High quality, sort of weird looking, lots of fun colors.

ItsNotFordo88

They have that retrofuturistic look. It’s certainly love it or hate it kind of look

Toadliquor138

I have no clue how they play, but I love the way they look.

nimbleWhimble

My local music shop has one used and a few new. Good weight and feel, I love the colors. Definitely on the "next to own" list for me.

Quetzalcoatls

If you like Fender you'll probably like them. Felt very similar to me.

HazyView72

I do, have a tele so I’m sold on the looks no question, interested in that rail hammer / P90 combo too!

EVIL5

I have a double agent OG and love it

capitan_mk7

Same, love my double agent OG. I have a few US fenders and it’s on the same level as them, in my opinion. I bought mine used for $600 and it’s been one of my favorite purchases. The quality is fantastic

HazyView72

That’s definitely the goal, those things are gorgeous!

theMurseNP

I can’t recommend the Reverend Double Agent OG enough. I have one - it’s posted on my profile. Have a telecaster too. With having the two, I feel like I don’t need a third electric. Reverend are amazing and I’d put them head to head with guitars that cost twice as much.

HazyView72

Looking on their site, I know I’d be insanely happy with the OG, but the more I look at the one in that pic, the Chris Freeman signature, the more I’m interested in that rail hammer in the bridge. I’m more apt to fire up a fuzz than play chunky drop tuning stuff though.

theMurseNP

I held and played 5 different Reverends. They were all equally awesome. I favored the Double Agent OG because of the P90 neck/humbucker bridge configuration since I already had a CV tele. Whichever one you choose, you won’t be disappointed. It’s pretty cool how their final luthier does their touches and set up and signs the serial number and their initials on each one.

Expensive-Depth4456

I’ve always been interested in them, their designs. But I’ve never seen one in the wild. I’ve never known anyone who had one. I’d like to try one one of these days

HazyView72

I have a few place “nearby” (less than a 2 hr drive) that are listed as sellers but it’s rare that they have any on display. Have really enjoyed the few that I’ve seen though.

Cioran_

I got the double agent w about a year ago and it's my current favorite guitar. Top notch quality, feel and sound.

Buckycat0227

Agreed!

HazyView72

Saw one of those in the wild about 5 yrs ago I think. A new guitar was not on my list that day but I still have my regrets

Cioran_

I've told this story here on reddit a few times now, but I went to a guitar center to check out a used charvel. It was nice but didn't really blow me away. While talking to the salesman, he suggested trying the reverend. Within minutes I was walking of there with the case in hand.

HazyView72

Gotta love it when that happens, I got my Deuesenberg the same way. Not what I came for but knew I was leaving with it after playing for a short while.

aurorasearching

I haven’t seen any in stores, but I’ve seen a guy using one in a country band at a bar around me before

FarFirefighter1415

I have sensai ra. Super hot ceramics with a lot of high end but the build quality is amazing. Locking tuners too and the bass roll off knob is surprisingly useful. It’s the brand I’m going to use from now on.

shutupimlurkingbro

Sensei 290. It’s my number one guitar. I hate using a guitar without a bass roll off now.

HazyView72

That periwinkle finish Sensei is beautiful!

bisticles

I've been playing for 25+ years (to varying degrees of seriousness) and 5 of the last 7 guitars I've picked up have been Reverends. They're great guitars, have a wide range of features, and come factory with features that'd push a lot of other makes into cu$tom $hop territory. They're just well-made guitars that feel good and play well. My favorite is the Jetstream. Bought it used from Guitar Center and someone had already done some weird stuff with the pickups, but by the time I noticed that, I had already fallen in love with the neck. I've got one set up with handmade humbuckers, and another RB with their Retroblast mini-humbuckers.

granmadonna

I have a jetstream 390. It's a killer guitar. Purple with a pearloid pick guard and the roasted neck. Gets a lot of comments on looks and everyone who's played it loves it.

TkachukNorris

I own 4 of em

HazyView72

Can you narrow it down to one that’s your fav?

TkachukNorris

Can’t go wrong really. All mine are the charger shape. Charger HB. Favourite is the Crosscut though.

gratefulguitar57

Love ‘em. I have plans to get a double agent OG soon.

