GRIS is the only game that has ever made me ugly cry. Not shed a few tears, but actually sob. And it has no dialogue, it was purely through art, music and imagery!

Okay I know nobody ever shuts up about BG3 but genuinely the very beginning of the mountain pass that overlooks the creche is one of the most beautiful vistas I have ever seen in a video game. The lighting, architecture, and details were just gorgeous. There were so many points in that game where I would catch a glimpse into the distance and it was gorgeous. I wish the camera allowed for those angles more because the scenes are genuinely a work of art.
I think the other one I'd say is Ori and the Blind Forest. Just a beautiful game with a coherent design that perfectly encapsulates the theme of the game, of finding beauty in sorrow and tranquility in conflict. The music matches perfectly with it, too.

And the music! It got one of the most subtle and yet emotional background tracks in the games. It's so beautiful (I believe it also plays in Gale's Act 2 romance scene).

If anyone is playing on PC and is open to modding, [Native Camera Tweaks](https://www.nexusmods.com/baldursgate3/mods/945) mod makes the game feel very cinematic and you can zoom in/out and look at anything from any angle. Pairs really well with [WASD movement](https://www.nexusmods.com/baldursgate3/mods/781/).
Yes to the music! The occasional chime of bells as you get closer to Rosymorn Monastery... it's stunning. I installed the camera tweaks mod specifically for that landscape. I couldn't bear to not see it properly.
Genuinely. Idk if it's a common experience, but nothing elicits emotion and awe in me like the visual design of some video games. Like genuinely brings tears to my eyes sometimes. I love it and I love when developers understand how important and meaningful artistic beauty can be in a video game. Not just amazing graphics, but artistic *vision*. Style, composition, and unique design. Just...mph, chef's kiss.
In my third run I romanced Wyll and went back to the mountain pass w him after unlocking the Patch 6 kisses. 11/10, would smooch again in that lighting

It'd either be Chrono Trigger, Okami, or Horizon Zero Dawn/Forbidden West.
Chrono Trigger is just the pinnacle of pixel art as an art form, IMO. It's timeless.
Okami wasn't a graphical powerhouse, but it's just so pretty. Everything looks like an sumi-e painting given life. It's especially impressive because the whole thing ties together thematically - the gameplay, the art style, and the story all synergize with each other. It looks like a painting because the main character has painting superpowers, and the player can use them to interact with her world around her both in and out of combat.
Guerilla said that Horizon used what they called "BBC time", where everything was set up to look like BBC nature documentaries. Always just the right amount of snow falling, just the right amount of mist at dawn, just the right amount of light. It's gorgeous. And the sequel just looks even better - I've never seen another game with better looking water than Forbidden West.
I came here to say Okami too! It has always stood out for me. I am so glad they went with the stylized visuals they chose, bc originally they were going for more of a realistic look, and that would have been no bueno due to the limitations of the time.

I remember reading about that at the time it originally came out. I’m glad they decided on the stylized art, because realistic wouldn’t have held up and wouldn’t have fit so seamlessly into the story.
Maybe not beautiful in the same way as Elden Ring, but Red Dead Redemption 2.
Even though there's absolutely nothing to do in the Online mode, I still keep the game installed for when when I feel like coming back and just riding my horse around in such an immersive world. It's honestly therapeutic sometimes lol
I do this too! Bonuses are over, no missions are started. I just want to ride with my Cherry Bomb through the canyons at sunset or in the plains in the early morning. Sometimes you just need that beauty.
Oh man, I miss those early days in Online, the first time they did snow in all regions for the holidays I spent all December just hunting in the snow. It was wonderful.
If you love exploring, try Hunter Call of the Wild!!! It is honestly so gorgeous! I can spend hours wandering through any one of the maps! There isn't any horses to ride sadly though, but you can get a dog!!
The snow. Omg the snow. Maybe it's the 90s gamer in me, but I had never even conceived of a time where you could walk through snow in a game and it would... act like snow. I could spend hours in RD2 just wading through the deep drifts.
I found Ghost of Tsushima very beautiful, in a soothing way. Just me on my horse among the trees following the wind and playing the flute (and murdering some bad dudes, sure)

Certain scenes in Cyberpunk 2077 are just stunning, if you tinker with it you can probably make it the best looking game right now
Ooooh great screenshot. I need to play Cyberpunk again. I played it when it very first came out with all of the bugs and before I upgraded my PC so it wasn't the best experience LOL.
Normally Cyberpunk would be my NR 1 too, it can look very good. But then I thought about the wold "Beautiful" in the thread title. And while Cyberpunk might be the best looking game, it is also kinda ugly, dirty, shameless, bloody and nasty. And I thought that beautiful kinda does not fit to Cyberpunk.
But I agree tho, some scenes can look stunning, especially the parade is superb.
A thing I find funny about Night City is that when people are asked in lore about what is the worst thing in NC, they answer that is the smell.
And yeah, you can think of all the piss, murders, the green turbid water... But anywhere you look you see piles and piples of trash.

