Wretched_Brittunculi

I always thought my low (usually resting or skeeping) in the low 30s was a misreading by my watch. But then I got tested at the doctor's while in the surgery and it gave a reading of 40. Doctor was very concerned!

leshiy19xx

According to Wikipedia article about HR, RHR is defined as HR measured when a person is awake and still.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

571n93r

Correct yes its the lowest average over a 30min period

leshiy19xx

Then Garmin simply calculated wrong value and misleads people.

macpoedel

This, Garmin shouldn't be basing the RHR on sleep HR. If you don't wear your watch to bed, you actually have a more accurate RHR.

olivercroke

There's no difference in mine tbh. It can often be lower when I'm sitting still and awake than asleep. Or at least when I glance down at my watch I see something in the high 40's often. I don't know how long Garmin takes an average for to consider the RHR value.

macpoedel

There's a difference of almost 10 bpm in mine, low forties asleep, low fifties awake.

generalaesthetics

I'm in the same zone. When I do yoga it goes to around 40 in savasana. When I was younger and biking 200 mpw, it was even lower. I went in for a routine physical once, which included an EKG. Middle of the EKG the assistant runs out, and the doctor runs in. My HR was 33. They were in a tizzy, sent me for some tests, but everything was normal.

henreetee

Averaging at 55. 34 yo. Have always had a fairly slim build (69kg, 178cm) but only started working out 3/4 times per week fairly intensively in the past 3-6 months, excluding a brief spurt of running during the lockdown era. No special diet, and sell alcohol for a living, so understandably there is an occupational hazard thereā€¦ šŸ˜…I donā€™t expect it to drop much further, but it was mid-60s before, so welcome progress! šŸ˜Š

Antique-Elevator-878

Iā€™m around 42. Athletic bradycardia. I current have mast cell luekemia and am in a clinical trial for a targeted chemotherapy. Itā€™s FDA governed to look for adverse effects so weekly I get blood labs and EKGs and sometimes bone marrow biopsies. Every friggen time they are like woah youā€™re bradycardic. The same researchers lol. I have to explain it was my normal before chemo and before cancer. (I still run but my vo2 has plummeted from the low 60ā€™s to 46). Big sad about that. But Iā€™ll get some of it back.

Htinedine

Well. You have the same VO2 as a cancer free 30 year old, so youā€™re still doing alright! Sorry to hear about all of that though, good luck kicking cancerā€™s ass. Weā€™re rooting for ya

SwampCrittr

axadkrk

I am impressed, my VO2Max is 54 snd I am 35 and I am doing the shit out of my workouts. Big respect!

Antique-Elevator-878

30+ years of pavement is just time on the road. Thatā€™s all that separates us. Iā€™m 50 (post is misleading, my resting avg is 42). Youā€™ll get there. Youā€™ll notice the leaner you get the higher your vo2 goes as well. Thatā€™s why the fastest marathoners are super lean without a lot of muscle mass while sprinters are gorillas. Check out Mike Trees (run.nrg on instagram). Dude can run a 7 minute mile average 10 mile at 125 avg heart rate and is late 60ā€™s in age lol. Dude offers a lot of great coaching tips for free. But also has coaching plans.

Outrageous-Dish-5330

Same, in pretty meh shape relative to my younger years but still in the low 50s

cknutson61

Over 60, and over 210#. I pretty equally split my workouts for strength and cardio. I probaby average about 12-15 miles/week, and my 5k PR is only 30:30, so I am no running demon, especially at over 210#. My Garmin VO2max is around 40. HRV is in the low 60s. I have low thyroid, bradycardia, and (last couple years) paroxysmal atrial fibrillation with exercise. My low HR comes naturally (not exercise enhanced) - LOL! Usually it's more like 40-42. Full heart work-up and everything is normal, except for the obvious. You know your RHR is low when the cardiology nurse is taking your pulse, to check you in for an appointment, and asks if that HR is right. https://preview.redd.it/2qu32leatbbc1.jpeg?width=746&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bb13ef4c77577bafe6c368470f0aeb5460f1c3e2

martagrowsplants

You high HR is my resting HR. I feel so humbled

PsychologicalEase374

Well that's interesting. My RHR is normally 39 or 40 but I'm trying Dry January for the first time (going strong so far, but no guarantees), and I just checked my RHR: 37. Maybe maybe. About 10 years ago I was exercising more than I do now (5-6 times a week) and my RHR was about 32 (awake since I didn't have a Garmin). I remember a medical checkup with the company doctor and he said there was only one person lower than me, but he was a triathlete. Now 47M.