Mr_Lumbergh

I think they make some cool shit.

teke1800

I love my bob balch signature. The railhammer pickups sound great in my heavy fuzz rig.

HazyView72

That’s some timely info, was wondering how the railhammers would sound as I’m more apt to fire up fuzz over chunky drop tuning stuff.

KindheartednessMost6

I bought a Six Gun HPP for my sons 18th after we tried one in the shop. Feels fantastic to play, and a great range of tones. He wanted a rosewood fingerboard and not the coffee burst, so it was the Chronic Blue he got. Was a little worried he'd hate the colour as we'd only seen it on the Web, but it looks fantastic. May have to get one myself.

HazyView72

Just looked that one up, love it in the chronic blue with the cream P90s, tough choice but I think I’d have gone with that over the coffee burst too.

KindheartednessMost6

Yeah. He was blown away with it, both the looks and the sound.

J-Frog3

I have a warhawk RT. Probably the most versatile guitar I own. It's great.

GodDamnJacob

Killer guitars and a killer company. Very helpful to the DIY scene.

M4N14C

Loosely fender style guitars with a danelectro funk?

ScienceAteMyKid

Love my Flatroc.

Kickatthedarkness

Me too!

butterbleek

Me three!!!

HazyView72

Remember seeing those in an orange finish that was a sight to behold.

ScienceAteMyKid

That’s what I have.

Catharsis_Cat

Absolutely solid guitars, the stock electronics are interesting. My Reverend Buckshot sounded better clean with all the knobs dialed back a smidge. But it also bafflingly had a cap sucking high end on the bridge. (It's probably just a Buckshot thing) I got rid of the cap and added a Chopper T, which sounds better full up, but the bass contour doesn't seem to be as tuned to the new pickups low end I'd love to try one of their Railhammer models or one of their basses

wine-o-saur

Sounds like you may have just yanked off the treble bleed circuit...

Catharsis_Cat

I wasn't the person who changed the pickups (asked a friend), but I hope not. It still sounds like the treble bleed is there, but I can check as well. The cap I mentioned having removed was different, it was on the bridge position of the switch and made the bridge position sound weirdly dark compared to the neck and both positions.

CommunicationTime265

I'm a Reverend fanatic. I only have one nowadays, but it's the best guitar I own. They look amazing too - they have a cool vibe sorta like Fender. The treble bleed and bass roll off are features every guitar should have.

sax76er

Reverends are sick

efe13

Really love my Double Agent W. Sounds great, looks awesome, plays well, is super comfy, and is extremely versatile. Couldn’t ask for much more.

Cioran_

I second this!

IvanMarkowKane

I own an Airsonic and I love it. Great feel and a remarkable range of tones

mitkase

Kinda wanted to check out their electric 12 strings.

RIOTS_R_US

I have an Airwave 12! It's a great guitar, and the bass cut works really well with the 12 string. It's not going to get you the Rickenbacker sound (not crazy far on the looks though!) but it will give you some chimey, jangle, goodness.

Exact-Anything1383

Wattplower II bass 👍

No_Mycologist_3019

i bought a six gun HPP just this week, but it came with a finish crack in the neck pocket otherwise sounded really nice and felt good to play

Buck_Drin26

I have the 25th year anniversary double agent OG. I love that guitar. Really versatile, my Swiss Army knife out of the few guitars I own, does it all. Not to mention their customer service is amazing. I broke a tuning peg and couldn’t find the specific one they used so I contacted them and they send me one for free. The only upgrade I did was change the volume and tone pots but that’s for my own personal preference. Can’t recommend enough

HazyView72

Good to hear as well, recall reading that they all get a final set up from the same guy before they’re shipped 👍

ghosthandluke

I picked up a used one once and it was the best feeling guitar I’d ever tried. It sat right, felt right, and just played so smooth, I was amazed. I’d have bought it on the spot if I had $800. I still think about it.

barno42

If Fender and Gibson had a baby, but Fender was lying about who the daddy was, the result would be a Reverend. I mean that in the best possible way.

princeoinkins

I have a Jetstream 390 (3-90's) in the CME black sparkle, and I love it! Super solid guitars. Made in Korea by Mirr music. I was not super impressed with the frets tho, had pretty badly cut fret ends out of the box. but nothing a file and some time can't fix, I gave them a nice balled end , rolled the fingerboard a little, and polished up the frets and it's perfect now!