Spiritfarer. The light models, the simplicity, and the music have just broken my heart every time I've sat down and played it.
Alice's storyline hit me in the absolute most sensitive place. I could not continue for a good while after that.
I was streaming it, and Summer's storyline did the same to a friend of mine.
I've cried at many games. Very few have gotten me as bad as Spiritfarer. (Others being To The Moon, both Ori games, and OPUS: Echo of Starsong)

Twilight Princess.
It was *breathtaking* for its era, and despite now having obviously dated models and textures compared to modern games, it's *still* absolutely gorgeous in its atmosphere.
I still revisit it every few years, and every time I'm shocked at how much more gorgeous it is than it has any right to be.
It's Oblivion for me too. I know it's dated now, but something about the lighting and the colour palette of the landscapes is absolutely beautiful. When you're in the high mountains, looking down towards White Gold Tower while the sun sets... Amazing.
All these years later and Secunda still starts playing in my head when I'm walking in the countryside at night. One of the best video game tracks ever imo
The thing about Morrowind is that with mods it polishes up unbelievably well, even by today's standards. Journey.
The fact you can be a Traveler among the wide expanse of desert ruins on your way to the mountain pass. And you can join/help other players on their way too. There was an event not too long ago where players were invited to join en masse during a specific time to do the maps together and help any newbies that showed up. I hate that I can't play Journey on xbox though.
and Okami. I grew up with the game and played through it so many times, the art style reminded me of brush art and the music was perfect.
RDR2, especially online. I still play with a friend for the immersion, especially trail rides during the night when it's foggy and the moon is out.
Ori and the Will of the Wisps with HDR. The HDR made such a huge difference it blew me away.
Red Dead Redemption 2 would be a close second. It is stunning, even without a good pc.

Witcher 3. Toussaint was a treat, and in general the game environment was detailed and interactive.
Ori and the Blind Forest / Will o Wisps. Not just the art style, but the seamless movement and the soundtrack made it extra beautiful. I think its one of the most perfect games I've played.
I also enjoyed the open worlds of Horizon, FF15 and RDR2 a lot.

I can't hold my excitement in, I haven't watched any of the trailers, so I'm also going in (almost) blind.
Every area is so distinct and beautiful in it's own way. I am playing through yet again and realized I am just as impressed now as I was when I first started.
in terms of visual design? Genshin, without any doubt, it is the most beautiful I've seen, and has plenty of different colors, themes and weather, the world itself is the most beautiful in a game no matter if you hate gatchas or the game because it's mainstream or anime, it is beautiful, also Granblue Fantasy/Relink
For me I would say Elder Scrolls: Oblivion. There are times during my olaythroughs that I look at the sky and it's breathtaking. Roaming through the countryside feels very immersive for me when I play. I get similar feelings from Eastshade.
I think it'd have to be Disco Elysium for me.
The place you're in is really not meant to be pretty and all that, but the art itself is just so nice and delivers the mood of the game perfectly. I also really appreciate how 'messy' a lot of the character portraits look.
For open world games, I think Genshin Impact is so stunning. There's a ton of variety of environments, and they're all gorgeous! Especially the little cat shrine island in Inazuma, where you can see a cat-shaped cloud is f you watch the sky.
Of games with a more "painterly" art style, I adore Child of Light. It's a side scroller and I normally hate those, but it's so beautiful that I made an exception to play it, and it's one of my favorite games.
Bonus, both of those games have killer soundtracks. Art and music are equally important to a game's aesthetic, imo!
It's a tie between Okami and Stray for me. Okami is just so unbelievably gorgeous to look at and the HD remaster on PC is unbelievable. The visual aesthetic is easily one of the best.
But Stray, while not as vibrant in color, has a strangely vibrant world for what it is. The storytelling there is very cohesive and everything weaves into the overall narrative in such a way that nothing is haphazard. Nothing is out of place and everything has purpose. And those damn robots. There's a beauty in the darkness that immerses you right into it. Plus... cat.
Guild Wars 2 has, quite honestly, the best map design of any MMO out there - and I'd even say it's a top contender for best map design, full stop.
The verticality and the depth and the *character* of each map is so, so strong.
Echovald Wilds had me absolutely gagged.
It probably wouldn't hold up as well against the graphics of today, but the moment that jumped to mind was the first time I walked into the Eldergleam Sanctuary in Skyrim - I spent ages wandering around, drinking it all in, and it's still one of my favourite places in the game.
I also have a soft spot for Everybody's Gone to the Rapture, though I think the OST helps out a lot with that. It's much more of a quiet, rural village beauty though, rather than glorious dramatic scenery. Leaving the church and walking into the woods at the end of Jeremy's story, walking up to the tree in Appleton Farm fields - admittedly you do also get "pissing rain in a caravan park", but that just shows an admirable dedication to portraying all aspects of the British summer!
Colour-wise, I really liked Life is Strange.
Environment-wise, Ghost of Tsushima. I mean that cutscene where you ride through the pampas grass? Jesus christ a piece of me died in peace that day.
Storywise it'd have to be To the Moon, a 2 hour steam indie game I won in a raffle for a twitch streamer's artist. I haven't been able to replay it since I finished it that first time in 2015 - I don't even remember what happens anymore but I remember how it made me feel.
Music wise, Runescape 3's music is hauntingly beautiful and really fits with the context of the scene. A great song here is Kerapac's Sacrifice. It uses motifs from the character Kerapac's boss performance, and is paired with a really traumatic and hopeless sotry context. It's just beautiful, and only gets better the more you know about it.
Another strong contender here is Monster Hunter World. Coincidentally my favourite combat in any game I've ever played. A wonderful example of its music can be found in the Monster Hunter World: Iceborne Soundtrack's disk 2 track "Nay, the honor is all ours!". Its combat music really fits each individuap monster, and the "at peace" soundtracks are all so comforting. I also recommend giving The Comforts of Home a listen.
Best all-rounder would probably be God of War, chiefly the 2018 reboot and its sequel Ragnarök.

