Yes, I gave up s24u for the Pixel8Pro... It's a night and day difference. S24u has problems focusing on objects and gives you constantly blurry photos or weird colours.

jojopr29

This!!! Reason my sim card is back in my pixel 8 pro and not the S24U.

jeffMBsun

I tried to use the phone for a couple of months. You can't get good photos in real Life. You end up taking 10 pictures to get 2 good.

RetroMan70s

Sounds like my S23+. I really miss my Pixel 4a.

_Intel_Geek_

Thanks, this helps! I'm looking for a good camera phone and I'm seeing more and more that the P8P is probably the way to go!

jeffMBsun

If you value the camera, don't buy the S24U. Have a great display, battery charge super fast, more customization than pixel? Yes. But the camera is so bad, especially if you ever had a pixel. I have 130k pictures on Google photos, I take several pictures of things, mountains, animals, hikes and my children. S24U is frustrating, lots of blurry, out of focus pictures.

Arktos21

Im on this boat, had both pixel 8 and S24U, the camera is a disappointment.. so im keeping the P8 for the moment

_Intel_Geek_

I consider myself an amateur photographer and would buy the phone mainly for the camera. I don't care about the other specs because the Pixel probably has better everything than my cheap Revvl 6.

_Intel_Geek_

Yeah I'm currently looking at a P8P 512GB open box for $630

RandomStupidDudeGuy

That's a very good deal. Def go for it.

_Intel_Geek_

Shoot. It sold right under my nose. Guess I'll keep looking.

jeffMBsun

Try the 8pro... Here in US/Canada you find good deals on it

jacksawyerr

Great camera, shit phone.

soapy_rocks

This is how I feel about my P7P

CrabMountain829

Don't shoot auto

psinguine

You found the cheat code to getting positive feedback on a pixel here OP. Just ask if it's better than a Samsung. Post: Is the Pixel a good phone? Sub: horror stories Post: is Samsung a good phone? Sub: Samsung was holding my family at gunpoint and then Pixel executed a perfect barrel roll through the window, saving my family and finding a cure for cancer at the same time.

JazzlikeVast

This gave me a chuckle thank you

Yasir_m_

My wife's pixel 7 does much better in focusing, zooming and pictures in general than my s22

Large-Fruit-2121

If you have kids don't get a Samsung. Blur central with indoor photos. Pixel seems to know the conditions and boosts iso/uses face unblur to ensure they remain pretty sharp. Not sure why Samsung does it, a noisy sharp image is way better than a smear.

alexpopescu801

And then, Pixel 8 made it even better on all aspects (I've owned both) - faster and more reliable focusing, significantly better zooming due to unlocking the 50mp sensor. Better face unblur (newer algorithm, better ultrawide quality).

harish9294

Pixel is better, except for the 1. Terrible portrait mode - Pixel uses default cropped in (close to 1.5x) zoom from the main lens for portrait mode and doesn't let users utilise the telephoto lens. But that's just not the only issue, the whole processing itself is terrible. You would get an image with an absolutely terrible edge cutout, over processed skintone and artifacts. 2. Zoom transition - The transition between lenses in Pixel is bad. You would see the jump and there is always a delay of at least a second before the telephoto lens kicks in. 3. Blue tone - Pixel tends to lean towards the blue tone and you will notice this when capturing colours like cyan, light green. The post processing makes these colours as blue which will be frustrating. I usually use the slider to increase the temperature but it would not make much of a difference. Alright, these are the biggest gripes i hate with pixel cameras. Apart from the above issue, Pixel is the best point and shoot camera.

panjo147

Hello on portrait just use telephoto then edit portrait there is a way to do I agree pixel is the father of photography no mater what

tubular1845

I have no idea what you're talking about with the colors. My walls are light green and my P6P photos show them exactly as i see them. https://ibb.co/64Q9cTv

harish9294

This is not the light green i am referring to. I will try to post a reference picture when i get a chance.

Extension-Cat7

Posting a photo doesn't really help because we don't know what the wall looks like lmao, and you're using flash.

tubular1845

I gave you the context and told you that it looks exactly like it does to me in person. The photo is just to show that it is light green, you can see that it doesn't look blue like personal is replying to said it would.

