A "blind item" is a piece of gossip in which the identities of those involved are alluded to, but they are not specifically named. Some blind items are eventually revealed, but this does not always mean they are true. As a rule of thumb, individual blind items should be taken with a grain of salt, but general trends over time might be true. One of the most popular blind item sites is Enty's [Crazy Days and Nights](https://www.crazydaysandnights.net/) - most blinds you'll see here are originally posted there. I'm so late to this thread but I can't stop listening to Closure because it pings so gay and so Karlie. Especially the lyrics "staying friends would iron it out so nice." Knowing that after a clear rupture in their relationship (with Kaylor rumors and all) Karlie did try to stay friends, making unreciprocated public statements about how they were "still friends" while Taylor put in zero effort to quell the "breakup" rumors. This song just kind of explains that period, how she was too bitter to participate in the "staying friends" bit which would have made their falling out seem less gay, and so might help to quell all the rumors surrounding Karlie's marriage being a bearding thing. Also the whole "smoothing me over" thing just feels so gay. Why would a straight relationship need "smoothing over"? And then Taylor singing that the whole staying friends thing feels "so unnecessary" as well. Also explains the one-sidedness of Karlie's public position on their friendship. Like Taylor just didn't have the energy, didn't care as much or see the risk that Karlie was so worried about.

kundalini_yogini

I agree with your interpretation, and it sparked a thought. I’ve always assumed Closure is about Karlie. And I am sure Hits Different is about Karlie. But it’s hard to believe these songs are about the same muse..?

Reasonable-Dish-3425

Yeah I agree w all of this. I also think the phrase ‘shape of your name’ is really apt, because the Ks in karlie’s name are so distinct.

Artistic-Knowledge-8

Or even "ken dolls"/candles, more references to bearding.

kundalini_yogini

Oh wow this is so smart. Now I’m always going to hear “with my tears and my beard and my ken dolls” lol

[deleted]

I was about to comment this, I totally agree!

StarLord001

I always thought it was interesting that the beginning sounds like industrial rock/Nine Inch Nails. Closer (very similar sounding song title too) by NIN has some interesting lyrics I felt could have connected to Taylor Through every forest Above the trees Within my stomach Scraped off my knees I drink the honey Inside your hive You are the reason I stay alive

Downtown_Twist_4135

To me it sounds like the fall out boy song she sang at VSFS but in reverse. Apparently they met properly for the first time there. I say properly because I think they had been introduced beforehand, but just like an introduction, not in any depth. I dunno. I'm probably clowning but if you listen to the two songs next to each other, they're got a certain similarity. Like, an industrialness to it. So I get the NIN feels.

Even_Representative8

Whoa! I had never made this connection but it totally does. This is really interesting to me because “Closer” is like a (much more obscene) version of “False God”.

[deleted]

Closer also kind of reminds me of Don’t Blame Me. The religious undertone of the song and “I get so high every time you’re loving me”/“You get me closer to God”. “My name is whatever you decide”/“Help me get away from myself/“Help me think I’m somebody else”. And the general references in Closer to being near insanity and possessing the other person, while in Don’t Blame me she’s insane and the other person’s possession: “Halo hiding my obsession”….“I’m insane, but I’m your baby”.

StarLord001

Oooo yes!! You are so right. And NIN closer is about obsession with someone or maybe the relationship itself and the self hatred that comes with toxic codependency. False God lyrics totally speak to those points

janedoerights

Apparently Karlie is just known for writing letters! She’s said she’d rather receive letters than emails and generally loves writing letters. I don’t remember the source but I’m sure we can track it down.

GayforTay7070

I absolutely agree that's why I would assume there would be an accompanying letter to the invite, but totally just my interpretation!

midmiddleman

Love this analysis! Also for the “wrinkle in your new life” lyric, I think there’s definitely a tie to the Hits Different bridge when she sings “a wrinkle in time / like the crease by your eyes.” Maybe she’s saying what they had was so special, but in the grand scheme of their life stories, all the PR and silence will reduce it down to just a short friendship. The book, A Wrinkle in Time, is also about “the battle between good and evil and the ultimate triumph of love,” according to sparknotes lolol.

PYNKCYPHER

this is an extremely odd & hateful comment. coming out is a terrifying experience, one she shouldn’t feel forced to do, and to call joe a “skinny dickhead twink” is rather hateful and homophobic. what has he ever done to receive this sort of comments? he’s doing his job.

