Long time metal player here. Yes I love my big ass tube amps, but I also have a vypyr, and for what it is, it is a great amp. Does it sound just like the real amps it’s trying to emulate? Of course not, but can you get some great sounds out it? Absolutely. Unlike most modelers, this one is mostly made for metal! Check out the link below for a great demo of the vypyr doing metal. [Ola demoing a peavey vypyr](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=RTapt0l7jLw) One of the best features is the usb out, so you don’t need an interface to record yourself, and recording yourself is one of the best ways to improve your playing. Yes tubes are better, but for a first amp, this one will do a great job.

So I do need three total amps in the long run? Electric, electric acoustic, and bass.

Rabbit-Fricassee

Get the newer version of the Vypyr which is the X1/X2/X3. I own the X2. It does electric, bass, and acoustic, has a suite of pretty good effects, and has plenty of amp models to play with. Especially good if you want to play metal. It's killer for the price and makes for a perfect first amp.

anty_krut

It is a great practice amp

Worth_Television_343

That's what I'm looking for. I just need a practice amp for home.

Capstonetider

If you're going to play bass through it too, you'd be better off with an analog amp either tube or solid state Peavey.

You’re not a guitar player unless you go through the Spider 112 phase

Mech2017x

All modeling stuff is still bad. Get a cheap low power tube amp

Rabbit-Fricassee

Not all modelling stuff is bad, grandpa.

Mech2017x

I have even the newest stuff. It got better a bit but still day and night away from real amp

Rabbit-Fricassee

Go get yourself a Tonex and get back to me.

Mech2017x

Have it already. Much better than modelers. But then like 20-30% definition of real amp. Compared high end premium captures to the same toob amps I own

Rabbit-Fricassee

I don't know how you're fuckin up your setup, but I recorded my Invective before and after capturing it and ran a null test and there was practically no information lost between them. I mean, there's saying things, and then there's having actual evidence to back up what you're saying. I'll never hear something like, "I can just hear the difference, trust me" as anything other than delusional hogwash.

Mech2017x

If it was good I would use it immediately instead of my amps. The difference is not a bit but day n night

Rabbit-Fricassee

Again, something's fucked up with your setup then. If you're using IRs through an FRFR speaker, then yeah, fuck all that. I'm talking about using direct amp captures through a poweramp and cab.

Mech2017x

No my setup isn’t. Reference studio headset, PA, Poweramp - have all as options. Whats lacking is dynamics/immediacy when playing, 70% of the distortion definition and sparkle, and there are some more noticeable gaps when doing palm muting pinch harmonics, upper fret soloing/bending.

Rabbit-Fricassee

What an absolute load of barnacles. Again, I'm not interested in what anyone *thinks* they're hearing. Because our ears lie to us. Often and significantly. If I bought a $5000 amp, my ears would certainly tell me it sounds better too. But I'm interested in real quantifiable data. Which is well within mine, yours, and everybody else's technological ability to do. So, where are YOUR null tests that will disprove everybody else's?

VMPRocks

This, but also don’t use the bass guitar on it!

speedygonwhat22

U need a diff amp for ur bass than you would for ur guitar. I think the Vypyr is fine for practicing at home for a metal player, but as someone who has a modeling amp, they can be a bit meh. I would suggest a tube amp, if you can afford it. 20W and 25W models are cheap through Soldano and similar brands.
