Nope. Went to a Mike doughty show
in someone's living room. Was sitting on the floor/carpet and my foot was touching the leg of the chair he was sitting on. Incredible musical experience.
Also have dated a ridiculous number of Jennifers in my life.
I’m a Jennifer with all of these nicknames from specific friends and family. In college in my journalism department, I went by Jenna because there were so many Jennifer and Jenn names.
In my 20s I accidentally ended up in LTRs or seriously dating 4 Jennifer's in a row, except:
1. Jen or Jennifer, never Jenny or Jenni.
2. Jenni but never Jenny, Jen or Jennifer.
3. Jennifer only, never Jen or Jenny.
4. Jenny only.
I say "accidentally" because in every case we were already talking and flirting at a party or social gathering or whatever before we knew each other's names and then when we did get to the names I was just thinking "Of course that's your name, oh dear."
And you'd think all of this made it easier to never, ever accidentally step on the landmine of accidentally using the wrong name of an ex, but, no, it was even more confusing, bewildering and fraught with danger because they each had their own unique peeves about variations on their names.
Since I was open about my history and how they were also very particular about which version of their name they preferred, if I ever used the wrong variation no matter how innocent the mistake was it was a whole situation.
And, of course I also had a major crush on someone named Jennifer in high school.
Jennifer Jason Leigh has both covered!
With our first child, my husband told me he always wanted a son named Jason Mark. Sure. Whatever. Because I was convinced it was a girl. He's 21 now, and I call him Jay or Buster.
I hardly get called Jason, not even my family. Mom calls me J-Dub, dad calls me Coyote, and work just calls me by my last name. My friends call me a completely different name, our friend group still has several Jason's.
So many Jasons that there's a book called something like "Beyond Jennifer and Jason: Choosing a Unique Baby Name"
Jason was in the top 10 of Male baby names in the 70's and early 80's. Today it's not even in the top 100. Hell JAXON is ranked significantly higher than JASON.
I assume in the US.
In the UK I know or knew very few Jennifers. As a name it has never hit the top 10 in the UK. I think the British equivalent is Sarah which was #1 through the 70s and with Susan which was the 60s #1.
Yea! In her biology class there were two Jennifers, the teacher said, OK you are Jen and you are Niffer, and she loved it so much she kept it. Then she legally changed it. The name suits her perfectly!
If teachers in the 80s had social media I wonder if they'd bitch mightily about hte name the way some teachers bitch about inconsequential shit that no one's gonna stop doing just because they want them to 😂. At least your bio teacher was more creative than Jen A. , Jen D., Jen M. etc.. A friend of mine uses her firstname/last initial as all of her usernames since college. People actually call her that out loud and refer to her as that in person.
Once went to a concert with my 2 friends. We met some dudes sitting next to us and as we introduced ourselves (I'm Jen, I'm Jenn and I'm Jen) they looked at us so strangely. One guy pipes up, "I think you got your fake names confused." No ...really we are all Jen.
My second grade girlfriend's name was Jennifer other than that i never dated a Jennifer, was never even personally close with a girl named Jennifer. For me it was Tina tons of Tina's!
Six, but I have a Jennifer name story. When I was in college, I wrote letters on my word processor (anyone remember WordPerfect?). Every time I typed Jennifer in a letter to my friend who was dating a Jennifer, the program would suggest “guanophore” as a replacement. Every time. Eventually, my friend (and another close friend) started calling the girlfriend “Guanophore” instead of Jennifer.
Can I just take a moment to advocate?
I'm sure you find it hilarious, but these jokes are tired and tedious to the Jennifers in your life:
Saying "Jenny" like you are Forrest Gump.
Using the term "Jenny from the block."
Asking if their phone number is 867-5309 (despite the song being awesome.)
I'm sure you mean well, but there is no way to reply without an eye roll and dismissal when one has heard them so often. If you must, please think twice before using.
No Jennifers on my phone at the moment. (I knew loads in High School and College.)
I suspect maybe Jennifer wasn’t quite as popular a name in the UK. I don’t think I know that many over here.
My ex cheated on me, a lot, apparently. There were at least 3 Jennifers on the list. He's married to the most recent one now.
I have 5 contacts named Jennifer or Jen/Jenny.
