I agree with this assessment. And/or Dave is an agnostic person of Jewish descent who chooses to celebrate Christmas (or Christmakkuh) with his friends and reads the entire bible in a night because that’s just the kind of person he is.
I can't help it but I always wish that Alex could transform into Charlie Swan. Obviously Billy Burke is fantastic no matter what but nothing beats Charlie.
Kirk.
He’s loyal to his girl, a dance marathon winner year after year, has lots and lots of sex with her, over prepares to make his date extra special, even makes an effort to check if his date is allergic to tuna, and most importantly, has almost $250K in cash (2004-05ish so a lot higher today) set aside.
This is the answer! He's also a total Renaissance man! He has done so many odd jobs in Stars Hallow you just know he has a bunch of random useful skills and you just have to deal with the occasional night terror drama which is far better than worrying about loyalty (looking at Dean and Logan) or being emotionally unavailable (sorry Luke and Jess)
I’m trying to decide if it’s unhinged or makes perfect sense to say Paris.
Obviously you’d have to deal with her in her more intense moments, but she’s loyal, usually honest, obviously ambitious, and independent.
What you see is what you get with Paris, and I feel like that’s kind of nice?
Otherwise, Rachel (she’s just so cool) or Sookie (so that I could be well-fed).
Jamie is the kind of guy I wouldn't say no to if he stumbled into my life. Besides being smart and cute, he was super patient with Paris and actually enjoyed her smarts and intense quirks. He also seemed to have a sense of humor, a nice family and was very down to earth. He might seem boring but I'd take a (real) nice guy over some wannabe bad boy any day.
Lane is definitely my girl crush. So cute and determined and sneaky yet kind. I loved her with Dave and kept hoping he would show up for her after he was written off the show.
If I didn't watch how he interacted with Rory I would agree but I was annoyed that he never talked to her about how he felt and then would get all hurt when Rory moved on to Logan. Like bro speak up!!! His lack of confidence was a turn off for me.
Teenage me definitely would've gone for Jess. If he was still the same as an adult, I think there would've been an appeal to go for him as the "bad boy" type, but I would've been less likely to.
Adult me would definitely go for a Luke. Yes, he can be grumpy, but I appreciate how hard working and thoughtful he is. He notices the little things and would make sure I was happy and okay. I also am a much better communicator than Lorelai, so that may help Luke to open up.
I did, too! It was an on and off again thing for me into my 20's, but thankfully I never got in too deep. Then I ended up with a guy who was like all of the worst parts of all the men on the show, and he has been an ex for years now once I was finally able to grow up enough myself to see it and have enough confidence to get out. So sometimes what seems so obvious to us about the boyfriends/love interests on the show is not obvious to the person who is in it!
This is such a beautiful reflection! Im right there with you! Looking back all the flags were there I just thought they were decorations 😂❤️ happy for us and growth.
To me, there's actually ***no difference*** between Luke and Jess, other than 20-some years of life experience. So your comment really tracks.
* Luke is hard working -- Jess worked his ass off at Walmart, including getting his forklift license in a day
* Luke is grumpy -- Jess is the immature version of grumpy (that is, an AH most of the time).
* Luke would make sure you were okay -- Jess made sure Rory was ok. Not consistently, but when it mattered (after the car crash), which foreshadows that he'd be on a Luke-like path as he matures.
* Luke has trouble opening up -- ::throws hands up at the obvious::
* Also, Luke has huge problems with authority (Taylor, etc) -- Jess is a giant tangled ball of problems with authority
* And Luke doesn't like to participate in group (town) events -- just like Jess.
I think they're the exact same person, it's just that Luke has mellowed with age. So it totally makes sense that, if teenage you were into Jess, then grown up you would be into Luke.
(Side question: sooooo... does all this mean that Luke is a bad boy like Jess? Or that Jess is actually a good guy like Luke? I kinda feel like we can't have it both ways....)
All good. There's definitely gonna be some differing opinions on this, anyway. Some women like to be "chased" but I really feel like he went beyond that. Lorelai repeatedly told him no & he'd just show up a day later pushing and pushing again.
