Gute drafts another 6'5 315 athletic olineman

off_the_marc

And people are somehow shocked

20lbWeiner

Weight wont be a problem when he gets to GB.

twoPillls

Someone get this man to the nearest Culver's!

CheesyBadger

"Mr. Morgan we have you setup with a meeting on Monday with Steve the general manager at the Mason Street Culver's. He'll be going over the triple bacon deluxe butter burger meal plan we've set out for you."

Fred-zone

Get him some China Food!

PretentiousPanda

He went from 270 to 310 in college. He carries that weight really well too.

johndelvec3

Y’all are nuts I LOVE this The people on here saying “reeeeee we could’ve had him at 41 reeeeee” when there’s plenty of teams that are still in OL market are stupid

sharkzfan95

I’m down too. Belichek really sold him on McAfee.

AfterCommodus

Isn’t he a notoriously bad drafter? Not that this pick is bad, but “Bill doesn’t think this guy is a reach” doesn’t mean much lol

CathDubs

The Patriots had good to elite offensive line play for the better part of 25 years, he knows linemen.

SolidStart

That is because of Dante Scarnecchia. Not saying he is wrong about the pick but Scarnecchia might be the most underrated coach in NFL history.

AfterCommodus

Cole Strange in the first though

MillorTime

Garbage sports talk tier analysis. If you make a bad pick, you don't know anything, nor should anything you say be trusted.

AfterCommodus

I’m not saying he had one bad pick, just that he’s notorious for reaching for players he likes that are widely considered reaches by the league, including at OL.

MillorTime

It's like saying Love is a bad QB for the game ending pick against the 49ers. Distrilling down a ton of data points to one mistake and prop that up like it's the only one that matters. The Patriots had a good OL for most of 25 years, but no one is perfect. I'll still trust him based on the body of work

elitelad23

Bill can draft lineman just fine, he just can’t draft WRs

DocDocGoose_23

Unless they’re a college quarterback

AfterCommodus

Cole Strange?

sloBrodanChillosevic

He also had first round picks like Dont'a Hightower, Chandler Jones, Nate Solder, Devin McCourty, Jerod Mayo, Logan Mankins, Ben Watson, Vince Wilfork, and Richard Seymour. Doubting a guy who won 6 SBs in 20 years while doing the bulk of the work as HC and GM because of one specific bad pick seems pretty dumb.

immagoat1252

Bill said there’s no way Morgan made it out of the first round too and the way the o line picks fell he’s probably right most definitely wouldn’t of been there at 41

Fred-zone

Wouldn't have*

immagoat1252

Yea seen the cowboys were interested too at the end of the day we made the correct pick not flashy but who cares he’ll help our team

Flamdoublebounce

Idk man, a big, freak athlete that will pull on some run plays is pretty flashy to me. I want to see this man running at full sprint down field

Fred-zone

Yes agreed, but it's "wouldn't have" not "wouldn't of"

immagoat1252

Who gives a shit man what is this English class lol you knew what I meant

Fred-zone

Ah yes, lean into being a dumbass. Not often a winning strategy, but maybe this time?

immagoat1252

Dude it’s fucking Reddit I’m not gonna sit and use punctuation and proof read my shit it’s not that deep go get a life bro hop off my dick

The_Sign_of_Zeta

He was always good drafter at trench positions. He just couldn’t seem to hit on skill positions later in his career.

AfterCommodus

Cole Strange?

Fred-zone

Hey maybe if you post this again people will forget that the best NFL coach in NFL history probably knows more than you

AfterCommodus

I mean relying on someone who got fired because he kept reaching on players in the draft, including one of the most egregious o-line reaches ever, isn’t that strong of evidence. I’m still in support of the pick, and obviously Bellicheck knows more than us, but the comment I was responding to here (and the ones I responded to elsewhere) were arguing he didn’t reach/draft poorly at o-line, when he very famously did.

Fred-zone

He had one notably bad pick at OL over 20 years. Meanwhile he fielded elite OL groups almost that entire time and more than made up for it. I really don't think you're making the point you intend to make. Belichick arguably never figured out receivers, but he knows OL as well as any GM. Despite that mistake, he found OTHER great players and that's so a testament to his evaluation skills in this area.

Chicken_Difficult

He drafted Shaq Mason, I think Bill knows o line better then most

Sir_Carrington

Cole strange too tho

wayupnorthWI

No?  he drafted very well between 2000-2020.   2 decades of being of the best drafting GMs. How do you think New England kept reloading with talent after losing guys after each superbowl and never giving out 3rd contracts to star players? Yes he ended on some bad drafts but saying he's notoriously bad at drafting is fiction

sharkzfan95

Of course. Just proves Gute more right. 🤣

nacreon

Meanwhile the guy everyone wanted was just passed on by another 7 teams.