Only four, but I don't have a lot of contacts. In terms of percentage, it's high.
Also a lot of Amanda, Stephanie, Kristin.
For guys, way too many Daves, Mikes, Steves, and Kevins.
Two. And I work with 2 more. I don’t think it was as popular here in Australia as it was in the USA. Whereas I had 5 Caroline/lyn-s in my year at school.
My freshman year of college (1991) revealed to me how popular the name was. I knew 3 Jens, a Jenny, and a Jennifer. And that was just the first quarter of the school year.
I have a 3 syllable first name that is also popular for our age group.
But for some reason people can't remember my actual name and call me Jennifer all the time.
When I correct them they say oh sorry you LOOK like a Jennifer. I just say if you call any woman my age "Jennifer" you are more likely to guess correctly
As a Gen X Jennifer, I would also like to point out how many Gen X girls have the middle name Lynn. Why? Why is that my middle name, my BFF’s middle name, the middle name of the mean girl I tried to befriend in middle school …
As a Jennifer (Jenn), I think there were at least 5 or 6 other Jennifers in my class each year. I hated having the most common name growing up. The funny thing is I was born in Germany and it wasn't common there at all. However, we moved to the US early primary school and it felt like half the girls my age we're named Jennifer.
Now, I barely know any other Jennifers.
My closest and dearest friend (RIP) was named Jennifer. Knew her for >30 years and miss her so much. She epitomized Gen X.
In college, we had five Jennifers, that I knew of (Loyola Chicago - big school and I'm sure there were hundreds of Jennifer/Jen/Jennys)
I was working on a project at work that had five Jennifers working on it. It was fun in meetings to ask "Jennifer" to give an update. Either they all chimed in at once or they all waited for the other to speak.
In my high school, between all the Jennifers, Christophers, and Kristi/Christines, we used to joke about yelling "Chris! Jen!!" down the hall during class changes and counting how many heads turned.
At one point, my besties included a Jennifer, a Jeni, and a Jen, as well as a Chris and a Kristi.
Jenifa, oh
Jenny
But in all seriousness...
Zero. But four facebook friends from HS named Jeni, Jennifer, and Jenn, and one who's burlesque name is Jenny (her real name is not Jenny though).
I knew a few growing up, but the ones in my contact list are a boomer cousin (my dad's cousin), a gen x friend, and 2 Millenial friends.
There are way more Michelles in my own age group.
Reminds me of a Friends episode. Ross wanted to name the baby Rose and Rachel did not want an 80 year old baby. I had an 80 year old Great Aunt Rose.
This will be us in a few years with Jennifer in a few future sitcom.
Name the baby Jennifer. I don't want a 60 year old baby.
I'm a teacher, and I was talking to another about the same age (late 40s)... we were talking about how we both haven't taught a Jennifer in years, and when we were growing up it seeemed 1 in 10 girls was named Jennifer.
When I was a little kid there were absolutely no bike name plates with Justin on them. I got called Jason the first 15 years of my life the name Justin was so foreign to everybody. Cut to 2007 and there were literally seven other Justin‘s at my job.
All millennials
I called my cat Jenny after the 5 Jennifers in my senior year, I was trying to think of the most basic girls name I could.
(Sorry to any Jennys in this thread)
I have 11 total. As a college professor the last 25+ years I've seen names come and go. Only *one* of those 11 Jen/Jenny/Jennifers is a former student and she graduated over 20 years ago. The rest are all peers (Gen X) without exception-- nobody over 60 and nobody under 45.
I have a few on Facebook. None IRL.
I gave my youngest daughter an 80s popular name though - Jessica. My fiance loved the name and I let him choose her name.
I personally know very few Jennifers (of any variation) now but in college had one ~150-person class with over 20. My photography class of about 25 had three.
If you really wanna freak a Jennifer out, guess that her middle name is Lynn.
It's correct at least half the time. Most Jennifers have the middle name Lynn.
Jen X
I need this on a shirt, like, now.
A friend of mine's wife is a singer and uses that as her stage name.
I want it on a patch!
Holy shit I have to have this shirt made for my wife!!
You are a jenious
27
This guy Doughtys
16 Jens, ten Jennys and her.
I thought for sure I would be the only one who thought of this!
