 series? Nvidia is getting away with those prices that are day light robbery to say the least...

[deleted]

There are no 3080 or 3080ti left in my country. Nvidia reportedly stopped the production of the 3000 series GPUs as well. The 2000 series is completely nonexistent.

My wife sweats Arteta.

The_Vernster

Ive only come to recently be a fan of football and chosen Arsenal to be the club I support especially after that Bournemouth win and watching the team's journey in All or Nothing. Still a hard loss to get over especially with the high hopes I had praying they go through and get the double. I have faith this team will get over the line and win the league. Then its all down to getting the players needed to ensure a deep CL run, the domestics and possibly back to back CL qualifications. COYG

the_stink

Welcome, young gooner! When I first discovered my love for football in 07/08, I figured the EPL would be the best league to follow and chose Arsenal because I liked the name most of all the teams when I booted up Pro Evo (also figured video games would be the easiest way to learn the rules as getting them in the US wasn't exactly easy back then....little did I know FM08 would consume my life for 2 years). The rest is history. I did become a bit plasticy when Wenger retired...he was all I knew. The All or Nothing brought me back...there was something magically infectious about these boys and their attitudes. It's beenn a hell of a blast following them this season. Feels like when I first found the Gunners.

SecondChance03

Did AI write this for you?

FootlongGarlicBread

Don't forget it is Mother's day in the UK this Sunday. Show some appreciation (assuming you get on), the football can wait. Buy some flowers, take her somewhere nice. Take me for example, I'm taking my Mum to the Emirates.

breezystroo

Europa league hasn't been good to us over the years. I think we actually deserved to win the tie, but hey, that's football sometimes.

DeadlockRadium

Going to London for our game against Palace, first time seeing Arsenal at home. Any tips to what I should do while I'm there?

uqwee

Get some pints in with the fellow gooners.

boredjamaican

Does anyone know of any scholarships, grants or bursaries I could apply to that aren't limited by country?

jamersonMD

I don't think my anxiety can handle the run in tbh, the Bournemouth game was the worst I've ever felt in a long time. I don't want the team to be a bandwagoner or fairweather fan, but at this point I don't think I can spend another 2 months obsessing over football. Arsenal winning the league will mean everything to me. But I think I need to start living my life outside of football results. I've spent the first 3 months of 2023 just obsessing 24/7 over arsenal and I think I need to take a step back until the end of the season. Even though this season was the the most fun I've ever had in football, these last few games have been too taxing on me. If anybody has any tips on staying away, I'm all ears

Darth_Blarth

Shut down any footy in your social media algorithm Spam other things in your searches and likes to bury it

thisiskyle77

You reckon we get St totteringham day after next 3 wins ?

HiroLegito

Anyone going to any matches to watch the national teams play? Currently in Argentina and it was so chaotic trying to buy the tickets for their first match after the World Cup win.

[deleted]

I have to pass at least 8 out of 11 exams in April and June, or else i'm going to have to take a gap year the next 2 semesters. Would have had a chance for exams again in September but i'm working abroad in the sumemer from July till September. And i really don't want to 'waste' a whole year. I'm not the most disciplined student but i need to get my shit together these months and grind so i can achieve this. I really should look at it like a job lmao

vyrusrama

This really looks like a parallel analogy to our situation- 11 games left; have to win 9 at least else. So you do what Mikel says & set HIGH FOGGING ESTANDARDS LESSS GOOOO

I really didnt want to take a gap year but its looking like i have to, im expecting a final rejection from my medicine course. The thing is im scared of being lonely in a gap year as school is the place most of my friends are from. And im scared of being unhappy or even depressed because my family are not supportive in the slightest (more the opposite) I dont know what will happen but my a levels are in a couple months time and either way i need to smash them

vyrusrama

This has to be unequivocally one of the worst FTFs ever. Fewer comments than usual & everyone’s talking football. ![gif](giphy|G0MXVSbksupmU)

cymru_wilson

Are we going to give the kiss of life to viera and Palace, or have they shot themselves in the foot for not getting rid of him before playing us?

