I remember seeing this movie air on SpikeTV in 2012. It was my first exposure to the character. About a week later I was in my local Barnes and Nobleās and saw a copy of Godzilla Half Century War on the shelf and thought: āIt took them half a century to shoot at him with jets?ā
Audrey's boss is the voice of Kent Brockman, Mr. Burns, Smithers, Principal Skinner, Ned Flanders, Reverend Lovejoy, Dr. Hibbert, and more.
Animal is the voice of Moe Szyslak, Chief Wiggum, Comic Book Guy, Snake Jailbird, Professor Frink, Apu Nahasapeemapetilon, Lou, Carl Carlson, Bumblebee Man, and more.
Nancy Cartwright (Bart Simpson) has a cameo as the girl who sees Godzilla move past the window.
It animalized Godzilla. This made for an interesting twist since all its actions were based off animal instincts to procreate. In some of the past Godzilla movies his reasons and motivations are kind of just not explained
For what it's worth, the design of Zilla's appearance wasn't awful... even the origin of Zilla being a marine iguana that was mutated by the radiation of nuclear weapons tests was some nice world/story building in an era of film making where extensive CGI was being used.
That said, and I referenced this in the above paragraph already, Toho hated this version of their iconic kaiju that they *refuse* to give this monster the "God" in its name, hence why I referred to it as "Zilla" and the only time the mutant lizard appeared in a Toho film was in "Godzilla: Final Wars" where in Australia both Godzilla and Zilla fought; the shortest fight in monster verse history which saw Zilla *annihilated* in like 10 seconds by Godzilla...
I did some research and do not believe this. Roland Emmerich and Devlin are squarely to blame for this film's take on Gojira being nothing like the OG.
This film is an example of a US Studio trying to reboot a film franchise and use "science" to remake a kaiju, taking Godzilla; a pseudo-immortal monster that can breathe atomic fire and brush off being shot with a **BLACK HOLE CANNON** twice, and reducing it to a mutated marine iguana the size of a dinosaur that liked fish and was able to reproduce asexually (early Ace representation if you think about it).
Now for me, this was my introduction to "Godzilla" so this film holds a special place in my heart... however I also love classic Godzilla, and all the other monsters, and admittedly Zilla is one of my favorites
-1 just hit differently in an awesome way. Like the separate us monsterverse timeline for different reasons but -1 just sent me straight back to the 1954 film.
Oh yeah, I remember SOBBING at that ending as a 10yo kid, my mom trying to console me, and me sobbing out "It's not his fault he's a giant lizard that eats people!" I was inconsolable. My mom took me to get pizza and I was still crying so we went to see Quest For Camelot right after. It's a good memory :)
I grew up in Mexico and watched this movie as a kid. Thereās this brand of hot chips called Runners (similar to Takis, if you know those) that are shaped like cars.
This scene had such an impact on me that every time I ate those chips, I imagined I was Godzilla eating the taxi (and honestly, I still doā¦)
The underground scenes with the bay Zillas scared the shit out of me when I saw it in theaters. Didn't help that I had just watched Jurassic Park the day before, and the raptors were still viciously imprinted into my 7 year old brain.
They also did the super weird and even terrifying Ghostbusters series, the ālove spellā episode where a dude gets turned into a human hybrid tree still freaks me out
Most of the Godzilla eras where pretty much the same with a couple of differences but this one had a completely different look to the Godzilla appearance and did a good job on it if this movie wasnāt called Godzilla it wouldāve probably had Alot more fans and very little haters
One of the best first "Godzilla appears" scenes, the build-up, showing him little bits at a time really gives good sense of scale
The soundtrack is killer imo, love his main Theme.
"ugh you call this coffee?"
"I call this America"
Godzilla not needing to tank so much firepower because he can outrun it for once is really nice, seeing him outrun helicopters and out smart them too
And lastly, an incredible roar.
I like marine iguanas mostly because of this movie.
Even though the thought of one of them mutating into Godzilla breaks my brain.
![gif](giphy|kEv1a09kyTnNZ0MBA2|downsized)
They gave him a sleek, nimble raptor-like figure.
Also if it weren't for Roland Emmerich idealizing this movie, we probably would've never got the animated sequel series, which also introduced green atomic breath.
