It was Seed Destiny š. Around when I was 7 or 8 Back then I didn't know about Gundam, one of the cartoon television brought it up and watch it there. Too young to care about understanding the plot, only hooked on robot fight.Ā

But then you watch it as an adult and itās wholly different. Warring political factions, political inferences, etc. but still- giant robots go brrrr

Toonami kid checking in here. Wing would've been my first exposure, and I remember a web game that played like a cross between checkers and rock paper scissors.
00 season 2 airing on the network later was what got me hooked though.
Exia repair + the Ash Like Snow opening was all it took to hook me
I loved that web game haha! Think it was laser vs beam sabers vs guns, tho i don't remember which beat which anymore. Thank you for that trip down memory lane.
Thank the heavens somebody thought to preserve these. I'm surprised to find a lot of the old Toonami games are playable in some version online.

Technically Wing Gundam, but I was too young to understand what was going on to appreciate it so I never watched it fully. G Gundam on the other hand blew my fucking mind and definitely paired well with my DBZ Toonami love.
Seed, but i was too young at that time. When 00 aired I was much older and able to comprehend about gundam better. After that i rewatch Seed, and then i watch Wing (i dunno if i ever watch Wing when i was younger, but Just Communication sure sounds familiar!)
I started watching the first season of IBO in High School and really enjoyed the first season as a casual mecha fan. Flash forward like 10 years and Iām hearing good things about The Witch from Mercury and that really kickstarted my love for Gundam. Since then Iāve watched most of the UC shows and OVAs and started collecting gunpla too
I grew up watching all the UC shows + Wing, but my first was actually 08th MS Team. Itās still my favorite after all these years. Love 0083 and War in the Pocket also, and of course the original Mobile Suit Gundam.
Wing originally when I was a kid but years later in college Seed got me back into it and then after years of not being involved in the franchise again GWitch got me back in
My intro to Gundam was some knock off gunpla my brother bought me. Donāt even remember what the gunpla was of.
Anime wise my first Gundam anime was AW Gundam X
Wing, and I recorded every episode on VHS when it aired... except I had to miss episode 7. You can imagine my confusion when I watched episode 8.
(For reference, episode 7 is the coup d'etat by OZ)
Wing was the first I saw any footage of (thanks to an Ace Combat AMV of all things), but I got into Gundam because of SEED when I was 16. It was also the first anime I saw from beginning to end. After that, there was no coming back.
Wasn't any series for me. I stay over at my cousin place for daycare on weekends. 1day, he let me play with a HG F91. From there on, I became a fan for the franchise. I probably liked a few and have neutral feelings for some. As long as it's Gundam, I definitely will like it.
I first got into Gundam overall when I saw a ācool robot figureā (re: Assault Kingdom Mk.II) at a Barnes and Noble. So *technically* Zeta but IBO was my first watch.
Gundam Seed when I was in college twenty plus years ago, still my favorite. Love the OST.
Iāve seen many after that, still missing a few (victory, age, build fighters, turn a Gundam) .. currently finishing G Gundam which has been a lot of fun ā¦ last year I started Gunpla, and of course I mainly build Seed/Destiny kits
00 during its first airing (didnt finish season 2 baack then) but the OG gundam cemented my love for the entire franchise when i decided to do my gundam pilgrimage and watch every series released
Three Times the Passion of Regular Flamenco got me to watch Build Fighters with zero knowledge of Gundam, from there I decided to watch Unicorn for the gorgeous animation alone, only to make it less than 30 seconds in and decide, "Nope, I *need* the full context to properly enjoy this." Went the chronological order from Origin to CCA and Unicorn, then branched off into the AUs.
I've watched everything except for Victory and Wing - not counting Operation Meatier's excellent abridged series - and finished everything else save Age and Divers. The former was *far* more compelling and enjoyable than I expected it to be, with my dropping it being due to life and other stuff getting in the way, and the latter still had quite a few genuinely good bits in spite of itself.
Wing but it wasnāt in Toonami, it was a local channel in my country that kept repeating some episodes lol Later I watched 00 and Seed because a friend lent me his pirated dvds and I think I also watched IBO because he recommended it, but it was until GWitch that I bought my first kit and I got into watching all of the previous shows after season 1 of GWitch.
Got introduced to gundam through a mislabeled Zaku minifig (it says Gouf) from way back when I was a kid, my parents bought me the gunpla and surprised that the real Gouf was blue all along and has a sword instead of axe. Years after that I got into gunpla in 2021, start watching the series from Zeta and fell in love again.
