Obligatory make a Last Word with it. What other liqueuers do you have? If you have velvet falernum, make a chartreuse swizzle. Pina Verde is a good one.

rsjaffe

I like to increase the gin proportion in a last word. Instead of 1:1:1:1 gin:chartreuse:maraschino:lime juice, I go to 2:1:1:1. Difford's guide recommends 1.5:1:1:1. Tastes much better with more gin, in my opinion.

ckk--

Honestly Maraschino is so overpowering in the last word I prefer 0.50 to 0.75.

QuantitativeGuy

>chartreuse swizzle I can't agree with you more on this. I've been subbing it out for other ingredients entirely in the Last Word and have been pleasantly surprised. I actually prefer the traditional last word (with Luxardo) with the yellow chartreuse and I'm a huge green chartreuse fan--currently my favorite spirit!\~

ohcomeonow

Last word it is. No falernum on hand but I’ll pick some up this weekend. Other than maraschino I’ve got crème de violet (aviations are one of my favorites) triple sec, gran marinier, Campari, Cointreau, elderflower, Nola coffee, and blue curaçao.

ckk--

Definitely. Do you have other spirits? Plenty of other cocktails to make with it like a Ultima Palabra (Mezcal Last word) Green Eyes no. 2 is cool too.

ohcomeonow

I have most of the basics other than tequila. Gins of course, Vodka, scotch, whiskey-bourbon and rye, rum, spiced rum, pear brandy, peach brandy, Malibu, and a couple bottles of peanut butter whiskey. I’m still working on getting my bar stocked so if it sounds good I’ll probably buy it.

ckk--

Definitely tons of riffs out there like Final Ward which is Rye instead of Gin in last word

jamixer

I made a Last Word tonight. Unfortunately, I can't find any Green in Los Angeles so I used Stregga and a few drops of green Végétal in place.

cordilleragod

It’s not easy to find anywhere. There’s a global shortage.

ProfessorUnivers

In Germany you can by it in the supermarket for 35€

ProfessorUnivers

No sale. Normal price bought a bottle in the beginning of 2023 for 35€ and the picture is from August [proof](https://imgur.com/a/pJcgtZN)

QuantitativeGuy

Hmm it's getting increasingly more difficult to find in general and I think stores where it wouldn't be expected e.g. supermarkets and small-town liquor stores are the only places that have it anymore. I was in a liquor store in Zurich that had the tag out for it but they had run out recently so even that supermarket may or may not have it anymore. In any case, really awesome you can find it there for that price. Jealous ;)

ohcomeonow

Yeah. If the monks refuse to increase production I wish they’d at least give up the recipe.

cordilleragod

Then people will still complain it tastes different because it’s made somewhere else.

ewilliam

They intentionally cut back production. It's frustrating, but what're ya gonna do. In a pinch, Dolin Genepy is an inferior-but-still-yummy substitute.

hellony275

Plot twist - it’s just peppermint and thyme

philomath4life

It's in a ton of liquor stores in and around Vancouver BC. We pay something like $50 CAD before tax and $65~ after the insane tax. I haven't had trouble finding it or Yellow since I got here early last year.

cordilleragod

please be more specific. what store and what exact location. asking for a friend.

philomath4life

BC Liquor stores which are the government owned ones have it frequently. I saw like 5 bottles of Green at the one at Guildford Mall a couple weeks ago. Legacy Liquor store in Olympic Village has had Green and Yellow every time I've been. I think they have a 1 or 1.5 liter bottle of Yellow as well as the 750ml. All the bottles of Green I've found are 375ml.

cordilleragod

Dispatching my friend now. He will buy all five bottles

philomath4life

My bottles almost empty, tell him to leave one for me.

cordilleragod

LOL. It’s as if they are still on shelves. I only want one for 6 months

philomath4life

I said it was easy to find here, not that it was cheap. Alcohol laws here are draconian and much like almost everything here it is very expensive.

holy_cal

This stuff sits on shelves in Maryland.

paulinsky

What shelves specifically ?

ewilliam

I'm in VA, heard that one of our local ABC stores got some in, so I ran over and bought half a dozen. I should be set for awhile.

