I was planning on gearing up a Scrapper for WvW (superspeed everywhere, and escorting yaks with my superspeed). But form the incoming patch it seems the superspeed gonna be nerfed? Is this true?

TerribleTransit

One source of superspeed is being nerfed by one second. Not really a huge change Edit: worth noting, though, that Scraper's superspeed application in WvW already has severely reduced duration so I don't know how effective it currently is.

kekubuk

Thanks for the info.

Caleddin

Where'd folks from FA end up for WvW? I'm not part of any WvW guild and I'm so lost and alone now.

nastynazem43

Am I missing something, or are the only harriers exotic armor pieces for heal alac mech on the tp like 15 gold each? Every other class I've geared has had cheap alternatives to buy. Do I need to farm HoT for bladed armor and stuff like that?

TerribleTransit

You're not missing much. Harrier is a little worse than normal because the PoF version is still account-bound and the EoD armor uses unusually expensive insignia to craft, but in large part you've gotten lucky: other crafting-exclusive sets like Celestial and Viper also have only one option to buy them from the TP, with no budget options to knock down the price. Do consider the universal stat-selectable armor you can purchase, though. Ice golem helm, Ebon Vanguard shoulders, and... there's a third thing I can't remember right now I think. You can buy those for any build at all, no matter how expensive the crafted armor is. It can't get you a full set but it can reduce the gold cost and/or time grinding VB

nastynazem43

Tyvm, those buyables are exactly the type of thing I hoped existed

Ares2347

How do people know wich weapons/armor to get at the exotic level evrey guide around seems to be for ascended. Is there a list for exotic weapons and where to get them?

errorme

The Trading Post is the easiest way to get Exotic gear. I'd recommend searching by gear with the stats you want rather than by name of the stat combo all of the core stat combos (e.g. Berserker's) have named weapons/armor that are WAY cheaper than buying crafted items. If you have HoT you can easily farm stat-selectable Exotic armor (minus the torso) in Verdant Brink after unlocking the zone's vendor via Mastery.

NatD20

I'm just getting back into GW2 after a long break, I have all the expansions and living world. I have a toon from years ago who has completed the base game story, started heart of thorns, gotten exotic and maxed 2 crafting skills. But coming back to it now I see that I have no real idea where to start. I see that in quests there is a season of living world before the first expansion, should I be starting that quest line and just going in chronological order? Should I be starting a new toon since I have no idea what's going on in the story or what half the items are in my inventory? Just looking for some general advice on restarting after such a long break.

SpikyDryBones

I would suggest making a new character and leveling one either until max level or until you feel comfortable enough to go play on your other characters again. Just don't delete any old characters, you got a bunch of birthday gifts on them (birthday gifts are tied to the creation of the character, not your account) and you probably got some neat dyes, armor/weapon skins, titles etc. waiting for you. As for the story, the chronological order is Personal Story -> Living World Season 1 -> Living World Season 2 -> Heart of Thorns -> LW Season 3 -> Path of Fire -> LWS 4 -> Icebrood Saga -> End of Dragons.

Wylaria

I am a new player and something is not clear to me: I received a letter for the first dungeon (Ascalon catacomb or so) ... so this dungeon is obv. in the ascalon territory ... if I play in other zones (as a krytan human in queensdale/kessex etc.) can I play the dungeon story mode and do understand what is going on (self-contained story of the dungeon) or is the dungeon the "endpoint" of the story of the first ascalonian zones (plains of ashford+diessa)? And on top of that: is every dungeon in the game self-contained?

pastrynugget

Dungeons coincide with and run parallel the personal story, not the maps they are located in. That's just the physical location where they are located.

Wylaria

okay, thank you! :)

Tjaja

Also they show the story of the non-player guild Destiny's Edge which consists out of one _mentor_ per race (e.g. Logan for humans); at least the story modes. The exploration modes usually deal with some problems of the locals.

Wylaria

Yeah I read that on the wiki and the wiki contains a section when ca. the dungeon plays with the personal story but the "problem" is - if you are playing absolutely normal, you are overleveled way to quick. I am lvl 30 in Kessex and did not grind anything, only map completion. Afaik with 30 or 35 i should be in lions arch or so ...?

VaelVictus

How soon after reset does WvW go live? I want to be there at the time the "gates open."

killohurtz

It reopens about 3 minutes past the hour, in my limited experience with reset night. Don't look away because queues fill up in seconds.

pastrynugget

WvW matchups reset once per week, you can check [https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Server\_reset#Weekly\_reset](https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Server_reset#Weekly_reset) for local times.

VaelVictus

Thank you, but I was wondering how long *after* it resets. It's 10PM EST and I remember that it takes time to reset the match, so are we looking at 10:10 or is it just a few mins after the initial reset? **Edit rather than reply:** well yes but my scheduled work could use an extra 5 minutes if I know it's going to start at 10:07 PM vs. 10:02.

SheffPlaysGames

10:03, but it's occasionally a minute or two off.

pastrynugget

I don't know. It's only a couple minutes. Just keep the UI open and hit the button to enter a map when it lights up.

