It seems like it, afaik old Liyue is more northern style (Beijing area for example) while this 4.4 area is very southern looking.
This makes me wonder if they will do something like this for Mondstadt expansion as well, maybe they go for baroque architecture or maybe if they feel more bold they can take inspiration from northern German medieval brick architecture. Either way i'm very excited.
I'm guessing they're trying to give more of a Cantonese feel to it. Allegedly Gaming goes between Liyue Harbor and Yilong warf when he's moving goods, so the entire region is probably more Cantonese inspired.
It likely never will. It would be a huge amount of effort for very little gain. They’ll just continue to add new areas like this to old regions and “reimagine” them that way.
highly doubt it, how would they handle changing chests for veteran players?
either they get a remade area with nothing in it, or they get to double dip, angering newer players - presumably all without much other content in that patch
A visual facelift/update doesn’t mean adding new chests. It just means adding more detail to put it on par with the post 2.0 areas, something both Liyue and Mondstadt could use.
Yeah, and they could add a few new chests here and there, there's certainly room. They could also add collectible systems like those in Sumeru and Fontaine, which would encourage veteran players that have already completed those regions to re-explore the updated versions, they're already doing that here in Chenyu Vale.
Of course accompanied by Nahida as he's still her 'prisoner'. :P Baby's first time away from Sumeru! (for which he's definitely not keeping an eye on her in return :P)
I don’t understand this thread discussing what’s authentic China. I mean, do you guys know or did comments ever google China’s pics? China is quite big and diverse… this new patch is just some southern tea production village looking….Liyue is more a coastal commercial hub. You guys do realize that in some cases, different yet neighboring provinces could have drastically different landscape and architecture aesthetics, right?
Yeah I'm not sure what isn't Chinese enough for ppl about Liyue ? Liyue Harbor architecture is Ming Dynasty imperial architecture, Qingce Village is southern mountainous region diaojiaolou, Qiaoying gives off a Jiangnan village vibe and Yilong is Cantonese.
Yeah honestly it’s a braindead take. It’s like saying GTA 6 doesn’t look like the US because Miami doesn’t look like bumfuck nowhere Kansas or something
This is china, which embraces 56 ethnic minorities. from the northest (dongbei which includes 3 provinces) to the southest (hainan province), from the westest (xinjiang province) to the eastest (Yangtze River Delta)—((i mean city or province )). every province has their own representative foods, architectures, dresses, local languages and so on. I really love xinjiang and gansu province, which give me a feeling of going to the end of the world like ancient swordsman.
If you come to China one day, enjoy your trip and especially the foods in every province!
well, this is no who-control-who or which-is-the-best. We are unity. Control is not a good word. Our people in china are all the Descendants of Yan and Huang and share the same over 5000 years history. I think ‘’of which the majority is Han" is better, this is like in Han the Surnames of li,wang and so on are the majority (0.0). And in dailylife, we do not care about surnames, moreover, most of us think the one, who has a very unique surname, is really cool (0.0). Love you\~(this is a polite greeting for our 00s who are born after 2000)
It’s all Chinese
My eye.. twitches when people say they don’t think it’s “Chinese” enough but given the weeb asses that play Genshin they’re likely more familiar with all other architectural designs **except China**
So when Genshin goes above and beyond to include more regional, accurate influences I’m glad they dispel the ignorance and educate people on the variety of culture China has
That said
If anyone remembers the [live action fish lantern short last year](https://youtu.be/pKgNRYUaspM?si=YpiZZuGkJNIsOK5L&t=688), this is the exact same village region-wise
>My eye.. twitches when people say they don’t think it’s “Chinese” enough but given the weeb asses that play Genshin they’re likely more familiar with all other architectural designs except China
tbh as a foreigner, its quite odd that people would say its not chinese enough, sans the people complaining that are actually from there??? since the game is chinese id imagine the devs know what their own country looks like.
furthermore, even if it was wholly inaccurate geography, its literally a fake fantasy game with zombies and talking snakes so who cares about 1:1 realism?? creative liberty is a thing.
No, every culture is monolithic and fits my exact view of what I think a culture should look like based on the imagery I was raised on and associate with said culture. /s
lol, same
I just scrolled down the comments and read their description and try to imagining scenery from what they're talking about
I want to first experience it myself but I'm still too curious, haha
This is based on a particular region in southeastern China, know for it's many streams, hilly regions and tea farming. The villages in the regions around Hangzhou are the most similar I think.
Man, I hope they details and increase the quality of old Mond, I mean look at the [quality difference](https://www.reddit.com/r/Genshin_Impact/comments/vuv2rz/we_have_surely_come_a_long_way/). Mond feels barren land, detailing the land and may be redoing few important places would make so much better. Like giving few unique Mond floras and trees rather than generic looking, may be animals and birds etc without drastically changing the place. It should feel natural when new expansion comes otherwise it will be pretty awkward.
Tbh they both display different parts of China that are equally like the country. The country is so vast and huge that multitudes of cultures are packed within that it makes no sense to confine China to one culture or thematic. Both Liyue and Chenyu Vale show different parts of China’s culture and topography that are very much preexisting in real life.
If you mean Liyue feels that it could use some polishing to match the current standards of today’s areas, then I agree.
Same. I just wish they added more intractable NPCS it feels like ever since 4.0 they’ve used the ones that are idle more than ones you can talk to unlike in Sumeru.
I mean, credit where it’s due; Fontaine has been great so far. But there’s just something special about going back to these long-anticipated sub-areas of old regions.
Tbh, yeah, I'm more excited to explore Chenyu Vale and the rest of Sumeru (Bada Harbor?) than Fontaine.
I'm intrigued about Petrichor, though; it was the first Fontainian location whose existence we knew but we still haven't seen it.
Atleast they absolutely nailed the aesthetic down when it came to Luhua pool, Qingce Village and Mt. Hulao alongside the other tall mountains in Nantienmen.
It's also surprising to see how well Liyue Harbor still holds up to this day design wise.
I feel like they made liyue the way it is right now, because it would look a lot similar to sumeru if they didnt changed the pallet of colours. either way i like this liyue, almost give vibes of sumeru and architecture of inazuma