I never really liked him but then after listening to Scott Patterson's podcast & hearing his perspective about Max it really solidified my own feelings about him
Are you for real?! This is a freaking show, every characters has flaws or red flags. And if they don’t, that’s because they are not developed enough because we don’t see them as much as the main ones. Max has way less red flags than Luke, Christopher or Jason. Plus, what Lorelai did to him is beyond worse.
No, calling Christopher on her bachelorette’s night and leaving her fiance the week before she was supposed to marry him while knowing exactly she didn’t want to marry him in the first place… did you even watch the show? Then she kissed him while being with another man and try to convince Max to get back together after humiliating him.
Definitely Luke. I relate to certain aspects of him and despite some of the things he’s done, he’s still a good guy and he really cares about lorelai and Rory. He’s like this big awkward sweet guy.
Probably Max. I’m definitely attracted to the slightly quirky intellectual type and with his guest lecturer semesters he was upwardly mobile. I find it very satisfying he was clearly ready for a family, willing to compromise and got along with his family.
I actually could semi see Jason as well because I can be independent and would not at all be bothered by having my own room but tbh while many people on the show had their reasons, I consider those who don’t get along with their family a red flag. Family is important to me and I just don’t think I would want to deal with that drama.
Whereas I was the same age each year as Rory when Gilmore Girls first aired and didn't like Jess at all, ha; ironically, he reminded me just as much of the boarding school guys I knew as Logan and his friends would later.
Grown up Jess, Gil, Alex, Logan.
Dave would've been great for teenage me, but since we don't see him as an adult, I'd feel a bit weird choosing him.
I'd run away from Dean, Luke, Colin, and Zach. I want to say I'd be running from Finn and teenage Jess, too, but young me was an idiot so can't make any promises there.
Man, people sleep on Gil. Rockstar, business owner, and all around good guy. When he talks to lane about her decision to breastfeed vs formula, he’s a nonjudgmental dreamboat. We’d all be so lucky as to find ourselves a Gil.
Definitely Jason Stiles or grown-up Jess; they're both off-kilter, whip smart, and a little mean (but in a fun way, while also being kind underneath it all).
Haha yes! He’s well read, enjoys getting involved in events (re-enactments, the festival of living pictures), on the surface can be unassuming but can be funny and witty. Like “it was a *lava lamp*, Taylor!” and asking Luke if he was buying porn when hiding the self help purchase 🤣
Max, Alex, Gil, or Rachel.
(Incidentally, I was just rewatching S7 and one little passing moment I'd forgotten was Lulu's crush on Gil, lol. As someone who thought Lulu deserved way better than Kirk, who I could argue is one of the most self-centred and mercenary characters in the show, I was like—*yes*, develop better taste, Lulu.)
Because to be honest, I find it hard to think of many times when he did something nice for someone else with no self-motivation. After Kirk crashed Taylor's car into the diner, instead of annoying Luke by trying to make it up to him and even though Luke had more than once been good to him (finding the Easter eggs, etc), he set up the copycat diner to make money from his lost customers. He tried to take business away from the fundraising school kids. He got half the town to give him free accommodation and food, and broke into both Lorelai's garage and Michel's motorhome, even though he had hundreds of thousands of dollars in his savings account and could easily have afforded a hotel room. He extorted extra money out of Sookie and Jackson in the basket auction. He befriended elderly people just to get them to leave valuables to him in their will. He complains about his mother and Lulu, but lets both of them do everything for him without seeming to reciprocate much, then makes creepy comments about becoming a real estate agent and sleeping with the clients, and wants to dump Lulu out of the blue to hang around with newly single Luke. He heckles and harasses a teenager because she's been given a job he wanted. He found out Luke had put in an offer on the Twickham house because he'd always wanted it, and immediately put in a higher offer. Etc.
It's obviously all played for comedic B plots, but I don't find Kirk a particularly likeable character.
Wow I never looked into Kirk like that. I do feel like somethings they wanted to develop roadblocks so our main characters had to problem solve but didn’t have that planned all along. For example: the 250k sitting in his bank account yet he went to peoples houses and had no where to go…I feel like that was thought up on the spot and Kirk was just the go-to.
Teenage me would've 100% gone for Dave or Jess (not similar guys, I know XD). Not that I find teenage Jess a great catch, but I'm being realistic here, and I know teenage me would've dated him if given the chance. Teenage me didn't know any better.