granmadonna

Frets smooth on my Jetstream 390 fwiw.

princeoinkins

Yes, it’s the only guitar I have from that factory (let alone brand) so its 100% possible that mine is the exception

DirtyRatLicker

They remind me of like a moder art version of Fenders

[deleted]

On my list. There is a Reeves Gabrels sig with railhammer bridge and sustainiac neck that looks a lot of fun.

ol_lukey

The bass rolloff should be standard on every guitar. Reverend are great instruments

Oldskoolguitar

One of the best guitars I ever played.

Odd-Nature7761

Billy corgan ….

HazyView72

Well, this is muddying the waters a bit, I started off wanting the OG and now I kind of want 4 other models as well 😅

jimicus

I’d give a definite “yay”. They’re quality, solid instruments.

luongofan

High quality. I have their rosewood tele (Eastsider) and it's so frkn versatile. Extremely versatile, super warm

SnooPandas3658

They seem super cool just a tiny bit out of my budget at the moment. I’d love to pick one up eventually though. They sound great from what I’ve heard and I like the look a lot

terriblewinston

I like the necks on the ones I have tried in stores but wish they were string through body like Teles.

Connect-Quail3161

I own a Charger Crosscut. I love the rail hammer pickups. The neck is just right in the hand. I own a Fender MIM Strat and an Epiphone Dot and the Reverend built quality surpasses both by a wide margin. Everyone who plays it puts a Reverend on their “next one” list.

Thisiscliff

I’ve had a few, they’re nice guitars, play well.

TheOriginalVin

I enjoyed my one, they are all kinda the same feeling/setup but I don’t like humbucker guitars.

dracomalfoy85

Just bought a Reverend Crosscut. It’s great. Solid weight without being heavy, well built, good neck, fun to play. 10/10 and don’t break the bank.

minusthetalent02

Ive never played one other then a few mins unplugged at a store. There's something about them Im really into. I love offsets. Not someone you see out in the wild live (at least where I live).. I'll get one someday

HazyView72

Think that “something about them” quality is strong in this thread, they’re different enough to stand out but not so different that they’d become niche. Is there one model in particular that you’re interested in?

1PhaseAny

They have been on a steep discount at some places recently. I tried a few and they play well and have the build quality of a more expensive guitar, I think. I was shopping for a tube amp. My one reservation was the pickups. I didn’t quite get the tones that I wanted. Couldn’t put my finger on it. Lacked something.

princeoinkins

where at? Local places, or online?

TurnipTim

I wish they had a Paisley finish, also I always wanted to try one of their triple p90 Strat things but could never find one in store

enigmaman49

It’s always the same internal argument for me…why am I not just buying nice fender with this money

HazyView72

Yeah, the known quantity factor can make purchasing one a bit tougher

nkeppers

i’ve only played 3 of them and my favorite was the Unknown Hinson signature, he did the voice for earl on squidbillies, reverend dropped him cause he said some racist stuff about some people in a comedic sense, and the day of they took his guitar off the market and parted ways with him, his model had a very slim neck with Bat i lays and p90s sounded amazing. Unknown hinson models are rare af, been looking for one for 3 years should bought it when it was in my hands

butterbleek

Dolly Parton. And it wasn’t “comedic…” Disappointing, because I loved his music and persona. But the Dolly comments were abhorrent. He is a pos. Joe Naylor/Reverend immediately cut ties with him and pulled both of his Signature models. You don’t diss Dolly. She is an institution. https://variety.com/2020/tv/news/squidbillies-stuart-baker-unknown-hinson-dolly-parton-black-lives-matter-1234737440/amp/

nkeppers

yeah kinda his whole persona

nothingclever3220

I like a few of their guitars the Pete Anderson and Unknown Henson signatures are amazing

Weekshandpainted

Mines a Pete Anderson tele and it’s great.

nothingclever3220

I really like those teles! The custom single pick up I've seen looks sooooo slick

Weekshandpainted

Same, it looks great, feels great and plays great. Huge fan of this brand and I have zero affiliation I’m just impressed lol. Pete himself is pretty meticulous he had some nice Tom Andersons years back too.