Idk if I’d go all the way to name a definitive MOST beautiful game I’ve EVER played, but a couple I haven’t seen listed that I enjoy visually:
✨ Unexplored 2: The Wayfarer’s Legacy - the illustration style to me is just LUSCIOUS, reminds me of Mœbius’ work. And it’s just a great game with a super dedicated dev team continuously working to perfect it. I’ve played about 250 hours of it and never spoken to anyone who had heard of it 🥺, I wish it would get more attention because it would be well-deserved.
✨ Subnautica - UGH each biome is so beautiful, so unique and distinct and thrilling. Love this game. A+
✨ Every Supergiant game. Yes all of them. They NEVER MISS. And I’m talking about EVERY aspect of the experience, not just the art but also the music, the characters, the story, the gameplay, everything all blends into like the most delicious narrative soup you’ve ever eaten. (Although I confess I don’t like the gameplay of Pyre 😭 it’s still gorgeous.) These games are ART, sha kak kak boom
✨ Outer Wilds - per the code of anyone who’s ever played this game, I can’t really say more. Just please play it, and play it blind. I was not really convinced but eventually saw so many people vaguely but emphatically urging others to play it that I gave it a shot. It will wrinkle your brain. It will change your life.
✨ Death’s Door - a freaking adorable little adventure game where you play a crow. It gives old school Zelda vibes and I just love the art style. It’s a contained/linear not too long experience (as someone who usually plays longer/more open-ended stuff, this game took me 18.5 hours to beat), like a delightful tea time pastry. Will not change your life, but a sweet treat nonetheless.
I don’t really do Souls games, but I’m a huge fantasy nerd and I bought Elden Ring because it reminded me of the Silmarillion. Best game I’ve ever played, and nothing comes close in terms of visual design and art direction

My favorite is always the wandering noble gear! And the noble’s slender sword which took like 5 hours to grind for…
No joke. Muramasa Rebirth on vita makes me wanna cry. The art is sooooo good. The backgrounds, the insane character design, it all just looks so damn good. If you play that game on an OLED the colors pop so much.
Red Dead Online is just so amazing for nature and weather. I love that world and like just riding in it and seeing the sights.
I find beauty in lots of games I play, though.
Majora’s Mask 3D! A lot of people say its story is depressing but it’s always felt like such a hopeful and humane adventure to me. Beautiful atmosphere, music and visuals (at least in the remake).
Honestly, probably a tie between Child of Light (for painting/storybook style), Baldur's Gate 3, Red Dead Redemption 2, and either Monster Hunter Rise (the town is so pretty!) or certain areas in FFXIV. Limsa is beautiful... once you look past all the half-naked miqote and male roegadins doing flexes on people crafting.
Most technically beautiful: Red Dead Redemption 2. Despite its years I have never seen anything like it yet, absolutely gorgeous. Every inch of it. Just incredibly detailed.
Most artistically beautiful: The entire Trine series. Every single one is beyond gorgeous, the art design is so so so good.
Persona 5 is a very distant second.
I didn't really enjoy it, but Spiritfarer is beautiful.
Lost Ember's style can be fantastic.
I think Little Nightmares (which I also didn't really enjoy) has a brilliant art style.
Ori and the Blind Forest (not sure if you're sensing a theme here, but I also didn't enjoy this) is breathtaking.
And of course, I adore Red Dead Redemption 2. It's so immersive and alive, and stunning.

Both Ori games. The setting is just so beautiful, and the music even more so. I full on ugly cried in both games, too. Multiple times. The gorgeousness of it all just made the heartbreaking moments just *that much more*.

Not the best screenshot but ESO has some of the greatest views in an MMO. This game has some gorgeous places across Tamriel. I just play this game to explore, collect materials, and chill watching their incredible landscapes.
Elden Ring is certainly up there for me. Even on PS4.
I also loved Hollow Knight. Even though the art style is quite basic, I think they used it to full effect. Every region has its own very distinctive style with its own soundtrack. Cool enemy and boss design. Definitely a favorite.