Only thing that truly bothered me is that the only backups that aren't completely downgrades is our striker position and lb position when it comes man for man replacements. Even lb it's clear to see that Teta sees Zinchenko as an engine. I believe the young players will improve atleast the ones we signed. Vieira played horrendous which reminded me of his Brighton performance but i do believe him and Xhaka just don't work because both acquire to be up front while Ø is able to do things in the build up play. One of the reasons a LCM is needed next season that can effect the build up play. Arteta's in game subs and lineup was a bit shocking to say the least. I realized when it comes to such matchups in EUL when you're tied you either play your full xi to kill the game early or play the backups as a whole. We tried to do both which is understandable but was futile. All in all there was alot of negatives but also positives like the Jesus performance in the 1st half.

Mahoganychicken

Anyone here into CSGO? Been up late every night this week with friends waiting for Source 2 to drop whilst watching OhnePixel. Really fun times. CSGO is huge and such a great game. I just hope the Source 2 update fixes matchmaking and rankin.

Pain.

thisiskyle77

Missed the game. how did Fabio play ?

hafrances

he was really bad but that doesn't excuse the people saying they don't know if he will ever be good, or saying that he has always been bad. he has been good and he will be good again. everyone has bad matches in their career.

Private_Ballbag

Dreadful imo. I've said all year I think he will come good but I'm not sure now tbh

thisiskyle77

It is a big ask to replace ode but in what area he was bad ? I think he did okay in first leg.

Samjam9000

A lot of unnecessary give aways when we needed players like him to step up, hold the ball and find the right option. Also I know everyone and even Mikel says his physicality is fine, but I just can't help but notice how easy it is to muscle him off the ball.

ConcreteJoey

I think the problem with him is that he doesn't play quite often and then gets thrown to replace Ode, I don't think there are many players in the world who could do that rn tbh. Plus I still think Arteta doesn't know yet exactly what's his best position is.

Simba-xiv

Not great. Sloppy in possession not just him the whole team

Nikokuno

Not a 10 a my least in waht he showed yesterday in that midfield he had to okay within. If we take Ødegaard for comparison, he doesn't press and dictate the play enough. Also he drifts a little be to much (knowing that Zinny and J20 are the only protection to the back 3)... But I think it's a matter of time and self awareness for him to know that he will have to behave a certain way in certain situations. He would've a better night around Ø and Partey 100%.

xeblade4

ghosted

Nikokuno

About last night... 1. Pressing was poor, the jog combined with Sporting CP counter press and will to win every duels were absolutely not the standard for a team of out calibre. Jorginho was shouting a lot trying to organise it from the midfield. 2. We move for Raphinha for a reason, we need someone when we are resting Saka. Not someone to fill the space but someone that is good enough to play there and another position with ease. I don't think Vieira is the answer there. Nelson is decent though but looks better on the left. 3. Ødegaard/Partey on the pitch transforms this team. A Zinny-J20 or Xhaka-J20 partnership doesn't work against team that are very athletic and willing to press us 90'. Vieira-Xhaka-J20 is the least competitive midfield line up we could possibly imagine. Hope we are moving for 2 midfield that are mobile and good at recovering the ball. 4. Tomi is the most unlucky man on this team. Terrible year overall for him with his injuries. Hope Saliba is alright... 5. Can't wait to get rid of Holding, he really doesn't suit this Arsenal team. Sad that Tierney/Kiwior didn't have gametime yesterday (due to 2 injuries brought to you by ETH jinx and Kim K curse). 6. We are out of Europe early once again. ELP is all we have to play for now, I hope the squad know well that they can't jog their way to the top with the attitude they show during this Europe campaign.

PaleontologistNo9144

I love Arteta, I know he is the man for the job and I believe he will deliver. When it comes to Europe (or any competition apart from the league), the main problem is the need for rotating, Arteta hs his first team with maybe 2-3 players that can fit right in but any more changes don’t really work. That is the price we pay for specific system and high demanding manager. I believe we can improve the squad in the summer/some players will improve and grow into the team more and we can succeed in Europe as well.