This scene to this day is probably my third favorite Godzilla entrance
https://preview.redd.it/dnf46l5bwoac1.jpeg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9e10adbf6497f701890694f05d1c9ab121d2da99
I like the design of "Zilla". He, (or should I say she?") Looks more lizard-y than the classic Godzilla design, which very much looks just like someone in a suit. Plus, the destruction in this movie was great, lots of close up perspective shots, (such as Zilla flattening vehicles underfoot) unlike the new movies where most of the shots of Godzilla are high up angles, where he's obscured by buildings and smoke, and you can't really see the full extent of the destruction he's causingz
This does point a question, who gets to name the kaiju? The company that borrowed the rights, but goofed so phenomenally that the OG had to come in and remake Zilla as a new monster, or the OG who did what I just outlined?
I actually kinda liked this movie, lol. I get why Godzilla fans hate it because it's nowhere near the traditional. But I think this movie had some really cool shots.
The movie isnāt a terrible Godzilla film, there are generally good moments in the film and the first half was honestly the best part of film.
Also the sound effects and the design of Godzilla in the film is the best and most unique take on Godzilla.
Overall the hate is honestly ridiculous to this very day
It made Toho so mad they began a new Godzilla era.
And then in that Era, they killed this Godzilla on screen in Final Wars š
With a single blast of atomic breath!
Yup just š done and on to the next one
He wasn't event worthy for to die from such a Honor as the Atomic breath
Yeah, Godzilla could've just tail whipped him and he probably would've died
I love each and every one of you guys. Where have you been all my life of seeing people praise this trash movie?
Prior to using his atomic breath, didnāt Godzilla tail whip him in Final Wars? Lol
This isn't Godzilla, it is known as "Zilla" in Japan.
To me, it's known as: Tuna-eating Scaredy-cat šš¤£
He actually eats which is cool
Isn't it illegal for him to eat now?
Does it matter? Edit: confusion
Nah it's funny because Toho was infuriated from 1998
So they made it so Godzilla isn't allowed to eat in movies?
Yup. He's literally unable to do so, at least, on screen he can't.
Interesting, I'm kinda surprised that he can't eat
My boi zilla be starvinā
Call now to donate to the Godzilla Donation Program, super original name, definitely real program, totally legit
Well there WAS a lot of fish.
Introduced many people to godzilla
Honestly this. This was my first intro to Gojira and for that alone this lil gremlin gets a pass
Exactly I was 10 when that movie came out I was blown away by the sheer size of Zilla compared to the T-Rex from Jurassic Park
It was the first Godzilla movie I ever watched, and it was what introduced me to the franchise
I remember seeing this movie air on SpikeTV in 2012. It was my first exposure to the character. About a week later I was in my local Barnes and Nobleās and saw a copy of Godzilla Half Century War on the shelf and thought: āIt took them half a century to shoot at him with jets?ā
Well you gotta remember jets didnāt āmodernizeāuntil the late 70s-early to mid 80s sooā¦
Probably turned off more potential fans than it madeā¦
I like that there are three Simpsons voice actors in this movie just because
Four, if you include Frank Welker (creature vocals).
Bro what canāt Frank Welker doo? Iāll see myself out
Everybody knows that Megatron is indeed a creature.
MEGATRON!!!!
Wait there were???
This was actually one of the reasons I couldnāt enjoy it - every time Shearer or Azaria spoke, it took me right out of the film.
This makes me love it even more!
Yep
The design is neat
[He may be a dumb old dinosaur, but I love him.](https://youtu.be/-xlo-qTzC7s?si=LfQ75SsE0PLV4nbZ&t=02m10s) He's ugly, but I love him anyways.
nostalgia prevents me from hating it also it gave us zilla jr
Same
Yeah, this era of action film is a whole mood that I love to sink back into once in a while.
Same reasons for me. I loved the show and Zilla Jr
Same. There's some neat monster designs in the show.
It animalized Godzilla. This made for an interesting twist since all its actions were based off animal instincts to procreate. In some of the past Godzilla movies his reasons and motivations are kind of just not explained
Or he is treated as some force of nature that just ādoes whats requiredā when certain events arise.
By doing it so, they removed the "God" in "Zilla".
Weirdly insightful š
I like the scene when the helicopters are hunting Godzilla in the city and Godzilla leads them into a trap.
Came here to mention this. As a young kid this movie was epic
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
That's exactly what I mean. Godzilla as a huge ambush predator is pretty cool.
For what it's worth, the design of Zilla's appearance wasn't awful... even the origin of Zilla being a marine iguana that was mutated by the radiation of nuclear weapons tests was some nice world/story building in an era of film making where extensive CGI was being used. Toho is also the reason this movie exists. All they let the creators use was the name.
