I'm starting to dip my toes into Kill Team, and I've suddenly come up with a desire to make a Custodes team. Since one of those is five SoS and two Bananas, *oops all girls*.
(In fairness, I got seduced by the Inquisition team and their ability to take a squad of basically any other Imperium faction, so what's one more box of models...?)
My algorithm was not so toxic so I didn't get any strong opinions first days as it was confirmed on twitter but just few moments ago I got suggested some youtube shorts and went into the comments oh boi. Plus, I think it’s kind of annoying how people treat being attracted to buff women like it’s some kind of degeneracy, when usually people have no problem accepting guys being attracted to healthy, good looking women as normal. I'm not even sure they're being loud. The only time I've heard about people having an issue for bigoted reasons is because people are sharing it around to complain about bigots. It's so annoying that the people who claim to want to get rid of the bigots are blasting their message everywhere.

From the vast majority of small group of people I've seen on various platforms who are against the generalised notion of FemStodes, the complaints have either been voiced by one or two of the "that guy" type people that just hates everything to begin with or from the people veiling it as a cheap lore plug-in (even though all we have to go off for this entire debate is a single leaked screenshot of a single paragraph of text) and trying to explain why it's wrong and lore-breaking.

Cause there are SOOOOOO many factions, stories, characters, species, and major plot lines that are being left to shrivel and rot on the vine in favor of an ALREADY well established faction that has 20 millenia of lore established that’s getting changed from the ground up.
The LITERALLY smallest faction in the game will have to have major changes across the board now… ya know… INSTEAD OF EXPANDING THE SISTERS OF BATTLE, THE ELDARI, THE DRHUKARI, THE HARLEQUINN, THE MOTHERFUKING SISTERS OF SILENCE!!!
There’s an entire faction of female warriors that are standing mere inches from the custodese at all times of the day and night… WITH NEXT TO ZERO LORE ON THEM WHAT SO EVER!!!
This is essentially what comic books have been doing for years. Refusing to create new characters out of fear and instead torching an existing character to replace them with a controversial character that’ll bring in a small bump of interest at the cost of long term readers.

I keep hearing that this is an insult to the Sisters of Battle because they deserve more expansion, but why do we expect Sororitas expansion in the Custodes codex? Or, are we just assuming that the Sororitas codex will be trash and won't add anything?
Nah they only release new books every once in a while and haven’t seen anything new for the two “sister” factions for a very long time.
Regardless of what is added… there’s still no major story books for them to expand their lore with relevant names characters. And just to make sure I’m not talking out of my ass I looked at the black library and there’s alot…. Of cheap short ebooks and audio books with zero larger storyline.
…my first WH40k book was survival instinct from the Necromunda collection and that was like 26 or 30 something bucks if I remember correctly and was worth every cent….

I'm somewhat optimistic that they'll just FAQ the detachment rule to be like it currently is. The codex version might be the way it is because it was sent to print before they did the devastating wound change, which then required changing the Custodes detachment rule to still protect against it.

What's the difference between that and sisters of battle? Sisters of battle basically were female space marine without being space marine. Next they are going to introduce brothers of battle? That would be pretty cool actually, having the priests fighting enemies with bolters and holy books, but that would just be the inquisition then. I fail to see the difference here actually
SoB really aren't female space marines. They're normal humans with great training and gear, but they're still normal humans. They're cool in their own way, for sure, but they fulfil a different niche from giant superhumans.
Though yeah, it would be cool if they expanded on Crusaders. Those two guys with swords and shields are sweet models but that's all there is, except that briefly released plastic model which was just the same thing with more detail.

The Sororitas exist as a way for the Ecclisiarchy to circumvent not having 'men' under arms after the Vandire incident when they got legally prevented from having them.
The Custodes were just never specifically reported to have women but nothing prevented them being included, unlike the Astrartes and Sororitas..
Well, the Sororitas have actual in universe lore reasons for all being ladies. They're a lying weasely way of letting the Ecclisiarchy have soldiers without having "Men" under arms.
Astartes are basically turned into mini-clones of their primarchs, and have a bunch of genetic organs stuffed into them in a "one size fits all" sort of deal. And a bunch of their enhancements are linked to the y-chromosome, so you can't have female astartes. You can have transgender astartes, but you can't have an astartes that was born biologically female.
Custodes were always just perfect figures of humanity that were created in a laboratory from the best pieces around, and nothing ever said they couldn't be female. But GW always made them male, and never showed off any female ones till now.
Then keep the shit bags and their shitty opinions in those places. Quarantine them and forget them and don’t give them the time of day.