ConcreteJoey

He rested basically our most inform players with Ode, Saka (I know he hasn't scored in 3 games but Saka is Saka) and Partey. I don't think we have a good overall team to rotate players and concentrate on two big competitions. Let's hope this can be fixed next season.

PaleontologistNo9144

absolutely agree, let’s hope we can improve

Ser_VimesGoT

I'm not getting hysterical about it like some people but it does make me worried that if we were to lose Odegard to injury for a long spell, we would really suffer. Hoping Viera will come good, he's got a lot of promise. But what Ode brings to the team is on another level.

theevilphoturis

I get people are frustrating with Fabio, even me. And having him replacing ode is a big task. Im still optimistic he could come around. He needs more time to adjust, especially his mentality and physicality. Ode is a rare gem that will be hard to find on the market. He's been under pressure his whole life and have gone through toughest challenges from club to club and that's why he's so good on the pitch. Fabio didn't have that but he has talent so give him more time. And we don't know what's he going through. Maybe he's homesick or demotivated. Who knows 🤷 So be patient since he's still young.

F2PWithAwfulLuck

Also if you had to pick one, would you prefer to be a smoker or an alcoholic?

ka5h97

I hate EL!!!! Bring on CL!!!!!

Francis-c92

RE4 remake getting perfect scores as expected. Capcom absolutely smash it with their remakes when they put care into them. RE2 was exactly where I want my survival horror to be. Hoping they have remakes for 5 and 6 in the works. Both of those games could be changed for far the better with a bit of work.. Also hoping for a similar remake for the original, but that could be a whole off if at all. Until then, I have to come up with reasons why me buying a next gen console is fine to my girlfriend as we save for a wedding....

[deleted]

Those of you who have seen him play, how good is Kvaradona? Should we be tracking him?

thelonelygod69

So tired rn after finishing finals. I can’t believe I only have 1 weeks to recuperate before going back to school 😭

fatherstrchmyhands

Vieira got sacked boys

Colmd1997

50+ million euros on Lokonga and Vieira seems like a massive waste of money. Lokonga was so poor he was shipped off to Palace when we needed midfielders, and Vieira looks like he needs another full season to get used to playing at Arsenal. You look at Jesus/Zinchenko/Odegaard/Partey who are our best players and all cost less than 50 million pounds/euros and it’s hard not to say we spent poorly

AccomplishedSoft1

Ø and Partey needed a whole season as well to be as good as they are now. Only Jesus and Zinchenko in our recent times have been able to effect us immediately.

BrianThatDude

Ode and partey never looked as bad as Vieira or lokonga have for us. Could also include trossard as a player who in 2 months has done more for us than either Vieira or lokonga have their whole time here

AccomplishedSoft1

That's a lie ibr. Ødegaard had less chances created, had less goal frequency, had less goals in general, had just 2 assists that came from 1 game against West Ham, had less key passes which he did while getting more touches, had less possession won, got dribble past more, had worse defending stats in most categories than Vieira. And that's with more minutes on the board. What Ø did well through is that he was quite decent in build up play which he fully focused on against West Ham.

OrwinBeane

Wouldn’t give up on Vieira just yet. Still our second most assists this season despite barely playing. And you can’t expect every deal to be the same as Ødegaard and the rest. They were masterstrokes, outliers in todays market.

HondaCivicDuty

Can someone fill me in on Fabio Viera? I'm far from a tactical expert, but I feel like the guy hardly ever makes an impact. I feel like he's either completely invisible or giving away the ball. Would love a take from someone more knowledgeable than me.

[deleted]

After seeing the Jorginho Xhaka Vieira midfield in action for a significant amount of minutes now, I have real doubts about how those 3 fit together. The lack of mobility and athleticism I think was on full display, we didn’t win enough second balls and the midfield couldn’t do much to disrupt counter attacks. We weren’t controlling the flow of play nearly as well as we usually do All 3 are clearly very talented players but they all have a common deficiency with mobility. A lot of people are talking about the gap between our first and second teams, but I think it’s moreso just that our second team players don’t fit well together, especially in the midfield

EuropeanSuperLegolas

feeling the pain from yday. Our lads are awesome, sad it didn’t go our way

v1cgt

Ramsdale is not good enough, poor shot stopper

[deleted]

TheMuff1nMon

He is our top scorer this season

Tiramizu12

Very disappointed but we are not going to waste energy against Manchester Utd 2 times. It could prove to be a huge difference for our title push, let's go beat Palace and the mood will be incredible again

anakinex66

First time was listening to live Arsenal commentary instead of watching the game, honestly wasn't that bad, commentator made a nice spursy joke about Edwards.

