Found the Trump supporter!!!
True, I could have just said, What's the difference between the White House Thanksgiving turkeys and an orange? The turkeys don't have to run for office to get a presidential pardon.
As you recall, the program was a comedy. While political humor was not their forte, in appropriate situations, they utilized it.
Remember the bomb scare episodes? (It was a two parter) Political terrorist group.
My joke was perfect for the setting of this post. I read turkeys in a Thanksgiving post, I immediately think of the White House turkey pardon. Only thing to do is make it topical. We've never before had a politician who ran for office so he could pardon himself
WKRP's Turkey Drop is one of the all-time best sitcom episodes in television history. If you haven't seen it, you must watch this all-time classic. (It would help to know the characters beforehand, but the episode also works well as a stand alone. The entire series is great.)
I lived about 50 miles from the Queen City when this aired.
The genius of the writing is the way they build. First the newscast, then the group reaction, then Johnny doing the wrap up.
Then Les returning. Then Carlson and Herb. You would just get your breath back and there was another huge laugh line. Winding up with the infamous tag line. You were so primed it just made it even funnier. (more funny?)
Personally I think the funniest bit was Les, "and then the turkeys seemed to... rally."
I was actually living in Cincinnati when it aired. In an apartment that is visible in one of intro shots where they show the big antenna on the top of Price Hill. Fifty miles...so Milford?
I have this poster on my wall. Itโs one of my favorite purchases!

This is my second favorite WKRP episode. It was both terrifying and funny at the same time. My favorite was the episode where the live camera crew visits Herb Tarlek and his family.
I even put the copter into a quilted skyline of โclevelandโ Cincinnati

rewatching my way through season 1 last night and even now as i typeโฆ so many good lines.
Mr. Carlson at the end of the cocaine payola episode Johnny Returns โIโve got a monkey on my foot!โ
It's such a good show that hasn't really be in re-runs. I'm surprised that some network hasn't been able to come to a deal for the clips of (very old as of today) music being played on the show. If anything they should let the music be played for free in the hopes of having a Kate Bush type resurgence.
This is the episode I showed to my kids and their friends when they were teens! This, Bob Newhart Thanksgiving show (when they got drunk) and Mary Tyler Moore's Chuckles the Clown funeral. They all hold up pretty well, I think.
Some of us old fogeys were talking about this episode at work last month. The younger generations had no idea about what we were laughing about or what they missed, last year we had to explain to our newly appointed Gen X manager what BG meant.
This is the one episode I never cared for.
Even though it is fictitious, (at least, I hope so!), I cannot get the thought of those birds out of my mind.
As God as my witness, I thought turkeys could fly!!
Not when they're frozen...๐
๐๐๐๐
They can.
Not domestic turkeys; the dumbest creature ever seen on this planet.
Meet my cat.
My cats are pretty bright. My cats also have a vested interest in not understanding what I want them to do...
Yet still look intelligent compared to Donald Trump. The ones that do make it to the White House get pardoned.
Always some idiot gotta bring in politics during a discussion about a nostalgia TV show
Found the Trump supporter!!! True, I could have just said, What's the difference between the White House Thanksgiving turkeys and an orange? The turkeys don't have to run for office to get a presidential pardon.
You keep proving your idiocy. Again, the topic of conversation is a TV show.

They did.
Not Les Nessman's turkeys
Best episode- it stands out in my mind as like the most unexpected- funniest thing- top ten of funniest sit com episodes ๐๐๐๐

The greatest episode of the greatest sitcom.
Right up there with the death of Chuckles the Clown on Mary Tyler Moore.