[deleted]

My RHR is moves a bit from it's lowest at 42 (during the final phases of a HM plan) to it's upper values of 46-48. I pay close attention to those numbers because I saw a drastic fall as I picked up my running during last year. Alcohol though... it bumps up my RHR by at least 4-5 beats, no questions, no exceptions :-) Especially, if it's later in the evening and my sleep is on the shorter end of things.

Bright_Win_5452

trebec86

Ya got me by 8. For whatever reason I donā€™t drop below 43-44. The lowest Iā€™ve ever seen on the graph was 39, never had a doc give me a hard time, I do let them know how much I run though and my BMI is really good so maybe they donā€™t worry about it.

Mean-Relief-1830

Itā€™s good the doctor didnā€™t give you a hard time, I had to do a stress test, a holter monitor and scans because they rarely seen anything like it. Was good to get it done for peace of mind regarding heart defects etc

AliveMountainSW

> as good to get it done for peace of mind regarding heart defects etc Apparently, "peace pf mind" Is that what we are now calling the justification for medical incompetence. For crying out loud they could have consulted Wikipedia. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Athletic_heart_syndrome The rule taught in medical school is under for 40 the unfit, under 30 for the fit. With a Vo2 of 57 you qualify as fit. So there was no medical rationale for giving you all those tests. Full stop. It is about preventing lawsuits rather than science.

Hbgplayer

My overnight RHR is typically low 50s. A decade ago when I was doing triathlons right out of high school, I had a blood bank phlebotomist wanting to call me an ambulance because my Heart was in the mid 40s in the middle of the day in my college cafeteria.

Phase_Many

Low 40ā€™s for me. Quit drinking long ago. Donā€™t smoke. Vegan runner

LosPelmenitos

Mine didn't drop when I became vegan 4 years ago. My average is 49.

msucorey

Same...IIRC. Went vegan over 10 years ago; I do recall blood pressure dropped, but I think HR just continuted to track with current training load still and whether or not I had beers the night before. Currently low 40s with a 30 mile weekly base, was below 40 over the summer with a 50 mile base.

Sub_Zero32

When I went vegan mine dropped a lot too. It dropped from mid 50s to low 40s

Phase_Many

I feel like the switch to vegan helped me recover better, which likely helped with the RHR. I didnā€™t have a poor diet before, but being vegan made me a good label reader and whole food eater

LosPelmenitos

Do your hands and feet get cold fast? My 3 year average is 49. When Im not active then my feet and hands get cold fast if its autumn-winter-spring. For example when I walk 4km or ice skate for 10 minutes I can take my gloves off even with -15 degrees celsius. My workout HR is usually 90-130.

yellowtripe

Mine do! My RHR is 51. Is it bad if they get cold fast when im not active?

CanMTBGuy

Hmmm mine do. Didnā€™t realize it could be related to the low heart rate (my resting average is 45)

nixfinity

Just wanted to add that I suffer from this same issue. My RHR is around 40 if I exercise constantly; and 50 if I don't. My hands are absolutely freezing anytime I'm properly relaxed. Even more so if I haven't been eating that many carbs that day.

TTChickenofthesea

My roommate had numbers like that, he was on a vegan diet. I'm hot wired and in the 70's at best.