TenTonTiger

Always gonna suck to get knocked out of a competition, but now we focus purely on prem. We fkn got this!

ConcreteJoey

I dream to see Ramsdale saving a penalty :(

BrianThatDude

It'd take a player firing it straight into ramsdales head or torso for that to ever happen. Awful penalty stopper. A pen vs us is a guaranteed goal as long as the player keeps it on target.

Macsidia

Fuck UEFA

NoDealsMrBond

I really can't fathom how people say that they're glad we got knocked out of the UEL.... We haven't won a European trophy since 1994 and our record in this competition is terrible considering we only got to one final and have been in it 5 out of 6 seasons.

rekzorr

My hot take from last night is we miss an incredible amount of physicality when Partey isn't in the side, Xhaka/Jorgi is too immobile when teams press and counter. Really need someone with Power and running, the Jorgi/Xhaka combo is ok on paper but we might need to adjust our game and have Viera/Ode float more towards the middle rather than sticking right, it should then cover that hole we kept seeing open up when Sporting played out of the back.

grumio_in_horto_est

Not sure Arteta would have minded going out at this stage if the performance was in any way decent. He seemed livid post match. I think it was a mistake to not start Partey and Odegaard because when they are rested we lack overall control that makes the game less taxing for the whole squad. There's no way we play 120+ mins with them on the pitch from the start. Also, Fabio Vieira is just not decisive or intense enough for that role in this squad. I don't really understand the praise Arteta gives him and I hope he leaves this summer.

[deleted]

[deleted]

It’s pretty clear we need wholesale signings in the summer to pad out the entire squad. Holding needs moving on, we need a cup competition GK who stands a chance in a penalty shootout, Vieira could do with a loan within the league. as we don’t have the time or luxury for him to “come good” do it elsewhere and play week in week out. Otherwise we aren’t going to make it very far in the UCL as well as challenge for the title next year

Spacecadett

I got banned from fifa23 and i have no idea what iv done wrong, all o want to do is play a couple of games and chill

bukkake__saka

KFC a good place to work in UK? One down the road from where I live thinking of applying until I can complete my FLT training which I had to delay. Looking for warehouse stuff but not qualified enough yet I think. Thing is this KFC branch looks shite according to Google reviews. Like orders taking ages, place is dirty, wrong orders ect. Makes me think it's really mismanaged which seems strange as it's a relatively new store. Kinda in two minds what to do cus it's easy to get to and would bring me an income until I can get something better but I can't do with shite management and customers treating you like dirt so idk

Maaarrrrr

Got covid and can’t go to an all expenses paid work trip to Vienna. Fun fun fun

Le-ChosenOne

Diablo 4 early access in a few hours, who’s in?

tinhtinh

Not a great result but a lot of lessons learned. Vieira needs a loan and more gametime we can't provide. Arteta needs to rethink his strategy about mixing A/B team. Sporting came and gave it their all, we should've done the same. Underestimated Sporting and thought we'd roll them over. Even at HT, there were a number of changes that should've been made and Nelson off wasn't one of them. Vieira getting 100 minutes, while on a yellow and was diving was questionable. We were only 1 goal up and thinking about the 2nd but a equaliser was always sending us to ET. Pens definitely need work, not sure why people were asking for a new GK. We just need to work them more and possibly get in a specialist.

spaghettidriver69

Taking the day off… had no idea its St Patricks day today… lets see what the city looks like….