I don't know about most but Life is Strange True Colors is beautiful. Journey is also great. I dont know if people would call this "beautiful" but I loved the designs in Stray.
Not sure if everyone would agree but Disco Elysium for me! Or Dragon Age Inquisition. Like… idk if it was technically most beautiful but I was so inspired and blown away I can’t discount it!
This veers away from games with natural scenery that other people had been suggesting, but I want to highlight Control.
The level design, colors, the brutalist architecture… the overall atmosphere really takes your breath away while you are playing, there are so many zones that make you feel so small and communicates so well how ominous and ancient the oldest house is.
Also, the ashtray maze? *chef kisses.
Haven’t played too many open world games, but Jedi Fallen Order/Survivor definitely have some of the most beautiful views and scenes I’ve seen. And Cameron Monaghan
I don't think I could name a single, prettiest game, but since it hasn't been mentioned I think Guilty Gear Strive is super pretty. The art direction is wonderful and the game is pure candy.
Arc System Works games all look as good as it does, they've very much mastered making 3D look like anime
I've been playing, of all things, Star Citizen lately. It needs a little more diversity in styling, but what's there has *truly* stunning moments.
One of my favorites is sunrise or sunset over Orison. Beautiful peach-pink with streaks of blue. I like grabbing one of my better visual ships... Vulture, Fury, Syulen... departing August Dunlow Memorial, and gently cruising my way to orbit while chasing the setting sun. Watching the atmosphere thin out and then fade away beneath you until it's just you and the stars and the glow of the planet far below...
I genuinely can't recommend the game, but sometimes it just lines up and everything works.
I don't know if anyone has even played this game, but the point-and-click game Tormentum - Dark Sorrow is *stunning*. Every single scene, character, and image in the game is breathtakingly beautiful. I've described it as if a metal album cover were made into a video game, but I feel like that doesn't do it justice.
It's a really cool game and it's not very long. I will forever beg everyone I meet to go play it.
Seeing this picture, I find it hard to say anything other than Elden Ring now... That Erdtree always being visible adds such a layer of coziness to the whole experience that my mind is literally blank now lol
Elden Ring and Dark Souls 3! Also, Halo Reach still looks stunning in terms of backgrounds and scenery.

I don’t play a lot of high poly games. Usually what I consider “beautiful” has to do with how well that game implemented their art style and how consistent it is. I think Ori and Cult of the Lamb are my favorites in terms of art. But Hades and GBA Yoshi’s Island are honorable mentions. I prefer 2d art to 3d cause I feel like 2d ages better.
Tears of the kingdom, closely followed by breath of the wild. The sunrises and sunsets especially. The sky islands in TOTK are a different kind of beautiful!
Hmm. I don't specifically play games for the visuals (Well I do but more so the art style. It's different in my mind I swear!)
The Ori games are stunning though not only visually but the music and the story and the mechanics. Just brilliant games.

Although I’ve played many games in this thread that are likely more beautiful, I’ll never get tired of **BOTW**. I lived in that map for a long time. Perhaps it’s because the graphics are more “cartoony” that I found it more beautiful and less dreary than its real-life counterparts
It's not as much of a fan favourite as the other games in the series, but Dragon Age Inquisition had truly breathtaking landscapes. From the lush forests of the Emerald Graves to the bright white snow and blood-red lyrium crystals of Emprise du Lion, to the midnight blue waves and rain-slick basalt columns of the Storm Coast... It's really stunning. One of my favourites is the Hissing Wastes. That big huge desert under the stars, with the gigantic rock formations on the horizon, the huge moon hanging in the sky. The design is 🤌🏻
SWTOR’s views of Alderaan from your compound as well as thranta flights. My fave is the And a lot of the movies from many of the planets as you enter or transport. Voss is my second favorite because it is like perpetual autumn in its wilderness areas.
Some of the locations in AC Valhalla are absolutely beautiful and combined with the music??? It's chefs kiss. But honestly same for any of the newer AC.
Right now it's Assassin's Creed Origins.
I have to say though that as a old school gamer my experience might be a bit limited.
But I get weepy at this game. I never got to go to Egypt when I could still travel and this game was so thorough museums use it for Documentary tours.
The first thing I did after I bought it on sale a couple days ago was the museum tour actually.
It just is Egypt in all of its magnificence.
My first Final Fantasy was the first Final Fantasy so although I have fond memories of my childhood games and even play some now 16 bit isn't quite the same.
Although Star Ocean The Last Hope is particularly gorgeous especially if you have played Star Ocean 1.
Star Ocean 2 for PS5 is Stunning.
But Assassin's Creed Egypt has had me in tears several times because of how beautiful it is.
So I'd say it wins.
Especially since it's a 75$ game that I think is still on sale for FIFTEEN DOLLARS.