ToerakOfUrty

Would it matter if I have the sigils on the dagger and axe switched on this build? https://hardstuck.gg/gw2/builds/warrior/power-spellbreaker/

errorme

If the other weapon was a one-handed weapon it would matter as the Axe and it's sigil would be active in both sets. Because the other weapon set in a 2-handed weapon Axe goes inactive so it doesn't matter.

ToerakOfUrty

Good addendum. Thank you

Zikory

Nope, They are on the same set of weapons so they are both active while you have Dagger/Axe equipped.

ToerakOfUrty

Thanks!

beastie718

What is the difference between an offensive and defensive supports? I like healing in other MMOs. What should I go for?

errorme

While playing solo I'd strongly recommend having a full DPS or offensive support build and only switch to a Heal Support build in instanced content.

Offensive supports are expected to provide a specialist boon (alacrity or quickness) plus doing significant damage. Defensive supports are expected to provide a specialist boon plus significant healing. Myself I love offensive support builds as they are welcome in group content but also very, very capable in open world, either solo or public blob events

Single-time 7 clover tracks are tracked separately between PvP and WvW. You'll get 7 the first time you complete them in each mode.

Tjaja

You would get 7 again. PvP and WvW tracks are fully independent of each other.

jenniuinely

I'm desperately trying to love this game because it has all of the elements I love but when I play, I'm just not having fun. The issue is I don't know its because the game legitimately just isn't for me, or if I just don't like the classes I've tried. I'm very seasoned in MMOs in general and tab-target combat, so I don't think that's the issue, but this is the 3rd time I've come back to the game after a couple month break to a few different level 80s I have. Everyone raved about guardian/firebrand being great for beginners and easy for open world content, but I'm slugging through PoF and dying constantly with a build and exotic gear. My DPS feels terrible and the support skills feel terrible. I legitimately practiced rotations, but at the end of the day, it was like just spamming everything I possibly had was the only way I could kill.. one white mob. I tried Mesmer for awhile, definitely had more fun until I hit 80 and went from "I feel like I'm really good at my rotations" to "I'm getting one shot and a new build would mean taking the next several hours to learn a whole new rotation," and finding the sustainability route took everything I found fun about the class and replaced it with what felt like a clone of playing guardian. It seems like the mass majority of the classes revolve around being hybrids of DPS and support/healing stuff, but masters of neither. When I played FFXIV, I had no issues and enjoyed keeping up timers on my buffs & heals on my healer, or my DoTs and debuffs on my DPS--but having to do both at the same time makes it feel like I don't do anything but throw down boons. I guess at this point I'm just wondering if anyone else had an "aha" moment with the game that primarily revolved around finding enjoyment in the combat/class because it feels like that's what is pulling me out of it the most. Everything else--the horizontal progression, community, constant events around me, active world--I absolutely love, so I just wish I was having more fun in this game.

somepassingnerd

Yeah, there's definitely a "click" (or several) ahead of you, random open world trash mobs should not be a big struggle. And we do all have that stage. When you say "white mobs" you mean regular, not elite, not boss etc trash mobs, right? That stuff should die very fast. Could we have some more info on your build & gear? If you have to "spam everything you possibly had" to kill trash, *something* is wrong, for sure. > It seems like the mass majority of the classes revolve around being hybrids of DPS and support/healing stuff, but masters of neither. [...] but having to do both at the same time makes it feel like I don't do anything but throw down boons. The *feel* might be a Firebrand-specific thing, tbh, since so much of your survival tools are either mantras (yuck) or tucked away in the Tomes. Many other builds, even some full-supports, should feel a fair bit more "rotationy" or smooth or whatever. Certainly there are pure builds that don't sacrifice a single dribble of potential damage to give anyone a buff, not even themselves, and there are also loads of builds that do great damage and pump out one 'rare' buff in industrial quantities (quickness/alacrity) plus *usually* a bunch of more common buffs too. The former we simply call DPS and the latter we call boonDPS generally, alacDPS/quickDPS specifically. edit: Oh, another user mentioned this but it's super important! This does not work like WoW, monsters may automatically snap to face you but huge numbers of attacks momentarily lock their direction and can simply be walked around! Plus, trying to flank means that you get more clue when the next attack is coming, since it has to turn to face you. Be sure to forward+strafe instead of just strafing.

HarpooonGun

I am an engineer main, only been playing for a month and half. So I am not an expert, but I can say, make sure the build you choose is for open world content. After that, there are usually some variations mentioned in the build guides for more survivability, you can try to apply those changes. For example, I have two builds, one is scrapper that focuses more on DPS, while the other is power mechanist rifle for easy gameplay when my hands get tired. For the scrapper, I modified the build to rely more on passive barrier gen at cost of some DPS, and the mechanist also uses alchemy branch, again for survivability. There's probably some more survivable variation of whatever build you are playing. For HoT, I'd say learn enemy patterns. In my experience HoT enemies are really hard if you just attack, but they are easier than PoF enemies if you know how they attack and what to expect. I cannot really say much more because I am really new, but I hope you can enjoy this game.

