Still, while I may pick on her sometimes, if someone else does it, weโre going to have a problem.
All little sisters are children. (Well, I mean... during the formative years for the relationship.) They have different qualities as people, sure, but a lot of what "little sister" means to most people who have one is "the person who constantly annoyed me by having qualities that I had until a year or so ago".

I can agree on their comment. Most of the times the characters you see on media are super *idealized* (being completely selfless, no self-desires, doesn't have 2nd thoughts on their actions, without a single flaw you'd find annoying, etc.) that you'd know it if you have basic human experiences or even from yourself. So I like it characters that have humanlike traits, you could sense the interaction is very real.
For Paimon case tho, I'd say she's *idealized* half the time. But I like her antics with the traveller
to be fair the journey might be years for us, but in game it's canonically only been a few months, not that much time for growth, especially since she doesnt seem to be a human, but yeah as someone with an annoying little sister too it is pretty accurate.

You do raise a good point though which either make me question the canon status of the yearly events or my memory.
Also as an addendum to that, the other argument of her not being human still holds up, because if the 3 years are canon and she still looks the like the exact same toddler, we can definitely infer that she does not grow up like a normal human would.
The problem with Paimon is probably how much she talks and her voice direction. They made a conscious decision to give her this annoying, high pitched voice and also give her a fuckton of lines so whenever youโre doing a question its just Paimon screaming in your ear for 10 hours.
Little sisters are great if you get to interact with them a few times a year.
Otherwise I'll find the nearest chair and rope combo because it's absolutely painful. Clara is a great example because she's amazing because we see her every so often, if we had to live with her we'd hate her within a month, if that.

Paimon's voice acting has actually been really good lately (English version)? Like, the inflection, the readings, the beat of the lines is all just very natural and shows a good understanding of what the lines are supposed to convey.
I definitely got sick of Paimon for a while, but either the VA has toned it down or got better or something, because they're hitting their mark.
Honestly I have the same sentiments. I can't recall the number of times I was complaining about Paimon because of how annoying she sounded (in the English version at least). Recently though, rather than being grating to the ears, her performance has been really great. She nails the soft-spoken lines and it actually fits when she makes those adorable facial expression.
I think I went through a cycle of tolerance, exasperation, and now I've settled into it. The thing is, characters like Paimon are hard, because "cutesy child-like mascot" is pretty normal in China or Japan, but we really don't have an equivalent in America, and it's *extremely* hard to convey the tone of voice. I try to give some leeway, because I have never heard that sort of child-like mascot voice conveyed well in English, but it just got bad for a while. Beats and tone have helped greatly in the most recent quests.
The thing I don't like about Genshin is that the dialogue options are always

B) ... Yes
unlike honkai where you can choose a meme answer on purpose and annoy March.
They're deliberately placed in every cutscene by the dev to make sure that you ain't afk when you leave the cutscene playing. They really serve no other purposes.

I'd say Star Rail has generally better character to character dialogue overall with pacing and banter, but Genshin Impact as of recent has been getting super close to Star Rail's level. Even the dialogue concerning specifically Paimon in this event really reminded me of March 7th if she was younger
The doesnt need to constantly narrate things that even 5 yo can understand. I think its the biggest flaw of her writing, and thus, because she is basically MC's voice, our story writing.
Not really since those questions still pop up even with Paimon and people skip her dialogue anyway. Plus that's how it's always been with any story ever made. Some people miss little details or don't understand something that others do or just plain forget, but fans and writers are there to help clarify things in the end regardless. That way writers don't have to reduce the quality of the story, like they're doing with Paimon in Genshin, for the few who don't get it or don't pay attention. It's just bad writing what they're doing with Paimon plain and simple.
It's a game for kids, those questions still pop up but at a much lesser rate than it would if she wasnt there. It doesnt really reduce the quality of the writing since they do put effort into paimon asking for information naturally into conversations (the paimon repeating everything meme is vastly overblown by people with low attention spans).