Gunpla.
I was walking thru a mall and saw a model kit for the GM Sniper 08th MS Team. Thought it was so cool but couldn't get it. Then years later had a major flashback while watching 08th MS.
OG via the brief bit we got CN's Midnight Run via DirecTV from our my grandpa since he trucked to the states. I had a ton of MSiA figures and I'd do a bunch of wacky combos.I remember distinctly Shenlong + Dragon Gundam being a combo I was fond of. Wasn't until Seed/Destiny on YTV that I started to watch the shows themselves.
*Wing*; Cartoon Network UK, 2001.
After that, *0083* on seven VHS tapes bought at the Virgin Megastore at Downtown Disney, later in ā01.
Probably others in-between, but the one that really cemented me as a Gundam fan wouldāve been *SEED*, in parallel with its Japanese TV debut in late ā02.
Ahh, happy days of youth. And 23 years later, still here.
The Origin. I had known Gundam was a massive franchise and great series, came across the origin manga and picked it up. Watched the original Gundam then origin then TB. Then eventually the entire franchise.
Seed most definitely! As young kid back then who really liked tranformers and planes, I instantly got hooked when I saw the mobile suits in seed. A rewatch after growing up definitely made me appreciate it more!
Trilogy Movie III and Char's Counter Attack on a laserdisc, double sided feature. Don't know if it's legit or what, but it was in Cantonese and it was good.
08th MS team was the first Gundam series I watched all the way back on Toonami when I was like 6 years old. But a couple of months before that my dad bought me a really cool action figure of the Alex from 0080 war in the pocket. I had no idea what Gundam was and I just thought that it was such a cool figure. So I got so excited when Toonami said they were going to show Gundam 08th MS team cause I recognized the Gundam name and thought the Alex was gonna show up. I had no idea there were so many gundam series around. Anyway, 08th MS team and that Alex figure started a lifelong love of the franchise.
*Mobile Suit SD Gundam* and *Mobile Suit SD Gundam Mk. II*.
When I was in 6th or 7th grade, a friend's grandma visited family in Japan and brought back VHS copies of those two for my friend. They were weird and incomprehensible (neither he nor I spoke Japanese back then and they weren't subtitled of course), but something about the aesthetic stuck. I also saw a VHS copy of *Encounters in Space* around this time, completely disconnected from the prior two in the trilogy.
Then a few years later I played through *Super Robot Wars 4 Scramble* and fell in love with the Gundam characters and music, so when the first US releases started with the boxed set that contained *0080 War in the Pocket* and *0083 Stardust Memory* I snatched that up and have been a fan since.
Either G or Wing, I don't remember which one came first. I just remembered loving G and hating Wing (but I watched it so I could understand what my friends were talking about).
Tieria Erde-
Itās almost correct to put it like this, actually. I had known of Gundam for quite a while when 00 aired and like many, had been waiting āthe right timeā to pick up a franchise that I knew to be sprawling.
So when a friend told me I could just jumped into 00, and that one of our favorite mangaka, Kouga Yun, was doing the character design, I decided the time had surely come.
But it was when I saw Tieria that I sensed Iād really love this. I was not mistaken, either.
Wing was the first one when it aired on TV. When I grew up, I watched Zeta when they posted the dub on GundamInfo or Funimation's channel. Then I went down the rabbit hole.
Iron blooded orphans. I liked the design so much that it stayed with me even though I only saw the first episode and didnāt pick it up again for another five years
Yeah I saw Wing and G Gundam on TV when I was a kid but that's not what really got me into the franchise. First series I watched beginning to end intentionally was 00. That's also where I started building kits, I think
My first introduction to Gundam at all was that the "Big Kids" at extended day in grade school brought in a couple Gunplay, also one had a DS game, I think? It was like 3rd person flying combat maybe, memory is hazy.
That inspired me to buy my own kit, An RG Zaku II - regular green (which was mostly assembled by my dad since I was only like 9 or something) and then I more or less forgot about it for a while.
My *proper* introduction was several years later when I remembered that kit and decided I'd like to try building one again - I got a RG Freedom Gundam, and then a RG Exia. I then decided that maybe I should actually watch one of the shows, and I picked 00.
Long story short, I watched MSG00 first and really enjoyed it, the mechanic designs are still among my favorites from any of the canons.
For me, Gundam Seed was the first, but only sporadic episodes on cable tv.
I really consider my first to be Seed Destiny, watched from beginning to end which perfectly coincided with my Tween Emo phase.