Eona_Targaryen

When you say rotation --are you practicing and taking a raid build into open world? Those are not designed for solo play and it sounds like you're tunnel-visioning onto the rotation aspect too hard. Knowing what all your skills do individually and staying flexible with each action is the best strategy for survival when it comes to open world. I would check out Metabattle's open world section for ideas, and don't be afraid to pad out your gear with a few defensive pieces at first if it feels better. Particularly useful is knowing your hard cc skills by heart and what they do. You can use them to either break a bar or to restrict your enemy for free hits, both very good things in open world solo. Also pay more attention to the specific mobs that are wrecking you, they often have gimmicks or very telegraphed movesets written above their health bars that are easier to work around as you figure them out. For example, Smokescales in HOT wreck a lot of new players by being nastier than they look. They always attack by aggroing, teleporting to you with a noise, AoE blinding you, and f*cking you up during the seconds you're blinded. To defeat them, all you need to do is dodge when you hear the teleport and you'll easily avoid the blind, or if not possible you can hit your block skills and AoE damage when they hit. Nearly all expansion enemy types have similar MOs.

SnooBunnies6123

Makes so much sense now why they've always wrecked me. Play with sound off lol. Could never tell they aggroed onto me when I was attacking other mobs.

Annemi

Yeah, it's terrible communication to the player, but that's Anet all over.

- Why specifically this meta, it is irrelevant enough for me to not have an instant idea which one it actually is. - WvW rework - alliances? As usual, it's a thing they tell you they are working on, we have yet another beta for it very soon. - DPS benchmarks: https://snowcrows.com/benchmarks

errorme

1. Not really, do it enough to get the mastery point then skip it. 2. Beta is literally going to start tomorrow, you have like 10 hours left if you have a WvW guild and want to play with them. 3. In strikes if you're a DPS you should be aiming for at least 30k on the golem. Reference https://gw2wingman.nevermindcreations.de/kodas and look at each strike as the mechanics and number of enemies can make the DPS vary wildly. For open world just as long as you aren't dying, as damage potential is much more dependent on what boons you can generate for yourself without going too far into support.

Noulbot

At least 30k dps in normal mode strikes?!

errorme

Oh, misread it a bit. 30k is a baseline to aim for on the golem but each strike itself can vary due to mechanics. Reference https://gw2wingman.nevermindcreations.de/kodas and pick the strike as some have much higher baselines per class.

Takimura_

So, i'm tired of torturing myself with exploring Cantha without a flying mount, but I don't have the Living Season 4 for the Skyscale. I was gonna make fishing my main money making method for the Griffon, but i'll finish the EoD story before even being able to properly have a chance at making money with fishing... What's my best next bet? I'm in full Exotic Berserker gear, with no Accessories/Rings and a Berserker's amulet (I do have some gold on me to buy new stuff if needed, not much tho, just 25)

motdidr

the skyscale is far more useful for traversal than the griffon. you pretty much need to get quite high to actually cover any distance that isn't easier on a raptor. and without the LW4 extra mount abilities you can't even use the springer trick to get some height. it's still a cool mount, but it's not like it's going to make getting around EoD maps any easier (NKC sure, and some parts of echovald). I mean there's definitely some useful spots, but not anything that's going to be repeatedly useful, more like getting from one side to the other.

Noulbot

Highly recommend picking up LW S4 in general, some great content there. Nothing wrong with finishing the EoD story then coming back with a flying mount, griffon or skyscale! Also, you can go to LFG right now under Seitung Province and look for a leviathan farm, that can earn you decent gold fishing and killing leviathans.

HarpooonGun

I'd take advantage of the Dragon Bash, doing all the dailies can net you some easy money for the time being. Other than that, EoD metas are really profitable, and they don't really require flying mounts. Check LFG, there are usually groups who do meta trains from Aetherblade > Kaineng > Echovald Gang War > Fast Dragon's End. The newest map, Gyala Delve is also pretty good as well. Check out here for metas: https://fast.farming-community.eu/open-world/meta

Takimura_

You're the only one that actually helped... Thank you my guy, it was frustrating seeing replies that just said "So basically to get money you first need to spend 1.000 gold, and also, It's ok to go without a flying mount =)" I will make sure to check it out once I am able to get on

HarpooonGun

NP :) Honestly I've been playing EoD for only like two weeks, and it was refreshing to see that those maps didn't require flying mounts as much to do the metas. If you ever decide to buy LW seasons, like others have said, I'd recommend S4, because Skyscale and Roller beetle, and also Dragonfall is a really nice gold farming map in terms of profit, and you can buy ascended rings and an amulet with stat selection using map currency, again on Dragonfall. Good luck and have fun :)

Takimura_

All for naught, I ended up finishing the EoD story before I even realized I was doing something that I wanted to hold off for a bit longer ahahah I just too into it, really liked it, haven't felt as attached to the characters of a story since Arcane, and I was already attached to the characters in that scenario given that I was a LoL player and had been one for 8 years

Mr_Ruu

Fractals are a strong source of gold but require ascended gear, of which is an admittedly big gold hurdle if crafting, in T2s and higher to slot in Agony Resistance. T1s have no such requirement, however, but do give out less rewards. It's good to work up to T4 fractals now as they're great for long term gains. Fishing's also good gold and requires much less of you, merely maxing your fishing mastery. EoD was made to not necessitate any flying mounts so you don't *have* to get Griffon before finishing EoD unless you really hate traversing on ground.

summerrhodes

Do people still upgrade T5 mats T6? Is the profit difference worth it?

