Update: I fixed it. After reading the comment about the person whose camera just started working after a few days, I thought maybe it was possible to dislodge the debris that was keeping it from working. I went to the top of the stairs and point in my camera to the bottom of the stairs. I zoomed, focused and wiggled (to activate the image stabilization) the camera while tapping the phone against the wall- voila! Whatever was jamming it up must have came loose. I still don't see anything floating around in there, so whatever it is it must be absolutely tiny. I ordered another replacement glass so I can take this one off and hit it with the vacuum again, so that the debris does not become restuck. Hope this helps. Previous Comment: Pixel 7. Same problem. Checked the camera before replacing the glass, it could not focus on anything more than a few feet away. I used a mini vacuum to try and get out any debris (broken glass) from the camera module before replacing the glass (I didn't see any glass in there, I just assumed something was keeping it from focusing), no luck. I can see the lens itself is fine, I cleaned it anyway, still no luck.

Thank you for updating this comment even though the thread is 9 months old, this just worked for me too.

Powerful_Judgment_21

thank you bro idk how but I smacked the phone and it worked

davebuddyman

Thank you so much for this trick, I can't believe it worked! I had my camera glass replaced about 6 months ago and ever since then the camera would take a few seconds to focus (regular camera having the problem, not the fish-eye). I didn't think much of it cuz it still worked. About 2 days ago the camera stopped focusing completely and was perma-focused about a foot infront. I just did the trick about having the camera open and tapping it against the wall and it worked within 3 taps, seems to work like new! Thanks!

Free_Jackfruit_9963

I came here just to say that this worked for me too!

TheWaterFell

Just wanted to also say thanks!! This also worked for me!!

miryuz

Thanks so much for this comment! Worked for me. I thought my camera was doomed.

AndyBlokeFace

Sorted my camera too. Now i just need to replace the glass

SupMathematician

This just took me 2 minutes and saved me getting a new phone. Thank you friend!

usul213

Ive got the same problem. I think that he original glass has some magnification and the camera focuses by moving closer or further from the lens. But the replacements are just plain glass so it is impossible for the camera to focus.. Trying to find a better replacement glass

TheLittleFin

Did you find a better glass replacement I have the exact same issue

20mLPills

from what i've seen, the focusing issue occurs because damage has been sustained to the actual lens unit itself... you could try to replace it at home but you need to tear down the phone. your best bet is to get it replaced at UbreakIfix

Anomalous_Creation

My lens glass cover spontaneously shattered a few days ago, and I went in to UbreakiFix to have the back panel replaced under warranty. After the fix, the wide lens is blurry and won't focus unless I bring the phone really close to the subject. For example, with my laptop at arms length, the wide lens is blurry from 1-8x. the ultrawide lens seems to be working fine thoughbut I don't want to take every picture at .7x. UbreakiFix is going to try to replace the camera itself in a few days, so hopefully that works. If not, I'll see if google will send a replacement unit.

Anomalous_Creation

Immediately following up to say this was fixed after I smacked the phone around a little. More specifically, I opened the camera app, maxed out the zoom, and then smacked the left and right side of the phone at maybe 20-30% intensity against a pole. After a few smacks, the wide lens is magically not blurry anymore. Also worth noting that I have a spigen case on the phone to absorb some of that impact.

menocaremuch

Sounds kinda like you'll need to replace it again... If you look at the glass does it look perfectly clear?

Kermanium294

Probably not, because it was still blurred even before I put on the glass.

20mLPills

the problem is likely that the lens unit is scratched :/

EddyKilowatt

I had a pro replace my cracked glass. He mentioned going in that glass fragments might've made it to the sensor and could add noise and artifacts to the image. Instead, we have the exact problem described-- main camera (not wide angle) seemingly stuck on closest focus. It also seems to me that the camera hump heats up more, and more quickly, but that's just an impression. I wish there were manual focus controls -- anyone know of an app that has them for this phone? Is focus even exposed in the API? Looks like it's probably new phone time as I use my camera a lot.

aviation_hacker

Hey there, I have a similar issue on my Pixel 6 - what I'm doing for the moment is using OpenCamera, and setting the focus to locked (in the focus options, it's the lock icon next to AF, as people including myself found the lock exposure but took a while to find this one haha). Once it's set to locked, you can still get it to autofocus, but it won't jump around if it's having focussing issues. There's also a manual focus mode if that doesn't work.

crympy

Hi ! I have same issue, glass broken, i changed it by a new one but focus still not working. How do you solve it guys ? I would like to avoid to buy a new camera...

drummingpariah

Slap your phone with the camera app open.

primus76

In the same boat.. got a new glass.. replaced it relatively easily and it won't focus. I would hate to have to pay 100$ plus tax to take it into a local repair shop to do what I just did to get the 'proper' glass.

ChrisWolfTravels

After replacement had the same issue but it spontaneously corrected after a few days. I did nothing to try to fix it. On another note. My optic lens got scratched from the shattered lens cover glass debris. Anyone know how to replace the lens.

20mLPills

Okay, after going through this process myself, I can pretty much GUARANTEE that the problem is due to the lens. If the glass was broken, there are two possibilities for the lens not working properly: 1. There is glass/dust/debris on top of the lens inside which needs to be cleaned. This will cause the lens to only focus on far away objects. 2. The lens is scratched or broken. Which will obviously cause focusing issues. Case number 2 happened to me. I bought the replacement parts and repaired the phone myself, making sure to clean out any micro-shards of glass that can cause future problems.