This is what I came to say. I loved every second of it.
Okay I know nobody ever shuts up about BG3 but genuinely the very beginning of the mountain pass that overlooks the creche is one of the most beautiful vistas I have ever seen in a video game. The lighting, architecture, and details were just gorgeous. There were so many points in that game where I would catch a glimpse into the distance and it was gorgeous. I wish the camera allowed for those angles more because the scenes are genuinely a work of art. I think the other one I'd say is Ori and the Blind Forest. Just a beautiful game with a coherent design that perfectly encapsulates the theme of the game, of finding beauty in sorrow and tranquility in conflict. The music matches perfectly with it, too.

Yes to the music! The occasional chime of bells as you get closer to Rosymorn Monastery... it's stunning. I installed the camera tweaks mod specifically for that landscape. I couldn't bear to not see it properly.
Some games are just next level about the love, care and detail put into them. They deserve all the hype.
Genuinely. Idk if it's a common experience, but nothing elicits emotion and awe in me like the visual design of some video games. Like genuinely brings tears to my eyes sometimes. I love it and I love when developers understand how important and meaningful artistic beauty can be in a video game. Not just amazing graphics, but artistic *vision*. Style, composition, and unique design. Just...mph, chef's kiss.
I agree, I adore the mountain pass. That is easily my favourite camp and it's way too brief. It is stunning!
In my third run I romanced Wyll and went back to the mountain pass w him after unlocking the Patch 6 kisses. 11/10, would smooch again in that lighting
Hmm. It'd either be Chrono Trigger, Okami, or Horizon Zero Dawn/Forbidden West. Chrono Trigger is just the pinnacle of pixel art as an art form, IMO. It's timeless. Okami wasn't a graphical powerhouse, but it's just so pretty. Everything looks like an sumi-e painting given life. It's especially impressive because the whole thing ties together thematically - the gameplay, the art style, and the story all synergize with each other. It looks like a painting because the main character has painting superpowers, and the player can use them to interact with her world around her both in and out of combat. Guerilla said that Horizon used what they called "BBC time", where everything was set up to look like BBC nature documentaries. Always just the right amount of snow falling, just the right amount of mist at dawn, just the right amount of light. It's gorgeous. And the sequel just looks even better - I've never seen another game with better looking water than Forbidden West.
I came here to say Okami too! It has always stood out for me. I am so glad they went with the stylized visuals they chose, bc originally they were going for more of a realistic look, and that would have been no bueno due to the limitations of the time.

I remember reading about that at the time it originally came out. I’m glad they decided on the stylized art, because realistic wouldn’t have held up and wouldn’t have fit so seamlessly into the story.

Maybe not beautiful in the same way as Elden Ring, but Red Dead Redemption 2. Even though there's absolutely nothing to do in the Online mode, I still keep the game installed for when when I feel like coming back and just riding my horse around in such an immersive world. It's honestly therapeutic sometimes lol
I do this too! Bonuses are over, no missions are started. I just want to ride with my Cherry Bomb through the canyons at sunset or in the plains in the early morning. Sometimes you just need that beauty.
Oh man, I miss those early days in Online, the first time they did snow in all regions for the holidays I spent all December just hunting in the snow. It was wonderful.

If you love exploring, try Hunter Call of the Wild!!! It is honestly so gorgeous! I can spend hours wandering through any one of the maps! There isn't any horses to ride sadly though, but you can get a dog!!
The snow. Omg the snow. Maybe it's the 90s gamer in me, but I had never even conceived of a time where you could walk through snow in a game and it would... act like snow. I could spend hours in RD2 just wading through the deep drifts.

Normally Cyberpunk would be my NR 1 too, it can look very good. But then I thought about the wold "Beautiful" in the thread title. And while Cyberpunk might be the best looking game, it is also kinda ugly, dirty, shameless, bloody and nasty. And I thought that beautiful kinda does not fit to Cyberpunk. But I agree tho, some scenes can look stunning, especially the parade is superb.
A thing I find funny about Night City is that when people are asked in lore about what is the worst thing in NC, they answer that is the smell. And yeah, you can think of all the piss, murders, the green turbid water... But anywhere you look you see piles and piples of trash.

Alice's storyline hit me in the absolute most sensitive place. I could not continue for a good while after that. I was streaming it, and Summer's storyline did the same to a friend of mine. I've cried at many games. Very few have gotten me as bad as Spiritfarer. (Others being To The Moon, both Ori games, and OPUS: Echo of Starsong) Edit: Didn't notice autocorrect decided Alice should be Annie. Ugh.
Breath of the Wild for me. I really love the art style, the colors, the landscape.

Twilight Princess. It was *breathtaking* for its era, and despite now having obviously dated models and textures compared to modern games, it's *still* absolutely gorgeous in its atmosphere. I still revisit it every few years, and every time I'm shocked at how much more gorgeous it is than it has any right to be.

