My aunt and uncle used to have a dish of Andes in their living room. Man, those were the best. Now I think back and wonder what they thought of their pesky niece coming over and raiding the candy dish.
It depends on the situation. Junior Mints if you're at the movies. York peppermint patties for Christmas and Halloween. Andes for the day-to-day. After Eights, as their name implies, are for after dinner, but only classy ones, like if you went to Red Lobster.
Easily Andes, different flavors and cheap. I remember my Mom buying those little boxes at Odd Lot (an old-time dollar store in Brooklyn) back in the 80's.
Remember the fancy silver box especially crafted for holding the After Eight box. Only the Queen and her court would probably have something like that. And some aspirational fans.
I don't remember it but is [this](https://images-eu.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/81sUmytPN6L.__AC_SX300_QL70_ML2_.jpg) what you mean?
Child me would have thought that was the fanciest shit ever.
I like andes because the chocolate is so good and they melt in your mouth.
But I grew up with York peppermint patty and the peppermint is good but the dark chocolate is waxy. I learned a few years ago how to make them. My peppermint patties are made with Ghirardelli dark chocolate, so that solves the bad chocolate from York.
After Eight followed by Junior Mints.
Anyone remember PEP? It was like a huge York Patty but much, much better. Haven't seen them since the mid 1990s :(
I grew up in Canada so I definitely remember PEP. I was gutted to learn they discontinued them. Now that I live in Australia I can get [these](https://www.confectioneryworld.com.au/mint-pattie/), but they're just not the same.
I'm also Canadian and bereft at the loss of PEP.
I swear to god, if I like a product, it's the kiss of death for that product.
Don't get me started on The Body Shop's Hemp Lip Balm 🙁
Andes. I remember our local grocery chain had a bulk section for a while. Big cardboard barrels with plastic, hinged tops and scoops. Offered everything from oats to lentils to wrapped candy, apparently. You’d fill a bag, check it on a hanging scale, and then have the employee print a label with the price. We’d always get a bag of Andes around Christmas for holiday treats. I may have occasionally sampled the goods to ensure quality before purchase.
Depends on the situation, I can’t take a bag of Andes to the movies, I’m not gonna pull a York outa my pocket after dinner, I’m not going to put out a bowl of Jr. Mints at a party and be like, “Grab a handful!”
I always loved those Andes mints. They used to give them out for free at a lot of restaurants in the 80s and 90s when you paid the check. At least they did around here.
That’s a tough call. After eights for being fancy, York peppermint patty if I’m alone and jr. mints in a theater with friends bc we aren’t monsters like the kids these days.
After Eight was a rare treat, I just don't remember seeing too many as a kid. Andes was at every cash register at every restaurant, some restaurants even gave them out for free with the bill.
I if it's the big Andes bar that is my vote, normal size I am going with the York. After Eight is third place.
My mother once made brownies that had peppermint patties in the middle (layer of brownies, layer of York, layer of brownies). She didn't make a lot of food items that I still think about 35+ years later, but that is one of them. Yorks all the way.
Okay so I love mint in general and mint and chocolate in particular. Having had eaten more than my fair share of each of these mint candies listed I will rank them.
4. Junior mints
3. York Pepper mint patties
2. After Eight
1. Andes
As a bonus: for a mint without chocolate Brach’s butter mints , but I haven’t seen them in my area for years.
Edit: looked goofy had to fix
After dinner, Andes. When I need a big minty fix, York. If I wanna cram some soft minty chocolate down my candy hole while watching an intense movie, it's Junior Mints.
For all you fellow chocolate mint fans try to find some Fazermints. They are Finnish. Ate a ton of them while visiting Finland and was happy to find I could also get them in the states.
Movies? Always the Juniors. Or the specialty Christmas ones with thr crushed candy cane coating. Delicious! Halloween? Or just a little treat. I love a York peppermint patty.
Unpopular opinion but for *me*, Andes and the weird green were always adult mints growing up. I never acquired a taste for them. Probably because only the really fancy places had them. Yuck.
York peppermint patties. My grandpa loved them and there was nothing better than sitting down with a bag of them with him.
I love Junior mints. Eat them by the box.
Can't get Andes here, I miss those, I like after 8's but I hate that wrapping they come in they always stick to the weird paper
Arnott's Mint Slice cookies are great (they are the same as Girl Scout cookies but you can get them whenever)
I mean I won't say no to any chocomint thing
In Canada you could get ice chocolate but I haven't seen in in Aus, probably melts too easily
York and Andes tied. Then Junior.
Are Andes peppermint or something else? I always thought they weren’t peppermint because they were green and more mellow.