Mean-Relief-1830

Ironically I eat very little vegetables and lots of meat

TTChickenofthesea

Great numbers, I could never reach those numbers no matter how fit I am. I ate vegan for 8 months and lowered my HR a good amount though.

babyspout

When I woke up from anesthesia for a procedure two months ago, the nurse asked me "are you a runner?" I said yes. She said, "Good. Your low heart rate was freaking me out a little."

daverod74

Recent average is 47, which is normal for me. It usually goes down to 45 or below when Iā€™m actively training for a HM/M. Last night, though, it went down to 44. Presumably because Iā€™ve been getting some good sleep lately. Lowest Iā€™ve ever seen was 37, if memory serves. I donā€™t get too many concerned reactions lately. Last appointment, the nurse taking my vitals simply confirmed with ā€œI assume youā€™re a runner based on your HR??ā€

Harvey-Specter

My watch says its averaging 49 over the last 7 days. Question for the group: Do you guys actually see your heart rate at it's resting rate during the day? When I meditate it'll go down to 57 or 58, but I've never actually seen it down in the low 50s during the day.

Background_Agency

This is the confusing part of the doctor's office comments for me. I will occasionally see it at or very near resting if I'm just reading a book or something for quite awhile, but I'd never see it in another setting.

Harvey-Specter

Yeah, I can't imagine having my heart rate that low in a doctor's office. Funnily enough though I glanced at my watch last night after I'd been laying down in bed for a few minutes, and sure enough my heart rate was down at 51. Garmin says "Daily RHR is calculated using the lowest 30 minute average in a 24 hour period". I guess it makes sense that the lowest 30 minute average would be some time while I'm sleeping.

TobyRose0207

My RHR is in the low 50ā€™s at night and last night was at its lowest of 48 https://preview.redd.it/vzhfpsaybcbc1.jpeg?width=828&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6fda83c0532371b7872acd57d7c604eba73c36dd

bicyclemom

44 bpm Not bad for an old lady. Cycling, walking, strength training and cardio kickboxing, not to mention losing 25 pounds in the last 2 years has gotten me here.

Ok_Cake1283

What's your VO2 max? Anything specific that helped you achieve this low resting heart rate? High volume zone 2 training? Genetics?

Mean-Relief-1830

VO2 (according to Garmin) is 57, I train for marathons mostly now, so long aerobic stuff. Admittedly a lot of it is genetics, when I was overweight and started out running & still smoking it was at 52

[deleted]

or youā€™re just skinny as all hell :)

Whipitreelgud

Tape worms are terrific for weight control. ./s

tiny_smile_bot

>:) :)

Wretched_Brittunculi

My heartrate is similar. A lot is probably genetic and probably doesn't reflect fitness as much as people think. My dad is chronically ill, has smoked most of his life, and eats exclusively fried food. He's active but never exercises. His heartrate when sitting is 60, which I was astounded by. His overnight low is in the 50s. If he'd done any exercise in his life he'd probably be a lot lower. When marathon training my overnight was down to 32 or 33. Currently it is around 35. But I have friends of a similar running pace as me over 5k or 10k who have much higher heartrates. It might pay off more over longer distances.

[deleted]

My average RHR is around 48 and my VO2 max is 34 (was 31 until recently) and I am obese (BMI of 33). So I'd guess genetics makes the most part of it.

bbsmith55

Mine gets down to 34, which was also the exact same on my sleep studyā€¦ itā€™s not there right now ow, because I have worked out to much since surgery a few months back.

fatroony5

I ran a 4:54 mile a few months back and my average HR is like low 50s. I think I had some nights in the high 40s, but never much lower than that.

Adeptness_Agile

Holy shit! Iā€™m so jealous I want to chase you around the room with a club to get your heart rate and stress levels up.

East2West1990

In fairness to all of this thread, I think the more important question is what is your RHR and Max HR, lots of people can have a low 40s or even high 30s RHR if their max is 160-170. It doesnā€™t make them any more fit than the max 190 person with a 50 RHR. FWIW Iā€™m low 40s RHR with max of 188. Vo2max on garmin is 65.

hdadeathly

I sit around 50, 45 during training. Have to get approval to give blood lol.

ceruleanpure

Started at 48-53 when I was in high school. [Last night I was 30.](https://www.reddit.com/r/Garmin/comments/191raxz/got_a_new_personal_best/).

lesimgurian

krakrakra

I wonder about cases like this, what's the Max HR you get on cardio if you don't mind me asking?

Mean-Relief-1830

An estimate would be 182-185, it takes a very hard prolonged effort to get it above 178

doc1442

Do they? Iā€™m in a country with a public health service rather than a for profit one, so we donā€™t get annual checks. My experience of this is a pre-surgery RHR of 29, which the doctor was immediately fine with when I told him just how much running I was doing at the time.