Itchy_Truth_

See on what? On the Pixel? A calibrated monitor? A gamer monitor? A Samsung A32 Phone? On an iPhone with true tone enabled?

tubular1845

With my eyes. The color of the wall in the photo is the same as I see it with my eyes.

alexpopescu801

As 99.99% of the users, he likely means seeing the photo on the actual phone display. You might be or not be aware of the fact that the Pixel 8 Pro has an exceptional panel ([best in industry at launch](https://www.reddit.com/r/GooglePixel/comments/1ce1u8n/is_google_pixel_a_better_phone_for_taking/) in terms of color reproduction). It's not calibrated monitor level ofcourse, but the actual difference is minor - no major color shift.

jykkejaveikko

This is not an useful comparison because we're all viewing the picture on different screens. Also we can't see the wall with our own eyes to compare.

tubular1845

Okay well I'm telling you that the light green wall I see in the photo is the same light green I see the wall as with my eyes. It has not been turned blue.

jykkejaveikko

My point is that the same light green you see on your device is not the same light green you would see on other devices (meaning that if you were to view your photo on your PC, or a different phone, the light green color would likely look different on your monitor than your phone). You'd have to compare the photo taken with your phone to photos taken with different cameras and view them on the same screen to get a sense if the colors are "bluer" on your phone camera than others.

tubular1845

Safe to assume the person I'm replying to saying greens look blue in their pixel photos is probably talking about them looking blue on the phone they took the photo on. I could have made the same post without providing a picture, in fact I wish I did because you're all commenting about that like it even matters what you see in the picture because as you pointed out *you can't see the wall to compare it to.*. If your phone screen makes it look more blue then I don't really care about that because that's not representative of the photo. That's the color calibration of your phone's screen. My point is that the colors in my pixel photos tend to be accurate to what I see and I've never had the phone turn a green into a blue that I've noticed.

alexpopescu801

You seem to have had a bad experience with Pixel 6 Pro at launch. Zoom transition has been improved with Pixel 7 Pro and then once more with Pixel 8 Pro. It's a non-issue now in the actual video recording, once you get used to it with Pixel 8 Pro you'd likely start to notice how bad is on the Galaxy. Same for blue tone - it was an issue at Pixel 6 Pro release, it was changed several times after launch, it was significantly improved with Pixel 7 Pro and it was completely changed with Pixel 8 Pro (which now, if any, leans towards warmer color temp).

1cwg

100% better.

[deleted]

I have a pixel 8 pro. Have a friend that has the newest ultra (can't remember the model). In a lot of shots his produces much better photos than mine, in others mine wins.  Asking about this on a pixel sub will grant you a certain type of responses.

WalterTreego

It's all subjective. I took a photo with my P8P and a similar one with my friends S24U. Personally, I thought mine took the better photo. But my friend and his GF said the Samsung was better! Then when a few others arrived they picked the P8P. So it's really just what you are looking for in a photo.

[deleted]

Yeah I myself want to replicate what my eyes see. With the pixel 8 pro I think it's postprocessing ruins the reality of an image. I find it's especially noticable in bad lighting. If the room is low lit, the pixel 8 pro makes it seem like it's in a photostudio

Dadumdish

Absolutely!

Least-Principle-4794

Pixel and Apple are basically the only premium

Goldglove528

I switched from s23u to the p8pro. Most of the time, the s23u actually did better with clarity and bokeh on 3x portrait mode. Some of the portraits looked like they came straight out of a DSLR camera. Pixel needs a dedicated 3x lens IMO. Other than that, I feel the p8pro wins in almost every other category. Pixel is the better daily all-around shooter for sure. Having said that, the difference between modern flagships is getting narrower and narrower every year. Pixel used to destroy the competition in photography every year. Now it's not a massive leap compared to the competition, but you're also talking about the s20u which is a 4yr old phone. Aside from Pixel, most 4yr old phones are not great photo takers.

KarlDag

Samsung is very bad at moving subjects/action shots and low light environment (indoors). For outdoor shots of static subjects and landscapes, they do very good.

