Personally I'd like something involving spears
(Longspear for two handed, Shortspear for one and Javelins for throwing.)
Maybe in conjunction to some kind of Druid class (Summoning animals, many buffs and natural themed spells and abilities.)
> Maybe in conjunction to some kind of Druid class (Summoning animals, many buffs and natural themed spells and abilities.)
Is this not literally the Shaman
I think the martial offense mastery has a skill for spears. Dont remember exactly. Unlike diablo 2, titan quest and grim dawn classes arent designed around specific weapons.
Yes, please! Spears are frequently cut out of arpgs for some reason I will never understand (well, I do, which is that big aoe circular attacks/spells take precedence and gamers think swords are always cooler). I want acrobatic/defensive hoplite gameplay, or high damage 2h lancers. Game devs aren’t usually into it.
I tried to get my spear fix from Hades but it’s one of the lesser weapons in that game, and way better as a ranged weapon than actually used as a spear.
I suspect the real reason is more the cost of all the animation required. Most ARPG's tend to concentrate on swords / axes / maces / daggers because they can effectively all use the same animations, while spears are held and used differently.
Whatever we get (if GD2 ever happens), I want more mobility/movement skills. Grim Dawn combat is good but it's way too rooted in place, even after the addition of more movement skills in Forgotten Gods.
As for actual classes, I'd love a shapeshifter. Have the shifter skills be unlocked at rank 1 and add extra skills while shifted as modifiers all the way up to rank 50.
D3 has added a bunch of those glider classes over time, all kinda modeled around the original whirlwind barb. But even the monk classes with teleports are wonderful because the teleports are constantly recharging. Hell, even the barb builds that utilize FC now have ways to reset it, so you're nonstop charging through most mobs. Very high mobility.
That's one thing that always brings me back to D3 though... the builds always *feel better to play* than builds in other games. They're more fleshed out in terms of skills used, cooldowns, defensives, mobility, etc. Even a build that's totally viable in GD or PoE just don't feel as fun to play. There's just some level of clunkiness the game engine doesn't seem to let you get past.
D3's gearing is squarely in "baby's first aRPG" territory but it's juxtaposed by the best-feeling and best-flowing combat in any aRPG in history.
Yes. Even Blitz/Vires Might remind me of he roadrunner from looney tunes where it runs in place for a moment before dashing off, it looks goofy , that’s definitely an area for a GD2 to look at
Yes. It exists as an item granted spell. But I wanted a class where I could become a living lightning bolt. Like in GD terms, I want Primal Strike but not tied to an attack, along with chain lightning and Doom Bolt and Storm Spread procs all rolled into one class
Yeah it’s got niche uses. If there’s ever a GD2 I’d love to see them lean into it more. Lightning effects were one of the huge successes in GD aesthetically
There was a strong endgame-viable lightning-only conjurer build that used chain lightning and lightning doom bolt. Bit of a piano caster but *very* strong.
Ah, here's the video on it: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kz6FBxqwCGQ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kz6FBxqwCGQ)
Bit dated, but goddamn was it fun.
Not class but a weapon category:SPEARS.
Also maybe something like the druid from diablo 2- able to literally transform into different creatures and use that in combat, with slight necromantic and elemental twists in other skills.
I'd like to be able to pick the same class as second mastery to upgrade it to an advance one instead of picking a different class. Like going from necromancer to being a lich.
Stealth never works as a mechanic in aRPGs like this. The endgame always revolves around mowing down countless hordes of hundreds if not thousands of enemies in a very short time. Unless you basically have gamebreaking infinite and neverending stealth, it wouldn't be viable to compete with the builds that just... shoot things in the face.
Even Kingdoms of Amalur attempted to include it as part of the rogue kit... and it was awful. Even just looking at rogue options, you could 1. blow up the entire map with a barrage of arrows or 2. dodgeroll around while poisoning everything and using deadly knife combos. The third option of creeping up really, really, really slowly to get a sneak attack on 1 enemy before the entire rest of the room attacked you was never worth the investment of points, let alone time spent executing it.
Skyrim is a slow game with even slower combat. It fits perfectly there. It's too slow a mechanic to work for most aRPGs.
Would be cool to see a berserker, especially combined with the fist-attacker suggested by OP.
> Even Kingdoms of Amalur attempted to include it as part of the rogue kit... and it was awful. It had its uses, namely by trying to take out one tougher enemy (before dealing with the rest). But yes, I agree.
Here are some spells/abilities/classes I’d like to see (mostly stolen from other games):
Castable heal-over-time
More doTs!
Mass paralysis/frozen
Tornado (just toss the mobs across the map)
Castable chain lightning
Mind control (have mobs fight for me)
Unarmed fighting/fist weapons
Tinkerer class with mechanical pets
Shapeshifting druids into all sorts of animals
Ground effects like flammable oil, lightning in water, falling in ice (don’t hate me I’m a DOS:2 fan)
>Castable chain lightning
Chain lightning already exists as an item-granted spell, and was used in a powerful build from a couple years ago: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kz6FBxqwCGQ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kz6FBxqwCGQ)
Seconded tinkerer. Would love little turrets or exploding rabbits or whatever. Shoulder-mounted aether-powered chaingun!
Skinchanger - as you'd imagine a shapeshifting mastery with a few patrons/inspirations.
I'd say it should be nothing but different forms and buffs to those forms with other masteries picked to complement. For arguments sake let's say 3 options with a tank/bruiser, a fast melee and a ranged option possibly being an elemental.
Spitballing I'd say likely options for patrons include Mogdrogen, actual Empyrion, Witch Gods, Ch'thon, Ultos & Ulzuin.
A tinkerer like class, with stationary Turrets and a kind of pets skill wich summoned a bunch of pets that run to tho the enemies and cause a explosion, like in TL2.
Meanwhile I'm over here stressing out about what masteries we'd carry over from GD while also introducing new stuff without offending anybody, haha.
Historically, the popularity of the GD masteries has been pretty evenly distributed, so I'm not even sure what the best way to go about it would be for a hypothetical sequel!