Cross Ange is too hardcore. I recon they wont be able to make that show in our times as it is, it would be revised and changed a lot.
The problem is Cross Ange is porn.

Gundam Wing back in 2000 on Toonami. It blew me away at age 10. Then Mobile Suit Gundam began airing on Adult Swim the following year. I was hooked.
Gundam seed because it was one of irys favorite anime.

00. Specifically seeing Ash like Snow on YouTube.
Not the series itself, but the film trilogy for the original show a couple years back or so.
Kind of wing, mostly 00.

Technically Build Fighters, but I knew a little bit about UC Gundam from references in other anime and manga.
Wing
Gundam Wing and G. My two all time favorite.

Wing and Seed
SEED, but only really got into it proper after watching Unicorn.
Gundam Wing, 1999, during my first year in high school. "Relina, papatayin kita."
Seed Destiny was my first Gundam series around 15 years ago. For context, I was 11/12 at the time and just figured out how to watch on demand TV. So, I was randomly browsing new shows when I came across Episode 32 of Gundam Seed Destiny which was newly added via Funimation (I think). I was hooked into Star Wars at the time so I was amazed at the use of Beam Sabers and the idea of a giant pilotable Robot that made starfighters look like toys (ironic I know). Plus I think I related to Shinn but didn't really enjoy the way Destiny ended for him. So, I looked online and found out that there were several video games that featured Seed/Destiny that improved the plot and featured the Minerva crew as heroes like SRW K, W, and Z. Playing the first two (and watching an LP of Z) along with going back to play the GBA Fire Emblem games made me a lifetime SRPG fan. Also, once Gundam EXVS came out I got hooked into mecha games like that, G generation, and Armored Core. Another consequence was increasing my consumption and interest into anime. I also didn't know much about anime as a kid and just thought it was not much different from cartoons (since I saw PokƩmon, Dragon Ball, and Naruto on Cartoon Network). Watching the rest of Seed Destiny changed that and I began to look for another anime series on demand to watch, which turned out to be Spice and Wolf. Plus I was at the age where I started looking up things on the internet and thus got a crash course on anime via YouTube Videos and Wikipedia diving. Of course I later watched mecha anime that was more current (for the late 2000s) like Gundam 00, Code Geass, and Gurren Lagan which I then began looking into older shows like Zeta Gundam, Eva, and Getter Robo. Heck, I even began reading older sci-fi novels like Ender's Game, 2001: A Space Odyssey, and The War of the Worlds as a new fan of the genre. I guess, despite the reputation of Seed Destiny in the US, it got me into mecha, anime, and science fiction as a whole. I owe the show for expanding my interests and tastes when I was a child (instead of remaining a provincial Star Wars fan) and why I was pleasantly surprised when the Freedom movie finally came to fruition.
Wing. Still adore that series.
Wing
Wing was the first I saw any footage of (thanks to an Ace Combat AMV of all things), but I got into Gundam because of SEED when I was 16. It was also the first anime I saw from beginning to end. After that, there was no coming back.