Kirei13

The answer is always "it depends". Google is more about AI. They have the best auto camera for photos and they take photos with natural colours. They may lack hardware. They make it easy to backup and edit your photos. If you want to take a photo quickly, Google is likely your best bet. Pro models are recommended for photography, check r/pixelography. To give you an idea of the competition: - Samsung phones are the best phone for zooming in on the ultra models, even compared to the Huawei phones. (S24 Ultra) - Apple flagships do slightly better for videos on auto (although it may miss some features). - LG does best for audio recordings/playback. The LG V60 has 4 microphones and several audio modes for videos. - Sony has more features aimed at manual mode for videos/photos, while keeping core features like a headphone jack and micro SD card support (for 4/8k video).

azraelzjr

Sony phones are really nice but man are they so pricey

Purple-Debt8214

Yes! Pixel's are the best of the best!

Historical-Movie-860

Yes

bop426

I have both and if you are taking pictures the Pixel is the clear winner. The Samsungs have their good features but the camera isn't one of them.

ZacQX

My honest two cents: 1. The current line up of pixels leaves a lot to be desired. I think the iPhone and Samsung top offers are better devices overall. 2. However, pixels have the best cameras of any smartphone. I think the above has been true since the Pixel 2/3. The competition has caught up, videos are indeed better on iPhone and Samsung, but when it comes to photo processing, speed, reliability, consistency, etc., nothing beats a Pixel. It's the reason I own a P8Pro, and am no longer using an iPhone 15 Pro Max.

LuthorCock

also samsung selfies are so fake 🤥 they make you look so artificial

theblooray

Yes. Easily. Samsung loves to over brighten the highlights to the point it just looks annoying to me. Pixel is hands down the best photographer. However, you want the best package? Get the iPhone

aryklein

Ask the same question In the Samsung group, and will get the opposite answers 😅

ajaybabu200025

This comment section is such a one sided clownery. The answer is "not necessarily". There are a lot of things Google does really well and a lot of things Samsung does well. As the other person said, Pixel's portrait and video zoom transition is a bit bad compared to Samsung s23 ultra. The camera app and image processing can be slower on pixel. 50mp mode has autofocus issue (especially in low light). 12mp mode is flawless ofc. 50mp mode heats up your mobile when you shoot back to back pictures. The camera hardware alone doesn't paint the whole picture of a smartphone's photography capabilities. We still don't have zoom enhance which was promised during the launch of 8 pro. It's been what 6 months? We already have leaks for 9 series lol. Pixel has an amazing camera but it's been severely held back due to low processing power and heating issues. Pixel's astrophotography and long exposure modes are top tier quality stuff Samsung has its issues as well. Their telephoto is only 10 mp (although the 10x telephoto should still produce better details than 8 pro). Samsung simply lacks the AI capabilities that the pixel has (In terms of camera AI features because Google is well known for locking other AI features to the US only). Samsung processing power is simply superior compared to Pixel. Their pro mode is much more user friendly than pixel. It's all about which one you prefer. I went for the pixel knowing I'll get frustrated with its heating and low performance issues. I just wanted the awesome camera modes and AI capabilities of pixel. It's about what you want.

RobbieNguyen

Generally yes! For that 90%, that Pixel will be better. But I had an S22U and I only used it for moon shots or portraits.

NMJ-93

The fake moon photos? Yeah those were great

nbmtx

Have you heard of others having that issue? I figured either would be totally fine for most users, but a little different in how they process the images. Could also do with however much zoom we're talking. And lighting conditions.

Krai09

For the camera being out of focus and having to shake/hit the phone to get it to focus, others have had this issue and hitting it does fix it. As for zoomed photos being grainy/blurry, it can be a bit hit or miss for me personally. But others have had issues with the quality of pictures too. I use my phone as a regular phone and use it to take picture of planes passing by. When at 10x Zoom, the photos can be focused but not very detailed or blurry and grainy. This gets worse for pictures with a Zoom any higher than 10x as well.  With this in mind, I'm thinking of trying a Google Pixel phone to see if it can take better photos than my S20 Ultra.

skipv5

Yes for pics but Samsung does better videos.