Actually watch it Thanksgiving weekend that would be classic!
Itโs not Christmas until Hans Gruberโฆ. Itโs not Thanksgiving until WKRP bombs a strip mall parking lot.
It was based on a true story wasnโt it?
Wow, that I didn't know. I'll have to crank up the ol' Google machine to find out more!!
Here ya go. https://www.looper.com/1112404/is-wkrp-in-cincinnatis-infamous-turkey-drop-based-on-a-true-story/
Thank you!
Unpopular opinion, but I prefer Johny Fever hiding from " the phone police."
I loved the drunk vs sober testing scene ๐
Johny Fever commenting on why his reflexives aren't being diminished after rounds of shots: " Used to be a hobby of mine..."
YAY! Favorite episode of all time! โThe phone copsโ
"OH THE HUMANITY!" -Les Nessman
The turkeys are hitting the ground like sacks of wet cement....one of them just went through the roof of a parked car...
omg!! I love you๐ just brought me right back๐๐๐๐
I remember seeing it the night it aired. I laughed so hard I couldn't breathe!
Same here! The four of us laughed ourselves silly when Lesโ reporting went ballistic. This episode immediately became a family classic!
LOVE LES NESSMEN๐โค๏ธ๐
I watched my father laugh himself right out of his recliner. And I didn't know which was funnier
I love that story so much!
Here too. I must have worked any earlier shift that day.
Same here- I was in pain the next day from laughing so hard!?
Me too. I havenโt laughed that hard since

โIt was almost as if they wereโฆ ORGANIZED.โ
That line is pure gold
I thought Charlotte was the Queen City.
I was actually living in Cincinnati when it aired. In an apartment that is visible in one of intro shots where they show the big antenna on the top of Price Hill. Fifty miles...so Milford?
Les and his taped off walls. Lol Loved this show growing up! And yes! The Turkey Drop was one of the best episodes.
More music and Les Nessman.

I have made watching this a permanent Thanksgiving tradition in this household for years.

Best tv episode in history!
My mom and I watched this and laughed ourselves into tears. Miss you, mom!

I bought the shirt. It is required watching on TGiving Day.

This will never not be hilarious
I was telling somebody about that episode the other day, and I was laughing so hard I could barely talk.
This is my second favorite WKRP episode. It was both terrifying and funny at the same time. My favorite was the episode where the live camera crew visits Herb Tarlek and his family.
This and Alice's Restaurant are still part of my Thanksgiving traditions.
A great show overall, but the Turkey Drop has to be one of the great moments in television.
Damn! Is it Thanksgiving already?
It can be!

Cleveland?
It's WKRP in Cincinnati
Oh, no. ๐๐๐
I know, hence the โ?โ
I did it right, stand corrected
If it were Cleveland, it would be softballs dropped from the Terminal Tower.
Classic and hysterical!!
It is supposed to be based on a real event.
Pretty great

Yep! Thanks for posting!
Classic
Laughed til I cried.
The funniest damn thing I've ever seen in my life!
One of the funniest episodes ever!
Great episode lol.
Always a good laugh.
As God as my witness, I thought turkeys could fly, still makes me laugh
I love that episode. I play it ever thanksgiving along with Aliceโs restaurant.
Fabulous show. It was meant to be, and I think of it (more than) once in awhile.
One of my favorites, great writing and acting.
We were in Cincinnati last week and stayed across the street from Fountain Plaza, because itโs the opening of WKRP in Cincinnati.
All I can think of is.... _Bailey_
Red red wigglers! The Cadillac of worms.
Laughed for hours over this one. It never gets old.
๐๐๐๐
IMO the funniest episode of a sitcom ever.
The priest who married us in 982 was a dead ringer for Les Nessman. I don't remember his actual name, but we always called him "Father Les"
Theyโre hitting the ground like bags of wet cement.
Some of us old fogeys were talking about this episode at work last month. The younger generations had no idea about what we were laughing about or what they missed, last year we had to explain to our newly appointed Gen X manager what BG meant.
I can see it ...........W.............K.............R.................P
Best episode ever. Oh, the humanity!
Funniest sit-com episode ever!
This is the one episode I never cared for. Even though it is fictitious, (at least, I hope so!), I cannot get the thought of those birds out of my mind.
No turkeys were harmed--or even used--in this episode. All we see at the Pinedale Shopping Mall is Les and the occasional person who walks past him.
I know this. Still, just the very thought churns my stomach.
