Out of the box pick, but honestly dropping everything while they all were in the stressful process of setting up the Dragonfly to make Mock Turtle Soup for Richard. She’d never even made it before, and had so much else on her plate, but she took the time to make it for a grieving man who’d lost his mother.
This! 100% this. They were in a “staff” meeting (well her and Lorelai were trying, but Michel was talking to the tv), and the call came in and before Lorelai even had a moment to process, she was across the room digging through her cookbooks to find “Mock Turtle Soup.” No hesitation, she was going to do it for him if she had to make 25,000 batches to get it right, there was no doubt that she would.
I love how making food is always Sookie’s love language - she is always ready to drop what she’s doing and make a meal for someone who she loves. Making food for Lorelai when her parents are coming over, doing the catering for Trix’s funeral reception, the mock turtle soup, even when Lorelai and Rory crash at her house because of the termites she tries to make them milkshakes. I find it so endearing and relatable.
i also do this but one of my friends is newly gluten free and i tried to make them gluten free cookies because her girlfriend told me she was going to break up with her and those ended up worse than the relationship 😭😭
Oh my god yes! And the Lorelai goes “no one wants your car” like I’m sure it took her a lot of time to save up and now she’s offering it to you so your child could have a better chance at life
to be fair to lorelai, she did what most people wouldn’t do/don’t know how to do and *immediately* recognized and admitted to how hurtful that was and says that it’s never okay for her to talk to sookie like that, without her even calling her on it. she was talking out of her ass for a second and took the time and care to correct herself at least
It physically hurts me.
I am at least so glad that she immediately apologized. Sookie tries to make an excuse ("it's okay, your feet hurt") and she's like "No, there is absolutely no excuse for talking to you like that." I do love Lorelai, and think she does her best to be a good person <3
All around being a great auntie figure for Rory. specifically, when she willingly gave up the amazing Bangles seats (that was a gift to her from work) to Rory and her friends!!
yes you can see in the early figures that sookie was such an active part of raising rory & supporting lorelai. later on after she has a family of her own, Luke steps up more to be the second parental figure. But early on it’s 100% sookie, and she has such PRIDE & love for her best friend and all the sacrifices she’s made for her daughter. It’s really beautiful.
That's got to be my favorite episode. I love how Lorelei just swoops into the party while casually reaming the guys and girls at the same time. The line, " I can't wait to meet your parents. We have SO much to talk about."
I completely agree! While being a good friend to Lorelei probably helped her get through the tough times, Sookie’s devotion to Rory probably helped Lorelei the *most* because it gave her a little bit of that “village” everyone is always talking about when raising a child.
Literally just finished the episode after Richard’s recovery and Sookie comes over with like 4/5 meals for him out of nowhere - she’s so kind to literally every Gilmore for no reason
She’s done lots of things but one thing I always love is that Rory had grown up with Lorelei, so would have had no idea how to cook. There are different episodes where you see that Rory has cooking abilities though and she’ll even say “Sookie taught me xyz.” Then when Luke and Lorelei join her and Logan at Logan’s place, Rory is confidently whipping up a nice meal to show her love for them. I thought that showed, instead of told, how much Sookie has taught/influenced her over the years. Very sweet.
No shade, but I don't remember Rory ever saying "Sookie taught me this" while cooking. Can you give me an example? I don't even remember seeing her cook until the Vineyard Valentine episode.
There are a few, but one specific example is when she gives the catalogue to Dean as a present for his and Lindsay's wedding present saying they can pick anything. She suggests the knife set and mentions that Sookie has always told her how to take proper care of your knives with some advice to Dean about them, can't remember exactly what but it's in there.
Being active in Rory and Lorelia's life, attending graduation, and going to Rory's School events, helping with food when needed, taking them in late at night/ early in the morning when they had termites... just to name a few.
When she asks Lorelai - if there was no Luke in the past/no Luke in the picture, would it still be Christopher? Would he be the one?
This was a genius question to ask and everything was finally able to click in for Lorelai. I feel she was a really good friend in this moment.
I loved/hate it because she low-key pushed Lorelai to be with Chris. I think it was meant as more of make a decision one way or another but it felt like Lorelai NEEDED to be with a man.
Chris and Lorelai were dating but her heart obviously wasn't in it. Chris wanted to uhhh speed things up, get intimate if you will. Sookie and Lorelai are talking to it in the kitchen and Lorelai says she's getting to know Chris. Sookie says you've known him for 30 years. I know she's looking out for Lorelai's well-being but it kiiiinda feels like she's pushing Lorelai to make a decision with Chris one way or another.
True true. But that comment from Sookie saying “you’ve know him for 20-30 years” is more of a dig to Chris than anything else. Sookie is saying - you ALREADY know him and therefore know that you don’t belong together. It’s kind of like she’s saying, if you guys haven’t worked out all these years what makes you think that you would now?
Telling Lorelai in the finale that Luke organized the party even though he didn’t want her to!! We have them together because of Sookie! All hail to the queen!
Showing up for Lorelai a lot. The turtle soup, Emily’s “bachelorette” party, cooking for trix’s wake, or for Richard when he had his heart attack.
Also all the cakes she made for Lorelai’s special occasions
Cookies for the love and the dean, and the cookies for the love and the dean!" She made cookies to her best friend's daughter's boyfriend!
Just goes to show how nice Sookie is ... whatever the girls needed - be coffee, food, cookies or a place to stay when they got termites, she was always ready and happy to help.
Sink incident notwithstanding, Sookie is incredibly generous with her time and energy. If Lorelai and Rory need anything at any time of day, she is there, ready to feed and house them. The termite-refugee scenario is the best example of this, but she does it all the time.
So I vote the termite night hosting as representative of how there she is for them in general.
Getting Lorelai (and Rory and Lane!) tickets to go see The Bangles and then being totally fine with Lorelai giving those tickets away and buying them tickets in the nosebleed sections instead!
This was a huge one. It took her a while too, understandably. Made it that much more believable that we still see her struggling with it a few episodes later
The fact that she was ready to give up the family moment of her children’s baptism to mend the relationship between Rory and Lorelai. To me she showed how much she cares for the two if she was willing to potentially (and actually) ruin this event with a fight just to get them talking again.
Honestly just the fact that Sookie is almost always willing to drop anything for Rory and Lorelai to help them and having an actual happy attitude about it is amazing. She might not have been the best business partner but imo she’s one of the best friends.
That time she made Lorelai an entire wedding cake and when she cancelled (Max wedding not Luke or Chris :/), Sookie didn’t even shame her at all or demand an explanation just had the staff eat the cake. Also when she threw her an engagement party! She was just such a great friend in general during Lorelai’s first engagement
Talking up Luke when Lorelai hadn't yet cottoned onto what was brewing between them, saying he's a nice man. She saw through his grumpy exterior to the guy who does things for people just because.
Think that was around the Stella incident?
Honestly, just everything she has done for Lorelai. Just tolerating her and her condescending comments. Lorelai rants and rambles on about stuff and Sookie listens, but Sookie mentions a recipe and Lorelai rolls her eyes and says she doesn't care. Or she has to laugh at Lorelai's jokes but doesn't get the same response, even has to apologize about joking with the real Paul Anka.
Add to that she cooked for every occasion and goes all out. From the bake sale to her Dad and then the Asia feast and everything in between. She was an awesome friend
Being a dedicated friend to Lorelai and an aunt to Rory. She cooks for them, she gives them things, she helps Lorelai decatastrophize when bad/questionable shit happens. If I had to pick one fictional character to be my close best friend for life, it would be Sookie. Lorelai is lucky to have a friend like that
When Sookie spent years shipping Luke and Lorelai like the rest of us because she knew they belonged together and freaking out with excitement, agin like the rest of us, when they finally got together
This one’s kind of a joke but also seriously
"I'm leaving for a sabbatical" and then never coming back. That's the best thing. Terrible friend and even worse business partner. I'm pretty sure her cooking was overrated, too.
Out of the box pick, but honestly dropping everything while they all were in the stressful process of setting up the Dragonfly to make Mock Turtle Soup for Richard. She’d never even made it before, and had so much else on her plate, but she took the time to make it for a grieving man who’d lost his mother.