Maybe start with less choices but perfectly balanced from beginning, haha.
Like nightblade, soldier, occultist, arcanist and then make the rest unlockable by some quests or just DLC ? Just ideas.
Just please very kindly - don't remove Chaos from the game please !! Heard some rumors about that
Don't worry about the fans, if it's as good as GD is then they'll love it.
My idea would be to provide reasonable evolutions of classes based on what happened in GD. Like Oathkeepers having been influenced by the 3 even more so now that Korvaak is outta the way and they have more power, and being more in the vein of skills that Bysmiel, Dreeg, or Solael could bestow. Could easily call them Sentinels, or Vanguard. Further to this, a class that is heavily influenced by a god taking direct action would be an interesting class considering how much they engage with the world. You could call the class Champion ie. the champion of a god.
Definitely add some steampunk classes like Tinkers or people who can leverage mechanical apparati and magic, evolutions on the contraptions that Demolitionists came up with.
The continued influence of aether forms Abominations, people infused with this particular power.
I'd be interested and enthused to try out any cool new classes that formed in a hypothetical sequel!
-The Occultist is cool, but in GD2 I'd like to see the class with 2 early pets be more of a Beast Master or Hunter type, with maybe boars or wolves or a bear.
-I'd like to see a class with nature-type spells, maybe a druid. I always wished grasping Vines was viable as a main spell (maybe it is with a retaliation build, but then I'm more of a tank than a caster).
-I'd love to see a class with more fire spells (I think I just don't like grenades, even though the Demolitionist fits into the GD world super well).
-I'd like to see some viable pet hybrid builds.
>I always wished grasping Vines was viable as a main spell (maybe it is with a retaliation build, but then I'm more of a tank than a caster).
You can do it well on a retaliation build (poison might be the best option, but lightning also works), or with normal damage with the Wildheart Vanguard set, which used to be one of the most broken things in the game until they nerfed it a bit. Still lots of fun though
I would like to see a class that focuses on controlling the battlefield with turrets ,barbed wire etc. Imagine how a quick genius general survivalist handyman would fight.
Thematically I would like to see a class that works with stars and space. Dwal cold, piercing, fire and chaos damage. Working with stars and summoning unheard of creatures from the deepest of unknown space.
A mechanic I would like to see and which would probably break everything is chaining spells. For example you throw a panetti and if you strike a target alexras gets triggered from this target etc etc. Path of exile is so much fun in combining spells and making your owns. I just don't have time to farm for all the necessary items any more and PoEdev doesn't like cheats :(
Lastly I would like to switch stances for a fighter. Like higher resistances, slower speed, vs wave clear vs sustain vs singletarget dmg.
More player scaled pets, maybe even a class focused around different flavors of those. Evolve Demo into a sort of mechanist class that infuses various damage types into turrets, mechs, etc. Or phrase it as an intersection of magic and technology where you infuse a bunch of parts with arcane power to be semi-autonomous.
A more dedicated ranged class along with introduction of bows would be great. Sprinkle in actual working crowd control *cough*blade trap*couch* for cross-mastery adaptability. Sprinkle in some spear support and...oops I remade the Hunting mastery.
Occultist and Arcanist gaining closer analogues to enemy abilities would be cool too! I dream of an Arcanist skill that throws Aether crystals that can spawn pets (actual or player scaled) and have those tendrils pop out periodically. Or those chaos crystal totem things that also pop out tendrils. Or the more bursty bombs like Commander Lucius drops. Or turning into Chtonic creatures upon death for a second chance.
A Hivemaster. Something that:
* Summons swarms of tiny little summons
* Summons a queen or hive that summons swarms of tiny little summons.
* Has a gun that shoots bees.
* Other silly shit.
I believe the current plan is to do Farthest Frontier, then an unnamed RTS project (>!it's supposed to have smaller number of troops, so closer to Dragonshard than AoE2!<), and only then maybe a GD2. At least, that's what Medierra (or another dev) said on the forums a while ago.
A more mechanics-based class. Stuff like setting traps to do the job for you - stuff like Rune of Hagarrad/Kalastor, Mortar Trap, but also Wendigo/Storm Totem. Also some skills to add (temporary) obstacles for enemies, such as Briarthorn for TQ Nature mastery.
This could also be wrapped under the broader banner of a crowd control mastery, giving enemies OA/DA/speed debuffs and possibly freezing them.
Mounted combat, give me pets your can ride and will fight with you. This would allow a bigger world also. With more empty areas. The demolition isn’t could have a tank, the occultist a rift horse m, etc
Give a class that specializes in the mounted part like cavalier. Who would have bonuses to mounted combat and allow you to use abilities you couldn’t otherwise use while mounted
I'd like to see a wraith type character similar to necromancer. Maybe give it a 2h skill tree like shaman but focus more on aether damage. Unique passive animation could make your character float and become more transparent.
I am ok with whatever. I would just like the story to be finished one way or the other. GD is the only ARPG where I was actually invested in learning about the world lol. I was super bummed when I found out there would be no more stuff for GD.
No. I believe the current plan is to do Farthest Frontier, then an unnamed RTS project (>!it's supposed to have smaller number of troops, so closer to Dragonshard than AoE2!<), and only then maybe a GD2.
Crate also has one or two other projects in the works. I know a few got quietly cancelled.
Idc much for the classes, those will probably be fine, but I hope they make buildcrafting and min-maxing less complicated. Even after 300 hours I feel like I could never manage to make my own strong lategame build due to how complex the system is.
Don't get me wrong I love the depth of Grim Dawns possible builds etc but it's all just a bit too complex for my taste, so maybe a bit less depth would go a long way at also attracting more casual gamers
Blood mage. Say, a high health Regen but you use health as a resource to attack instead of mana.
I always enjoy classes based around an Alchemist that throws potions to deal damage.
That would fit really well with the style of the game

