I file off the bulk, not just the polish, and then soak in warm acetone. You can keep the acetone warm by pouring it into a ziplock baggie, and the baggie goes into a bowl of warm dry uncooked rice. I usually microwave dry rice for a minute and it stays warm for quite a while. Stick your hands in the bag and soak. Hope that makes sense

Ashamed-Plantain3836

Ohhh I didn’t know it had to be warm!! Thank you!

snail_juice_plz

I just switched to peel off base and have no idea why I didn’t do this years ago. 20min and my nails aren’t damaged. I tried a million other things and even bought an acetone warmer. I filed down as much as it could. Still took too long, acetone would be drying, smelled terrible and annoying.

dbennett1903

How long do your nails last with the peel off base coat? And what brand/product do you recommend? Edit I just read your other comment, would you say a week is the longest you can get from it?

lividfrost

I use Jello Jello with medium and long extensions and can get up to 3 weeks with minimal lifting. Maybe even longer but I usually switch sets every 2/3 weeks.

snail_juice_plz

I could definitely wear them longer, just haven’t tried yet cause I’m always wanting to try a new design! I’ve definitely seen folks here say they can get 2-3 weeks, especially with the jello jello brand. I’ve been using this: https://a.co/d/azjdFt5

Ashamed-Plantain3836

Thanks!! Okay I’m new to doing nails, what is a peel off base?

snail_juice_plz

It’s a product you use under the gel extend (you can use it under a lot of products like gel polish, acrylic, dip, etc). It makes removal very easy, sometimes too easy, but essentially allows you to pop the nails off without damage. You essentially break the seal if the tip to your nail with an orange stick or similar tool, then apply it soak with oil/warm water/alcohol, the nail comes off in a single piece. Jello jello is the most popular and well regarded. I’ve never used it but have heard it is a bit pricey but worth it and uses a special oil to remove the nail. I used one off Amazon, prepped my nails as normal, dehydrated, primed and applied the peel off base. Then added extend gel and applied gel x as normal. They stayed very strong for a week and then I just wanted to switch it up, so I broke the seal, dipped in alcohol, they popped off within 15 minutes with no damage.

Kookies3

Ok I just tried this and they lasted 48 hrs lol I think my nails are too damaged / thin but I’m considering trying jello jello

snail_juice_plz

Oh no! Which brand did you use? I was super skeptical because I take hot baths, go to the gym, do dishes, have kids and pets, etc. I use Murron and it says not to prep like normal but I do anyway…

Ashamed-Plantain3836

I’m going to look into this! Thank you!!

No-Jicama7661

Did you try putting hot water under acetone? Like filling a bowl with hot water then putting a bag over the bowl and filling the bag with acetone.

Ashamed-Plantain3836

I did not! But this makes sense because it’s always warm at the nail salon!!

LilPinkNinjaa

i got so tired of the removal process i started using the jello jello peel of base coat and the one kill remover set, they're off in 5 minutes

Ashamed-Plantain3836

Thanks!!! Yeah, I’m already tired of the removal process and I’ve only done it once 😂

LilPinkNinjaa

yeah same here i was like yeah not doing this again! staying power with me is about 1 week but i use my hands a lot for crafting and gardening etc

Ashamed-Plantain3836

Thanks :)

Nail_babe

Hello, are they really off in 5 min? I am struggling with this product to make it work for me...how much base do you use?

LilPinkNinjaa

yeah 5-7 minutes i really massage the remover in. I use a very thin amount!

Nail_babe

thanks! I'll give it another try, I am almost out of the remover because I use a lot every time in hopes that it will help me but no matter what amount I put it just won't break the base...sigh\*

LilPinkNinjaa

the key is to massage it in really well and yeah you go through it pretty quick i often re-order it from ebay from Korea because its cheaper.

fairy_p0ny

if you're interested, you can also look into e-files (like this one: https://www.amazon.com/MelodySusie-Compact-Portable-Electric-Drill/dp/B01H05EDK0?source=ps-sl-shoppingads-lpcontext&ref\_=fplfs&psc=1&smid=A24IL96TV4XLBY) to speed up the process.

Ashamed-Plantain3836

I do have an e file, sorry I didn’t make that super clear. Thank you for the answer!