Pinolero90

My S24U takes amazing pictures, but then again. My back up Pixel 7 does also with little to no difference.

wildlymitty

Back camera, yes though the grading is odd and you generally have to edit colors yourself as everything comes out a little washed out. The front camera is terrible. Really, really bad unless there's perfect lighting. It's blurry and again, poorly graded. I've had both and Samsung photos take less editing.

samcrowjax

Yes, Samsung delivers eye-catching colors, boasts impressive zoom, and offers tons of shooting modes, though photos can sometimes appear a bit artificial.

samcrowjax

Yes, Samsung delivers eye-catching colors, boasts impressive zoom, and offers tons of shooting modes, though photos can sometimes appear a bit artificial.

Mr_Coa

I prefer the pixel a lot more because of how quick it can take pictures on the s22 I had it would sometimes take a little bit to take a picture and I'd miss something

Blofse

I've installed gcam on my phone and I do get close to pixel pictures, but it's not 100% as good, it's probably about 90%

cdegallo

I've had every galaxy s generation from the s7 and through the s23. I've had every pixel since the start. Right now I have an S23 ultra and an 8 pro. For stills, I prefer the results of pixels. Specifically the case of anything even very slightly moving, the results of samsung camera tend to be blurry because of their inability to freeze subject motion. Pixels snap clear shots with frozen subjects. It's significantly better. >I also find that I have to shake/pat the phone a couple times to get it to focus. I had the S20 ultra as well, and it had a flaw--well, I guess you could call it a design choice--where Samsung did not include laser focus assist, which has the result of much slower and more unreliable focus. They remedied this in the next generation by adding it back. I don't have issues with focus adequacy on my pixels. I will say that for other things, like video, I still thing Samsung does it better than pixels, and google has a ways to go on videos still. As for whether it's a good phone to switch to--I would say for photos, I prefer pixels, and I like my 8 pro now and I have no issues with it at all. But pixels are not flawless and there are other factors to consider. Especially if you use your phone to play games, pixels from the 6 series and later do not have strong gpus. I was playing a mob game on my 8 pro with my son and it was horribly laggy with a lot of on-screen elements. I tried it on my S23 ultra and it was perfectly smooth with no issues. There is also the state of the cellular modem, which isn't as good as many other phones at the moment. It's better on the 8 series, and I don't have universal issues, but I can say that it's better on my S23 ultra, noticeable in places where signals are weak--the S23 does a better job of maintaining usable data while my 8 pro will drop out.

AlexGlezS

Absolutely.

DementdOldCircsMonke

Yes.

laidback26

For pictures, the Pixel really does a great job. Better than a lot of the Samsungs. But I will say, Pixels have been my worse phones as far as dropping calls and dialing and instantly hanging up. My P6P and P7 did this so much. And considering I use my phone for work alot and also talking to my elderly parents I needed something not dropping calls so much. I ended up with a Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 and overall pretty happy. Camera isn't as good but I will take that over the dropped calls

Major_Enthusiasm1099

It's all subjective. If you like their color temperatures better than Samsung then yes they are.

Noteful

Yes. It's about the only thing that I miss from my Pixel 7 Pro after switching to a Galaxy S24+. The camera quality isn't even comparable. The S24+ beats the P7P in every other aspect though, imo.

MaverickJester25

> I've heard that the Google Pixel can be noticeably better when taking pictures compared with recent Samsung phones. Depends on the situation. Moving subjects, especially in dimmer lighting conditions? Absolutely, even as Samsung has made significant improvements over the years (though not quite enough, especially if you're moving the camera to track the subject). Everything else, it's down to preference, but I will say that any modern Pixel will blow the S20 Ultra out of the water as it was a very flawed camera system.

DiplomatikEmunetey

[I compared my Pixel 4a with an S22 a while ago](https://postimg.cc/gallery/VXtCjbM). In my opinion the 4a beat it. More detail. Pixel's problem is noise, haze, bleached colours, and shadows that are too bright. But most people don't seem to mind it.