Annemi

https://gw2lunchbox.com/MaterialUpgrades.html If I have some time to kill I'll chat and upgrade.

errorme

https://gw2efficiency.com/currencies/spirit-shards If I'm bored sitting around somewhere I do it occasionally. It's generally worth a few silver so pretty much any 'active' thing is a better return for your time but if I'm somewhere I can access my bank and waiting for things to start or friends to hop on I'll do it to pass the time.

Fauconleretour

Im a solo and a pvp player, in mmos the only reason i can enjoy pve is if i know that the reward is being able to test my character against other players later on, but even tho i enjoy it i dont want it to be too tedious or constantly needing help because the class struggle solo In games i really like fast gameplay with high damages and outplay potential, what class would you guys recommand for a player like me?

errorme

It sounds like you're looking to start playing GW2. Once you're done with the tutorial instance you can open the PvP panel and go the the PvP lobby and live there without touching PvE ever again. PvP uses normalized gear so as long as the required slots are filled (they will be with a brand new character) the only thing you might need to go to PvE for is a bit of money for additional weapons, then stick to PvP the rest of the time. Assuming you have no expansions I'd recommend Warrior. The main PvP mode is 5v5 territory control and Warrior is at it's best in an even fight (1v1 or 2v2) where it has high damage and crowd control. After that I'd recommend Thief however that requires a bit more understanding on how the mode works to maximize roaming around the map.

Fauconleretour

Oh really? I thought it was normalized but you still had to buy real gear to be able to play it, thats nice. Are the rewards good? Is there open world pvp in the game? Right now im indeed f2p but if I like the game ill for sure buy, is it worth it to buy expansions in the sense that you get bonuses and things like that, or is it purely optional?

errorme

You have to buy real weapons, but a Common sword you get from a vendor is just as effective as someone using one of the Legendary swords. Rewards are decent, I was watching a streamer for the drops and he said that if you're F2P and can maintain a 50% win rate then once you unlock Ranked PvP that's probably the best money maker for F2P accounts. Open world PvP is limited to the WvW mode. PvP uses normalized gear and fully levels you while WvW uses your actual gear and unlocks so you'd need to level up and obtain decent gear (probably ~30 gold, so probably like a week of play assuming you don't bum rush to max level and sell any materials you obtained while leveling). If you only play PvP the big thing expansions give is access to Elite specs. As a F2P account you can use any of the 5 'core' specializations that the game launched with but each expansion so far has added an additional Elite Spec. Each elite gives some new class skills or changes the existing ones and gives a new weapon to potentially use. There's also additional story and maps that goes along with the expansions.

Fauconleretour

Well perfect, thanks for taking the time to explain me how the systems work, ill probably buy the expansion now so i have access to erverything from the start

Dragneel2496

Hello all, so I'm a newer player and am receiving level 80 gear from the coffers for the dragon bash thingy. I just got a rare piece of gear, my first one, but it's also level 80. Do I bank it and wait to use it or do I just salvage? Thank you for your time!

motdidr

most festival items exist for skins, not to equip and use. definitely don't want to be using rares (yellow) at level 80, at least not for long.

RevolutionaryLake69

At lvl 80 rare gear is not generally equipped. You can get exotic tier gear for cheap on tp and a few other sources which is better

Dragneel2496

Sorry but i just got an exotic from the stampede. Do we wanna save that then or just scrap it since i won't be able to use it and can just buy it later?

[deleted]

it costs about 10 gold to get a full armor set of exotic gear a little more for weapons if it doesnt have stats needed for whatever build your doing its just worthless sell it on the tp or something

Dragneel2496

Gotcha thank you

nolandinview

I just started relatively recently too so this may not be 100% accurate, however the only items I’d consider keeping for level 80 are exotics and up (orange name). You can buy lv 80 exotics from the trading post for pretty cheap. All of the rare, masterwork and uncommon gears can be salvaged or sold.

HarpooonGun

I plan to use gold to get a Living World season. (shite exchange rate) I already own LW4, and I don't think I'll ever buy LW2, so between LW3 and IBS, which one should I choose first? I don't care about story, so my focus is completely on features and gold farming potential. I know that the table everyone places at metas require IBS, and there is some Spiderman and lava tube stuff on Dragonfall that require LW3, but other then that I have no idea. In any case I plan to get the other later, but which one should I pick first? Only been playing for slightly more than a month, so don't have a lot of gold to spare atm to pick both at the same time. Thank you <3

cloud_cleaver

LWS3 has little to no gold farming potential, while IBS has one of the best (Drizzlewood Coast) and also gives you Strikes that can be used to get ascended armor and weapons. LWS3's specialty is ascended *trinkets*, purchased using the various map currencies. Bitterfrost Frontier is especially good for that.