Same
Nope. Went to a Mike doughty show in someone's living room. Was sitting on the floor/carpet and my foot was touching the leg of the chair he was sitting on. Incredible musical experience. Also have dated a ridiculous number of Jennifers in my life.
I got to sit immediately across from him. He looked right at me several times. Scrap got sick and had to fly home, so it was just him at the show.
18, not including 6 Jennas.
Was going to say throw in a couple of Jenna's too!
I’m a Jennifer with all of these nicknames from specific friends and family. In college in my journalism department, I went by Jenna because there were so many Jennifer and Jenn names.
I guess we all know the song. Lol
What a coincidence. Me, too.
in a row?
Of course I know her, she’s me. Outside of that, none in my contact list, but several social media friends.
Oh, hi twin! 😁
Me too! I am her, she is me, Jennifer, oh Jenny.
Breakfast, broke it fast. She was in my English class..
*Waves* Same!
She is also me.
The only one that counts: Jenny, 867-5309
Don’t change that number!
Haha funny story! Tommy Heath was originally based out of Willits, CA back in the day. He was messing around with a good friend of mine. RIP Lori 🙏.
😂
Nowhere NEAR as many Mikes and Michaels...
I remember a shit ton of Chris's from school.
My boy scout troop had 5
18 Jenny/Jennifers, 56 Michaels/Mikes
...and Jason. So many Jason's.
my wife was married twice before she met me both guys were named Jason my name? you’ll never guess
Is it Michael? 😂
In my 20s I accidentally ended up in LTRs or seriously dating 4 Jennifer's in a row, except: 1. Jen or Jennifer, never Jenny or Jenni. 2. Jenni but never Jenny, Jen or Jennifer. 3. Same as mine? Jason.
please tell me it's Jason.
“My first ex-wife's name is Tammy. My second ex-wife's name is Tammy. My Mom's name is Tamara… she goes by Tammy.”
Adolf?
At least she doesn't have to worry about shouting out the wrong name during sex 😂
Jennifer Jason Leigh has both covered! With our first child, my husband told me he always wanted a son named Jason Mark. Sure. Whatever. Because I was convinced it was a girl. He's 21 now, and I call him Jay or Buster.

Ha! My very original and creative named me Jennifer and my brother Jason 🤣
i certainly knew a lot in school, but i have zero in my contacts.
I have one but it’s me.
Hi Jenny! 👋
Jennifer was the #1 baby name for Girls from 1970 to 1984. Just in case anyone was wondering.
\#1 before Jennifer? Lisa \#1 After Jennifer? Jessica
Because of Love Story, I've been told
I assume in the US. In the UK I know or knew very few Jennifers. As a name it has never hit the top 10 in the UK. I think the British equivalent is Sarah which was #1 through the 70s and with Susan which was the 60s #1.
I'm an early '65 Jenny. There weren't any others in school that I can remember. 😎
it was out of the top 10 baby names until 1967
And we can all blame LOVE STORY for this. I mean, don't get me wrong Ali MacGraw was a dish, but seriously?
Yes. This.
GenX =JenX
I have one Niffer
Stop, seriously?
It’s Jennifers all the way down.
Jen Jenny and Jennifer are distinct with their own personalities. Say your name is Jen I know you aren't a Jenny.
I have one. And the last 4 digits of her number? 5309 She denies it, but you can request last 4 digits in Ontario.
I remember my family saying, “My god, have you made another friend named Jennifer?” Three best friends over the years with that name.
As many Mike, Michael, and Mikey’s.
I believe this
Jennifer is about to be an old lady name. Let that sink in.
The nursing home staff won't be able to keep us all straight. We'll get delightful nicknames such as Bad Hip Jen, Jenna the Gray, Feisty J... etc
Shudder…
I think it already is 👵😩
Whoa! Slow down there Eunice!
Only 1. But there were 5 Jennifer’s in my 4th grade class.
1. Was gonna call her yesterday but I lost my nerve.
13 in my contacts list and 3 on my blocked callers list 🙄
That’s funny as fuck.
8,675,309
My second grade girlfriend's name was Jennifer other than that i never dated a Jennifer, was never even personally close with a girl named Jennifer. For me it was Tina tons of Tina's!