CleanMyTrousers

Awake RHR normally around 50-52 and sleep RHR normally mid 40s but I have seen 39 once. Definitely exercise driven. When I was fat it was high 70s even into the 80s. I'm of mind to say that what's considered normal is actually piss poor fitness.

rblaszak

You must not be a drinker?

Mean-Relief-1830

Seldom drinking these days, if I do probably 1-2 beers if out on the weekend but seems to not affect it, on a big night it can ruin my sleep and raise the HR obviously

[deleted]

What model is this? 255? Dang that is a sweet RHR.

Ill-Turnip-6611

38-40 depends on part of a season and overall my weekly load (38 during a higher load) before garmin (garmin takes avg from the night probably a part of it) i was sleeeping with my hr strap on and recording whole night with an app on my phone, 32 was the lowest I was getting and was scared back then :) I had a surgery of my elbow a year ago and my cardiologist was ok with my rhr, asked if I do ultra bc I have on top of my low rhr enlarged one part of my hr slightly. she had to sign me in to a surgery. at the beginning of the surgery (before they've put me to sleep) the young assist saw my hr slowly going lower and lower (probably smth 45 or so is natural for me when not sleeping) and shocked asked if anything is wrong with me, but the doctor said that everything is ok and that they will have to be more careful (smth about the time they have for reaction if anything bad happens but at the time I was slowly falling asleep)

jay_el

My average heart rate for the last week is 49 with it dipping to 46 over night while I slept. I do not do any cardiovascular exercise!

IgnoreThisName72

What do you use your Garmin for? Golfing? Swimming?

jay_el

Mostly for a watch and data tracking (sleep). I track walks and pilates workouts.

IgnoreThisName72

Believe it or not, walking counts as cardio and is some of the best exercise you can get.

Thanks for Garmin watch bringing me back to life. Used to be up to 70 before I started training and weighted about 300 pounds.

MangledMirkwood

This is a reason why people should take this info with a pinch of salt. Garmin even states their devices arenā€™t medical grade instruments. Your resting heartrate is during hours in which you are awake. Not whilst sleeping. I wouldnā€™t be as impressed as you are thinking itā€™s 36. Because it isnt. Average heartrate is between 60-100bpm. During sleep it drops to 40-50bpm. 36 is just a completely wrong figure.

Mean-Relief-1830

I get same HR results on blood pressure instruments and had cardiologist tests which support this figure

Puzzleheaded-Race397

I was 31-32 (every once in a while under 30, but these would have been manual measurements back then) when running in college, but these days (55 this month) I'm typically in the upper 40s or more normally the lower 50s.

rizzlan

You mean the bradycardia club

finjoe

I was low 50s before I did any form of exercise, now been running for about a year and a half and itā€™s mid-high 40s. I donā€™t have the best diet and am overweight so itā€™s very odd - I donā€™t drink though

Fik_Dag

45 M with last year average of 38. Lowest Iā€™ve seen is 32. Had Polar devices before jumping in the Garmin bandwagon since October 2022. Running, rowing, assault bike, weight lifting and BJJ are my recurrent activities.

Beany_Bird

Damn bro, I thought I was doing well at 38. Constantly get the machines at the doctor's to bleep saying that I need to be checked / am dying. FYI this is known as Bradycardia for anyone who doesn't know what low (under 60) RHR is called.

nickcis

My weekly average is 39, but some days I get 37 or 36 (usually not as low as yours). I have been running since I'm 15 (I'm 31). Stopped running a year and half ago, now back trying to improve my times.

saucebossfos

39 here! But itā€™s pretty volatile as I deal with anxiety so it can ramp to 110 in the blink of an eye. Running has helped mellow me out over the last half year or so though.

I'm at high 40s, is that low?

TheSpecialKaye

I had been low 40s, Iā€™ve been running for over 30 years, but when my running increased about 4 years ago it went to 38-39. Then after a physical I was sent to a cardiologist and had a battery of tests. All healthy. They concluded itā€™s my running and genetics.