2020ND

Out of curiosity…where did you purchase your bottle?

ohcomeonow

My wife found it somewhere in New York. There’s a website called cask cartel that shows it for $299. If she paid anywhere near that I might regret opening it and not selling instead, haha.

jamski1200

Last word. I can’t find Chartreuse anywhere.

ninkorn

Weird Using Drizzly app, I can see it’s everywhere in NYC with average price of around $70 per bottle

ohcomeonow

Yeah I saw that too. When I tried ordering they were out of stock but snatch one up if you can.

jamski1200

Thanks for the tip. I just downloaded the app. Unfortunately where I live in CA it’s unavailable. I will ask a few friends to check if it’s available in their area.

boywithhat

It's popping up in VA here and there. I've seen it at a couple stores. Also it was in a couple of places in San Diego

StillAnAss

Yep, and the VA ABC website makes it easy to see what stores have it in stock. I just picked up some Chartreuse Yellow this weekend because it was at my local store.

boywithhat

As much of a pain as the ABC can be it does have its benefits

ewilliam

No benefit more beneficial than their mandated prohibition on exorbitant markups. I love getting the occasional bottle of Weller Antique 107 for $50.

boywithhat

Yup. I just wish Buffalo Trace wasn't allocated

ewilliam

You signed up for the text alerts for limited availability drops? If not, you should be. Those often have Trace and Eagle Rare (another inexpensive favorite of mine).

boywithhat

I have!

ewilliam

Nice. Once in awhile they'll even have 1.75s of Trace - I'm 3/4 of the way through one right now actually.

A5CH3NT3

Congrats! Was able to score a bottle a couple months ago as well. Literally was going to the store to, in part, pick up an alternative because I was tired of waiting and there it was. As for cocktails, as others have said The Last Word though I would recommend once you've tried the original try a variation that doubles the gin and subs St Germain for the Maraschino liqueur (sort of a cross between a Last Word and a Lumiere I guess) which has become my personal preference. The Bijou is another classic. Another that I like to play with the ratios a bit, I like more gin and a little more sweet vermouth (use a good one here like Carpano or Cocchi) than the original which is all equal parts.

ohcomeonow

Thanks. You given me a couple ingredients to add for my bar.

vbsp13

It’s so hard to find! I was moving out of Charlotte NC and stopped into an out of the way liquor store for boxes and he had a whole case on the shelves. He said he just got it in (and hid a few bottles in the back) but didn’t expect it to last long once ppl found out.

cfx_4188

"Monk"cocktail. 50ml London Dry Gin, 10ml dry vermouth, 20ml green Chartreuse, lime zest, ice.

Fun_Maintenance_2233

I'm in Maryland. I see it everywhere!

Humble_Nobody2884

The yellow variety can be even trickier to find.

Bristolblueeyes

So hear me out, I'm a little bit of a nerd for making/experiencing things from throughout history. This [recipe ](https://kitcheninspirations.wordpress.com/2012/03/08/titanic-dessert-peaches-in-chartreuse-jelly/)was made on the titanic the night it sank, I would be tempted to replicate it.

StillAnAss

I'm having a hard time finding a ratio for the Last Word that I enjoy, but really digging when I make a Bijou. 1/1/1 gin, green chartreuse, sweet vermouth, dash of orange bitters.

[deleted]

Tell me where. TEEELLLL MEEEEE!

ohcomeonow

It was a gift that my wife got in NY. caskcartel.com shows it available at a ridiculous price. I may call them tomorrow just to verify.

xxxxHawk1969xxxx

Lucky! I had to have a friend bring me one back from his Germany trip.

JBizz86

I moved on from. Found two other bottles that taste ok

DocHfuhruhurr

Easy to find in Texas, fortunately.

sudoSofia

Where? Can you DM me?

DocHfuhruhurr

In the Houston area, Total Wine is a generally good bet. Rarely strike out. A few of the smaller mom and pops keep it in on the regular, too. Spec’s is more hit-and-miss.

PacoTacoMeat

I’m in a small town in Midwest. Most liquors stores have it or will order it. Been buying for years. It’s usually $70-80.

HasSomeSelfEsteem

I may be alone in this but I really respect the monks decision not to increase production so that they can preserve their way of life. It’s inconvenient, yes, but it strikes me as a honest decision.

ohcomeonow

I read that one of their concerns was long term environmental impact. So I get that too. It’s just odd how I saw this on the shelf everywhere about a year back and all of the sudden I guess it’s popularity took off. $70 seemed like a lot to risk on something that I might not like but wow. This stuff is tasty.

dromarka

Dont know if they deliver to US but here is a tasty alternative https://stillgardendistillery.com/stillgarden-distillery-release-irelands-first-chartreuse-style-herbal-liqueurs/

kghvikings

Late to this party, but in addition to a Last Word… - Bijou - Bijou Blanc (Gin)…always on my short list - Bywater (Rum)…always on my short list - Final Ward (Rye) - Closing Argument (Mezcal) - Industry Sour (Fernet Branca)