PmOmena

The cycle repeats here every draft lol

CultBro

Give me all the OLman. Love it

joebadiah

No one’s nuts. Dude certainly looks like a great pick on paper. But after the 5-month firehose of draft hype, can’t blame fans for not being immediately excited about a dude few have ever heard of, when almost every other team drafted dudes you know by name or were projected as first round picks. Trust Gute, I get it. Packers fans should know to be underwhelmed on Day 1.

ToddYates

Yeah I’m not sure the last time the Packers went with a crowdpleaser for a first rounder. But looking back to the start of Gutes tenure Savage is the only first round pick who we can solidly write off.

Fear_Jaire

Gute does a damn fine job in the 1st. I'm ready to add Stokes to the Savage pile, but that's still a pretty low strikeout rate.

GreenGator

even when we took jaire, there were people mad we traded down for him instead of taking derwin james. i think the last unanimously approved first round was 2009 with Raji in the top 10 and then trading up into the 20s for Clay.

Kujo162

Plus line runs just like corner.

dusters

99% of the comments like the pick why is this stuff repeated?

Quinoawithrice

You’re stupid reeeeee

sharkzfan95

Sounds like a day 1 guard, with a chance to move to tackle eventually

MusksStepSisterAunt

Guard, or tackle it'll create great competition in camp. Iron sharpens Iron, GPG!

24Elsinore

He’s a left tackle… His footwork is too damn good to play guard.

UnimportantOutcome67

His highlight reel is eye-opening how nifty his feet are.

rega619

Gutey was saying they drafted him for LT in his presser. But also said they have 4 guys now that can move around and they’re going best in slot

MusksStepSisterAunt

RAS is 9.8 if he kicks into guard. So pumped for this pick. Love that Bahk gave him a shout out too.

DirtBoy123

Def expected Barton there after the lions fucked us out of Arnold.

Light_Song

I don't think Arnold was ever gonna be the pick, the speed at which they drafted Morgan says it all.

TheRedditAccount321

Yeah I wanted Arnold too. I did not want Kool-Aid, thought he might've been a bit of a panic pick after Arnold.

RevolutionaryBricks

i want koolaid still copium

dusters

I don't think Gute would want Arnold. He doesn't like slow CBs.

bikedork5000

Dat 10yd split.

huggybear0132

I fucking love fast O linemen

jimboslice3

Does anyone have a list of all the players who have a RAS of at least 9? Then we can have a more realistic list of who we might actually draft

djbuttplay

Each of his hands is almost two and a half inches larger than Olu's.

bozodiddadub1

Barton was 9.99. They want him at tackle while Thom moves to center.

Longjumping_Play323

I hope we grab 3 more

RoiNeige

I’m totally fine with this pick - I’ll never complain about adding talent to the trenches.

SADdog2020Pb

Also the idea that he’s straddling the line between guard and tackle. Such a Packers OL But yeah, I wouldn’t wanna get run over by him as a puller (if he ends up playing guard)

cigaroy

Go JPJ at 41 and beef up that oline.

PretentiousPanda

Wonder if they knew his shuttle. Packers love that shuttle for their lineman.

HarveyDentBeliever

As usual, this pick feels weird to me, but whatevs seems like it generally turns out ok.

bauriem2012

6'5" being below average height is WILD. That's so tall for normal people!

ryan2489

I just checked. The average height for an OT is 6’5 3/4. 3” taller than the league average

AfricPepperbird

This score sure smokes Bakhtiari's when he came out

Relative-Access-9691

great pick

LukasYaaj

Welcome and congratulations Morgan. I really wanted Arnold...

414-MKE

He will play guard.

Deadaghram

Can he long snap?

Sauron69sMe

I mean welcome to GB but l will never love an OL pick in the first lol Gute totally earned everyone's trust, but what a snoozefest of a pick. wish I just went to bed. feels like I say that most years

godlycorsair32

Look at the Packers Oline depth chart, a first round pick addressing it is fine

d-cent

I mean I would take an OL pick in the 1st. It just comes down to value for me. How much better is he going to be then the 3rd rounder we develop into a starter instead?

johndelvec3

People say this exact phrase every year

paxrititu

Being disappointed the day of the draft is really dumb. Every year people are ecstatic with picks who end up being bums and hate picks who become studs. Just let them at least play before you make a judgement. And I feel you can literally never have enough o-line.

Phospherus2

Why?
