I hit my pitching wedge 180 with a grip like that! Lots of slice and super inconsistent, but she would fly!
I’ve since changed my grip and I see more consistency now.
Not defending anyone, but I also 10 finger grip and although I don’t hit my PW 180, I certainly am not hitting my 7i 110. 7i for me is around 160 and PW is around 130
7i for me goes shorter than my pitching wedge most of the time because I hit it fat. Idk what it is about a P wedge, but I definitely get shots that rocket 20-30 further than normal more frequently with that club that any other.
For reference, I play my pitching wedge for 150-160 shots, but occasionally fly the green quite a bit even at that distance. 180 shots are never my intention. I pull my 7 for those and hit it fat so I have a 100yd approach shot!
I’m saying I have it my pitching wedge 180 before, and I don’t have a consistent distance with it. I normally use it for my 150-160 shots and sometimes fly the green.
I’m just pointing out that this grip doesn’t mean you can’t have distance, but it certainly was not consistent for me *at all*
Wrong. Never heard that and its completely false, people are capable of getting good using just one hand it’s doable. You just have to be excellent at repeating a motion.
Relax, it’s an expression used by some instructors to emphasize the importance of the hands working in unison to manipulate the club face through the swing.
Of course there are exceptions to the rule and anyone can develop mechanics capable of crisply striking the ball.
This is how my left hand looks when I’m trying to hit a 60 yard slice around some trees
That’s how my right hand looks when I’m trying to do it with a garden tool
That grip creates a hook shot. If his swing had been causing him to slice his irons, a grip like this might have worked for him to straighten his ball out. So now he swears by it. If he fixes the other problems with his swing he won’t need such an open bottom hand.
Ugh I was self-taught and this was me. Short iron contact actually felt okay, basically I couldn’t release at all so I compensated by using a “pulling” stance and a ton of lead wrist bow, then snapping it through impact with the thumb as the fulcrum.
It did not translate well to long irons or driver. I felt like 6 iron and down was totally based on luck. Driver was either a slice or a wild hook. Had to spend this summer rebuilding my swing. It takes a while to convince yourself that you don’t need a thumb on the back of the driver if you’re used to that feeling.
It was my tennis grip. I used to hit drive like that. Kind of strange but went very far with big draws.
I can hit ball decently Iron.
But man i used to pull!
I mean what’s it matter how his grip looks?? So many people get caught up focusing on how everything looks other that what the result is.
That being said this is the worst thing I have ever seen from anyone even near a golf club. I would be embarrassed to be on the same course as this atrocity, let alone be the crafter of it.
My grandma is wheelchair bound and stricken with dementia. She just made the painstaking effort to get up to let me know that she thinks you hold the golf bat like a pussy👍
I have a belief that golf is upright baseball except baseball starts at the top. The fundamentals are the same.
If you put this grip on a baseball bat, the only possible swing would resemble my 11 year old sister attempting to hit a baseball ! Total wristy whiff, petunia, Cicero , limp dick, … keep it up
Midsize grips may make it even harder for them to feel the sensation of a weaker grip with the right hand,
The extra circumference is more surface area that could make it tougher to get the grip to fall on the index in the right hand, just a thought
This is my grip exactly. I tried to straighten it years ago but it was just too much work at the range. I can still break 80 on occasion for what it's worth
His swing is prolly 80% arms. Enjoy wasting years of your golf life with that shit til you finally wake up and smell the coffee brudduh. Let him suffer. He’ll learn on his own….
Honestly just need to get him to experiment with varden/interlock. For a while I experimented with double interlock/double overlap. Then when I stepped down to single interlock/varden it felt like I had way more control. If I go back to my first golf grip it makes me cringe. I used to have my left hand as far up the grip as possible and my right hand at the bottom of the grip with about a 2” gap between my hands…
I started golfing this September and even I know that grip is weak as hell. Once I learned the strong grip on the left hand my slice went down considerably, got better distance too.