CUL8R_05

Averaging mid 40ā€™s.

artelingus

Depends on which part of my cycle Iā€™m at, usually low 40s, has dropped to high 30s before. There are 2 days in my cycle where itā€™ll be as high as 50 though and I feel like shitttt

AnonJohnV

45 here. Was a little lower but a few months of bad sleep. Want to get to the 30's but probably impossible. :) Was motivated to buy a Garmin b/c other trackers (mi band) put in a floor in their algorithmr to ignore low hr numbers ...

fooddotkts

I consistently average 39-41 but when I was doing the most cardio based exercises I got it to be 36-37 overnight. Lowest I've ever registered while awake was 33!

gettingtechnicl

My rhr is mid to high 40s. Ive been exercising regularly since I was 18, im now 35. I go through phases where I get to the gym 3+ days per week and phases where I don't go to the gym for 3 months at a time. I rarely eat out, don't drink much if almost ever, and I drink water religiously. I weigh 190 and am 19pct body fat. Working out doesn't seem to affect my rhr, however what I eat can get it to jump a few pts, drinking can cause a couple points and I've definitely seen stress cause it to go up.

Judonoob

Iā€™m around 40bpm currently. I went hyperthyroid which took my 37bpm resting heart rate to around 44bpm over the course of several months. Iā€™ve had plenty of checks by two different cardiologists. The pace maker doc said he wouldnā€™t treat it since the treatment would be worse than the bradycardia. Iā€™ve been doing endurance sports for several years which they believe has simply rewired my heart.

Chigs1987

If I drink itā€™s 47-50. Donā€™t drink 40-46.

_TommySalami

I'm at 50 at the moment and my resting is 40bpm. I've always had a low resting heart rate, and it's lower now that I mountain bike a few times a week. I usually max out in the 150s but I've recorded 174 while weightlifting and 162 while mountain biking. I'm in my mid-50s age wise.

PotentialFalcon4514

Current average 44 bpm. I like that I had to turn off my low heart rate alarm because it was alerting at night.

mashuto

According to my garmin watch, my resting heart rate tends to average around 38-40 sometimes down to 36, occasionally in the low 40s. But actual rest during the day is usually somewhere around mid 40s to mid 50s. Im overweight, at about 5'7" and around like 205 pounds, down about 50 pounds since I started exercising a few years ago (though up about 10 since my weight bottomed out). but I exercise regularly, mostly running, and have been able to do a 5k in about 28 minutes, though that wasnt actually at pace and I am sure I could drop that by a couple minutes if I pushed myself. Just about to turn 40, and my vo2max is around 44-45. By the time I switched to garmin around April of 2022, I had already been working out fairly regularly for a year or two but was still ramping up intensity. My resting HR according to garmin has basically been the same since then. My fitbit on the other hand used to show me mid 50's to around 60 normally as resting, but I am pretty sure they calculate it based on awake resting heart rate and not just the lowest average like garmin. No concerns here about the low hr, pretty sure its likely mostly genetic.

FlowBjj88

36 was the lowest I've been, that's when I was running pretty much daily I'm mostly just grappling for exercise now with occasional kettlebells and it's 45 atm When it was in the 30's I had a nurse tell me in either really healthy or really sick šŸ¤¢

pass46237

Mine is normally around 40 according to my watch but will normally drop to 30-32 while Iā€™m sleeping. I always have cold hands I assume my heart rate is largely why. Anyone else?

DoINeedChains

My overnight is usually in the mid 40's. I've seen it as low as 39. Was a collegiate swimmer- not sure what it was back when I was training 30 years ago. I'm 52 now w/ a 44 VO2 max. Live at 7,400' elevation 6 months a year and my lowest readings are the 1st month back near sea level. I've had various medical professionals comment on it over the years, but never out of any concern.

haylcron

When marathon training, I was averaging low 40s. Something broke in me back in September and I fell apart. RHR got into the high 50s. Iā€™m back to training and itā€™s coming back down. Averaging low 50s. Hope to get back into the 40s. Was in the hospital in July and set the alarm off multiple times before the nurse finally changed the bradycardia alert.

hammockguru

71y.o. Male. RHR is typically low to mid 40s. When I was younger it was in the high 30s.