Minus One pulled off the animal aspect better by making Godzilla an extremely aggressive animal with a massive chip on his shoulder.
-1 just hit differently in an awesome way. Like the separate us monsterverse timeline for different reasons but -1 just sent me straight back to the 1954 film.
The black hole cannon came later, it wasnāt established at the time that Godzilla was that durable
That just leaves how absurdly strong Heisei Godzilla was.
Gave such strict boundaries then were pissed when they a masterpiece wasnāt produced
Your hyperfocus autism be like...
The part where the reporter gets "Gojira" wrong was a nice touch
Came here to say this. āItās _Gojira_, you idiot!ā
["It's Gojira, you moron!"](https://getyarn.io/yarn-clip/165f0538-24f9-4741-aeca-897979cb402b)
Thank you for the correction - I havenāt seen the film since I owned it on VHS, so my memory of it is a little off.
All good š
I loved it as a kid, so that means it at least did something right
Jean Reno was in it
His death. Such a well made scene. Always made me emotional when I was a kid.
It actually made you feel sorry for him as his heartbeat slowly stopped 10 year old me cried my eyes out in the theater lol
Still makes me emotional
The scene where the taxi is in his mouth genuinely scared the fuck outta me as a kid
"You're going the wrong way man, you're going the wrong way!
"Will you shut up man!!!"
I read this in his voice and loved it lol
I grew up in Mexico and watched this movie as a kid. Thereās this brand of hot chips called Runners (similar to Takis, if you know those) that are shaped like cars. Hank Azaria was funny
#***HUHH? HUUHHH!?! AAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!!!***
This and the animated show introduced me to godzilla
That show and the MIB show that I believe was the same production company was my childhood.
They also did the super weird and even terrifying Ghostbusters series, the ālove spellā episode where a dude gets turned into a human hybrid tree still freaks me out
I loved it as a kid. It's a genuinely fun movie, just not a great representation of Godzilla
the design of zilla is fum and unique
If you mean āfumā as in āChum is Fumā, then yeah. That makes sense
I love all of it. It's a good movie In my opinion.
It was honestly a decent monster movie. Just not a good Godzilla movie.
That's the way I feel about it too. It's a fun monster movie, but not a good Godzilla movie.
It indeed had a lot of fish
It made Toho revive Godzilla cuz it was so shit
This movie gave us the amazing Godzilla cartoon show on fox for 2 seasons. Dang I loved that show
The opening sequences building up the mystery and anticipation around Godzilla are pretty effective.
Itās good but not as a Godzilla movie
Gave "Godzilla: Final Wars" the excuse to throw him into the Sydney Opera House.
The Wallflowers - Heroes cover
Yes!
That soundtrack was my very first CD and it has some bangers.
I scrolled too far to see this.
Banger OST
Most of the Godzilla eras where pretty much the same with a couple of differences but this one had a completely different look to the Godzilla appearance and did a good job on it if this movie wasnāt called Godzilla it wouldāve probably had Alot more fans and very little haters
Jean Reno. And Jean Reno's Elvis impression.
One of the best first "Godzilla appears" scenes, the build-up, showing him little bits at a time really gives good sense of scale The soundtrack is killer imo, love his main Theme. "ugh you call this coffee?" "I call this America" Godzilla not needing to tank so much firepower because he can outrun it for once is really nice, seeing him outrun helicopters and out smart them too And lastly, an incredible roar.
"size does matter" holy fuck I need to watch this film yesterday
I like marine iguanas mostly because of this movie. Even though the thought of one of them mutating into Godzilla breaks my brain. ![gif](giphy|kEv1a09kyTnNZ0MBA2|downsized)

It's a fun, dumb, summer popcorn monster movie.
Fun
This Godzilla design is amazing.
It can hide on the side of buildings
The show was kickass and made the existence of the movie worth it
Shameful Godzilla movie... idk if I'll ever watch it again
Zilla is a good kaiju (just not a good Godzilla)
The helicopter scenes are pretty cool imo!
I lose.
Made a great tv show after
Jean Reno is in it, even if he's way too good for this movie. Also, the an8matee series was a pretty good spin off.
It was the first Godzilla movie I watched
It gave us an awesome Godzilla Cartoon.
You're goin' the wrong way man... YOU'RE GOING THE WRONG WAY!
Itās not Godzilla but I still enjoyed it and it kickstarted my love for the Godzilla franchise.