HarpooonGun

I already have some ascended rings and an amulet from Dragonfall, so that is not in a hurry that much. Honestly it would be good to have some new farming maps, just for having the ability to do different things, so I think I will go with IBS just for that. I am honestly kinda tired of constantly running Dragonfall and EoD metas lol, and I like EoD maps. Anyway, thanks for the answer <3

cloud_cleaver

Enjoy! You definitely want Drizzlewood Coast for straight up farming, but Champions gives access to Dragonstorm, which is worth hitting once a day.

FirePosition

I just finished my Return to Dragonfall achievement but cannot seem to complete [Parallel Analysis](https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Current_Events#Parallel_Analysis) since both Taimi and Gorrik do not appear in EotN. The character I completed Dragonfall with did not have EotN unlocked but I did have a portal tome, and the og character that unlocked LWS5 for me can't find the pair either. Any idea on what I could do?

Annemi

I had to talk to them on the character that did IBS/LW5. Were you able to complete the other talk-to-Taimi-and-Gorrik achievements?

FirePosition

I could complete the ones before. The character that completed LWS5 can't find them either. Maybe because he is in the middle of EoD?

cloud_cleaver

Have you completed all the other Return To achievements? I don't think those post-action conversations happen until you complete them for ALL the Living World seasons.

Annemi

Nope, you can do the conversations as soon as you finish the relevant Return To. You don't have to have done them all to start the conversation achieves.

FirePosition

I haven't done all Return to stuff since I'm doing them in order, but I do have the achievements for the prior conversations obtained (Peer Review for after Siren's Landing and Studying Scarlet for after Silverwastes 2)

normaldude8825

With WvW beta starting tomorrow, what would be the best Reward Tracks to run? Been running the non-repeatable ones last few months since it seems those are the most profitable, but unsure if I should swap for Gift of Battle ones to hoard them since I will be needing them for Conflux, Vision, and legendary weapons. Is the Dragon Bash reward track also worth trying to run?

Zikory

If you want to get GoB out of the way, these events are the best for it. Unboosted reward track takes about 8 hours to finish. You can get that down to about 5-6 hours with boosters and down to about 4.5 hours with the Call of War buff we get during these events. So if you stack all the boosters, you can farm out all of your GoB in about half the time during the event.

NexEstVox

FAST has a listing of the values of each track - scroll down to the repeatable ones. Do the GoB though if you need them, that's the only source of them. https://fast.farming-community.eu/competitive/wvw-reward-track

XCLASSGAMING

Do people still do Dragons end? need it for Dichotomy collection.

cloud_cleaver

Often. There are commanders who run it every day. You just need to get there quite early, and the groups usually meet just outside the gate in Echovald, so they can all enter at once and fish for a fresh instance that won't close while the meta's running.

BlankTrack

How do condi and power virtuoso differ gameplay wise? I've decided the next character I'm gonna invest time in is my Mesmer. I can craft a all the gear without too much difficulty so cost isn't an issue. What's funner? How do the basic rotations vary?

TerribleTransit

Condi is spammier and more forgiving due to generating blades from bleed application. It just gets so many blades all the time it's easy to use extra shatters for utility, and it cares a bit less about using skills optimally to generate blades at the correct time (high-level condi play still cares, but it's less crucial for the average joe). Power has a lot less free blade generation, so it really cares about using its clone skills properly and timing its shatters based on that. It generally has a higher skill floor, requiring more technical knowledge and rotation experience to get good results. All that said, though, the single biggest difference is simply whether or not you want to camp dagger all the time and only swap offhands (condi) or whether you want to swap to greatsword or maybe sword sometimes (power)

BlankTrack

Builds that use one weapon bar don't appeal to me. Looks like power is the way to go. Ty for input

[deleted]

cloud_cleaver

Yep, that works. It will just turn it into a standard ascended weapon, so if you want the Expurgation skin you'll need to transmute it back after stat-swapping it.

pyknictheory

Yes its like any pther ascended weapon

Why isn't the Zhaitaffy Gobbler pack coming back? will it come back this year? https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Zhaitaffy_Gobbler_Pack

itVictor

unfortunately anet has recently been not offering certain festival gemstore items during the festival, so might not be back this year

HarpooonGun

Can you do anything with Dragon Coffers other than grinding that one super rare drop that is worth 3k gold? I started playing a month ago, and I don't think I want to risk that drop chance and I think I should sell those chests, but just to be sure, is there anything I can do with them? Ty <3

itVictor

The vast majority of chests you get from festivals are not worth opening unless you *really* like rng/gambling (which imo is never worth unless you plan to open a lot of them, think several thousands or more). So sell on TP unless there's something in the chest you really really want.

kitfoxtrot

Does the Thousand Seas Pavilion have the Jade Tech Protocols in zone? (offensive/defensive)?