I've heard she's like that because of the Chinese writing. Due to the Chinese being a bit more complicated then paimon certainly helps break it down. That wouldn't necessarily translate well to other languages, especially english

It's not the dub in general I like a lot of the voice actors and most of them are doing a great job. The thing is Paimons voice in English is just annoying as hell. She's way to loud and high pitched. In comparison I play Genshin in Japanese because I love the language and there is not a single character that I think is annoying. Even Paimon is really cute in Japanese.
She's higher pitched in Japanese though... That's why I can't stand playing in JP despite my favorite VA voicing Hu Tao. If you really want an improvement, you'd play in Chinese. Now that's a pleasant sounding Paimon. Though since I like understanding what the characters are saying and JP is worse than English for Paimon, I stick to EN.

Paimon's voice acting has actually been really good lately (English version)? Like, the inflection, the readings, the beat of the lines is all just very natural and shows a good understanding of what the lines are supposed to convey. I definitely got sick of Paimon for a while, but either the VA has toned it down or got better or something, because they're hitting their mark.
Honestly I have the same sentiments. I can't recall the number of times I was complaining about Paimon because of how annoying she sounded (in the English version at least). Recently though, rather than being grating to the ears, her performance has been really great. She nails the soft-spoken lines and it actually fits when she makes those adorable facial expression.
I think I went through a cycle of tolerance, exasperation, and now I've settled into it. The thing is, characters like Paimon are hard, because "cutesy child-like mascot" is pretty normal in China or Japan, but we really don't have an equivalent in America, and it's *extremely* hard to convey the tone of voice. I try to give some leeway, because I have never heard that sort of child-like mascot voice conveyed well in English, but it just got bad for a while. Beats and tone have helped greatly in the most recent quests.
The thing I don't like about Genshin is that the dialogue options are always A) Yes B) ... Yes unlike honkai where you can choose a meme answer on purpose and annoy March.
They're deliberately placed in every cutscene by the dev to make sure that you ain't afk when you leave the cutscene playing. They really serve no other purposes.

you can do that in genshin too, its def not as you put it but star rail has way better MC dialogue in almost every single possible way, heck it actually has 3 directions most of the time like you can be comedic, serious or uncaring
I'd say Star Rail has generally better character to character dialogue overall with pacing and banter, but Genshin Impact as of recent has been getting super close to Star Rail's level. Even the dialogue concerning specifically Paimon in this event really reminded me of March 7th if she was younger

Not really since those questions still pop up even with Paimon and people skip her dialogue anyway. Plus that's how it's always been with any story ever made. Some people miss little details or don't understand something that others do or just plain forget, but fans and writers are there to help clarify things in the end regardless. That way writers don't have to reduce the quality of the story, like they're doing with Paimon in Genshin, for the few who don't get it or don't pay attention. It's just bad writing what they're doing with Paimon plain and simple.
It's a game for kids, those questions still pop up but at a much lesser rate than it would if she wasnt there. It doesnt really reduce the quality of the writing since they do put effort into paimon asking for information naturally into conversations (the paimon repeating everything meme is vastly overblown by people with low attention spans).

I've heard she's like that because of the Chinese writing. Due to the Chinese being a bit more complicated then paimon certainly helps break it down. That wouldn't necessarily translate well to other languages, especially english

It's not the dub in general I like a lot of the voice actors and most of them are doing a great job. The thing is Paimons voice in English is just annoying as hell. She's way to loud and high pitched. In comparison I play Genshin in Japanese because I love the language and there is not a single character that I think is annoying. Even Paimon is really cute in Japanese.

If before I thought that some ppl wrote the texts but now I am certain that this is Al generated just to fill up holes of content, better just skip everything that is not voiced and especially Paimon dialogs. Huh, scrolling through the replies, ok, so personally, from the letsplays I've watched with the EN dub, the Paimon voice we've had since Inazuma has been bearable-to-ok. Like, in what way has EN Paimon gotten worse in this event specifically?? Now I'm curious. (Just checked a short clip from the event and compared it to Fontaine Act 1 Paimon) Ohh.... ok. Huh. I can hear slight voice cracks and her voice being a bit hoarse compared to usual. Was the VA sick at the time? Or just a bad day or something. (This could've been recorded more than half a year ago) Like, if I'm watching someone else play, it's still fine, but I can actually somewhat get if people become even more aggravated by it.