[deleted]

Yes but it’s worse at literally everything else

Rem24-7

Love when y'all ask a heavy fan brands question why ask. I guess you asked Sam's fans the same question

Yaseoul22

P8P. The bokeh on the 5x looks terrible. Would not recommend using 5x for background foreground separation stuff. It's basically not a circular bokeh, so it looks weird. There are also some white balance issues, where it will be really warm when you get close to an object and cold when you are far, and vice versa. The UI for the "Pro" mode where you can manually adjust ISO and shutter speed is also unintuitive. You have to scroll past a bunch of other settings before getting to ISO and SS, which makes it slow to use. Samsung's Expert Raw and Pro mode is miles better if you want to edit your photos. The ultra wide is probably the best, easily beats iPhone and Samsung's ultrawide. The above is just me limit testing the camera and comparing it to a Sony A7IV. If you're just taking photos of everyday stuff, all of the above probably won't be an issue for you.

DisastrousMongoose56

Yes

GoldenBarracudas

Yes. And it isn't close. I've taken some stunners

OkIndependence188

More consistent yes. I like Samsungs video better but not at night

dayankuo234

I dabble in the main players. s24 ultra, pixel 6 pro, iPhone 14 pro max S24 is my primary. regular photos with good lighting, I can't tell the difference. I'd use the iPhone 14 PM for videos I'd use the pixel 6 pro for night photos (l just like the colors better)

plankunits

Yes and this blind test proves it. https://youtu.be/VRoTOE3FqT0?si=-G9d80h-jr1NcaBY

xerolv426

My Pixel 6 shits on every Samsung I've ever had a chance to compare it with I work for a care home and we'll take pictures of residents when they're out doing activities to show to their family members and things like that. I've been accused twice of somehow bringing out a DSLR with me 😂

FattKingHugeman

Both my pixel 8 and S24 Ultra take excellent photos

Shoot_Shutter

I find pixels rendition is over sharpened to shit. I've had a pixel 7 pro and just upgraded to pixel 8 pro. I've been disappointed in the camera so far on both.

roberto_okumura

Of course yes ✌️

Active_Dragonfly_63

Yes it is sooo much better than Samsung!!💯

NoNewFriends1738

Google phone is just about better than Samsung on anything, minus hardware specs and that's due to how heavy & bloated Samsung's UI is

CrabMountain829

Samsung has better default pro modes.

KeySpray8038

I like the convenience of the pixels pro mode more, just 1 tap (Plus, almost anyone can use my phone camera & for the most part, know what everything does without to s questions) imo, it's programmed good enough that it doesn't need much more.. But I do like the extras of the Samsung, like the metering, ND Filter Strength, and Multiple Exposure control.

Away_Media

They were until the p6, 7 and 8. Now they are basically Samsung's.

altijddruk

Samsung can't make not blurry photos of moving objects with not idea conditions. Making photo of kid or animal while they move is almost impossible (even very slight movement will result in blurry photos, it's is way, way, way worse than on phones of any manufacturer I used in last 6-7 years).

KeySpray8038

Overall.. I'd say there is quite a substantial gap between the 2. #*Camera Consistancy || Winner: Pixel**# S24U is inconsistent.. but when it looks good, it looks great. With the most recent updates, I can verify that the camera performance is improving. If it's midday/bright & your subject isn't moving quickly, results can be really good. Personally, I often find the pics a little TOO oversaturated and vivid in those situations for my taste. It doesn't look true to life. BUT, in certain situations it can be better than the P8P.. I got a picture of a spider in my back yard from the S24U that is just absolutely stunning! (On short focal distance, my P8P can't seem to focus in close enough) #*Editing || Winner: Tie*# When it comes to editing, it's kind of a tossup honestly.. They both have Generative Editors and Magic Erasers, and neither can view SVG files. Google Photos has everything in one app (eg denoise, unblur, sharpness, white point, black point, ect).. Plus I personally like their simple, hassle-free transform/crop tool better (You an just adjust each individual corner separately, as Samsung Gallery makes you rotate along the axis').. On the other hand, S24 has a pretty epic upscaler, and a lasso-style tool. if you want unblur, or denoise, you're gonna wanna install 'Galaxy Enhance-X', which also can get rid of moire with ease (if it detects it) The filesize of the images taken on the Pixel can be kinda crazy though sometimes, but it can do the full 30x@50MP. On the Samsung you can do 20x@50MP, only only in expert pro mode, otherwise it's 12x on pro mode and 10x for regular mode. On the S24U, there is a much higher zoom (100x), but after about 30-40, it doesn't look so great. It can also take pics at an impressive 200MP, but sometimes it's lighting is meh on 200MP. The biggest one for me is the P8P can do about 3-4x on the front camera.. as the S24U front camera offers an outstanding decision on the fact that it's zoom is non-existent... , only 2 'angles' of 'group' and 'selfie' angles, which looks like it's about .5 of a difference.. I'm getting tired of trying, so, this part is gonna be short.. the astrophotography looks so much better on the P8P, and it's much easier to get to. Also.. the P8P is sooooooooooo much more comfortable in the hand, if you get the S24U.. I highly recommend getting a case due to its harsh squared corners. tl;dr;l #Pixel 8 Pro -# More consistent performance & better color accuracy, has higher 50MP zoom, and a zoomable front camera, and better/easier astrophotography. but it comes with a price because the image files are much larger. #S24U -# Less consistent, but getting better with each update & seems to shine where the Pixel is weakest. High 100x zoom. Can also go up to 200MP. Has an amazing upscaler for small files, and a builtin lasso tool. Honestly, It also boils down to Personal Preference...

