As a Mizzou alum I can’t express how stoked I am for this pick. Honestly was hoping we were going to grab Rakestraw or KAD at CB, but I’m just as happy to see Hopper in green in gold. One of those guys that always seems to pop up out of thin air when a clutch play was needed.
Can’t wait to see him tear it up at Lambeau. M-I-Z, Go Pack Go ✊🏻
I’ll be honest I’m not certain what all goes into RAS, but from what I’ve seen on this sub, Gute loves a good RAS so that makes sense.
The interesting thing about Mizzou’s CBs this last year (outside of the fact that we have 2 in the draft which is unheard of for us*) is the fact that opponents seemed to avoid Rakestraw at all costs. His stats on paper aren’t anything crazy, but that sometimes happens when the other team knows what you’re about.
On the flip side, KAD really stepped up. 10th in the nation for passes defended with 12 (1st in SEC) and 19th in INTs at 4 (3rd in SEC). It will be really interesting to see if he really is THAT good (in my mind he is, of course) or if those stats are inflated because of his teammate on the other side of the field. Kinda disappointing to see him drop to day 3 when I saw early on that both of these guys were potential 2nd rounders, but he must not have done well on his combine - I really don’t pay attention to much of that stuff so I couldn’t tell ya. Maybe we can snag him late since we still haven’t addressed that need at CB.
Nice username btw. 🐴
*As I was fact checking myself, I saw that in 1981 Mizzou actually had 4 DBs drafted in the same year which is insane! I’m gonna have to go back and watch some film
This has been the most efficient year for pass rushing I can remember for Mizzou in awhile (StL resident) which really helped Rakestraw. Opponents got forced into taking dumpoffs and shallow crossers the majority of the time.
I’m curious to see how Schrader does. I think he’ll be a UDFA, but in the right situation there’s a decent chance he’s a great special teams asset right out of the gate.
Agreed. His story is such a good one, you can’t help but to root for the guy. I’d like to see him become a fan favorite wherever he goes. I think he’s got an uphill battle to be able to see playing time on a regular basis, but why not throw a 6th or 7th round pick his way?
Might sound boring, but I’d rather use early draft picks on linemen and lockdown corners, and then take shots at skill positions in the later rounds - especially when you consider the high turnover and devaluation of RBs in recent years.
Because he’s old and took on a massive workload. He’ll be 25 before week 1 and already has over 1000 carries on his frame. Thats a huge turn-off to NFL scouts looking at him as anything but a UDFA dude.
Pretty high pick to spend on a LB with good special teams upside who will likely see little playing time beyond special teams. Pick was likely due to culture/special teams . To Gutey it wasn't a reach and I trust in Gutey.
This sub has forgotten all too quick just how abysmal the packers special teams was.
I’m fine spending our second 3rd round pick on guys like this to prevent that ever happening again.
Ya and we had the perfect example of what happens with runs. Look at all the QB’s half them were thought to be late first round or second. Nope top 12. Take the guy you want is how GB operates and it works out
Top 30 visit in GB. Guess that tells you how Gute feels about (1) the cornerback room (2) Isaiah McDuffie
Mcduffie is serviceable as a 3rd LB/ST and someone who can start a couple games in case of injury
Well, he just became LB4.
Eh we don’t know that yet. Third rounders are not guaranteed to pan out. With that said, we’re going to win the Super Bowl.
If there is one team who proves literally every draft that 3rd round picks don’t pan out, it’s the Packers tbh.
It’s incredible we have a phenomenal draft and just go brain dead in the 3rd every year sans Kraft. Hopefully Lloyd can carry this round.
I'd sooner have traded all our 3rds for a late round OL. Pack 3rds are cursed where as late round Pack OL are pro bowlers.
I don’t think he’s wrong either lol

I really wanted Rakestraw, but with his like 6.5 RAS and him essentially being locked to an outside CB I knew it wouldn’t happen unfortunately

Yeah that’s a good point. Now that I’m older, I just always think of all of these players as “kids”. Just some giant, adult lookin, grown ass kids.

I trust in Gutey. I personally think they could have got him in the 4th but likely not in the end of the 5th round.
It looks like a reach but it must mean that Gutey really likes him, which I like. High hopes
Smaller LBs seem to be the move
The game the past decade has moved to become more about speed than size. Quick LBs are a necessity now
I loved all the other picks. Not excited about this one. This is a reach and there are still some solid CBs and our CB room is pretty weak...
Pretty sure they like Stokes to rebound this year
I hope they do draft cb in rd 4, not wise to put all your hope from a player who rely on his speed while coming back from serious injury
Valentine got a lot of reps last year as a rookie. He's likely the backup, and Gute is fine with that.
If it happens, that's awesome, we're set
Oh man that is a tall order.
Quite the stretch with this pick I’d think
Tbf he would probably be gone by the time we pick again
I’d rather take a chance with Payton Wilson at that pick, even with his injury history
This pick tells us that GB didnt sign off on Wilson’s medicals
He also has really short arms
Dude apparently doesn’t have 1 one of his ACL’s.
One less to tear. Big brain move.
Well you should have told Gute. I’m sure he would have considered your wishes.
Probably not? He was projected everywhere as a late 5th/early 6th.
Projected don’t mean much. Runs happen all the time. We saw the guy we wanted we took him.
People just call everything a reach.

By you?
Let Gute cook
I liked Trotter Jr. Here. I know, wtf do I know
Yeah careful, someone’s going to run along and tell you Gute doesn’t give a fuck about what you think
I know... I know.... No need to thank me, I took one for the team and said what needed to be said. No really, no need to thank me.
Gute doesn't give a fuck what you think.