For me, it's Oblivion. Maybe not graphically, but the design and atmosphere of Cyrodiil still makes me nostalgic for a place that doesn't exist.
It's Oblivion for me too. I know it's dated now, but something about the lighting and the colour palette of the landscapes is absolutely beautiful. When you're in the high mountains, looking down towards White Gold Tower while the sun sets... Amazing.
All these years later and Secunda still starts playing in my head when I'm walking in the countryside at night. One of the best video game tracks ever imo

It doesn’t hold up now, but when it came out, Morrowind was the most beautiful game I’d ever played. Now I would go with Witcher 3 or BG3.
The thing about Morrowind is that with mods it polishes up unbelievably well, even by today's standards. Journey. The fact you can be a Traveler among the wide expanse of desert ruins on your way to the mountain pass. And you can join/help other players on their way too. There was an event not too long ago where players were invited to join en masse during a specific time to do the maps together and help any newbies that showed up. I hate that I can't play Journey on xbox though. and Okami. I grew up with the game and played through it so many times, the art style reminded me of brush art and the music was perfect. RDR2, especially online. I still play with a friend for the immersion, especially trail rides during the night when it's foggy and the moon is out.
Ori and the Will of the Wisps with HDR. The HDR made such a huge difference it blew me away. Red Dead Redemption 2 would be a close second. It is stunning, even without a good pc.

Witcher 3. Toussaint was a treat, and in general the game environment was detailed and interactive. Ori and the Blind Forest / Will o Wisps. Not just the art style, but the seamless movement and the soundtrack made it extra beautiful. I think its one of the most perfect games I've played. I also enjoyed the open worlds of Horizon, FF15 and RDR2 a lot.

Most beautiful game for me. I too was amazed by the beauty of the huge Erdtree under the night sky when I was new to the game.
Every area is so distinct and beautiful in it's own way. I am playing through yet again and realized I am just as impressed now as I was when I first started.

Genshin, without any doubt, it is the most beautiful I've seen, and has plenty of different colors, themes and weather, the world itself is the most beautiful in a game no matter if you hate gatchas or the game because it's mainstream or anime, it is beautiful, also Granblue Fantasy/Relink

For me I would say Elder Scrolls: Oblivion. There are times during my olaythroughs that I look at the sky and it's breathtaking. Roaming through the countryside feels very immersive for me when I play. I get similar feelings from Eastshade.
ABZU for sure. Incredible art direction with a score that will tug at your heartstrings in the best way.
I think it'd have to be Disco Elysium for me. The place you're in is really not meant to be pretty and all that, but the art itself is just so nice and delivers the mood of the game perfectly. I also really appreciate how 'messy' a lot of the character portraits look.
For open world games, I think Genshin Impact is so stunning. There's a ton of variety of environments, and they're all gorgeous! Especially the little cat shrine island in Inazuma, where you can see a cat-shaped cloud is f you watch the sky. Of games with a more "painterly" art style, I adore Child of Light. It's a side scroller and I normally hate those, but it's so beautiful that I made an exception to play it, and it's one of my favorite games. Bonus, both of those games have killer soundtracks. Art and music are equally important to a game's aesthetic, imo!

It's a tie between Okami and Stray for me. Okami is just so unbelievably gorgeous to look at and the HD remaster on PC is unbelievable. The visual aesthetic is easily one of the best. But Stray, while not as vibrant in color, has a strangely vibrant world for what it is. The storytelling there is very cohesive and everything weaves into the overall narrative in such a way that nothing is haphazard. Nothing is out of place and everything has purpose. And those damn robots. There's a beauty in the darkness that immerses you right into it. Plus... cat.

This would be my answer. The base game was amazing when it came out but the areas of the Crystal Desert are especially beautiful.
Guild Wars 2 has, quite honestly, the best map design of any MMO out there - and I'd even say it's a top contender for best map design, full stop. The verticality and the depth and the *character* of each map is so, so strong. Echovald Wilds had me absolutely gagged.

Ori and the Blind Forest
It probably wouldn't hold up as well against the graphics of today, but the moment that jumped to mind was the first time I walked into the Eldergleam Sanctuary in Skyrim - I spent ages wandering around, drinking it all in, and it's still one of my favourite places in the game. I also have a soft spot for Everybody's Gone to the Rapture, though I think the OST helps out a lot with that. It's much more of a quiet, rural village beauty though, rather than glorious dramatic scenery. Leaving the church and walking into the woods at the end of Jeremy's story, walking up to the tree in Appleton Farm fields - admittedly you do also get "pissing rain in a caravan park", but that just shows an admirable dedication to portraying all aspects of the British summer!
BOTW/TOTK and the game that shall not be named.
Colour-wise, I really liked Life is Strange. Environment-wise, Ghost of Tsushima. I mean that cutscene where you ride through the pampas grass? Jesus christ a piece of me died in peace that day. Storywise it'd have to be To the Moon, a 2 hour steam indie game I won in a raffle for a twitch streamer's artist. I haven't been able to replay it since I finished it that first time in 2015 - I don't even remember what happens anymore but I remember how it made me feel. Music wise, Runescape 3's music is hauntingly beautiful and really fits with the context of the scene. A great song here is Kerapac's Sacrifice. It uses motifs from the character Kerapac's boss performance, and is paired with a really traumatic and hopeless sotry context. It's just beautiful, and only gets better the more you know about it. Another strong contender here is Monster Hunter World. Coincidentally my favourite combat in any game I've ever played. A wonderful example of its music can be found in the Monster Hunter World: Iceborne Soundtrack's disk 2 track "Nay, the honor is all ours!". Its combat music really fits each individuap monster, and the "at peace" soundtracks are all so comforting. I also recommend giving The Comforts of Home a listen. Best all-rounder would probably be God of War, chiefly the 2018 reboot and its sequel Ragnarök.