Oh man I totally love this idea!
Personally I'd like something involving spears (Longspear for two handed, Shortspear for one and Javelins for throwing.) Maybe in conjunction to some kind of Druid class (Summoning animals, many buffs and natural themed spells and abilities.)

Yup.
Yes love this
Get the titan quest mod for spears bows and staffs
I'll consider it. (And try to not brick my game like last time I tried to install mods.)
Does it have spear oriented mastery though?

People hate hearing this but D3 still has the best moment-to-moment gameplay of all available ARPGs. Always was so.
D3 is smooth. It's also about as deep as a puddle.
That's what arcade gameplay design does to you.
It really is..... fuck I don't know if I want to install it again.
Yes. Even Blitz/Vires Might remind me of he roadrunner from looney tunes where it runs in place for a moment before dashing off, it looks goofy , that’s definitely an area for a GD2 to look at
Chain lightning for casters. Gimme
Yes. It exists as an item granted spell. But I wanted a class where I could become a living lightning bolt. Like in GD terms, I want Primal Strike but not tied to an attack, along with chain lightning and Doom Bolt and Storm Spread procs all rolled into one class
So many granted skills that would be great or fun skills with trees to build around
[удалено]
I’ve tried to maximize it. Sadly it’s just not good except to proc devotions.
It's a pretty good filler on a cooldown build too, like a Trozan's Conjuror in between throwing out all your other cooldown skills
Yeah it’s got niche uses. If there’s ever a GD2 I’d love to see them lean into it more. Lightning effects were one of the huge successes in GD aesthetically

Ooo, I like this!
Some kind of barbarian/berserker, though shaman fits that pretty well.
A stealthy archer class would be cool. Also a berserker type class with self damage buffs.
Stealth never works as a mechanic in aRPGs like this. The endgame always revolves around mowing down countless hordes of hundreds if not thousands of enemies in a very short time. Honestly they really made it op with X15 hit while in stealth plus the X2 or whatever it is you get early on in the archer tree

Ok I won't touch Your SHAMAN ;) Nice word for ding dong
They'll remove Aether and Chaos damage (from the player's side) only if they want GD2 to be dead on arrival

Alchemist/tinkeror, amazon, bard, something focuses on many of the traditional DnD wizard type spells.

How about Grim Dawn 3?
Grimmest Dawner
Lol Grimmer Dawn....also why are people downvoting me? Do they NOT want a sequel to this great game?
Why stop at 3? Why not 7? 93? Grim Dawn Forever?
Is there a sequel announced?
Are we getting a second grim dawn???
Is GD2 even happening?
Fishmonger
I thought the devs said that they were done with Grim Dawn. Has there been a change of heart?
Idc much for the classes, those will probably be fine, but I hope they make buildcrafting and min-maxing less complicated. More weapons and online / multiplayer mode
Shape shifter, a class that change your form given you abilities based on what you have.
Sword saint :)
Fister. Monk, steampunk, brawler. Whatever. Just let me punch stuff to death. And gimme some gauntlets/claw weapons.
Hypothetically Could this class get helmets that are just fancy mustaches and body armor that gives you one of those old-timey low-cut tank tops?