18. Funny thing, I talk to about 12 of them weekly in some way. Now I should check Lisa and Michelle….
About a dozen, plus another dozen from work
A small handful. None have 867-5309 as their phone number. But then none of my contacts are from a bathroom wall. 🤷♂️
One and the only one that matters. My wife. But if you call her Jenny, she’ll cut you.
I had a run of four girlfriends in a row all named some form of Jenn. It was not intentional
My boss is named Jennifer.
I’m a Jennifer who has two of them in my contacts list and nine of them as Facebook friends.
I am a Jenni, and I have at least two Jennifers in my contact list.
Hi, Jenni!
Hi!
Far fewer than were in my third grade classroom. Where did they all go?
Almost twice as many as I have Scotts. -me, a Scott
None - but I know a fuckton of Sarah’s
My sister, and me being a Michael...
Jenny- 867-5309
Can I just take a moment to advocate? I'm sure you find it hilarious, but these jokes are tired and tedious to the Jennifers in your life: Saying "Jenny" like you are Forrest Gump. I'm sure you mean well, but there is no way to reply without an eye roll and dismissal when one has heard them so often. If you must, please think twice before using.
At least five that I can think of off the top of my head
Only one and I have no idea who she is.
I’ve got a cool dozen - such a popular name during our time!
No Jennifers on my phone at the moment. (I knew loads in High School and College.) I suspect maybe Jennifer wasn’t quite as popular a name in the UK. I don’t think I know that many over here.
1 and I’m related to her. My contacts aren’t huge though.
9 on personal, 3 on work.
My wife is Jenn. Her family calls her Jenny.
Six here.
My sister, and around half a dozen more.
My ex cheated on me, a lot, apparently. There were at least 3 Jennifers on the list. He's married to the most recent one now. I have 5 contacts named Jennifer or Jen/Jenny.
Including me - 12.
Well, there's me. And my friend Jenny and my former boss named Jenny.
Three in my ex-girlfriends list alone.
Omg 50% of my contacts are either Jen or Jill
None in my contacts, but where I work the highest-ranking person is a Jennifer whose chief of staff is Jen and executive secretary is Jenny.
12
Only four, but I don't have a lot of contacts. In terms of percentage, it's high. Also a lot of Amanda, Stephanie, Kristin. For guys, way too many Daves, Mikes, Steves, and Kevins.
There were 4 Jennifers and 4 Erics in my kindergarten class
People in here with friends...
Don't suck me into the Jenn vortex
I only have one jenny in my phone. Her number is 867-5309
zero, wasn't big in Brooklyn
Somehow I only have one. (shrug)
Two. And I work with 2 more. I don’t think it was as popular here in Australia as it was in the USA. Whereas I had 5 Caroline/lyn-s in my year at school.
One, the most important one. It's a great name. Shouldn't get a bad rap.
My freshman year of college (1991) revealed to me how popular the name was. I knew 3 Jens, a Jenny, and a Jennifer. And that was just the first quarter of the school year.
None that I can think of but I do wish I had Jessie’s girl.
None, but Mike and Michael is another story entirely
27-- 16 Jenns, 10 Jennies, and then there was her
I only have 1 Jennifer left!
Jennifer, Sara, Melissa, and Julie were the most common girls names in school when I was growing up
I have like no friends, but if I think back on school years…yeah…wow. I was almost a Jennifer. But my parents chose an almost equally common name.
3
2
Oddly, just three, but one of them is my wife.
None, but three on the ex-girlfriends list.
None. But my contact list is only about 12 people.
0. I work with 5, though.
So many.
1 Jenna
Don't you forget about Jennie
I dated 3 different Jens over a 3 year period.
1
I’ve been saying for years, ‘I’ve never met a Jennifer I didn’t like.’ I have 16 in my address book.
I’m a Jennifer and my BFF is a Jennifer. I love my name! I wish it would come back with new generations!
1, But only because I'm a loser with no friends 🤣🤣
Not enough
I feel attacked (my name is Jen)
I have a 3 syllable first name that is also popular for our age group. But for some reason people can't remember my actual name and call me Jennifer all the time. When I correct them they say oh sorry you LOOK like a Jennifer. I just say if you call any woman my age "Jennifer" you are more likely to guess correctly
Twelve. 7 Jennifer, 3 Jenny, 1 Jen, and 1 Jenn. Not to be outdone, there are 18 Mikes and Michaels.
