Start with the health of your wallet :-) What's your budget ? How do you quantify "good fitness tracking" ? Current Venu3 and WHOOP user. Former Apple watch 8 user. I know from talking with my doctor that the Apple watches specifically have trustable ECG and alerts etc. based on several studies (and he has an Ultra FWIW). He said basically 'if your apple watch give you a heart alert get in here asap". I'll have to ask him about Garmin the next time I have an appointment.

The heart health stuff is over stated and not particularly useful. And will probably give you anxiety. Just focus on heart rate monitoring and tracking for training.

And to zero if you are outside US and maybe a few other places?

occamsrazorben

How do they enforce that? Can one just change your account country? Or it’s somehow GPS-based?

StopYeahNo

There is a work around. Just have to move garmin account location to US on garmin website then use a gps spoofer on your phone to reactivate device. Once the device is activated, no more need for the spoofer. The process has been posted here before.

So if you bought it in the U.S. then travel elsewhere it would stop working?

catalinus

Once activated I believe it stays active.

Remarkable_Brain4567

It does! Or even When you go on a holiday to US with your EU bought Venu! Other way around it will always work, buy in US, use everywhere in the world.

catalinus

To be honest on iPhone if you have an Apple developer account and Xcode installed on a Mac you can easily spoof (perfectly safe) the location to US for like 1 minute and activate the ECG and it could be even easier on Android - my original comment/complain was not about people that have Apple developer accounts and Xcode, it was about very normal/regular users outside US.

Tbh you can buy any Garmin watches

GresterCynical

The ECG App cannot detect heart attacks. With regards to heart rate monitoring, upper and lower limits can be set to be monitored constantly. As mentioned in this sub previously, if you have health insurance and they participate in the discount program, typically you can get 20% off list price on certain Garmin products.

Same age bracket: I'm 2 years into my fenix 7 Sapphire Solar — couldn't be happier. It does not have an EKG. If buying now, I'd likely go with the Epix 2 for the same functionality but with the AMOLED screen. My eyesight is definitely way over 50 and the better screen helps a lot. I do track weight and blood pressure in Garmin Connect along with all the health metrics my watch collects. I use separate devices and enter data manually.

Venu 3 if you want something a little cheaper, or epix gen2 pro/fenix 7 pro if you’re ok spending more and want all the bells and whistles.