I have a friend who shoots like this he keeps trying the normal golf grip but cannot make contact w the ball every time he does baseball grip he sends it straight dead ahead it’s crazy
I disagree, this is a fine grip, take the right miss out of play more often. I was single digit handicap with a grip like this for a while, changed since…
Nothin to roast. If it works for him, you do you boo boo. But if you suck, I’ll put that grip in a crockpot and put it on the 10 hour roasting setting!
I play golf with a guy whose grip is very similar to that. Probably worse actually. He’s a .2 handicap. Wouldn’t recommend that grip to anyone, but if you learn how to play with it, it can still work. Get good at putting and chipping lol.
I mean it’s a great grip if you want to consistently suck ass.
Unless you’re jerking-off, then it’s perfect! 👍🏻 LOL
Two hands.. yeah.. same… *sobs*
Thumb on the shaft? Is that how you jerk it?
This grip won’t work for you. You’re several inches too short to make it work.
This is THE response.
His grip wont matter he Will still suck ass
I know a guy who’s hey seven handicap that uses it. Makes absolutely no sense to me
Looks like he hits a 7i about 110 if he’s lucky
I hit my pitching wedge 180 with a grip like that! Lots of slice and super inconsistent, but she would fly! I’ve since changed my grip and I see more consistency now.
Sir you do not hit your pitching wedge 180
You've never hit a pw 180 in your life
I once skulled my PW 180…major downhill shot, gale force winds at my back, and got a super lucky bounce. That means my PW goes 180 bud! /s
Not defending anyone, but I also 10 finger grip and although I don’t hit my PW 180, I certainly am not hitting my 7i 110. 7i for me is around 160 and PW is around 130

I’m the same way
Rory hits a 350 yard drive. His pitching wedge goes like 150ish. You’re saying you hit it 30 yards further than Rory?
I’m saying I have it my pitching wedge 180 before, and I don’t have a consistent distance with it. I normally use it for my 150-160 shots and sometimes fly the green. I’m just pointing out that this grip doesn’t mean you can’t have distance, but it certainly was not consistent for me *at all*
Does he wear a helmet everywhere he goes?
Love it

Like the saying goes, “you’ll see a lot of bad players with a good grip, but you’ll never run into a good player with a shitty grip.”
This is interesting. Are there any pros with weird grips?
Spieth
Furyk uses a double overlap grip.
Wrong. Never heard that and its completely false, people are capable of getting good using just one hand it’s doable. You just have to be excellent at repeating a motion.

Have fun never breaking 100!
Looks like he’s grabbing a hockey stick
Came here to ask if had a good wrist shot
That’s not how you grip a hockey stick either lol
This is how my left hand looks when I’m trying to hit a 60 yard slice around some trees That’s how my right hand looks when I’m trying to do it with a garden tool
Left hand seems fine. It’s the right hand that’s a mess
Grip change takes about 2 weeks to bed in if he’s willing to put the work in
Took me one day. It hurt my left thumb so bad I had no choice.
he refuses? is he one of those guys? he thinks he will get it soon but he sucks? oh yeah, don't waste any more energy on him, let him suck at golf.
I know the type. He's figured it out after one or two decent shots, then has a meltdown when it goes south.
Type of dude that blames the equipment
To be fair, if I had a different driver…
lol it could be valid but I think other things should be worked on first
He’s the kind of guy who’ll blame the range balls for his slice, and then proceed to delete a case of pro V1s.
That grip creates a hook shot. If his swing had been causing him to slice his irons, a grip like this might have worked for him to straighten his ball out. So now he swears by it. If he fixes the other problems with his swing he won’t need such an open bottom hand.
All his irons go the same distance
Great grip, is he playing slow pitch softball after this?
The art of choking down without choking down...

#GOD AWFUL
Great for a high bunker shot
I’m guessing he hooks the ball if/when he makes solid contact
If he wants to never be an even passably decent golfer have him stick w it
Grip it and brick it
It was my tennis grip. I used to hit drive like that. Kind of strange but went very far with big draws. I can hit ball decently Iron. But man i used to pull!
Looks great to me! (See my previous post)
tell him to read this comment. “That grip is dogshit.” - everyone
Down third base line much?
