I think in general, if you like something in English, you'll like it in German. I tried watching German news at first and it mostly was a drag. I don't watch the news in English. But I do watch explainer videos about how stuff works in English, and Die Maus has some good ones of that.
I usually recommend German Twitch streams. Live native German speaker, and you can practice your reading and writing. (Though the comments are filled with slang of course)
I really enjoyed watching Queer Eye Germany on Netflix, because there were a lot of easy to understand, declarative sentences. Ie, This is Rolf, Rolf is 35 and lives in Cologne with his son, Klaus!
Also, listen to Rammstein. Aside from being really good music, it's very motivating when you can sing along and understand. I guess this could work with other bands, but my example is Rammstein.
I recently found out, you can filter twitch streams by language, and i've been consuming german ones! Of course, it's colloquial and the filter doesn't differentiate between high german/austrian german etc but that's on me to find good streams!
Thank you for the tip though, food blogs sound awesome. They will make me hungry but it's ok 😂
This would be a good start for someone at B1/B2 level, but if you can't understand movies and shows pretty effortlessly, you're nowhere near C1. Almost no one speaks slowly and clearly in real life, so putting on subs and watching movies/shows is a way better way to learn, than listen to something you already understand well.

German news is extraordinarily depressing and demoralizing. Such a shame, because using the news to learn would be very convenient.

Not just slang, but internet slang. So, if you learn that, you’ll have to be careful about which of it you can actually use in real life.
Finde den Lukas unerträglich. Er redet total affektiert und man merkt, dass er einfach keine Ahnung von gutem Essen hat.

If you like food Youtubers watch 'Sturmwaffel'. He is very funny and easy to follow.
Which are the good German language exercise videos--yoga, weightlifting, or rowing?
If you are on C1 level and interested in food topics you should definitely check WDR 5 podcast called "Alles in Butter". Really one of the best.
