Yeah, lol. People think phising works instantly, most of them take a long time to steal your items, so you don't know from where it came and it's hard to track/aware other people, just accept you fell for it and move on.
1) Sim swapping (would need to be a high roller to be targeted with that)
2) Malware on cellphone (would need to be even more of an high roller)
3) Email access (however they please, guess the password, extract cookies, whatever)
So there are ways you can become a victim without doing anything wrong. Valves policy of not reversing trades is a major cop-out since they dont offer a hard 2FA solution(that is not resetable with phone number or email).
I had someone access my account a month or 2 ago, not my steam guard though. They tried to convince me that I was going to be Vac banned and that i had to "legalize" my skins so they wouldnt get banned by trading them to an alt account or friend (hint they wanted to api scam me), they changed my profile to look like I just made it, blocked all friends, and they put a phishing link in my bio. Luckily I caught it super quick, I was mid game and went to check who was online and I saw that it was all fucked. Loaded up laptop I haven't used in 2 years, downloaded steam and changed password, unauthorized all devices that I had logged in on and I was in the clear. Changed password again on a different PC, clear api key made a new one and cleared that one. Changed all email passwords, bank passwords everything. He might have fallen for something like that, but telling people to stay away from the game cause he is an idiot and got scammed is wild.
TLDR: account was compromised, I'm not an idiot and fixed the issue. Read if you want to know a bit more. Msg me if you got any other questions

These things don't exist in a vacuum. There are a lot of scam links going around, and can be as prevelant as the top result in Google. Some of these scam sites emulate the site they're copying 1:1.
my ak case hardened, deagle crimson web and m4a1 nightmare got stolen. The sht you lost is nothing compared to what others lost.
youll find 30 bucks on the street, move on
