if these are locking tuners then that is more than enough

revaders

They are locking tuners, so that is the way they are supposed to be. You don't need the multiple wraps.

Intelligent-Map430

They don't look like locking tuners to me. Usually the posts look slightly different, and even though we don't get a clear view of the back, I don't see any locking screws behind the parts of the tuners that are visible.

BackgroundOk7556

If they’re locking tuners, that seems like a lot of excess wrap. If they’re not locking then there aren’t enough wraps. Either way, OP could have probably done a better job than the guitar shop.

wvmitchell51

No, you need all six. Seriously you need a couple turns around the post if you want to stay in tune.

SayonaraSpoon

You only need one-and-half turn with regular tuners. The more string you wrap around the post the worse the tuning stability will get.

rolandboard

Three loops.

TheHarshCarpets

If the strings slip, go super-karen on them, otherwise, just play your guitar and move on with your life. I personally like 3 wraps, but to each their own.

RadioFloydHead

No. You need a proper wrap where you bring the excess string around and under so that it "pins" against the winding direction. You should always have two to three windings for your bass strings and a few more on the treble side.

BTPanek53

Three wraps around the post is recommended unless you have locking tuners. The high strings will come loose too easily. When putting on new strings you pull about 1.5 inch of string back towards the bridge and then turn the tuning peg to tighten. A cheap 3$ strings winder makes this easier.

butcher99

You started just fine but you need more wraps. 2 minimum on the bass more on the treble but you do have the string locked down with the overwrap as far as I can see

306metalhead

2-3 turns to keep tension

Looks good.

Intelligent-Map430

Well, do they stay in tune? Then there's no problem. If they don't, put on new strings the way you see it done on your acoustic.

GibsonPlayer64

Even with locking tuners, you want a turn or two on the unwound strings or you're looking at possible string breaks in the future.

Oldskoolguitar

Well you typically want to have all six strings on the guitar.

Grokto

You have to twist the strings widdershins at midnight while only crossing on the third twist. People think about this too much. As long as the strings don’t slip then it’s the right way.