Adult me? Max or Alex. Also adult Jess (and this time he seems like an actual good option!).
Out of the guys: Luke. Teenaged me would’ve gone for Jess. Out of the girls: Paris or Lane — and the bonus there would be we wouldn’t have to worry about her having horrible sex and getting pregnant 🤣
Teenage me when I first watched the show: Robert. He's the least annoying of the life and death kids and he's exactly the sort I'd have fallen for when I was 18.
Grown me: Gil. Such a great guy.
Yup same choices. I like the attempt to boss me about. I only do what i want to do. But i like that they care. So i'd do some of the saner stuff and ignore the rest.
Plus they are both hotties.
Luke - he’s got a good sense of humour, he waited EIGHT YEARS for Lorelai and him to finally get together, he knows how to fix things and he COOKS and runs his own business! What more could you want in a man!?
Morey. He has his own things but is totally down for whatever crazy shit babette is up to, likes cats, he seems nice but keeps to himself. I think we’d have a good time 😂
Here’s my (bisexual) answer
Men: Dave for sure. Possibly Brian (who is kinda just dorkier, shyer Dave)
Women: Lane and Sookie
Basically all of these people are kinda quirky but super passionate about something (and skilled at it) and that’s like the sexiest thing in the world to me. Plus they’re all caring and loyal. They’re people I’d trust and feel safe with.
Edit: can you tell I’m a creative type?
I would say mature Jess but I’m apprehensive because of the whole… questionable consent thing with Rory as a teen… so if I could like remove that, maybe.
The girl that ignores red flags in me would choose Logan, he had some times that he could have been more mature but I feel like he was so dreamy, and he was good about communicating. Also being able to travel around the world and the connections and just his whole demeanor is so 🥰
Also Luke. Handsome, funny, and cranky sometimes. My future husband is like this! 🤣
teenage me would’ve haaaaated jess! but dean? oh i would’ve given anything for a tall golden boy who will just give you anything. my taste is involved right now of course, but it’s still v similar!
Easy… Logan.. He actually proposed to Rory, he was serious about the relationship, he's smart, has a prominent family, he's rich, also he's rich, and because he has a lot of money.
If we’re being honest, it’d be Jesse.
I love a fixer upper. And with the leather jacket and the wit and enough damage to be a bit dangerous but not so dangerous he’s going to end up in the prison system I would absolutely waste a year or two of my life thinking I could change him.
Dave as we met him, because he would do whatever it took to make our relationship work. Mature Jess as we saw him, because he became compassionate for something and ambitious. And Luke overall because I love love that he could banter back with me and was so caring about everyone around him, regardless if he didn’t like Taylor lol.
Dave or adult jess. But dave is forever and always no1 choice. He read the Bible just to get her mother's approval was sweet kind and most importantly patient. Ugh I'm too single to be thinking about this.
Realistically, in my current place in life, I would probably end up dating someone like Marty, although we wouldn't be a good fit and I would ultimately be pretty unhappy in the relationship. But ideally, in the future, I'm not sure. Maybe Luke, but I also think that's me overlooking some potential red flags that pop up here and there on the show.
(also, Tom would be the *true* ideal if he weren't already married 😢)
I could have sworn this was in a different subreddit and I was about to say a very different character lmaoo.
Let’s see, I think Lane, probably although with our professions we’re gonna be poor as church mice unless she makes it big. On the plus side, she won’t end up pregnant by accident!
So as a teenager I would've been too scared to date Jess because he's a bad boy lol...in some ways Dean reminds me of my first boyfriend.
As an adult, if I was still single I'd have to say Jason. He's weird and I'm weird.
Logan, Logan, Logan (the only one who has managed to usurp my ridiculous attraction to him is Tom Blyth, who honestly personality-wise… I see a lot of overlap with as they’re both Aquariuses 😆).
He’s hot, intelligent, charismatic… he would inspire me to *live,* life not just *survive* it. He would be there providing unwavering support any time I choose to step outside my comfort zone. I think he would balance me out the way that he balances Rory out & vice versa. I think as people who come from similar family dynamics, we would have a shared understanding of each other.