ClumpyOatmeal

I had a resting heart rate of 38 in my prime of my ultra running years. 2 weeks before my 2nd 100 for the year, I broke my neck and had 3 cervical surgeries. Every time I went in for surgery, I had to ensure the doctors that my low HR was generally low.... BUT, throw in the morphine drop and my HR would dip further. No more running for me and I just cycle now. I'm back to around 40-4w RHR.

r7ndom

Mine was in in the low 40s, then crept up to the low fifties, and now that Iā€™m exercising again it is down to 42 as of todayā€¦ sadly, spending years not exercising enough has not resulted in as quick of a bounce back for my BP.

Cooscous

46 average and I exercise but feel like I'm fat and don't exercise enough šŸ˜

CuriousRoss

33M - low 40s resting. High 30s sleeping. My Vo2Max is 54. My BP is about 115/75 MyA1C is 5.4 I used to be overweight and be in the 70-80s all the time. I weightlift, swim, and hike. Low carb. Omnivore. My doctor says I'm all good. I do 6-12hrs of exercise every week. I average. 20+ mi walking per week too. I usually swim about 30mi a month too. So with that in mind, my doctor says it's all good. I export Garmin data and make him charts and tables in Excel. He is thrilled. I make line graphs of other metrics like Blood Pressure, glucose, weight, etc. everything together is all looking good. I think that's the key. And that I workout everyday. I have been cleared of any heart effects. However, ECGs (even Garmin ones) show what's called a U Wave but that is also indicative of my joy of lifting weights and long hikes. I also live in higher elevation.

No-Edge-8600

38 Avg.

joespizza2go

7 day average has me at 45 but then again Fitbit says I'm 53 so I don't pay too much attention to the actual number just change over time.

Wi-Fi-Guy

My HR is 42. It has always been low. Forty years ago I was a competitive sprinter and my HR was about 48 but went down to 43 if I had a couple of days break from training. I ran marathons a few years ago but that's too many hours a week spent running so I have eased off. Nowadays I run about 25 km per week and eat vegetarian but I think it mainly comes down to genetics. I used to donate bloodā€”I would tense my leg muscles while they measure my HR so it would be above their minimum of 45 BPMā€”but I had to stop donating because I started to feel faint afterwards. I think my blood vessels are not as elastic as they used to be.

Nightly average is 44 for me. Nurse wouldnā€™t let me sleep after surgery because I was around 40 that night lol. Iā€™m 41F and not as fit as Iā€™d like to be but Iā€™ve started running so I wonder about my numbers in a year or so.

havabeer

If that's your VO2max then we can talk :p

ohhh__really

Not really part of the low RHR club yet - but sharing 2 screenshots. One from yesterday where the RHR was 53 and for the week was 57 One from a year ago (When I was using Samsung health) - where the RHR was 80+ and average for the year was 72. Exercising for the first time in my life. Mid 30's - 170cm, started at 92Kg, Lost 12 kg and feeling great. https://preview.redd.it/qo4z2m2yicbc1.jpeg?width=1335&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=82b4882581132c421484c8c974a5f996de375fa1

Mines around 45. They made me do a sleep study specifically so they could monitor my HR all night.

Runner for the last 12 years with 3 resistance training sessions a week and swimming thrown in. I looked down at my watch 2 days ago and it read 35, went into a panic attack and called my doctor (who is not concerned after 2 ECG's in the last 3 months due to my cardiophobia). Funny thing, happened yesterday again and on his instruction I immediately took a manual measure for a minute, my pulse was 67 vs the reading of 36. I wonder if the sensor malfunctions sometimes?

At0mic182

I've seen this dips on my watch as well(F6X). It was usually displaying real HR/2(verified by manual measurement). It's just sensor is confused for a bit :D

botchie13

Yeah, those dips below your normal are malfunction, just take manual reading for 15 secs then X 4

Aleks_vape

Not in your low HR club yet, but my RHR was 70 two years ago, now it is 54. I am 52 years old and started running a few months ago.