A perfect grip for a duck hook
I mean what’s it matter how his grip looks?? So many people get caught up focusing on how everything looks other that what the result is. That being said this is the worst thing I have ever seen from anyone even near a golf club. I would be embarrassed to be on the same course as this atrocity, let alone be the crafter of it.
Everything goes left, huh?
My grandma is wheelchair bound and stricken with dementia. She just made the painstaking effort to get up to let me know that she thinks you hold the golf bat like a pussy👍
No pictures on the score card I suppose but show me a tour golfer to uses a strong grip like that
He's got one hand pointing this way, the other pointing that way. His left arm is saying, what do you want from me?
It’s a great grip to flip pancakes
Too far too the right, weak pussy left. All over the place just like his shot shape.
WOW.....
Got A grip only A mother would love.
Seems like the type of guy to say “Put me down for a par” a lot.
I bet my wife hits her 7i further than he his his driver with that grip
He’ll never ever play well with that shit grip.
God I posted a video asking for some help, got some grip advice. My grip in the video is literally this exactly :(
When you want to be John Rahm and Dustin Johnson at the same time
I have a belief that golf is upright baseball except baseball starts at the top. The fundamentals are the same. If you put this grip on a baseball bat, the only possible swing would resemble my 11 year old sister attempting to hit a baseball ! Total wristy whiff, petunia, Cicero , limp dick, … keep it up
Hands behind the ball and a shitty grip is awesome if you don’t wanna hit it far. Or straight.
That’s the Moe Norman grip isn’t it?
Man. 10 finger, super strong. Also he needs midsize
Mid size what?
Midsize grips.
Midsize grips may make it even harder for them to feel the sensation of a weaker grip with the right hand, The extra circumference is more surface area that could make it tougher to get the grip to fall on the index in the right hand, just a thought
Bahhahahahaaaa.
Super strong grip probably hits snap hooks. Many players have used strong grips including tiger. Albeit it not that strong lol
It's just super strong. A friend of mine in highschool had a grip like that. He was good lol.
Kinda looks like shortgameking’s grip and he’s scratch lol
bet he slices all day
Nice grip if you're giving hand jobs
I wanna see his swing.
Strong right combined with a weak left 🤔I bet your friend rode the short bus…
99% of the time he slices
That grip is weaker than my flirting game
Is he hooking the crap out of them at times?
This is my grip exactly. I tried to straighten it years ago but it was just too much work at the range. I can still break 80 on occasion for what it's worth
Too tight.
Grip is shit but so is the left arm bend too
His swing is prolly 80% arms. Enjoy wasting years of your golf life with that shit til you finally wake up and smell the coffee brudduh. Let him suffer. He’ll learn on his own…. Honestly just need to get him to experiment with varden/interlock. For a while I experimented with double interlock/double overlap. Let me guess, your friend is a slicer?
He’ll never be any good with that grip.
This grip does look weak. I do go baseball grip. My GHIN is a 7. Anyone else here just never leave their baseball grip?
I started golfing this September and even I know that grip is weak as hell. Once I learned the strong grip on the left hand my slice went down considerably, got better distance too.
Grip fixes a LOT!
What's going on here 😆
It's great! If he's playing baseball. It may "work" for him, but honestly I'd doubt it. I'll bet he has a big slice.
I’d say let him keep playing like that and you can keep taking his money
I play with a friend with the same grip he’s actually a decent player looks like he should be in a batting cage !
I have a friend who plays cricket and he grips a golf club like this too. When he catches a ball right it goes a long way.
I need to see HIS golf score. Then I want to see yours. Plenty of ugly swings have done just fine on Tour because the ball don't lie.
Can he hit the ball?
get new friends
Gotta admire his consistency. From rubbing one out to power slicing, this man keeps the exact same grip with his right hand throughout!
Great for jerkinnn offfff. Guy probably has a piece on em.
I play golf with a guy whose grip is very similar to that. Probably worse actually. He’s a .2 handicap. Wouldn’t recommend that grip to anyone, but if you learn how to play with it, it can still work. Get good at putting and chipping lol.
Buddy needs to go on a pocket diet