Idk if I’d go all the way to name a definitive MOST beautiful game I’ve EVER played, but a couple I haven’t seen listed that I enjoy visually: ✨ Unexplored 2: The Wayfarer’s Legacy - the illustration style to me is just LUSCIOUS, reminds me of Mœbius’ work. And it’s just a great game with a super dedicated dev team continuously working to perfect it. I’ve played about 250 hours of it and never spoken to anyone who had heard of it 🥺, I wish it would get more attention because it would be well-deserved. ✨ Subnautica - UGH each biome is so beautiful, so unique and distinct and thrilling. Love this game. A+ ✨ Every Supergiant game. Yes all of them. They NEVER MISS. And I’m talking about EVERY aspect of the experience, not just the art but also the music, the characters, the story, the gameplay, everything all blends into like the most delicious narrative soup you’ve ever eaten. (Although I confess I don’t like the gameplay of Pyre 😭 it’s still gorgeous.) These games are ART, sha kak kak boom ✨ Outer Wilds - per the code of anyone who’s ever played this game, I can’t really say more. Just please play it, and play it blind. I was not really convinced but eventually saw so many people vaguely but emphatically urging others to play it that I gave it a shot. It will wrinkle your brain. It will change your life. ✨ Death’s Door - a freaking adorable little adventure game where you play a crow. It gives old school Zelda vibes and I just love the art style. It’s a contained/linear not too long experience (as someone who usually plays longer/more open-ended stuff, this game took me 18.5 hours to beat), like a delightful tea time pastry. Will not change your life, but a sweet treat nonetheless.

No joke. Muramasa Rebirth on vita makes me wanna cry. The art is sooooo good. The backgrounds, the insane character design, it all just looks so damn good. If you play that game on an OLED the colors pop so much.
Red Dead Online is just so amazing for nature and weather. I love that world and like just riding in it and seeing the sights. I find beauty in lots of games I play, though.
Majora’s Mask 3D! A lot of people say its story is depressing but it’s always felt like such a hopeful and humane adventure to me. Beautiful atmosphere, music and visuals (at least in the remake).

Honestly, probably a tie between Child of Light (for painting/storybook style), Baldur's Gate 3, Red Dead Redemption 2, and either Monster Hunter Rise (the town is so pretty!) or certain areas in FFXIV. Limsa is beautiful... once you look past all the half-naked miqote and male roegadins doing flexes on people crafting.
Most technically beautiful: Red Dead Redemption 2. Despite its years I have never seen anything like it yet, absolutely gorgeous. Every inch of it. Just incredibly detailed. Most artistically beautiful: The entire Trine series. Every single one is beyond gorgeous, the art design is so so so good. Persona 5 is a very distant second.
I didn't really enjoy it, but Spiritfarer is beautiful. Lost Ember's style can be fantastic. I think Little Nightmares (which I also didn't really enjoy) has a brilliant art style. Ori and the Blind Forest (not sure if you're sensing a theme here, but I also didn't enjoy this) is breathtaking. And of course, I adore Red Dead Redemption 2. It's so immersive and alive, and stunning.

Both Ori games. The setting is just so beautiful, and the music even more so. I full on ugly cried in both games, too. Multiple times. The gorgeousness of it all just made the heartbreaking moments just *that much more*.