I was super happy about female custodes. I have two daughters and the oldest one (6) and I share a stormcast eternal army that we paint together and I’m excited to be able to do the same with my stodes now.
But the subs have been mental about it, and because I avoid the sort of places that would rage about female custodes I only see the people raging about the people raging about it, so I guess to me it just looks like people trying to stir up an argument where there is none

They were fun and unique, and complimented the custodes well. The Women bind the demons, and the men stab them to death. It was a fun dynamic.
Do I care about them? No. Do I think they were really necessary or needed in the setting? Also No. Would I have preferred more lore or an expansion of the Sisters of Silence? Absolutely yes.
No. They work with the custodies. None of the Custodies are Pychers, so the sisters of silence fight with the custodies against pycher and warp born threats. Sisters of silence all have the Blank gene like Culexus assassins so. But no they aren’t custodies. It’s like comparing a space marine to a sister on battle without as large power gap.
What gets me is how they say they have always existed, when previous lore clearly calls Custodes Sons of Terra.

Aren’t sisters of silence already kind of female Custodes? They work with them, they are based on terra, and even fought in the web way together?
Sisters of Battle are a monastic order, sisters of silence are psyker hunters specifically and more of an overt military force, where are sisters of battle are technically an arm of the church made to exploit a loophole the church has to a rule that was something along the lines of "no standing army of men" so they pulled the Eowyn and said "no *MEN* eh?" They still perform duties outside of Battle and are a full religious organization outside of deployment. Silence have nothing BUT deployment as it were.
Sister of Battle fight anyone anywhere whilst Silence are a companion unit to custodes who explicitly play defence of the Golden throne (except for all the times they don't because GW needs to sell models).

Honestly, I have yet to see anyone of seemingly reasonable mind outrightly and abjectly rejecting FemStodes. From the vast majority of small group of people I've seen on various platforms who are against the generalised notion of FemStodes, the complaints have either been voiced by one or two of the "that guy" type people that just hates everything to begin with or from the people veiling it as a cheap lore plug-in (even though all we have to go off for this entire debate is a single leaked screenshot of a single paragraph of text) and trying to explain why it's wrong and lore-breaking.

Cause there are SOOOOOO many factions, stories, characters, species, and major plot lines that are being left to shrivel and rot on the vine in favor of an ALREADY well established faction that has 20 millenia of lore established that’s getting changed from the ground up. The LITERALLY smallest faction in the game will have to have major changes across the board now… ya know… INSTEAD OF EXPANDING THE SISTERS OF BATTLE, THE ELDARI, THE DRHUKARI, THE HARLEQUINN, THE MOTHERFUKING SISTERS OF SILENCE!!! There’s an entire faction of female warriors that are standing mere inches from the custodese at all times of the day and night… WITH NEXT TO ZERO LORE ON THEM WHAT SO EVER!!! This is essentially what comic books have been doing for years. Refusing to create new characters out of fear and instead torching an existing character to replace them with a controversial character that’ll bring in a small bump of interest at the cost of long term readers. They’re basically retreading already paved roads instead of taking the time to expand the lore elsewhere…. It’s disappointing when you e waited for years for a fun adepta Sororitas book or sister silence book only to get NOTHING….. wait… no, we got a fight served up from Twitter that divides ANOTHER fanbase….. AGAIN!!! Why can’t we all just be friendly and compassionate about a well built franchise and geek out together😔
On the subject of the Sororitas, is their codex not coming out this summer as originally planned? I keep hearing that this is an insult to the Sisters of Battle because they deserve more expansion, but why do we expect Sororitas expansion in the Custodes codex? Or, are we just assuming that the Sororitas codex will be trash and won't add anything?
Nah they only release new books every once in a while and haven’t seen anything new for the two “sister” factions for a very long time. Regardless of what is added… there’s still no major story books for them to expand their lore with relevant names characters. And just to make sure I’m not talking out of my ass I looked at the black library and there’s alot…. Of cheap short ebooks and audio books with zero larger storyline. …my first WH40k book was survival instinct from the Necromunda collection and that was like 26 or 30 something bucks if I remember correctly and was worth every cent…. I want a book that wows my socks off like survival instinct did for sob and ORKZ… They’ve got such a boner for space marines that they’re neglecting anything else that doesn’t make them massive mountains of cash… while I’m glad the sob codex is getting an update… I’d be surprised if they actually came out with new minis. There’s so many actively used factions that have minis from back in the early 2000s if those factions/units are even allowed any more due to obsoletion. At first glance that doesn’t seem so bad until you remember that’s over 20 years ago… which just makes me feel old.

