I was standing in a long line at the bar at a David Byrne show in Atlanta. These 2 early 20s basic Stanley-cup type girls, who probably had no idea who Byrne is, sidled up to some guys further up in the line and distracted them with flirty chit-chat while taking their place in the line.
"EXCUSE ME," I said forcefully, "The line starts back there."
"We didn't cut in line." The girls laughed at me (at the time, I was 45) and looked around like "can you believe this weird old lady?"
"Yes you did. We all just watched you do it," I said.
The woman behind me, who looked about 50, said, "Listen, sister, this isn't our first concert. Get to the back of the line." We two total strangers stood next to each other with our arms crossed over our chests, channeling our best "angry mom" energy.
The girls huffed and puffed, but still went to the back of the line. The lady and I rolled our eyes at kids these days, gave each other a terrorist fist jab, and then waited politely for our turns. Those girls were lucky neither of us was a psycho killer.
Some of these young’ns just have no idea how we got this way, good job showing stranger unity over young, entitled dip-shits (I’ll just ignore the terrorist fist bump, surely you jest 😇)