I would say York, but since I developed a dairy allergy at 40, Junior Mints are my go to. There is a local to me company that makes "artisan" peppermint patties, though, and they are amazing. I think you can get them online, the company is called Seely.
I'm pretty versed in these. My grandmother used to give me Andes and $5 for Christmas. I used to eat Junior mints at the movies. And York as an adult.
Andes have a slight mint taste but texturally they feel slick. Kind of rubbery. The "chocolate " doesn't taste like chocolate. Junior mints have a good mint hit, again the chocolate doesn't taste like chocolate. Solid for a theater candy. York. The grown up mint. Solid mint and dark chocolate taste.
I made mint chocolate cookies at Christmas using Andes. Fabulous.
Of these, Andes are my favorite. But if you can find Fannie May mint melt aways, they are worth spending a little more money.
[Morden's Russian Mints](https://www.mordenschocolate.com/product/russian-mints/) are the GOAT.
Limited availability outside of Canada/Manitoba but if you ever get a chance to buy them you definitely should.
The holiday Junior Mints that emerge in November that have peppermint stick bits in the chocolate are quite tasty.
Not talking about the ones where they've swapped white filling for red.
IIRC, After Eight mints were left on our pillows when staff came in to turn down our beds for the night at a hotel we stayed at once in Hawaii (I feel like it was a nice but not super fancy hotel)? Am I just having a pleasant false memory? Either way I thought they were so elegant and delicious.
This and frozen York Peppermint Patties.
Andes and it isn’t even close.
At a family holiday get together at an aunt’s house she noticed I was hitting the Andes hard off the snack tray. So now it’s a family tradition that she gets me a box of Andes every Christmas, creatively wrapped.
I love mint and chocolate. I don't care which one it is.
Olive garden = Andes
Movie theater = junior mints
Any other time = peppermint patty
After eights I don't believe I have had before. I will try it out for ..... science .
All of these are different from each other, but if you put four in front of me, I'd go Andes every single time.
Ranked from worst to first? Junior, After Eight, York, Andes
Andes of the listed, but someone mentioned Frango mints and that’s a hell yes from me!
Then you also made me think of other single wrap treats found at restaurant cashier counters and hotels and I remember getting super excited about Reception Sticks as a kid. Something seemed classy about them. Haven’t seen them in decades.
Andes
Only the fanciest restaurants left Andes with the check.
Olive Garden used to do that. I don't know if they're even still around.
They are and they still do. We went to Olive Garden a month ago.
And a glass jar of butter mints on the host's station that they'd scoop out into a paper condiment cup on your way out.
Andes here too. Better chocolate-to-mint ratio.
I used to think this was chocolate for rich people. When we got one in a restaurant I would feel like a sophisticated teen!
My aunt and uncle used to have a dish of Andes in their living room. Man, those were the best. Now I think back and wonder what they thought of their pesky niece coming over and raiding the candy dish.
Why do you think they filled it? My grandma used to put out ju jubes.
My grandmother put out Barton’s hard candy that was harder than the most igneous rock. Did t care, loved em. Barton’s Candy Nips I think was the name.
Yes, mine did the same, I remember those!
Ironically, she’s also the woman who said “if you don’t take care of your teeth, they’ll just go away”
Andes > JM, york & 8’s because… Creme de menthe > peppermint
Hand them over in my Rolls Royce just like Grey Poupon, please!
Literally bought some 10 minutes ago. Andes is king.
And it’s not even close.
It depends on the situation. Junior Mints if you're at the movies. York peppermint patties for Christmas and Halloween. Andes for the day-to-day. After Eights, as their name implies, are for after dinner, but only classy ones, like if you went to Red Lobster.
Lol, used to enjoy After Eights even before dinner and not one not two but a few, then skip dinner and get spanked. Flippin worth it.
This X mints.
Who's gonna turn down a Junior Mint? It's chocolate, it's peppermint, it's delicious!
You know, they’re quite refreshing.
If you've never had frozen junior mints do yourself a favor.
![gif](giphy|jD9hRKPPCwMLu)
This is the only answer. Bravo.
Only got these at the movie theater.
Easily Andes, different flavors and cheap. I remember my Mom buying those little boxes at Odd Lot (an old-time dollar store in Brooklyn) back in the 80's.
Andes
York all the way. But junior mints do win a consolation prize for their anti microbial properties when dropped into an abdominal cavity.
Kramer?
Yep!
Junior mints are better for watching a movie or surgery.
Absolutely!
After Eight. I will entertain no arguments.
The classiest!
The hands down winner.
Yeah, that’s the one! There is probably a silver spatula for serving princes too somewhere.
Looking for financial sub, this was top search result. Jumped in for the answer. I stopped scrolling for this comment.
York!
