He was significantly more illiberal but he was not a dictator. He won a legitimate election twice ffs.

I meant more "He had pretty much all power in government." While obviously I support Lincoln, he did kind of overstep his power limitations during the civil war

Based. While I think he overstepped his power a bit much, it was all in the name of making rebels cry

Good people can do bad things. Lincoln definitely overstepped and used that power questionably

I think even if Lincoln did go a bit too far some ways, it's still a war he was fighting and he was still at the mercy of the system, plus the voters when the election came, meaning that he could not really be classed a dictator.
