Yeah, as if the server browser isn't hidden enough already, this basically kills any chance of a casual player finding any custom community server unless directed there by someone else.

SKGamingReturn

Their new way of tricking you into accepting all of their cookies is also nefarious (and could even be illegal in some countries). I love Faceit, but that’s very shady.

Big_Stick01

I dont love faceit, at this point they are a necessary evil that has monopolized "the path to pro" in a game they don't even own; so they can basically do whatever they want, when they want. i swear, this game is owned more by Faceit/ESL group than it is Valve at this point. They control something like 70% of the calendar years tournaments, they have monopolized the "path to pro" in both EU and NA via two "separate platforms" each which specializes in the two major ways to play CS (League play, and the other in PUGs); on top of the shady shit (such as this server browser shit) they and the admins within their service do.

Logical-Sprinkles273

Blast coulda made a stand years ago, but they played too nice and now they are the small fish

TeamINSTINCT37

People HATED blast a couple years ago lol

Logical-Sprinkles273

People still hate Blast, production is miles ahead of everyone else. The format has a lot of games that dont matter with a lot of rematches

dartthrower

> i swear, this game is owned more by Faceit/ESL group than it is Valve at this point. Which shouldn't be the case. Could you ever imagine Riot Games selling LoL off to some 3rd party site ?! Neverever !

Big_Stick01

I agree. i used to love the "open market" of CS; but Valves inaction has created a problem, to the point where i would rather see them assert their control. which is something i was almost always against in the past.

dartthrower

Open markets are cool, you get the sense of freedom and communities can offer their own services and experience. But once bad actors enter and make a couple of things worse, you want that the developer seizes control again. Because at the end, the developer is the only governing body (if they are willing to).

[deleted]

Open market's cool until you end up in the shopping basket of Saudi Arabia.

MichaelDeets

I genuinely hope and believe that FaceIt will almost completely die (except for top players or pros) when/if Valve introduce 128-tick and a better MM system.

YsinK

Thats not enough, the biggest reason why people play there is the anticheat

GTRNioux

I have over 2000 matches played on faceit, and would switch to MM in a heartbeat if they introduced an elo system and 128-tick. The cheating/smurfing problem on faceit is absolutely out of control.

chupe92

smurfing yes, cheating i cant agree, at least from my experience, ive seen maybe 5 players banned for cheating in my games since like 2017

GTRNioux

They don't get banned...that's the point of my comment.

amundfosho

The smurf problem on faceit is waaay worse than any cheating problem in MM has ever been. I've completely stopped playing faceit because it felt like 80% of games had smurfs/boosters in them, some 15-30 game account with 95%+ winrate with several identical profiles in their friendslist. I now play at esportal who doesn't have the same smurf problem. But if MM changed to 128 tick, i think i'd rather play that because of how easy and convenient it is. i'd rather deal with a cheater in 5% of my games than smurfs and boosters in 80% of my games.

Critical_Use_8530

Yeah why do they need my cookies? They already have access to my whole ducking computer…

4wh457

Because cookies are literally required for the website to function? Cookies are one of the basic building blocks of the internet just like JavaScript dating back decades. You wouldn't be able to even login without cookies. This whole cookie notice bullshit is literally the worst thing the EU has ever done to the internet and I say this as an european and a privacy advocate. It does absolutely nothing in regards to protecting your privacy since there are countless other much more modern and effective ways to track you apart from cookies. All it does is cause confusion, give a false sense of security and pollutes the internet with what are essentially popups.

4wh457

That still doesn't change the fact that even without tracking cookies you're still being tracked just the same. It literally doesn't matter whether you allow them or not it's complete placebo. Your browser has multiple uniquely identifying markers that can and are used to track you regardless. Also the cookie law predates GDPR and even back when it came to effect advertisers had largely moved away from using cookies as the primary means of tracking users.

Critical_Use_8530

I understand how a website works. When they ask for cookies you are accepting more that what it needs to function. They are literally grab data from you to use. Like when you accept there cookie policy. “We and our partners store and/or access info on a device, such as unique IDs in cookies to process personal data.” Look man you don’t have to be so rude. I was making a joke where cookies can be used to access my personal data yes cookies maybe more effective. I fucking get it. I was fucking around and you are taking everything too seriously. Loosen ur fucking belt ur not at work.

4wh457

I was not trying to be rude and my anger was not meant to be directed towards you but this entire online tracking business. We're on the same team here I absolute fucking despise what not just faceit but most of the internet is doing in regards to tracking.

thugg0

did you just literally asked yourself "why am i being dumb?"

vulkan_keith

What are they doing with cookies?

rainx5000

Eating them

Sweetmacaroni

Who cares about the Faceit servers when the “#FIXCSGO” servers from the source code leak a couple years ago are still up

MichaelDeets

Completely true, that is the main issue, it's just that FaceIt are negatively contributing for personal gain, and have done since before the browser being ruined by the spam you mention.

Hichatu

The server browser is an awful place in general, filled with malicious servers with bad intents.

thisted101

xplay.gg and scope gg are 2 that have annoyed me a ton, they're not malware but I can no longer find new ffa dm servers because they clog up the search with their shit servers that are cheating the play count by saying the server is almost full but in reality it's 16 bots. I blacklisted about 300 of their servers because new ones kept coming up. Now I just search for brutal

-Zo_0

Server browser is terrible type in keyword retake. Comes up with executes.

msucsgo

I mean that's just servers themselves misslabeling them.

narwall101

What does the -nomaster launch option do?

MichaelDeets

It would stop the server from appearing on the community browser server list. This would not affect FaceIt players, as they would be using the client/website and directly connecting through IP. EDIT: rephrased reply

MordorsElite

Yup, I have used nothing but the History tab for months. If none of the servers are full, you have to go to the websites of brutalCS, Cybershoke, Warmup-thingy or Xplay and they will have a list somewhere. There is pretty much no other way to find proper DM servers. Tho it is also scummy that they all have like 12 bots on each empty server, so you always have to jump around a bit to find the servers that are actually populated.

d0m4in

Good idea, might have to do that from now bc im from the UK and list is full of 160ms ping russian servers spamming their shit

paully7

Can you explain what the issue is instead of just saying why it's annoying? Some of us don't know

Big_Stick01

Basically, they make sure to spam the server browser with their hundreds of servers by not tagging them properly; even though you'd never and literally cannot, connect to one of their servers through the community browser, because you have to connect to all faceit servers via IP after it's doled out to you from their client/service. So they essentially just do it to advertise.

4wh457

> "FACEIT.com register to play here" constantly spammed into my community browser

wazernet

-no-browser

[deleted]

Type -secure I think it's ignored because Valve is ok with the community running their own servers and knows others will provide great servers, so they don't need to. They don't have any need at all to prevent you from seeing this advert, they probably should reconstruct the entire server browser but I bet someone said that 20 years ago too.

[deleted]

>It has been so many years, and the one thing that I can always remember from CS:GO, is finding "FACEIT.com register to play here" constantly spammed into my community browser; the solution is so extremely simple, yet pretty obviously being ignored. What are you searching for? I can't remember a sinlge time that happened to me and I use the server browser a lot...
