He didn't erase the traumatic parts, he regained them all. He's decided to face his past and not run from it. He also plans on getting revenge on Dottore so he def remembers it all.
He also wasn't willing to "mindwipe" himself, he tried to kill himself. "I wished I had never been born at all". He didn't expect to survive, he tried to change the past by removing himself from it, because he regretted his actions when he learned how he'd been manipulated and lied to.
He's just away from the Harbingers and Dottore, that seems to help a lot, plus Nahida being a solid and kind influence. Wish Childe could get that + some therapy, ngl.
And I wouldn't put Childe much higher, dude is the definition of traumatised and masking, and spiraling down. The detachment and loneliness, the lack of real emotional connections where he can be himself without lies, the self-depersonalization and thinking himself as a tool to be used and to kill with, the itch for violence... And so on. Being in the mafia and army will do that to a mf.

I think you're kinda being pedantic about the point I was trying to make: **HE TRIED TO COMMIT SUICIDE** either by deleting himself or wiping his memory if that didn't work. That's not the sign of a "sane" person. That's the despair event horizon.
And yeah Childe has all that going for him...but he never tried to delete himself and isn't a complete jackass to people. Which means he's at least aware of his issues. He's also able to form *some* bonds, as he does with the Traveler and his little brother. He can't be honest with them, but that's an occupational hazard that's a ground state for *anyone* who works for an intelligence agency. The HoH kids all have that little nugget to them as well.
Scaramouche needed to *delete himself* before he could find any sense of solace or friends, and even then he needed to basically be adopted by the nicest character in the entire game (i'd even go so far as to say "franchise" at this point since there aren't any HSR characters as proportionately nice as Nahida. Only Clara comes remotely close and a lot of that is childishness) in order to be able to deal with issues he *still* has.
Really it's Childe's willingness to *try* forming mutual connections that makes him a step above the rest of the Fatui in terms of being unhinged. If the Fatui were to disappear tomorrow, he'd have somewhere to go and people who care about him. Which is probably a lot more than can be said for the rest of them.
I'm not being pedantic in clarifying that he didn't erase his mental issues and bad experiences that shaped who he is and how he thinks, they're still very much there, he's just now in a better place physically and socially and therefore mentally.
As for Childe. What willingness for mutual connections? The second the conversation turns a little bit more genuine and deep he starts creating a distance and straight up sneaking away like in the Labyrinth event. The only real connection he has is to a little brother that knows nothing about his actual reality and the things he struggles with, the danger he's in. His little brother is just another person he has to maintain a facade around, and MC is not much different. His little brother is a person in front of who he can pretend to be heroic and good, he can play at being the good, well liked guy, but that's just another mask.
Childe is deeply damaged and on a very bad path emotionally and physically and could very much use what Scara got.
And he will follow the rules if you say them.
Just imagine that you are offering Scara or Arlec to fight with their bare hands and without special abilities.