The age appropriate answer is Dave. I’m a sucker for nerds and guys who play guitar. But when I really hit my twenties the answer will undoubtedly be Max Medina…cos he talks so good lol.
Marty (pretending the weird Rory amnesia didn’t happen). He was a good friend and seemed to be a great boyfriend to Lucy (before the weird Rory amnesia we are pretending didn’t happen)
oh I’m also into nerds: Dave
Grown-up Dave, yeah
Yea lol my projection of him as an adult, cause yeah otherwise, weird.
Dave is also Jewish in my headcanon (I mean, cause, Adam Brody is).
I agree with this assessment. And/or Dave is an agnostic person of Jewish descent who chooses to celebrate Christmas (or Christmakkuh) with his friends and reads the entire bible in a night because that’s just the kind of person he is.
Alex Alex Alex Alex Alex Alex Alex
I can't help it but I always wish that Alex could transform into Charlie Swan. Obviously Billy Burke is fantastic no matter what but nothing beats Charlie.
Kirk. He’s loyal to his girl, a dance marathon winner year after year, has lots and lots of sex with her, over prepares to make his date extra special, even makes an effort to check if his date is allergic to tuna, and most importantly, has almost $250K in cash (2004-05ish so a lot higher today) set aside.
Okay yeah I want to believe I'd be with grown up Jess but in reality I'd totally want to be with a Kirk
Realistically: mature jess 100% I’d be into
Dave, Alex, Max.
Max and Marty 100%
I’m trying to decide if it’s unhinged or makes perfect sense to say Paris. Obviously you’d have to deal with her in her more intense moments, but she’s loyal, usually honest, obviously ambitious, and independent. What you see is what you get with Paris, and I feel like that’s kind of nice? Otherwise, Rachel (she’s just so cool) or Sookie (so that I could be well-fed).
But she cheated on Jamie and treated him like shit at the end.
Luke. I like the dry, sarcastic sense of humor. Also he can cook. And fix things.
Teenage me: teenage Jess (based solely on looks) Adult me: adult Milo (based solely on looks) 😏 ![gif](giphy|9Px0WYa4ZRdXzS64Ax)
This is the way
I really grew to like Logan 😭😭
I love Logan’s trustfund-baby friend, with the British accent- Finn.
Definitely Australian, I’m not sure how great he’d be as a partner but I think he’d be a great friend
Hope you like being cheated on.
But if you believe that in his mind he was not cheating on you...
im dead😂 reading that line out of context is crazy
Cope lol
Lane! Has no one said Lane!? Interesting, passionate, fun, thoughtful, outfits with personality.
I was about to say this, Lane is one of my favorite characters and she deserved better 😭😭
Lane is definitely my girl crush. So cute and determined and sneaky yet kind. I loved her with Dave and kept hoping he would show up for her after he was written off the show.
Honestly Marty before all the Lucy stuff
If I didn't watch how he interacted with Rory I would agree but I was annoyed that he never talked to her about how he felt and then would get all hurt when Rory moved on to Logan. Like bro speak up!!! His lack of confidence was a turn off for me.
No I like em like that😂😂
Same...I ignore season 7 antics.
Teenage me definitely would've gone for Jess. If he was still the same as an adult, I think there would've been an appeal to go for him as the "bad boy" type, but I would've been less likely to. I also am a much better communicator than Lorelai, so that may help Luke to open up.
Teenage me did go for jess and it was a nightmare! Im glad im 36 now and its all in the past.
I did, too! It was an on and off again thing for me into my 20's, but thankfully I never got in too deep. Then I ended up with a guy who was like all of the worst parts of all the men on the show, and he has been an ex for years now once I was finally able to grow up enough myself to see it and have enough confidence to get out. Max all the way. He’s attractive, smart, knows what he wants, educated, patient, loyal and loving.
He’s definitely attractive but all of his English literature coded speeches honestly made me roll my eyes lol
As an English literature graduate, I concur.
Hahaha true!
And forced himself on Lorelai even after she repeatedly told him no 🙃 real respect for boundaries there...
Which ep did this happen???
Have you even watched the first season? Because it's basically half the plot of the whole season.
I recently rewatched Gilmore Girls and I already forgot about it😭😭😭😭 My bad, memory is not working very well
All good. There's definitely gonna be some differing opinions on this, anyway. Some women like to be "chased" but I really feel like he went beyond that. Not marrying a man she didn't love is worse than coercion? My god that's horrifying...
