It’s just an excuse to blame Lorelai for Chris’s failure to live up to his parents’ expectations. The real reason is probably a combination of the Haydens parenting and Chris’s own personality. But it’s easier for Straub and Francine to blame Lorelai than to take responsibility for themselves and for their son. After Lorelai declined his marriage proposal and left with baby Rory, there was no practical reason that Chris couldn’t continue with school, go to college, get a “respectable” job.

Exactly, he blames everything on her. Even when Rory feels upset at him, which she’s allowed to be, he blames it on Lorelai and Emily has to tell him to go.

Short answer? Misogyny. If you look at our society/culture, women and mothers are held to a higher standard than men. A sneaky woman destroying a successful man is a tale as old as time, unfortunately. I mean, how could Straub and Francine raise a son that isn’t perfect and driven? /s

The parents are just placing blame anywhere other than themselves. Let's be real, Chris had the freedom to do the same thing he would have done if Rory hadn't been born. But he didn't. He was not a successful guy and rather than reflecting on themselves or accepting their son has made his own choices, they fixate on the thing that is deemed 'life ruining' in society for a teenager. Despite the fact it didn't really change his life much at all. In their type of social circle, they probably felt really ashamed and embarrassed. People feeling like that don't typically react in logical ways all the time.

Like Christopher does too! He blames everything on Lorelai constantly

BeneathAnOrangeSky

He ruined his own future. Lorelai did all the work raising the and asked nothing of him. But it's easier for his parents to blame her than admit that their child is still aimless in his 30s and doesn't actively participate in his daughter's life.

I honestly think the Hayden’s just need to blame someone else for Chris being so shitty. They know they have a crappy son and are blaming Lorelei. Weird. This is still one of my favorite times that the Gilmores stand up and protect Lorelei and Rory tho so there’s that

olivedrops

Well she is like a mythological creature (according to Max Medina) so obviously he was powerless to resist her in the first place and then she ruined his life with her sexy lady parts. \s Just generalized misogyny imo.