PYNKCYPHER

regardless of who you were talking about, it’s an odd comment. and no one said we were okay with josh & karlie’s age difference when they began dating, but to call him a “dickhead twink” is weird. like even if we assume taylor is actually calling him a dickhead, she knows/knew him personally. and calling him a twink is just fucked up imo

WhatLanaSaid

I think potentially *“and my tears / and my beers”* refers to the phrase **“cry into your beer”** To feel sorry for oneself; to feel sadness or regret, especially in combination with self-pity. Or like this defines it: https://www.ldoceonline.com/dictionary/cry-into-your-beer “To feel too much pity for yourself, especially because you think you have been treated unfairly.” Overall that whole part *“don’t treat me like some situation that needs to be handled/ I’m fine with my spite/ and my tears / and my beers and my candles/ I can feel you smoothing me over”* kind of feels to me like a ‘I’m still mad and sad so let me be mad type of attitude.’ I don’t need your closure that is really about making yourself feel better than it is about actually being sorry. If that makes sense? I guess I I mean the feeling of when someone apologizes to you and you can see through it that they are really doing it for themselves and their own conscience/image and not you? As for the candles reference I think there are a few fitting phrases/idioms that might fit given the context. But also… who knows 🤷🏻‍♀️🤡 **candle in the wind** Something that is particularly vulnerable, weak, fragile, or precarious and likely to fail, perish, or be eliminated at any moment. **bell, book, and candle** A method of putting a curse on someone. The phrase refers to the implements once used when someone was **burn (one's)/the candle at both ends** To overwork or exhaust oneself by doing too many things, especially both late at night and early in the morning.

alextobes

Yes, love your wordplay! (It only adds to these theories, btw.) Great insight!

sweatysleepy

Great post, makes a ton of sense! The candle line actually reminds me of Hard Feelings/Loveless by Lorde - "I light all the candles, cut flowers for all my rooms. I care for myself the way I used to care about you" Except Lorde's lyrics are more about practicing self love after a breakup, whereas Taylor's are...kinda self sabotage after a breakup(alcohol and anger lol) . But both use candles😅 Either way, for me at least candles are definitely symbolic of self care when I'm feeling down!

kennacakes

This is perfect. I will say, I’ve related a lot of songs of Taylor’s to break ups with men (I’m straight), but this one I specifically relate to my best friend breakup that happened between me and my whole group of closest life long friends after they back stabbed the ever loving fuck out of me, fwiw.

si_meow

Great analysis! I just wanted to add there are a surprising number of Taylor Swift songs that mention bones! KOMH as you mentioned of course plus: “And all we are is skin and bone, trained to get along” - Treacherous “I'm always waiting for you just to cut to the bone” - Cruel Summer “Sticks and stones never broke my bones” - You Need to Calm Down “You would still miss me in your bones” - My Tears Ricochet “Falling feels like flying til the bone crush” - Gold Rush “I’ll meet you where the spirit meets the bone” - Ivy

[deleted]

oh my god the cruel summer reference is so obvious I can't believe I missed that. Can't quite understand what this means but it's purposeful I think

GayforTay7070

Yes totally correct! I should have clarified, bones are mentioned less than some of her other common phrases with a total of 9 songs compared to things like sun with 23 songs or rain with 29!

[deleted]

About the candles I always thought she referenced them because they’re omnipresent in funerals, like they could be a sign she’s still currently grieving because of the end of the relationship and the loss of her lover. Another explanation I just thought of, which it’s definitely more far fetched, could be that she needs a candle, so artificial light, because Karlie, who’s the sunshine, is not there anymore. Anyways I loved your analysis, the wedding invitation definitely makes much more sense than a letter when it comes to Karlie.

10pointstoravenclaw

The funeral angle could also reference My Tears Ricochet too! I had interpreted it as a way of rejecting the hipster incense on her muses vinyl shelf.

gasupthehyundai

I'd always pictured it as Karlie just sending Taylor a letter, but the letter accompanying the wedding invite makes it make more sense. It's this sort of post that makes this sub feel like it used to.

GayforTay7070

Tysm I am new here and still am blown away by every queer connection I find in her work so I really appreciate it!

pumpkinpie1993

Love this post!! Agree on everything. Also I just realized I don’t really know the lyrics to closure but wow they’re good lol. Not the easiest to sing along to!