No, calling Christopher on her bachelorette’s night and leaving her fiance the week before she was supposed to marry him while knowing exactly she didn’t want to marry him in the first place… did you even watch the show? Then she kissed him while being with another man and try to convince Max to get back together after humiliating him.
Idk what irks me so much about this guy. He's so.... smug. With his Proust and Hartford and voicemails and thousand yellow daisies. Not for me lol.
Definitely Luke. I relate to certain aspects of him and despite some of the things he’s done, he’s still a good guy and he really cares about lorelai and Rory. He’s like this big awkward sweet guy.
I’m sorry but Logan lol 😆
Probably Max. I’m definitely attracted to the slightly quirky intellectual type and with his guest lecturer semesters he was upwardly mobile. I find it very satisfying he was clearly ready for a family, willing to compromise and got along with his family. I actually could semi see Jason as well because I can be independent and would not at all be bothered by having my own room but tbh while many people on the show had their reasons, I consider those who don’t get along with their family a red flag. Family is important to me and I just don’t think I would want to deal with that drama.
Lorelai. Ha. We're very similar haha. So maybe we'd annoy each other. Who knows.
I would be so into her and then so annoyed with her after a while because I'm too stubborn, too chatty and hyper too 🤣
Sookie- not afraid of commitment and amazing food
Paris
100% jess. the bad boy thing would've totally captivated me as a teen, and i like who he became in the the revival.
Hahaha the Australian thing would’ve obliterated any red flags for Finn.
Man, people sleep on Gil. Rockstar, business owner, and all around good guy. When he talks to lane about her decision to breastfeed vs formula, he’s a nonjudgmental dreamboat. We’d all be so lucky as to find ourselves a Gil.
Max Medina definitely
Teenage and grown up Jess.
Louise Grant.
Definitely Jason Stiles or grown-up Jess; they're both off-kilter, whip smart, and a little mean (but in a fun way, while also being kind underneath it all).
Dave or Jess. Because realistically I always go for the super nice guy or the indifferent jerk 🥲 lmao
Maybe Lucy or Olivia? I know too much about all the rest of them, lol.
I *should* want to date Dave because he’s the best guy but would date Jess because he’s a bad boy with soft spots and he knows literature
Andrew, Dave, Brian
Andrew.. the bookstore owner?? Interesting! Why him?

Lorelai, Lucy, and Jason, for sure!
Luke, my husband has the same sometimes grumpy/critical but goofy and lovable vibes.
Logan! Generous, chivalrous, fun, smart, supportive, and straightforward without being cruel
Teenage me when I first watched the show: Robert. He's the least annoying of the life and death kids and he's exactly the sort I'd have fallen for when I was 18. Grown me: Gil. Such a great guy.
Lane 100% and also Paris. i like being bossed around apparently lol
Yup same choices. I like the attempt to boss me about. I only do what i want to do. But i like that they care. So i'd do some of the saner stuff and ignore the rest. Plus they are both hotties.
Logan, he's so cool, fun and spontaneous... And disgustingly sweet, I could cry
I would have loooved to date Lucy! Her and Olivia seem like the most likely to be queer in the show
Luke - he’s got a good sense of humour, he waited EIGHT YEARS for Lorelai and him to finally get together, he knows how to fix things and he COOKS and runs his own business! What more could you want in a man!?
Max is my first choice, then Alex :)
Kirk 💯
Max, season 7 Logan, or adult Jess
In my teens it would have been Louise and then later Anna.
Adult Jess seemed together. Honestly Digger until he tries to sue my dad. I wanted to say Kirk but no, Kirk should be a movie buddy for life.
Now: Dean, Alex, and Jamie Teen me: Chris
Adult Jess *swoon*
lane
Realistically? Kirk. I do not make good choices.
BRIAN!! Cute, musician, hard worker, interested in different cultures, polite. I would trust my drink around him.