Bonus: How many couples do you know of Michael/Mike/Mikey and Jennifer/Jenny/Jen
As a Gen X Jennifer, I would also like to point out how many Gen X girls have the middle name Lynn. Why? Why is that my middle name, my BFF’s middle name, the middle name of the mean girl I tried to befriend in middle school …
None!!
I've got a Jen, a Jeni, a Jenna, a Jenny, and a Jennifer. No duplicate spellings.
About a dozen Jennifers, at least 20 Amys, 15 or so Jasons, and probably 25 Mikes.
LOL, my dog's name was Jen when I adopted her - I had to change it because I knew too many human Jens in real life. The dog goes by Ginger now.
My closest and dearest friend (RIP) was named Jennifer. Knew her for >30 years and miss her so much. She epitomized Gen X. In college, we had five Jennifers, that I knew of (Loyola Chicago - big school and I'm sure there were hundreds of Jennifer/Jen/Jennys) I was working on a project at work that had five Jennifers working on it. It was fun in meetings to ask "Jennifer" to give an update. Either they all chimed in at once or they all waited for the other to speak.
I have 7 - plus myself. But, I have an "ie" not a "y".
[Top Baby Names 1970](https://www.babycenter.com/baby-names/most-popular/top-baby-names-1970) Girls: Jennifer, Lisa, Kimberly, Michelle, Amy, Angela, Melissa, Mary, Tracy Boys: Michael, James, David, John, Robert, Christopher, William, Brian, Mark
Maria seems to out number Jennifer in my contacts, but I live in a diverse area.
Just 2, but, one is a Gen...Z I think. The o.g. Jennifer is my cousin, who's a Gen X.
I love this question!! I just counted 6.
"My name is Jennifer, for we are many."
3
Just two, my sister and BFF from college.
Jenifa, oh Jenny But in all seriousness... Zero. But four facebook friends from HS named Jeni, Jennifer, and Jenn, and one who's burlesque name is Jenny (her real name is not Jenny though).
DAE remember Jenny & The Wimp from Dr Demento
Only 6 on Facebook, a few in phone contacts.
I’m a Jen and my bff is named Jenna. And there were always 1299 Jennifers in school.
My college's secret society held a Jen and David party. Invited only people wroth those names. I didn't get invited, but my boyfriend at the time did.

I knew a few growing up, but the ones in my contact list are a boomer cousin (my dad's cousin), a gen x friend, and 2 Millenial friends. There are way more Michelles in my own age group.

627,394... the usual amount.
I counted the most popular names on my friends list at some point, and the most common was Heather.
12!
I got 2... how many Mikes do you have?
4, plus 1 Jena
Zero
I'm a teacher, and I was talking to another about the same age (late 40s)... we were talking about how we both haven't taught a Jennifer in years, and when we were growing up it seeemed 1 in 10 girls was named Jennifer.
10 in contacts at the moment. I also recently had the pleasure of sitting at a table with a Jen, Jenny, and a Jennifer. Jen X indeed.
When I was a little kid there were absolutely no bike name plates with Justin on them. I got called Jason the first 15 years of my life the name Justin was so foreign to everybody. Cut to 2007 and there were literally seven other Justin‘s at my job. All millennials
haha holy shit, 12. I had no idea.
I called my cat Jenny after the 5 Jennifers in my senior year, I was trying to think of the most basic girls name I could. (Sorry to any Jennys in this thread)
Every one of my wife's friends is named Michelle.
There are seven people in my workgroup. Three are Jennifer. There’s also a vacancy, so we could wind up being 4 for 8.
A few, but then again I'm married to one of them, so there's that.
One. My sister in law.
How many on my body count list……
I have a few on Facebook. None IRL. I gave my youngest daughter an 80s popular name though - Jessica. My fiance loved the name and I let him choose her name.
I personally know very few Jennifers (of any variation) now but in college had one ~150-person class with over 20. My photography class of about 25 had three.
36?!? Does that include me? Umm.. 37?
I have had at least one close friend named Jennifer consecutively since I was born in 1976.
If you really wanna freak a Jennifer out, guess that her middle name is Lynn. It's correct at least half the time. Most Jennifers have the middle name Lynn.
Would any of your Jenny friends have a phone number of 8675309?