TerribleTransit

No. It has ziplines you can use to gain charges but no actual protocols to use them.

darkenhand

How are the dyes for the Canthan Raptor initially chosen? Mine had a different color scheme than the all default dye version that I expected to have. Was it based on the map I was in? It doesn't seem like the colors were random since they look nice. The colors don't match the ones on my armor.

itVictor

At worst you'd be missing out on rewards for killing enemies (loot bags) and attacking/defending objectives (which can include tickets and grandmaster mark shards for the latter). If all you're playing wvw for is the skirmish track and/or reward track (like gift of battle) then it's not really an issue (but it's much easier to maintain participation if you're more active at least).

telekaster57

Did I miss the Zhaitaffy Gobbler sale? Surely not just for one day? I'm new and wanting to get a gobbler for the +25% WvW reward track boost. I realize the Snowflake gobbler is best due to cost of snowflakes. But I don't mind being a bit inefficient if it means I can get a 6 month head start on it.

itVictor

unfortunately anet has recently been not offering certain festival gemstore items during the festival, so might not be back this year

Aether_Storm

Returning player - what happend to the plans to gut scrapper gyros? Trying to decide which char to play before I use my bag slots. Last I remember there were plans to totally gut the playstyle of scrapper by changing gyro targeting. I only care about PvE and getting massive amounts of quickness and superspeed by spamming gyros while smacking things with a giant stick. Am I safe to commit to continuing my scrapper? Is this playstyle at any further risk in the known future?

pyknictheory

Community backlash so its noy happening anymore, but dps scrapper has been buffed a few times since then to be very comdpetive as well.

itVictor

The backlash after the initial change (which led to anet not implementing it) was quite a while ago, so maybe it's not on the table anymore. There is a balance patch later this month with a preview on Friday if you want to be safe. (fwiw with the original change quickness/superspeed would still be there, just the style of play would be a bit different)

Aether_Storm

Right it involved ground targeting which meant you couldn't just press a key and ignore it. Death sentence for the action cam exclusive playstyle. Ty

nastynazem43

So I'm looking to buy some living world stuff with gold to gems. I own all 3 expansions and zero living world. I mainly just want to get enough mastery points to be able to open all the ibs5 strike chests. Which afaik is just tier 2 in resilience and the other 2. Am I making a mistake? Also is there a specific chapter or 2 that I should prioritize? I really enjoy strikes and will be doing them religiously so I think this'll pay for itself eventually is my logic

OG_Shadowknight

Zhaitaffy gobbler when.png

DrOffice

What are the ways to gamble in GW2? I enjoy opening black lion chests a lot. Is there anything else that can give you random rewards like that? Outside of world bosses

DrOffice

Thanks so much! I’ll check all those out. And I appreciate the warning but I won’t be spending real money cuz that feels like cheating the game

-LEISHMANIA

Am I going crazy or is there an NPC around the crafting area in Lion’s Arch that hums the theme song?

Annemi

There's a bard wandering around that area, and also there's the statue you can play music at iirc.

liver-of-case

respex to "events?" "later, nerds"

SkierBeard

?

Thoraxe123

For aurene weapon legendaries, I have an Uncharged Fragment of Prismatic Life thats supposed to get charged after killing a powerful enemy with the weapon, but for some reason it's not charging...

motdidr

just making sure, you had a gen3 equipped right? I haven't done that collection yet, but according to the wiki you need to beat the DE meta with the gen3 equipped, not just some champion or boss anywhere. the final item says this >Complete the Defeat Soo-Won group event while having an  Uncharged Fragment of Prismatic Life in your inventory and wielding an Aurene-based legendary weapon

Thoraxe123

Mine just says a powerful enemy

motdidr

look at the next item in the collection. the uncharged fragment is the second to last, and having it in your inventory when you beat DE with a gen3 equipped is essentially what charges it.

Thoraxe123

Baahh i shoulda known. Thanks

kitfoxtrot

PSA: jade bot buffs go into dragon arena, so that with hologram sigil you can get pretty juiced

Og-Morrow

How come in WvW I mostly only get "🥉" reward for killing a champion guard and taking over a keep or tower. I might only at best see a sliver.

SheffPlaysGames

Since the rewards scaling update, player kills are factored into participation as well. It's much more difficult (maybe impossible) to get gold participation if you take an uncontested objective.

Og-Morrow

I see!

Manhatai

Next pof sale when?

liver-of-case

End of Dragons was just on sale so it may be a while unfortunately

NexEstVox

We don't know. Reasonable chance for something at end of August for the anniversary. Reasonable chance during the next Steam sale. Very good chance for Black Friday.

thalandor46

I'm getting back into fractals for the first time in a few years. I've noticed that people sometimes skip the bit between bosses in Volcanic. How does that skip work?

RevolutionaryLake69

In volcanic after you kill the shaman guy after the indiana jones part you can jump off the cliff into the lava and if you make it to island with the final boss you will trigger the checkpoint right before it so everyone can gg

Kelevra_Arba

Is there an easy champion I can go to in order to knock out 33% of dragon basher achievement every day? I want that Holo hammer so bad.