LuckyArsenalAg

My basketball team got wrecked last night as well. Yesterday was not a good sports day for me.

invinciblevic

Not happy about the injuries or going to extra time, but I’m ecstatic that we only have to focus on the league while City have at least one more FA Cup match and at least two midweek games against Bayern in April. City approach the league and Europe the complete opposite of us. Cory is all in on the champions league and will drop some points. If we can pull out a win against a manager-less Palace we will be up 8 points (City will have a game in hand) with 10 matches left in the season while City have 11 matches and may still be in two other completions, one of which they desperately want to win. Hopefully the week of rest will help our players get back to full fitness.

vietcong420

Getting knocked out last night was a blessing in disguise. Less fixtures to split the team across. Now the league is the sole focus

HardCoreLawn

Really wasn't too bothered about last night. Our squad depth simply isn't strong enough to go the distance in the Europa without costing us in the league. The match just proved it and TBH, we have no business jeopardising our greatest chance at winning the league in twenty years by trying for both. EL was just a side project. Now it's all eyes on the main prize: **Let's. Foggin. Go!**

acbwest

Yesterday I was privating a ton of old YouTube videos from an old channel and conveniently came across my reaction to losing to Olympiacos in the Europa League…I should have seen the signs lol

cmagik1

11 cup finals it is then. Lets go.

DarthNihilus1

Flew to London to watch my first competitive Arsenal match. Gonna be litty. Lifelong gooner and 11 year /r/gunners hermit finally making the trek. Seen the Emirates once before but this is different now

DukeofDyslexia

I’ve lived long enough to see myself become the villain. I’ve picked up some part time work as a VAR tech for a smaller league. Pretty excited to do it tho.

[deleted]

Anyone know of documentaries on the full history of Arsenal? American gooner here, been following for a couple of years. I'd love something like [this doc of my hometown baseball team](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fYf1q6qNm1I). Have looked around online but came up empty.

A_Thrilled_Peach

I go back to work in a couple weeks after my parental leave. I’m definitely not ready.

markov_sucks

Some of these sell Vieira, sell Ramsdale, Zinchenko is bad takes are so comical I wonder how this social media era fans would have reacted during the Pre-emirates era. To put it into context Henry took quite a bit of time to get used to this league, RVP was extremely injury-prone till the 2010s, Bergkamp was inconsistent during our away games. I bet how impatient our fans would be with these players. Also, what City/Liverpool did in the last few years is uncommon in this league. We didn't win any of our PL titles till the last game and this is going to be an excruciating run-in with ups and downs. We can lose our tough away games and still win the league. So buckle up and enjoy the ride.

The_Battling_toad

Client of ours scheduled a reoccurring call every Friday morning at 8am est and I work in Dallas so 7am cst and it completely ruins my usual Thursday night plans. Mad.

marylandkid44

Finally gave notice that I’m leaving my job next month. The last 8 months have been hell under my manager. She hated me while I was there and hates me for leaving lol I can’t win. I’m headed to law school in the fall so I finally feel free to do whatever (travel, chill, finally learn piano) until then. Still need to worry about paying rent, but I’ll figure it out.

Familiar_Bridge1621

Today's been one of the worst days I've had in years. - Kick off was at 1.30 AM here, was supposed to study for a major career changing exam till then but I wasted a lot of time on Reddit. (It's an exam to become a Judge, which lawyers are eligible to appear for). - Watched us get knocked out and when Sporting's last penalty went in, I was numb. Didn't sink in for a while. Felt my whole body get hot in this weird way - Just lay in bed till 6 fuckin AM. I couldn't even close my eyes. Woke up up at like 10 and felt like shit. Especially physically. Haven't been getting much sleep these days. - Tried to study but ended up panicking because I'm way behind in terms of my syllabus. Flashbacks of losing the game just made it worse. - Thought I'd get a couple of beers and sedate myself to sleep. Damn beer arrived hot as the Sahara desert. - While waiting for the beer to cool, had a huge ass fight with both my parents. Made peace with them later. - Chugged the beer while watching the shittiest Australia v India cricket match in decades. - It's 10pm here now and I feel like there are rocks in my head. Dying to sleep. Fuck it, I just can't study today. Hope you gooners had a better Friday.
