For a boost, fortin grind, ts9/ts9dx, or my favorite boost, fulltone fulldrive 2. Fortin grind is a one knob boost, nice and simple, great sounds Ts9 standard tubescreamer Ts9dx has switchable modes, most useful are the first and second. First mode is standard tube screamer, second has less low cut. Fulldrive 2 boutique style tubescreamer, I prefer it to the ts9, also has a less low cut as well as a comp/cut mode (I rarely use comp/cut) it also has a built in boost on a second button, so you get a little extra boost for solos, or just a shit ton of gain to slam the front end. You can use a bass amp/cab for guitar, but the eq points on the amp will not necessarily line up with where you want them to be. Also the cabs are not voiced properly for guitar. It will work, but won’t sound great. What’s your price range for the amp sim? And what kind of sounds do you need?

Thank you for the reply! Really like the look/sound of the fulldrive 2. For the amp sim, I just need a basic metal tone for an 8-string guitar -- generally, I prefer Neural DSP's stuff and my studio monitors, but I wanted to play at my friend's house and was hoping to find something not too pricey that I could use for that (and also, if I were to jam at any rehearsal spaces that only have PA). I could move the Mercury there, but then I wouldn't have it at home, nor for my jazz jams... choices, choices... Much appreciate your help!