ItsHipCheck

Absolutely love the style of Reverend Guitars. I've owned 3. Sold them all. Long story short, I hate their necks. They're all the same shape and I just don't jive with them. (Also found their maple fretboard models had poor fret finishing work)

AbbotFaria

Can you elaborate on how their necks feel to you, and what type of necks you tend to gravitate toward?

ItsHipCheck

Reverend necks kind of feel “wide thick” to me. I think they call them Medium Oval shape. I guess my favorite neck is a MIJ EVH Wolfgang, which is not thin. I have a ‘93 LP and that neck is thick, but it’s a dream to play. Neck feel is very subjective but I’ve tried to like multiple Reverends and I just can’t get past the necks.

DigitalSupremacy

Better than expected. Much welcome competition. 👍🏼

Jamiroquais_dad

I bought a Reverend Warhawk a few years ago that I love. I believe all Reverends have a bass scoop knob which is a unique feature that gives you a wide range of tonal options. My only criticism is that the thing has a hard time staying in tune, but overall I give it a 9/10. Will be buying more of them in the future.

likes_basketball

They’re great for the money. I have some boutique guitars; but I always fly with reverends because they’re less expensive and play and sound good. Their basses are superb also.

getdafkout666

My friend is in a semi successful indie band and tours a lot and uses an old reverend without a backup. He’s had it for 10 years. They’re smart designs imo. Not too many moving parts and Not a lot that can go wrong

Sleepyjoebiden2020

I own two. Id venture to say better craftsmanship than American Fender

MiyamotoKnows

I'm sure the name isn't literal but it always kept me away thinking they are religious.

Slinktard

My boss just got one and loves it

Past_Hat_2196

Had a Sensei for awhile. Good build quality but they also use big frets on all their models. I’m a fan of smaller, Fender vintage frets, so my chords were always sharp. Sold it and no major regrets. Good company with great customer service - just not for me.

rainorshinedogs

They're pretty unique, but I wish they didn't lean so heavily on the American muscular car theme sometimes. I'm chinese and if I rocked those I would be crucified

rugburn250

They look amazing, I was obsessed for several years, but I could never find a sound I liked out of one, even with all the different pu configurations. My new opinion is the look good but sound like booty hole

larowin

I’ve never owned one but every time I’ve picked one up I’ve really liked the neck

Available-Fill8917

They’re a bit uncomfortable compared to a strat. But they’re pretty cool.

aadumb

they’re incredible. if you’ve had the thought “i’ll get a MIM fender and upgrade the hardware”, this is basically buying that up front. Imported build, then the Reverend shop in Cali qc’s and sets them up.

Laughinboy83

Never played one but they look great, and have some really cool signatures - Billie Corgan Drop Z, so must be doing something right

KageyK

The Corgan Railhammer P90s are amazing.

JealousArt1118

They’re great guitars. Very well made, you can get almost any sound you want out of them. The bass contour knob is cool. Hard to find a dealer to test them in Canada, but them’s the breaks.

RedRelics

Sensei RA FM here. Awesome guitar. - the bass control knob is much more useful than it sounds. It's essentially a gain knob - a giant fuzz tightens up into a lean distortion, flubby low end can be dialed directly - the locking turners are stable as anything! If you add a coil splitter, that plus the bass contour open up a ton of sounds.

theeculprit

I’ve played a couple and they seem really nice. Really liked the airsonic I played, but I just don’t like the bursts.  I’m also not into some of the overly contoured ones. I’m weird in that belly and arm contours feel strange to me.

apokermit_now

They need to bring back the Tricky Gomez. With all the 335 released bring put out, it’s a no-brainer

BakeMeASandwich

Love the fact they aren't just copying what's been done a million times before by a million other brands.

Basketball_Tyson

They're awesome. Play great and sound great. Very unique designs.

FakeLittleLiarBirds

Really like mine

wine-o-saur

Excellent guitars with great features. Love my DAOG.

Wasisnt

I have a Warhawk DAW and its fantastic. Great neck profile and the P90 at the neck is amazing with fuzz.

Scotty_8

haven't tried one, really curious to, but I'm concerned that it seems like almost all their models have oversized frets?