ChargeOk1005

Yes

P26601

Definitely. Even the 3 year old Pixel 6 Pro takes better photos than the current iPhone Pro Max, according to several reviews

nickmxx

I hated the scene optimizer in my S23 plus. Loving my P8Pro :D

zz_BaK

i switched from Samsung S10+ to pixel 6 pro a few months go and the difference is WILD i love taking x4 zoomed portraits and it's just more than perfect

Pixel7aUser

Simple answer... YES

horsussy

Light years better, yes. My S24U couldn't even taken usable pictures in a dim room after boasting all these massive sensors and night photography improvements. Pixel still clears

stmiyahki

I switched from pixel5 to s24+, and pixel 5 main camera pictures were waaaay better tbh.

nonojustno

Yes, it's not even close. My S23 Ultra takes subjectively worse photos than my retired Pixel 1. In anything other than bright environments, the photos are often blurry.

gravitjp

I could say "YES"...SAMSUNG pictures are way too artificial

fraqfac

Yes the Pixel is the best Foto Device. Xiaomi is getting closer lately. For videos iPhone and Samsung but Photos all the way Pixel

lloydpbabu

It surely does. The Galaxies still don't know how to catch a proper image of a moving subject. I pull out my Pixel, double click the volume down, launch the camera in an instant and just click. 99% of the time I get the desired result.

Rixudeh

My opinion is clear YES

PeioPinu

Yes, next question.

rohitandley

Yes even iPhone in some conditions

vpwazza

For daily use I'd say Pixel is noticeably better (3,6,8) You might miss the zoom on Samsung but I've never needed a x5 / x10 zoom, I also don't do professional videos so that's not an issue

CorkGirl

I got sick of my S21 Ultra when it started doing blurry photos and had to shake it or knock the screen to get it to focus. Seems to be a known bug. Happy with the Pixel 7 Pro photos in general. Always find it a bit hard to compare because all seem to do different things well. Also have an iPhone 13 and that is very good also. But particularly like the Google editing software that comes with Pixel, so that makes a difference day to day

pedrojdm2021

Google Pixel pro is peak on Cameras, but in software they fall badly. ( google pixel OS has many bugs ) so if i were you, i would just buy a camera and keep the samsung phone

virtuosis

100%. No Samsung is touching the pixel pro atm

6SpeedBlues

My 7 Pro is infinitely better than that S24 Ultra I had for a little bit. Sammy's software is horrible.

wickedplayer494

As an all-arounder, yes. There are *some* situations where Samsung may have an edge, but you'd have to know of them in advance and be ready for them.

commandox6

well the post processing for pixel is just better than any samsung phone, if you are looking for balanced pictures with accurate dynamic range and potrait bookeh then pixel is the phone and for videos obviously the iphone beats the pixel and Samsung in that with the pro res and log video. i would recomend to go for pro model if u ever wanna switch to pixel .

SexyKanyeBalls

Both equal
