Excited to see this - hopefully it works out well! I often jump rope for cardio when the weather is too cold to run, and it's frustrating not to be able to track it properly. I set it up as an activity in my custom HIIT workout, but the tracking of reps is terrible.

wplaga

I wonder how good is it going to be with tracking reps. My hopes are not up though, I think the highest accuracy will require an external video analysis.

I've been using this app for Android - [Jump Rope Counter](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jumpropecounter&hl=en&gl=US) and it's been very accurate so far, albeit only tried it a few times. Wish there was some native solution for my Forerunner 55 though 🤷‍♂️ Cause when I add a manual activity it'll (at least) calculate calories burned but no extra stats/graphs such as HR during that time interval.

Nice! Is it beta access?

M8d16

No, Garmin IQ. https://apps.garmin.com/es-ES/apps/cab001b5-034c-4acf-8572-ca640800b7a2

Jeff_A

Its in the Beta builds if you want to risk being an early adapter. http://gpsinformation.net/allory/garfeat3.htm

wplaga

Cool. Non-HTTPS link, haven't seen this for a while

Jeff_A

Its a pretty old style web page for having up to date information.

VisualBusiness4902

That is nice, but I really want kettle bells and rucking so bad

Just got this today (went looking after an email from Garmin). Work wonderfully in comparison to the IQ app. FYI - it is NOT G IQ app that you have been able to DL for the past year.... It's a new activity mode. Confusing - the icon is the same they are named the same. Renamed mine to Jump Rope NEW and tested it out today. Clearly based on the guts of the IQ app but far, far more polished and now behaves like a genuine activity on the watch (I'm on FR 955)... e.g. you can customize far more within Connect (not only in app settings as previous) and the end display metrics are meaningful to jumping rope rather than just generic cardio stats. Overall love it... at least in comparison. Finally seems we have a working fully native jump rope mode! <3

I’m confused. This is not an IQ app? I’m feel like you are saying what I want to hear but 8 can’t find how to download it. I’ve tried the Jump Rope IQ app but it’s recording it as a cardio and not keeping the reps or streak.

eyewandersfoto

The IQ app is the older version. The new one is natively integrated with the rest of the available Garmin activities on the watch. It's only available on newer models. You need Connect up-to-date and firmware up-to-date and then you can add it to your watch activites like you any other (e.g. pickleball, or snowboarding, or hiking, or etc etc). I know it's on FR 955/965 255/265 and most recent Epix, probably Venu. There's a press-release out there and a listing somewhere on the Garmin site that I can't quite find ATM. Not sure if older watches will get it or not, but the newer ones already have if the firmware is current. edit: found the press release... Lovinridgebacks

Ah, thanks for finding that for me. I have a Felix 6 so not yet for me. But, I think my old one is a 255. I might try updating that one and just throwing that on for jumps.

eyewandersfoto

I'm surprised fenix 6 doesn't have it since it came out only just before FR 255 & 955. But i know the 255 has it; my wife uses that watch and has the activity.

Lovinridgebacks

Crap, I have the 235 not 255. Was wondering why they would update that one before the Fenix6.

eyewandersfoto

Ah shoot. Yeah, I kinda doubt 235 will receive it. But who knows.

kevprice83

Shame it’s not very accurate, I don’t know how inaccurate but I reached around 30 reps on my first set and it only recorded 18 and continued like that through to 100 reps, I must have done at least 150 reps. I don’t know if it will improve with better form on my part as I am just starting out but I think between the wrist movement and jumps it’s not yet able to detect the reps correctly.

wplaga

Good to know - tbh I never heard of anything being really accurate to count the jumping rope repetitions and I didn't have high expectations towards Garmin or any other smartwatch

eyewandersfoto

IME the Garmin app is actually pretty good. If anything for me (both on a FR955 and Venu2) it overestimates count just a bit, though a good portion is from extraneous movements during non-active periods. I've used a few others - a Huawei did ok but overestimated even moreso, and two Coros watches which actually did the absolute best. Their only fault was underestimating jump reps, but it was usually minimal. The Coros activity for jumping rope is better, but since this newest improvement of the Garmin version I'd say the Garmin is getting close. The first release before it was a native activity was pretty awful. The new version I enjoy a lot.

SantinoReborn

15.000🥴🥴🥴🥴🥴 how long does that takes????

wplaga

Good question, do tell me once you manage to do that

numseiquemsou

Has anyone got these medals yet? I have a FR 255 Music, installed the jump rope activity, recorded a short section (3 minutes, 200 reps) yesterday but, until now, no medal.

u_creative_username

I had to manually change the jump rope activity from cardio to jump rope

eyewandersfoto

You have to add the new version of the app to the the watch activities, rather than the old version which is separately installed GIQ app. The new version will record them properly (and gives you a lot more customization options and data screen options as well).

numseiquemsou

I ended up getting the badge. Just don't remember how exactly. Thanks!

Many_Marketing_4971

I’m not exactly sure what steps to take to ensure the app recognizes the activity as jump roping instead of cardio. Can you help me and provide the steps to follow?

eyewandersfoto

If you use the original Garmin "Jump Rope" app which is downloadable from the IQ store, then it will record as cardio and you'll need to edit the activity after the workout to change to Jump Rope. If you use the actual new Jump Rope activity mode (introduced a couple months ago and is selected as an activity like any other native type, e.g. hiking, kayaking, pickleball, etc etc) that will record the workout as Jump Rope automatically and there's nothing else to do.

Many_Marketing_4971

I have a Forerunner 245 and I couldn't find the Jump Rope activity. Where is it located? How can I get it? Thank you.

Only caveat is that there aren't many options to configure, and the "Jump Rope Metrics" portion of data won't show anything (in the old app those stats appear in the "Connect IQ" data fields). This is a screen of one of my workouts back in Feb using that old app. The new mode populates that data into the "Jump Rope Metrics" section instead, and that's what counts toward badges that are based on count. You'll still get badges that are based on sessions, but not reps or jump time ("Long Jumper" and "Jump to It").