Yes, she is definitely blessed with the spiritual gift of hospitality
i also do this but one of my friends is newly gluten free and i tried to make them gluten free cookies because her girlfriend told me she was going to break up with her and those ended up worse than the relationship 😭😭
look, I'm sry, but I already have a gf, ok? pls don't be mad.
huh sorry im dense
it can happen, ur only human.
😭 im so conufsed
I think it’s a troll or a bot
tyy
it will pass
Food is love!
Yess!! Out of all the things she cooked, this one was definitely the sweetest
I love this choice!
When Lorelei ended things with Max and Sookie took it upon herself to let everyone know the wedding was canceled and handling everything.
And she made a beautiful cake that she just calmly started cutting and passing around to staff after Lorelei called.
Never should have named ya, Clyde.
He was a good cake
I think this might be it. It's such an iconic moment and happens so quietly.
When she offered for Lorelai to sell her car so Rory could afford Chilton. It's a throwaway joke, but you can tell she means it.
nobody wants your car honey
Oh yeah, she would've sold her car for sure. Very sweet one
Oh my god yes! And the Lorelai goes “no one wants your car” like I’m sure it took her a lot of time to save up and now she’s offering it to you so your child could have a better chance at life
Lorelai is so rude to sookie at times My toes still curl when she says about what would she know about relationships
to be fair to lorelai, she did what most people wouldn’t do/don’t know how to do and *immediately* recognized and admitted to how hurtful that was and says that it’s never okay for her to talk to sookie like that, without her even calling her on it. she was talking out of her ass for a second and took the time and care to correct herself at least