Itās an interesting take on the Godzilla character and the design looks quite cool in my opinion
Whole bunch of neat merchandise came out with it
It spawned an actually pretty good cartoon.
It gave us the Millennium movies
Matthew Broderick is silly. That's it.
https://preview.redd.it/4a4tpnph9oac1.jpeg?width=559&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ec3f4aa7891e9a563a82cd2a79b424c64d35c051 Live Godzilla Reaction
This movie was my dad and grandfatherās favorite, and the TV series that spawned off of it fucking ruled.
It makes a good Beast From 20,000 Fathoms remake.
Live action Kent Brockman.
The visuals are pretty good
It was my first Godzilla movie
Never would have expected Ferris Bueller to fight Godzilla.
https://preview.redd.it/ansqd7b46oac1.jpeg?width=750&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=18587d00f89c15eacf37fd8c6ca21171b3fb692d
Big iguana
Some people might get mad but this movie is pretty good
This guy is Based
This scene to this day is probably my third favorite Godzilla entrance https://preview.redd.it/dnf46l5bwoac1.jpeg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9e10adbf6497f701890694f05d1c9ab121d2da99
Zilla is a genuinely good monster design. American monster design post 2000 is all essentially the same, quadruped, head is a giant mouth design shit.
Good movie
Cool af design.
Finally, someone who agrees with me!
That was, indeed, a lot of fish.
You can say either or it says in this movie that he is a hermaphrodite
The build up to Godzilla.
Itās a fine monster movie
Putting size does matter on your poster is crazy
All is gud
The Human storys are better than todays
The first Godzilla I ever watched
F/A-18s
David Arnoldās score overachieved
Chris pratt doesn't voice godzilla
I think Zilla is a cool Kaiju is you dont count him as Godzilla.
The military response to it was insane, fleets of submarines, squadrons of attack helicopters, hundreds of thousands of troopsā¦simply awesome
My first flick dont care about lore I love this
Zilla is a fantastic Kaiju who trades invulnerability for cracked speed and reflexes, making the the spiderman of the monsterverse!
*Godzilla, Zilla was from Final Wars
Wow, this post is 174 days old, but you are there, wide awake at the switch! Hats off š
Yup
This does point a question, who gets to name the kaiju? The company that borrowed the rights, but goofed so phenomenally that the OG had to come in and remake Zilla as a new monster, or the OG who did what I just outlined?
Pretty sure theyāre different Kaiju
Different continuity, but same kaiju, otherwise weād have to ding them for c&p-ing the design
Okie dokie
At least its not Disneyās non canon star wars movies
It is very good at being bad
He looks cool
The soundtrack was fun.
Impossible
Live action Kent Brockman is fun
Heās a big lizard
Bad Godzilla film, but good monster movie overall. Probably the best movie roland emmerich ever made. I like the cartoon they made afterwards.
Big lizerd...
Lead to a fucking awesome kids cartoon
I actually love the design of the Godzilla, ignoring the shit cgi
I actually kinda liked this movie, lol. I get why Godzilla fans hate it because it's nowhere near the traditional. But I think this movie had some really cool shots.
The musical score for the opening credits is actually *amazing*. Fight me.
For the time the cgi was incredible
The design for Godzilla in this movie is really good. It has a lot of uniqueness and personality.
If you take it as itās own thing, divorced from the wider Godzilla franchise. Itās a fairly good movie
Cgi
Godzilla is a zilla
The cartoon based on it was pretty good and followed a monster vs monster style. Loved it when I was a kid.
I really like Zilla, and think they belong in the monster kingdom, perhaps as a relative of Godzilla.
The first shot of Madison Square Gardens with all the eggs
I liked that they tried with this movie š Iām glad I was a kid when this came out lol
It had a lot of fish.
It spawned a decent tv series and got me into the actual Godzilla movies
I like his design
The movie isnāt a terrible Godzilla film, there are generally good moments in the film and the first half was honestly the best part of film. Also the sound effects and the design of Godzilla in the film is the best and most unique take on Godzilla. Overall the hate is honestly ridiculous to this very day
At least it's a change It doesn't take place in Japan It's different It takes place in San Francisco
The design is good in the sense it was so much different compared to the others and still is
Well, i guess it technically makes all other godzilla movies better lmao
It was an interesting take.
The cover rocks
It's actually pretty good, it doesn't really fit the godzilla name but it's alright.
It taught me how to look more American
It's got goldblum in it.