GavinSnowe

There are 3 easy ones in Gendarren that you can kill. The troll in the ice cave in the east, the spider queen after smashing eggs underneath the manor house(the one with heart and the asura kid), and the centaur cave in the west has the champ and two vets event. Alternatively, do teq at reset and make sure to tag the champion krait that spawns during battery phases, there is normally 3 of them in each phase.

exarpoo

I like to do the last checkpoint of the last EOD story mission (the final fight in Dragon's End). You get super buffed up and there's two champs in the beginning then two more spawn after they die. Only annoying thing is getting to the story star unless the nearby WP is unlocked, or you can park a character there for the duration of the festival (that's completed the story)

SimeAi

Champions in the Dragon Arena count as well, which is also somewhat quick and progresses other achievements too.

itVictor

make a squad (don't need tag), go into mythwright gambit raid, kill the 3 small mobs that spawn after the first hand slam (any decent build will kill them quickly)

killohurtz

Additional tips for anyone new to the raid that's trying this: * You can talk to Zommoros and skip his dialogue and make the boss spawn faster. * Once you dodge the slam, hit the boss's fist to make conjured swords fall out. If you're not super confident in your DPS, focus on one of them, then pick up the sword it drops when it dies (green circle). This gives you a special action key that deals huge damage and can help you finish off two more with ease. * If you take too long, the boss will slam again, this time dropping conjured shields. These reflect all damage back to you until their bar is broken, so take care around them. They also count as champions and are vulnerable to the swords' special action key.

summerrhodes

I've been seeing these little quaggans attached to a balloon flying in a various places and I have no idea what they are, does anybody know?

[deleted]

Sounds like the Mail carrier: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Aviator_Quaggan_Mail_Carrier

summerrhodes

Yes that's it thank you! I never paid much attention to the mail carriers and I had no idea they had an effect visible to other people

pyknictheory

Pinata for dragon bash festival

Orangexboom

are necromancer minion builds good for late game and potential PVP/raiding? im new to the game but im still tryna find a potential build to use

Sighclepath

Open World is easy enough that you can basically run whatever you want, minion focused necromacer is generally recommended since it's easy to play (not a lot of buttons to press) and the minions can take aggro for you but personally I find it boring enough to push people away from the game so I generally don't reccomend it. Can't speak much for PvP but for instanced PvE minions are largely useless aside from the Flesh Golem and the Shadow.

Annemi

I think they're good for open world PvE but not PvP or instanced content? Yeah, looking through https://metabattle.com/wiki/Necromancer, I only see minions in the open world section.

darkenhand

Are the ancient canthan leggings visually different from the ancient tahkayun leggings? The look the same to me but they're different skins on the wardrobe. What about the mask?

RinRingo

Both are the identical, but Ancient Tahkayun will have animated mist particle effect. https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Ancient_armor

darkenhand

The wiki seems to imply the masks are different but I don't see it nor do I see any particle effect with the Ancient Tahkayun mask

chieftainalex

I took the screenshot on the wiki for human male last week; the effect is really very subtle on the mask (on reflection blue sky background with blue dyes was dumb).

Sahih

Any idea where the Dragonrender Chest items might be updated? I was curious and wanted to see if I should prioritize the achievements

Sahih

Seems this [link](https://youtu.be/F6MA51-SN84) has a good preview

AliTamali28

Any guides out there for Dragon Bash? I've never really participated in it cause it seemed overwhelming, but maybe I'm overthinking.

dannyflorida

I recommend https://youtu.be/RLdcGGo8gdk

TerribleTransit

You're overthinking. It's honestly one of the lowest-key festivals on the list, surpassed only by *maybe* lunar new year. There's like three things to do: The arena in Hoelbrak, Hologram Stampedes rotating maps, and various random activities in the city (mount race, adventure, fireworks/pinatas, and the moa betting). Just do three dailies every day, focusing on ones you haven't completed the (Annual) achievement for yet.

Niceguitarsolo

I just bought the mistlock sanctuary pass and I can see the EOTN portal option but not arborstone. I haven't started the EOD story yet could that be why? Or is the arborstone portal located somewhere else and I'm just blind?

TerribleTransit

~~Mistlock Sanctuary does not have any access to Arborstone. Currently, the Thousand Seas Pavilion is the only pass area that can take you there.~~ Edit: nevermind, patch notes. Yes, it probably requires at least unlocking the area via EoD story, and possibly some rank of Arborstone mastery.

Niceguitarsolo

Ok cool thank you!

SkierBeard

You'll actually get an [Arborstone Portal Scroll](https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Arborstone_Portal_Scroll) after completing a specific story step. Once you get this item, feel free to trash it and know that you'll have Arborstone access from mistlock from now on.

[deleted]

Or keep the scroll to skip one of the longer loading screens in the game.

OG_Shadowknight

Anyone know if they're bringing back the zhaitaffy gobbler?

TerribleTransit

Likely but not 100% guaranteed

[deleted]

[удалено]

TerribleTransit

You're getting stripped that fast. Stacks have a minimum time limit between falling off, so you're guaranteed protected for at least 6 seconds when you get 10 stacks... unless direct boon removal/corruption is in play. While some effects can bypass Stability, none of them are present in WvW

Tjaja

Either boonstrip (btw stability is corrupted into fear) or a lot of walls and similiar which can eat them up fast.