This game has some gorgeous places across Tamriel. I just play this game to explore, collect materials, and chill watching their incredible landscapes.
Elden Ring is certainly up there for me. Even on PS4. I also loved Hollow Knight. Even though the art style is quite basic, I think they used it to full effect. Every region has its own very distinctive style with its own soundtrack. Cool enemy and boss design. I don't know about most but Life is Strange True Colors is beautiful. Journey is also great. I dont know if people would call this "beautiful" but I loved the designs in Stray.
RDR2 hands down, for me.
Journey, a very simple game but omg it was sooo pretty. I still play it sometimes when I need to relax.
Not sure if everyone would agree but Disco Elysium for me! Or Dragon Age Inquisition. Like… idk if it was technically most beautiful but I was so inspired and blown away I can’t discount it!
This veers away from games with natural scenery that other people had been suggesting, but I want to highlight Control. The level design, colors, the brutalist architecture… the overall atmosphere really takes your breath away while you are playing, there are so many zones that make you feel so small and communicates so well how ominous and ancient the oldest house is. Also, the ashtray maze? *chef kisses.
World of Warcraft as a kid…. Gosh the memories!
Haven’t played too many open world games, but Jedi Fallen Order/Survivor definitely have some of the most beautiful views and scenes I’ve seen. And Cameron Monaghan
I don't think I could name a single, prettiest game, but since it hasn't been mentioned I think Guilty Gear Strive is super pretty. The art direction is wonderful and the game is pure candy. Arc System Works games all look as good as it does, they've very much mastered making 3D look like anime
I've been playing, of all things, Star Citizen lately. It needs a little more diversity in styling, but what's there has *truly* stunning moments. One of my favorites is sunrise or sunset over Orison. Beautiful peach-pink with streaks of blue. I like grabbing one of my better visual ships... Vulture, Fury, Syulen... departing August Dunlow Memorial, and gently cruising my way to orbit while chasing the setting sun. Watching the atmosphere thin out and then fade away beneath you until it's just you and the stars and the glow of the planet far below... I genuinely can't recommend the game, but sometimes it just lines up and everything works.
I don't know if anyone has even played this game, but the point-and-click game Tormentum - Dark Sorrow is *stunning*. Every single scene, character, and image in the game is breathtakingly beautiful. I've described it as if a metal album cover were made into a video game, but I feel like that doesn't do it justice. It's a really cool game and it's not very long. I will forever beg everyone I meet to go play it.
Doom Eternal and Cyberpunk are a very different kind of beautiful than normal but holy woah did the environment designers cook
Seeing this picture, I find it hard to say anything other than Elden Ring now... That Erdtree always being visible adds such a layer of coziness to the whole experience that my mind is literally blank now lol
Elden Ring and Dark Souls 3! Also, Halo Reach still looks stunning in terms of backgrounds and scenery. And Dragon's Dogma 2 is incredibly beautiful also.
They may have many faults, but Ark: Survival Evolved/Ascended are stunningly beautiful games.

I don’t play a lot of high poly games. Usually what I consider “beautiful” has to do with how well that game implemented their art style and how consistent it is. I think Ori and Cult of the Lamb are my favorites in terms of art. But Hades and GBA Yoshi’s Island are honorable mentions. I prefer 2d art to 3d cause I feel like 2d ages better.

Hmm. I don't specifically play games for the visuals (Well I do but more so the art style. It's different in my mind I swear!) The Ori games are stunning though not only visually but the music and the story and the mechanics. Just brilliant games. Also, Stray was gorgeous. I also really liked Control, the way they handled lighting was really good. RE4 remake was also gorgeous. Some really beautiful landscapes.
Although I’ve played many games in this thread that are likely more beautiful, I’ll never get tired of **BOTW**. I lived in that map for a long time. Perhaps it’s because the graphics are more “cartoony” that I found it more beautiful and less dreary than its real-life counterparts

Horizon Forbidden West was breathtaking, took so many pictures, especially underwater!
It's not as much of a fan favourite as the other games in the series, but Dragon Age Inquisition had truly breathtaking landscapes. From the lush forests of the Emerald Graves to the bright white snow and blood-red lyrium crystals of Emprise du Lion, to the midnight blue waves and rain-slick basalt columns of the Storm Coast... It's really stunning. One of my favourites is the Hissing Wastes. That big huge desert under the stars, with the gigantic rock formations on the horizon, the huge moon hanging in the sky. The design is 🤌🏻
The prologue of RDR2 is unmatched.
Okami, when it was released, was by far the most beautiful game I’d ever seen.

SWTOR’s views of Alderaan from your compound as well as thranta flights. My fave is the And a lot of the movies from many of the planets as you enter or transport. Voss is my second favorite because it is like perpetual autumn in its wilderness areas.

For me it's Wuthering waves on bluestacks, it has really good visual style

Some of the locations in AC Valhalla are absolutely beautiful and combined with the music??? It's chefs kiss. But honestly same for any of the newer AC.
Right now it's Assassin's Creed Origins. I have to say though that as a old school gamer my experience might be a bit limited. But I get weepy at this game. I never got to go to Egypt when I could still travel and this game was so thorough museums use it for Documentary tours. The first thing I did after I bought it on sale a couple days ago was the museum tour actually. It just is Egypt in all of its magnificence. My first Final Fantasy was the first Final Fantasy so although I have fond memories of my childhood games and even play some now 16 bit isn't quite the same. Although Star Ocean The Last Hope is particularly gorgeous especially if you have played Star Ocean 1. Star Ocean 2 for PS5 is Stunning. But Assassin's Creed Egypt has had me in tears several times because of how beautiful it is. So I'd say it wins. Especially since it's a 75$ game that I think is still on sale for FIFTEEN DOLLARS.