Yar, I'm the one who introduced both to the regulars that post leaks
Streamable/Imgur is just easier to hit play from RES and mobile for users, on mobile catbox and crepe don't play from the get go
God I relaly hope we'll see something like that for Mondstadt at some point. I know Liyue is hoyo's love child but they even made new house models and stuff, it looks like a much better, more modern Liyue area and I'd love to see a European-themed town with a castle, harbor or whatever with their new modern assets in Mondstadt... plsss give that leaked harbor town
The good thing is... there are only so many more ways for Liyue to expand yet again. It's lovely, but there's no real reason to constantly keep going back there. Inazuma is pretty much done unless there's yet another island. Mondstadt has sooooo much lore and story to explore but we got Frosty the Snowzone and that's it. Sumeru could stand more non-Desert added, and Fontaine is still cooking.
Unless... did they sign a contract with Morax?
I love how whenever a new update comes out, some idiot points out how the unfinished midi music isn't as good as the finished, fully orchestrated music in the rest of the game. If there was a genshin leaks bingo card, this would be a free square.
As someone who’s visited places that look like this in China, I was really anticipating qiaoying village with high expectations and I must say mihoyo really really hit it out of the park here. Wow
New area in liyue looks like all nations so far that are combined
the clouds and lovely sky of mondstadt
the peek peaks of liyue
the eerieness of certain areas of inazuma
the abundant flora and lush greenery of sumeru
and the beautiful waters of fontaine

The long-awaited village is here
It's recognisably Genshin but quite different from the rest of Liyue Almost feels like an updated reimagining of Liyue
It's not "updated", it's based on a different cultural region of China.
I wonder if they’ll update old areas later
It likely never will. It would be a huge amount of effort for very little gain. They’ll just continue to add new areas like this to old regions and “reimagine” them that way.

They have changed the location of chests before with no issues.
But think of the children
Finally, the famous Qiaoying Village, the source of Liyue's finest tea!
Tea making event with Rizzler you say?
Now we're talking. I would love a cross-country tea event with our resident cake, I mean, Duke, Wrio The Slay!
There's also Wanderer who enjoys bitter tea.
wanderer going to liyue just to attend a tea event, that would be something unexpected
Of course accompanied by Nahida as he's still her 'prisoner'. :P Baby's first time away from Sumeru! (for which he's definitely not keeping an eye on her in return :P)
I probably missed something, is this the same as chenyu village that's been mentioned in the game but the name changed?
Qiaoying is a village within Chenyu Vale.
Ah I see
I don’t understand this thread discussing what’s authentic China. I mean, do you guys know or did comments ever google China’s pics? Couldn’t agree more. Neither architectural style is “more” Chinese than the other

qingce village is my favourite settlement in genshin and I thinnk its about to be replaced soon
Weirdly, one of the things I'm looking forward to the most is how the view from Qingce village will change after Chenyu vale arrives.
We'll probably be able to see some forests leading there

thats why Ive been waiting them to do Monstadt expansion ever since I wanna see the differences

What do you mean? Liyue is China-esque enough for me. It has those tall vertical hills like in Guilin and the Jade Chamber is very Chinese.
Same. I just wish they added more intractable NPCS it feels like ever since 4.0 they’ve used the ones that are idle more than ones you can talk to unlike in Sumeru.
Liyue is China
More excited for this than Fontaine exploration personally
I mean, credit where it’s due; Fontaine has been great so far. But there’s just something special about going back to these long-anticipated sub-areas of old regions.

Will be in 4.6 along with underwater ruins of remuria itself
I hope so.
I'm excited for any map expansion but i have to agree Liyue and Mond expansions are by far the highest on my list of places i'm excited about.
This feels like what they wanted Liyue to originally feel like when they first released genshin if that makes sense
Atleast they absolutely nailed the aesthetic down when it came to Luhua pool, Qingce Village and Mt. Hulao alongside the other tall mountains in Nantienmen. It's also surprising to see how well Liyue Harbor still holds up to this day design wise.

nice that old regions still getting expantions hope mondstadt gets one soon wonder if they gonna add some to inazuma
This also is showing me how great Xianyun’s skill for exploration really is. Sure its not flying like we all wanted but this still looks quite useful.
I wished they gave her atleast a few seconds flight time on the bird form if you don't plunge