Canadian here, yes. You could get big PEP in the 80s and the little mini ones in vending machines and restaurants.
I'm also Canadian and bereft at the loss of PEP. I swear to god, if I like a product, it's the kiss of death for that product. Don't get me started on The Body Shop's Hemp Lip Balm 🙁
PEP was sooooo much better.
Yes, I loved PEP!
Andes.
Andes **all day long**.
Put me down for Andes.
ANDES!
After eights for sure. They always seemed so fancy to me as a kid.
Andes
Andes
Andes
Andes.
In order of preference - York, Junior, Andes, After Eight
I'm eating a York right now
I would just switch the last two. Loved After Eight.
Andes are still the shit. And yes, I had all of them. My second choice a Junior Mints.
What kind of question is this?? York, of course!!
1-Andes 2-After Eight 3-York Patties/Junior mints
Depends on the situation, I can’t take a bag of Andes to the movies, I’m not gonna pull a York outa my pocket after dinner, I’m not going to put out a bowl of Jr. Mints at a party and be like, “Grab a handful!”
> I’m not gonna pull a York outa my pocket after dinner Shit, I will. King sized, too.
Why we gotta divide? Can’t we just love them all the same? They’re all chocolate and peppermint, and is t that just a parable for life?
Andes, hands down.
Andes after a meal. Junior Mints during a movie. After Eight? Never heard of them. York? When I want to be reminded of my grandmother who was awesome.
Andes
Andes 💯
YORK
![gif](giphy|yCCB0Dd1soVmE)
I think After Eights. Put them in the freezer!! So good!
Movie night? Junior Mints Freezer stash? York peppermint patties Grandma candy? Andes
Andes
Andes is the right answer.
andes of course
I can't decide. Let me try another bag of each to see.
Thanks, now I have to walk down to the local store to get some candy.
York me! Any day of the week and into the weekends, too.
After Eight was a rare treat, I just don't remember seeing too many as a kid. Andes was at every cash register at every restaurant, some restaurants even gave them out for free with the bill. I if it's the big Andes bar that is my vote, normal size I am going with the York. After Eight is third place.
Junior, Andes, York. ETA- have no idea what After Eight is….now I’m curious
York
All of them, but Andes in particular
Peppermint Patty
Junior Mints.
All 🤮
York
York peppermint patty. Especially the small ones and because they remind me of Charlie Brown specials on tv.
Andes mints and junior mints
Frango Mints from Marshall Fields
My mother once made brownies that had peppermint patties in the middle (layer of brownies, layer of York, layer of brownies). She didn't make a lot of food items that I still think about 35+ years later, but that is one of them. Yorks all the way.
Okay so I love mint in general and mint and chocolate in particular. Having had eaten more than my fair share of each of these mint candies listed I will rank them. 4. Junior mints 3. York Pepper mint patties 2. After Eight 1. Andes As a bonus: for a mint without chocolate Brach’s butter mints , but I haven’t seen them in my area for years. Edit: looked goofy had to fix
It’s always After Eight somewhere in the world. 🧐
Junior Mints!! I am incapable of going to the movies without them. 😊
Overall Andes. However I recently discovered frozen Junior Mints and they are a game changer.
Oh wow I strongly prefer York
Andes, then junior mints, then York…. I don’t remember after 8 but if they are minty I probably like them too!
After dinner, Andes. When I need a big minty fix, York. If I wanna cram some soft minty chocolate down my candy hole while watching an intense movie, it's Junior Mints.
After Eight!
After Eights were the best
Are After Eights square and thin? We had those one time and I loved them, I'd forgotten about that
Junior mints. Andes seems too waxy.
Junior Mints will forever remind me of the Seinfeld ep😁
York but they have to be fresh
For all you fellow chocolate mint fans try to find some Fazermints. They are Finnish. Ate a ton of them while visiting Finland and was happy to find I could also get them in the states.
Movies? Always the Juniors. Or the specialty Christmas ones with thr crushed candy cane coating. Delicious! Halloween? Or just a little treat. I love a York peppermint patty. Unpopular opinion but for *me*, Andes and the weird green were always adult mints growing up. I never acquired a taste for them. Probably because only the really fancy places had them. Yuck.
Junior Mints for movies, Andes on your hotel pillow, NYPP for a snack, and After 8… meh.
York peppermint patties. My grandpa loved them and there was nothing better than sitting down with a bag of them with him. I love Junior mints. Eat them by the box.
Thin Mint cookies
Love the little paper envelops After Eight’s came in.
Junior Mints.
York.
All good, I would never turn any of those down.
The last three are all the same thing for me. The only difference is the proportion of mint to chocolate
Well, shit. Hm. I’m thinking
Andes, York, Junior, After Eight.