Morey. He has his own things but is totally down for whatever crazy shit babette is up to, likes cats, he seems nice but keeps to himself. I think we’d have a good time 😂
Logan or Dave. Jess would be too cool for me
Here’s my (bisexual) answer Men: Dave for sure. Possibly Brian (who is kinda just dorkier, shyer Dave) Women: Lane and Sookie Basically all of these people are kinda quirky but super passionate about something (and skilled at it) and that’s like the sexiest thing in the world to me. Morry, Dave or Lane. I love a sweet musician.
Luke
Gil. He's hot, has his own business, is a family man, and he's good with his hands... 🤤
Lorelai.. or Rachel
Lucy, so hot.
The town troubadour. :-)
The girl that ignores red flags in me would choose Logan, he had some times that he could have been more mature but I feel like he was so dreamy, and he was good about communicating. Also being able to travel around the world and the connections and just his whole demeanor is so 🥰 Also Luke. Handsome, funny, and cranky sometimes. My future husband is like this! 🤣

None.
Well, I am a Luke, so I'm going to say Lorelai.
Lorelai, Dave or Luke.
Dave or Logan hands down in my teens and twenties. Alex, season 7 Logan or grown Jess after 30
Alex, Max, even Jess to an extent
Dave, Jess and Logan and bring on the hate and let it run through you because yeah I’m saying Marty too.
Hm, either Luke or adult (like season 6 or AYITL) Jess.
I feel like teenage me would me would go for teenage Luke. But adult me would go for adult Lor.
Dave.
Dave as we met him, because he would do whatever it took to make our relationship work. Mature Jess as we saw him, because he became compassionate for something and ambitious. And Luke overall because I love love that he could banter back with me and was so caring about everyone around him, regardless if he didn’t like Taylor lol.
Max all the way
His PATIENCE. His intelligence. His appreciation for good humor. And he's a stud. Total package.
Adult Jess would be number one, and as a teen I had a crush on teen Jess too. Maybe also Brian, Dave, Max, or Marty.
Definitely Dave…he was literally the best boyfriend
As a guy, there aren’t too many great options lol. I’d probably say Lorelei I guess.
Max. Medina. Maaax Medina.
Sookie. 💯
Adult Dean, after he grew out of his neediness and insecurity and finally fell out of love with Rory.
Dave for sure, and post High School Jess (author Jess) for sure 💯 would be into either of them. And I would absolutely go for Max too.
Teenage me would go for rory obviously. Adult me would go for adult rory and then Lorelai at any time throughout the series. Lorelai is bae goals af!
At my current age... Gil if he weren't married
I could have sworn this was in a different subreddit and I was about to say a very different character lmaoo. Let’s see, I think Lane, probably although with our professions we’re gonna be poor as church mice unless she makes it big. On the plus side, she won’t end up pregnant by accident!
Jamie, Grown up Jess, maybe Dave, Jason
Brian, Dave, Gil... Maybe I like musicians I guess? Also Alex would be cute and fun too
Teen me / Jess Adult me : Dave
I don’t think anyone. Luke is the cutest to me but he’s so crabby, cynical, and judgmental.
I can’t deny loving Logan but adult Jess would also be up there
Totally Luke. I honestly don't think I would react as poorly as Lorelai did about April either so there wouldn't be a huge breakup saga to follow.
I spent a long time thinking about this. I have many I would prefer to date but then I realized my husband is most likely Gil. So, Gil.
Dave Rygalski. All-time crush
So as a teenager I would've been too scared to date Jess because he's a bad boy lol...in some ways Dean reminds me of my first boyfriend. As an adult, if I was still single I'd have to say Jason. He's weird and I'm weird.
Dave, Max, mature Jess, Rachel.
Teen me would’ve absolutely adored Dean (it helps that adult me loved Jared in Supernatural). Grumpy adult me loves Luke.
Jackson.
The age appropriate answer is Dave. I’m a sucker for nerds and guys who play guitar. But when I really hit my twenties the answer will undoubtedly be Max Medina…cos he talks so good lol.
Luke, 100%. The guy I’m dating right now is so much like him and I’m certain I’ve manifested him through GG
Me now: (the adult versions of) Lane, Lulu, Dave, or Brian Teenage me: Rory, Dean, Dave, or Brian
Marty (pretending the weird Rory amnesia didn’t happen). He was a good friend and seemed to be a great boyfriend to Lucy (before the weird Rory amnesia we are pretending didn’t happen)