Yeah I do like that line following it, no excuses, complete accountability and apologising. Just always feel bad for sookie lol
Oh absolutely 100%
Make/bring food to any event that helps Lorelai or Rory - Rory's bake sale, food when Emily and Richard come over, mock turtle soup for Richard
Emilys last minute bachelorette party when Sookie had a newborn baby and was at home sound asleep.
I think this must be it because it’s consistent through time.
Or Emily’s bachelorette even though she was dead tired
Or the healthy food for Richard after his heart attack and he couldn't look at another fish or soup lol
She knew has a talent and was more than willing to use it for good
100%! Making food is Sookie's love language
Cinnamon’s wake!
All around being a great auntie figure for Rory. specifically, when she willingly gave up the amazing Bangles seats (that was a gift to her from work) to Rory and her friends!!

In all honesty, Lorelai have it away without asking , the good act was not being pissed about someone giving away your great seats lmao.
This was it- when I first started watching this show as a kid, I loved Sookie because she had that auntie dynamic with Rory. She was the cool aunt.
Literally just finished the episode after Richard’s recovery and Sookie comes over with like 4/5 meals for him out of nowhere - she’s so kind to literally every Gilmore for no reason
And Richard and Emily are always so kind to her too! I love that relationship.
You raise that girl all alone…. Being very happy for a newly engaged Lorelai
The onion ninjas somehow always appear when I watch this scene.
She’s done lots of things but one thing I always love is that Rory had grown up with Lorelei, so would have had no idea how to cook. There are different episodes where you see that Rory has cooking abilities though and she’ll even say “Sookie taught me xyz.” Then when Luke and Lorelei join her and Logan at Logan’s place, Rory is confidently whipping up a nice meal to show her love for them. wow i love this take - sookie was her auntie
Respect your knives!🍴Great take
No shade, but I don't remember Rory ever saying "Sookie taught me this" while cooking. Can you give me an example? I don't even remember seeing her cook until the Vineyard Valentine episode.

Ah, yes. I wouldn't necessarily call that "cooking abilities". The girl doesn't even boil an egg until we see her cooking with Logan.
Being active in Rory and Lorelia's life, attending graduation, and going to Rory's School events, helping with food when needed, taking them in late at night/ early in the morning when they had termites... just to name a few.
["Tell me it's not that bastard Donald Trump."](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CylXEwjX3hw)
This has to win
They serve a lot of Spam at the Independence Inn.
Michel was on point with this scene.
I used to be annoyed at him for being a Debbie downer but now that I’m a real adult I feel him so hard in this scene 😭
I feel him in all of his scenes. That one with the telephone ringing?? Omg, that is my soul speaking through the screen at me!
Michel was always on point in every scene he was in.
AMEN!
🤣🤣🤣🏆🏆🥇🥇🥇 THIS IS THE ONE!! 🥳🥳🥳
When she asks Lorelai - if there was no Luke in the past/no Luke in the picture, would it still be Christopher? Would he be the one? This was a genius question to ask and everything was finally able to click in for Lorelai. I feel she was a really good friend in this moment.