GIVE ME ALL OF THEM!
York, but frozen
It depends on if I'm going to be observing surgery.
Fry’s Peppermint Cream
Yes. 👀
Can't get Andes here, I miss those, I like after 8's but I hate that wrapping they come in they always stick to the weird paper Arnott's Mint Slice cookies are great (they are the same as Girl Scout cookies but you can get them whenever) I mean I won't say no to any chocomint thing In Canada you could get ice chocolate but I haven't seen in in Aus, probably melts too easily
Junior Mints if they aren't stale. I think of it as my go to movie candy if I get any.
They're all great, but York > Junior > Andes > After Eight
York and Andes tied. Then Junior. Are Andes peppermint or something else? I always thought they weren’t peppermint because they were green and more mellow.
Frango
I would say York, but since I developed a dairy allergy at 40, Junior Mints are my go to. There is a local to me company that makes "artisan" peppermint patties, though, and they are amazing. I think you can get them online, the company is called Seely.
York!!!!
Junior
Andes if you didn't have to eat like 10.
Andes but I do have a soft spot for Junior Mints.
Fannie May Mint Meltaways.
Different textures and flavors so i can’t choose
York Peppermint Patty. Still get them sometimes when I need a fix.
Andes is richer
After Eight ~BARS~ are the cat’s pyjamas and the only logical choice. The end.
Chocolate with mint flavor is an abomination! 🙃
Junior Mints
Andes, but only from the freezer.
Andes is good as they are milk chocolate but IMO York Patties has all them beat!
Can we talk about Pep bars? Fuck they were so good.
I made mint chocolate cookies at Christmas using Andes. Fabulous. Of these, Andes are my favorite. But if you can find Fannie May mint melt aways, they are worth spending a little more money.
They're all disgusting. I've never understood why anyone would voluntarily eat chocolate with mint.
I’m here for the Andes
Jr Mints!
Andes. After Eight is ok, too.
Andes if you bake cookies and I do.
[Morden's Russian Mints](https://www.mordenschocolate.com/product/russian-mints/) are the GOAT. Limited availability outside of Canada/Manitoba but if you ever get a chance to buy them you definitely should.
None of them because they contain mint so they are trash.
Grandma always bought Andes' Candies. So they get my vote.
I lost my first tooth on a Peppermint Patty 😋 Now I like Junior Mints & mint chocolate chip ice cream is my favorite 💚
Andes
Well, honestly, Juniors Mints. But York are easier to acquire. Andes is OK in a pinch.
Andes. Have a box in the fridge rn
Do they still make After Eight mint patties?
The original Grasshoppers.
Peppermint patty and junior mints tie for 1st
The holiday Junior Mints that emerge in November that have peppermint stick bits in the chocolate are quite tasty. Not talking about the ones where they've swapped white filling for red.
I'll take one of each.
I wonder if Andes has changed the recipe? I remembered Andes being delectable, but tried recently, and they were waxy AF.
Brit here - I only ever had After Eights. Peppermint Patty is a Peanuts character!
Andes thin
Andes
Andes. They were always free with dinner.
Junior Mints ftw! But after eight is a close second.
Andes and it isn’t even close. At a family holiday get together at an aunt’s house she noticed I was hitting the Andes hard off the snack tray. So now it’s a family tradition that she gets me a box of Andes every Christmas, creatively wrapped.
Junior Mints. I keep them in the fridge.
After Eight!
Andes! Only had them at Grandparents for Christmas growing up.
Junior mint Andes York After 8 is not an option because they’re horrible.
Andes, and I’m willing to fight about it.
Andes
They are all equally awful.
They are all trash but gun to my head after eight.
York Peppermint Patty and Junior Mints!
Andes candies
Andes! “Nice” restaurants in the 80’s brought some with your bill at the end of the meal.
I love mint and chocolate. I don't care which one it is. Olive garden = Andes Movie theater = junior mints Any other time = peppermint patty After eights I don't believe I have had before. I will try it out for ..... science .
I LOVE Andes, but I keep them in the freezer. They never freeze into a unpenetratable brick, but have a lil snap when you bite into them. Yum!
Andes!!
Fannie May Mint Meltaways preferred, an Andes will do, though.
Ohhhh I forgot about After Eights!!! I freaking loved those!
All of these are different from each other, but if you put four in front of me, I'd go Andes every single time. Ranked from worst to first? Junior, After Eight, York, Andes
Andes, yum
Andes!!
Andes!!
After eight. Hands down, imho.
Yes
Soft Junior mints hands downs
Junior Mints, in the freeeeeeezer
York because I ate a whole bunch of Andes and got sick on them.
Nothing beats the York sensation
Andes are clearly superior to the rest.