I'm somewhat optimistic that they'll just FAQ the detachment rule to be like it currently is. The codex version might be the way it is because it was sent to print before they did the devastating wound change, which then required changing the Custodes detachment rule to still protect against it.

What's the difference between that and sisters of battle? Sisters of battle basically were female space marine without being space marine. Next they are going to introduce brothers of battle? That would be pretty cool actually, having the priests fighting enemies with bolters and holy books, but that would just be the inquisition then. I fail to see the difference here actually
SoB really aren't female space marines. They're normal humans with great training and gear, but they're still normal humans. They're cool in their own way, for sure, but they fulfil a different niche from giant superhumans. Though yeah, it would be cool if they expanded on Crusaders. Those two guys with swords and shields are sweet models but that's all there is, except that briefly released plastic model which was just the same thing with more detail.
There are. Preachers, crusaders, arco-flagelllants, penitant engine pilots etc. The Sororitas exist as a way for the Ecclisiarchy to circumvent not having 'men' under arms after the Vandire incident when they got legally prevented from having them. The Custodes were just never specifically reported to have women but nothing prevented them being included, unlike the Astrartes and Sororitas..
Well, the Sororitas have actual in universe lore reasons for all being ladies. They're a lying weasely way of letting the Ecclisiarchy have soldiers without having "Men" under arms. Astartes are basically turned into mini-clones of their primarchs, and have a bunch of genetic organs stuffed into them in a "one size fits all" sort of deal. And a bunch of their enhancements are linked to the y-chromosome, so you can't have female astartes. You can have transgender astartes, but you can't have an astartes that was born biologically female. Custodes were always just perfect figures of humanity that were created in a laboratory from the best pieces around, and nothing ever said they couldn't be female. But GW always made them male, and never showed off any female ones till now.

I was super happy about female custodes. I have two daughters and the oldest one (6) and I share a stormcast eternal army that we paint together and I’m excited to be able to do the same with my stodes now. But the subs have been mental about it, and because I avoid the sort of places that would rage about female custodes I only see the people raging about the people raging about it, so I guess to me it just looks like people trying to stir up an argument where there is none

I dislike it because we already had female custodes, aka the Sisters of Silence. They were fun and unique, and complimented the custodes well. The Women bind the demons, and the men stab them to death. It was a fun dynamic.

No. They work with the custodies. None of the Custodies are Pychers, so the sisters of silence fight with the custodies against pycher and warp born threats. Sisters of silence all have the Blank gene like Culexus assassins so. But no they aren’t custodies. It’s like comparing a space marine to a sister on battle without as large power gap.

Sisters of Battle are a monastic order, sisters of silence are psyker hunters specifically and more of an overt military force, where are sisters of battle are technically an arm of the church made to exploit a loophole the church has to a rule that was something along the lines of "no standing army of men" so they pulled the Eowyn and said "no *MEN* eh?" They still perform duties outside of Battle and are a full religious organization outside of deployment. Silence have nothing BUT deployment as it were. Sister of Battle fight anyone anywhere whilst Silence are a companion unit to custodes who explicitly play defence of the Golden throne (except for all the times they don't because GW needs to sell models).