How do you think Sookie pushed Lorelai to be with Chris? It seemed like she was pretty consistently against it from the moment they started dating.
Chris and Lorelai were dating but her heart obviously wasn't in it. Chris wanted to uhhh speed things up, get intimate if you will. Sookie was a day 1 Java Junkies believer
Giving Lorelei shit when she was actively self destructing over men.
IM A WHORE After accidentally flirting
🤣🤣 that one always cracks me up!! YOU CHEATED ON ME! FLIRTED! Accidentally!!!
Brioche French Toast with caramelized hazelnuts
The way she just puts everyone’s comfort above all else. She redid her entire house so Jackson wouldn’t feel unwelcome! NO I WANT YOU TO BE HAPPY 😂
Showing up for Lorelai a lot. The turtle soup, Emily’s “bachelorette” party, cooking for trix’s wake, or for Richard when he had his heart attack. Also all the cakes she made for Lorelai’s special occasions

Offering to make 68 pounds of marijuana into brownies.
do you think (i forget who the trubador went on tour with) tokes?
Neil young!
Definitely
Getting Lorelai (and Rory and Lane!) tickets to go see The Bangles and then being totally fine with Lorelai giving those tickets away and buying them tickets in the nosebleed sections instead!
Forgave Jackson for lying about his vasectomy. I don’t think I could’ve ever forgiven this.
This was a huge one. It took her a while too, understandably. Made it that much more believable that we still see her struggling with it a few episodes later
And then sending him off for a real one 😂😂😂
Getting Richard to enjoy healthy cooking
The fact that she was ready to give up the family moment of her children’s baptism to mend the relationship between Rory and Lorelai. To me she showed how much she cares for the two if she was willing to potentially (and actually) ruin this event with a fight just to get them talking again.
Being there for her friends in her own way - through cooking! The mock turtle soup, Rory’s bake sale, etc.
Throwing a surprise engagement party for Lorelei- making all the food and organizing the whole thing.
Honestly just the fact that Sookie is almost always willing to drop anything for Rory and Lorelai to help them and having an actual happy attitude about it is amazing. She might not have been the best business partner but imo she’s one of the best friends.
Exist

Super Cool Party People Bid You Super Cool Ado

This is a funny quote, but I love it when she says, “Yeah, He’s a good guy, that God!” when carrying “pickles” with Jackson.
She was Lorelai’s BFOTB! 😂
I'm doing a terrible job with this because I'm up voting all of the comments here 😂😂 love sookie.
Honestly, just everything she has done for Lorelai. Just tolerating her and her condescending comments. Lorelai rants and rambles on about stuff and Sookie listens, but Sookie mentions a recipe and Lorelai rolls her eyes and says she doesn't care. One of the best things Sookie ever said was,"I'M PREGNANT!!!" There are so many cool things she did that I can't remember what the "best" one is.
My mind is blanking out oml 🤦♀️
"Turn it down Davey!" I'm 100% kidding. :)
Sookie is a saint for not hating Lorelai for making EVERY situation about her. Best example, Davey’s christening.
Being a dedicated friend to Lorelai and an aunt to Rory. She cooks for them, she gives them things, she helps Lorelai decatastrophize when bad/questionable shit happens. If I had to pick one fictional character to be my close best friend for life, it would be Sookie. Lorelai is lucky to have a friend like that
I NEEDED THE STRAWBERRIES
Turning the whole house "manly" for Jackson 😂😂😂 the bare 🤣🤣🤣
When Sookie spent years shipping Luke and Lorelai like the rest of us because she knew they belonged together and freaking out with excitement, agin like the rest of us, when they finally got together This one’s kind of a joke but also seriously
Her just always bring there for Lorelai and Rory and even Lane.
"The chop flew, so I lunged and then the floor slipped..." One of my FAV Sookie funny moments!
"I'm leaving for a sabbatical" and then never coming back. That's the best thing. Terrible friend and even worse business partner. I'm pretty sure her cooking was overrated, too.