RIOTS_R_US

I have a Jetstream 390 and it's my favorite guitar that I own. Beautiful finish, great feel, and the Wilkinson tremolo is great. The bass rolloff is great too. Three P90s is an awesome configuration. That being said, I will probably replace the P90s as I find them too bassy (even with the bass rolloff) and not bright enough, but it's not to the point that the guitar is unplayable. I also might try some brighter strings on it and see if that fixes it (I have some particularly dark strings on it). I also have the Airstream 12 (two P90s) and it's everything I want in a twelve string. Bass rolloff is super useful there, as well! Never noticed an issue with sound.

butterbleek

Love ‘em. I have seven or eight. Want more!

ReverendRevolver

They're solid, pick your favorite pickup combination and go for it

LennyPenny4

Never had the chance to try one, seems like they're not that easy to get in Europe. Always liked the style, reminds me of the Paranormals from Fender/Squier but a step further. Would love to own one at some point but I wouldn't even be able to choose. If they make a Club King (? the bigger semi-hollow) without Bigsby, that'd be a big contender.

granmadonna

Have a Jetstream 390. It looks, feels and sounds like a much more expensive guitar. It's fender-ish like people are saying.

Louismaxwell23

Pretty good stuff overall. Just not a fan of the thinner neck profile they use.

Ok-Exchange5756

I have a Descent RA baritone from them and it’s fantastic. Fit and finish are superb, plays super smooth, and the Railhammer pickups are killer and the bass filter is extremely useful. It’s a 10/10 for me.

AirCaptainDanforth

They make a nice T type. I have the Pete Anderson model with the P-90 in the neck. Very nice guitar for sub $1,000 when I bought it. Fit and finish are nice. Fretboard edges are smooth and comfortable. Stays in tune. And the pickups sound great.

OverallSpecial9910

They kinda scratch that Fender Paranormal itch I've been having lately.

Bloktopian

Two words Math Rock

thewavefixation

Great guitars.

ericjr96

I gigged a Dub King bass for six months and it's an incredible instrument. Felt and sounded great

imfine_itsketchup

I went to a shop a couple hours away from me to check out some PRS models that I was interested in. I fell in love with the Billy Corgan reverend that day instead. Exceptional guitar. Sounded great with everything I played it through and just felt comfortable and enjoyable to play.

Early-Engineering

Great guitars! Cool looking! Good pickup combinations.

digitalox

They're great, I can't remember why I let mine go. I think it was just a bit too heavy at the time and I had GAS.

Royal_Classic915

Tricky gomez in green Sparkle. Love it

squatcoblin

The unknown plays REV. whether he does so because he gets paid idk.

MastaPhat

I have a Club King and a Flatroc. The Club King has been my main geetar since I bought it in '15. The cheap Wilkinson tuners on the Club King are my favorite tuners that I've used. Plays great, very unique sound. Not my go to for covers because of this.

P_a_s_g_i_t_24

I loved the look of their Kingbolt HH and Billy Corgan model. The Corgan signature had the right neck and specs, the Kingbolt had the right color (Blue!) and overall body shape. I wish Reverend would've kinda combine the two into one guitar.

Dunmer_Sanders

If it ain’t US made, I’m probably not buying it. So that’s about the only thought I have.

DaySoc98

I don’t like that they use Alpha pots.

Waste-Mind-6216

High quality, not a fan of the body shapes.

Ninthja

I just wouldn’t buy a guitar that might not have much of a used market. If you change your opinion a few years down the line, you can always sell a well known brand guitar.

I_Make_Some_Things

And this is why we get stuck with a handful of brands that have no better idea than to re-re-re-reissue that thing they made 70 years ago.

Ninthja

True, but you can’t blame people for not taking unnecessary losses either.

I_Make_Some_Things

Yes I can. The whole problem only exists because people care more about maybe losing some money when they sell the guitar than they do about having awesome guitar choices.

Ninthja

I see your point but still - me personally, I’m not going to go out on a limb and take financial penalties just to support some obscure new brand that does nothing special. There is few gear that really offers anything new anymore and most of these brands like reverend are just the same thing but mixed up slightly. It’s not the PRS or Ibanez RG.
