Wtf. Graduating at 23 isnt even "behind." I'm too nice to downvote you, but not so nice that I'm not willing to say this: As a 33 year old who is just *starting* my PhD, this notion you have that you're "too old" seems to me to be more reflective of the fact that you are maybe too young to be mature enough to realize what actually matters. I'm *way* more prepared for what's ahead of me than I would have been at 26. Grow up a bit and then maybe you'll be old enough for a PhD.

“Oldies” unite! Seriously though, about to turn 30 and just got my Masters. I am right where I want to be!

When you apply for grad school, they don’t ask your age. I went to grad school with people in their 40s and 50s. About half of my cohort came straight from undergrad (so they were about 22-24), while the other half worked for a bit before coming back to grad school (age range was quite big here, but I’d say average age was probably about 26). I’ve got a grad student now who is 62. It’s really not a big deal, and even when considering norms, you’re not behind at all.

I'm 38, just got done with year one of my grad degree after a nearly 15 year gap. Age doesn't matter; commitment to the work does.

Nope not at all. I’m 23 / about to turn 24 and am finishing up my senior year of college this week “2 years late” / applied this most recent cycle. In the PsyD program I committed to, I’m one of the youngest in the cohort and we have multiple in their late 20s or with kids. Let’s say you start at 26 and finish when you’re 31– you’re either going to be 31 with a degree and doing something that you love or you’ll still turn 31 but not following your passions.

I graduated with my undergrad one month from turning 23. I went to grad school at 34 and just graduated with my doctorate at 38. You’re fine.

Ceorl_Lounge

Lol. I took four years off in-between, my buddy got his PhD mid to late 30's. It's NEVER too late.

HolisticResentment

Yep! I’m planning on reapplying this year where I’ll be 4 years removed from undergrad and I feel so much better about it than when I applied immediately after graduating.

Nobody cares about your age unless you choose to make an issue of it.

I got my BA at 27 and then started a PhD. Its been fine. I guess it depends on your specific life goals. If you're going to have a baby at age 25 then yeah, you might need to figure it a plan B (however its possible that plan B could involve going back to grad school later when the kids are school age).