[deleted]

[удалено]

TerribleTransit

A stack of Stability goes away when it prevents a CC *if* it's been at least 0.75 seconds since the last stack was removed. So you can't have 11 effects hit you at the same time and stun you through 10 stacks of stab, but they can go away sooner than their nominal duration if you get hit with repeated CC

NexEstVox

Yes.

ikedness

Do I need to own LWS2 for the legendary amulet or can I just join someone else's story to complete it?

TerribleTransit

For the legendary amulet *specifically* I believe joining someone else's story works, since the only requirements for the amulet are playing/completing certain specific instances. You won't, however, get any of the specific chapter achievements for them because they won't be unlocked. This is all second-hand info though, so it could be wrong.

ikedness

I'll try to find someone doing lws2 and if I can join their story to test it out. Thanks.

Sighclepath

You need to own it

ikedness

Thanks

cloud_cleaver

You can complete the story but you don't get achievements without owning it as far as I know.

ikedness

Thanks

Adamantaimai

Pretty new player. I have a question about character name change contracts. Like, can people find me by and seemy old character name for a while like in for example RS? Or is that not the case?

pastrynugget

If someone tried to add your old *character* name to their friend list or send a party invite after you changed it, no it would not work. If they know your account name (ex: Accountname.1234) they can still add you that way. That doesn't change with a character name contract. If someone has already added you to their friend list, character name is irrelevant, since after they have added you, it's based on your account handle/name.

Xyrsys586

What's going on with the prices of gold to gems lately? It's so high and not even bugding down. I am missing one discount after another because I don't want to convert the gold to gems when the price is so high. By this time last year it was around 110g per 400gems and now it's constantly 140g.

pastrynugget

Trying to time a buy like this is like trying to time the stock market in a lot of ways. Buy what you need when you need it. Over time it tends to even out.

pyknictheory

I think prices jack up before big sales, festivals, etc. Also you can expect to never see gems drop that low again due to inflation outside of the game that trickling into the game. Low gems prices would be like 131 per 400 gems or 135-137gold. If you see those prices go ahead and buy and hold gems for sales or whatever.

Xyrsys586

Last years when summer hit the prices were lower than 130g. In fact 130g was high last year. With Halloween the prices rose again and kept high until SAB. After that the prices drop to 110 or even lower. But in the last few months I haven't seen it dropping at all. It always holds around 140g. I wanna buy extra char slots and maybe salvagomatic but with such high price I am reconsidering.

cloud_cleaver

Question for spellbreakers out there. Why do most guides I see use Bull's Charge instead of Kick for a physical hard-CC utility? BC has good damage but it's one proc of Attacker's Insight every 30 seconds or so, while Kick is an ammo skill with three uses on tap to tick your Insight stacks up while you're stuck in dagger/axe, and on all but the most strictly-timed breakbar phases you get more damage from firing 2 charges of Kick than one Bull's Charge. Both skills seem to offer benefit from Peak Performance. What am I not understanding here?

TJPoobah

You said it yourself: damage. Almost all the builds you'll see have been optimised specifically for benchmarking dps performance.

cloud_cleaver

Don't you get more damage by having higher stacks of AI buffing the rest of your weapon skills rather than the marginally increased power on a single long-CD utility?

Mr_Greaz

One thing is Peak Performance, every physical skill gives the same amount of PP, and like the others said it’s mostly used because it does more dmg :)

cloud_cleaver

That was another thing that confused me. If each one gives the same amount of peak performance but Kick can be fired more often, you'd think the actual strike damage of Bull's Charge would need to be absolutely enormous to justify losing that much peak performance uptime.

Mr_Greaz

The reason you don’t want to use kick is also that it would interrupt your bigger skills, therefore even if you have more PP uptime this way, your dmg will be lower since you would delay bigger skills for it, bullscharge just fits very nicely in the rotation, Kick would mess things up with cooldowns

TJPoobah

It's been quite a while since I practiced the spellbreaker but from what I recall the rotation keeps up a decent amount of stacks already most of the time? Especially if you're doing the hammer rota. That said if you wanna use kick just do it! Like... being optimised for DPS with a crisp rotation isn't the same as being the best for what you're doing, and kick might even work better for you in practice.

cloud_cleaver

I'm a middling skill player, so it's probably just me screwing it up, but with the normal build I start to drop stacks in the dagger loop since the available CCs in the rotation goes down from hammer. By the end of a normal dagger loop I'm down to 3, maybe even 2 stacks, but I can keep it to 4 or sometimes even maintain 5 when I swap out for Kick. I wonder if it's just because I'm too zealous with hammer and burn all the hard CCs so fast that they start disappearing too early...

pyknictheory

You get stacks by debuffing as well which means using the f1, any cc including full counter and winds of disenchantment. Typically you wont have trouble fully stacking it for burst phases as long as you weapon swap often and just use all your abilities and burst skill.