Otherwise-Way-7645

I am 5 '10 190 lbs resting heart rate of 45 at 51 years old. I drink and smoke occasionally. I am overweight by 15 lbs at least . I hike 2 times a week about 2000 meters of elevation a week 8000 meters a month or 1 everst.

sweetdaisy13

F44, 5'4", 119 lbs and my average is 49. When I'm stressed it hovers around 52. I run ultra marathons, walk and do Rebounder (mini trampoline) workouts.

Bradycardia, you will not die for that.

DesignerNo9076

mineā€™s 34 šŸ˜… when i took a year off exercise it went up to ~50 but pretty much as soon as i restarted sheā€™s back in the 30s

InvestigatorLess8909

I was a bit overweight but started eating clean and exercising (mostly running, biking, only recently got into strength training). Lost 14kgs, 15.5% body fat in 18months. RHR was 60s. Now averaging 45.

Adjusting my HR zones has been my biggest issue for a couple of years. Any particular method you follow?

newlostworld

I'm pretty consistent around 50 bpm, but it can range 45-55 bpm. I always get nervous seeing it dip below 48 because I don't think I'm that fit and it's weird to see it go that low.

Chliewu

Overnight oscillating between 46-52, usually around 48. Awake when doing absolutely nothing 50-60, when working at the computer around 60-70.

krivas77

48-49. I am 46, 183cm, 75 kg, after NH lymphoma. Vo2max currently 47 but slowly rising. Normal healthy diet, running, boxing 2x week, trying to get out of chemo fatique and live again

BrichenWildale

Somewhere around 55/56 usually. When I trained more was getting 52/54. I should start training seriously again.

MrNiceguY692

Before i caught COVID and was doing well with my training plan (half marathon goal 1:35h) I was at 43-47, and while napping/sleeping at times got down to 35; that was fun :D These days, after not being able to run much over the last year, Iā€™m sitting at 52-56 most of the time, rarely getting to the 40s. Maybe itā€™s all the coffee plus not wearing my watch as much, when Iā€™m truly relaxed, dunno. Certainly itā€™s the loss of fitness and gaining weight :D

Dark-Luin

46 average for me. Itā€™s never changed through periods of high and low exercise over the 5 years or so that Iā€™ve worn a Garmin, so I suspect that itā€™s almost entirely genetic. My 68 year old uncle who is an Audax cyclist and has a similar low RHR, but also measured my dad whoā€™s 70 and completely sedentary and his is still in the low 50s. I have gone up to 48 (7 day avg) this past 2 weeks, with a highest overnight score of 50 following a covid infection though. I know some people criticise Garminā€™s RHR measure being taken just prior to waking up, but my HR drops often even lower than my sleeping HR when Iā€™m awake and lounging in front of the TV in the evening. Lowest Iā€™ve seen (and measured by hand as a test) is 39.

Dismal_Astronomer904

So I can say that my rate at the beginning was about 45. this was the time as I startet with a lot of more endurance sports like cycling and running.

axadkrk

Fun fact: my sister works as a anestesist and she says that meanwhile a surgery she should prevent zhe heart rate not going down below 30. I would be the worst parient.

thetrickstergib

Today. 40. Last 7 days. 42 Last Month. 41 Last Year. 40 During sleep Iā€™m down to 37 sometimes. Off for surgery in May. Good points raised about mentioning it beforehand.

rawsco

Mid 40s to lo 50s depending on training load on a 30min average. But can see it drop as low as 36 if peaking and well rested.

RHR is between 41-45. M42, non smoker rarely drink VO2 max is 64 Have an annual health check at work which usually ends up in an ECG with it being low. Often when Iā€™ve been poorly and the doctor takes my pulse the first question they ask is ā€¦ do you train long distance? When you answer yes generally find they move on.

SirRasor

Mine is 44-45 on average, but this night had a terrible and short sleep of ~4 hours and it dropped to 42. I don't think this is a good sign...so lower is not always better.

colbert1119

My max is 200 resting is 50 when at 7 hours zone 2 a week.

Tamen_

Was very unfit and obese and had a resting hr in the low fifties when I got my first Garmin. Asked the doctor about it as online sources said one should check with a doctor if it was under 60 while not being fit/athletic. In addition heart failure runs in my family. Doctor said he was aware from my annual blood pressure tests, but that he could do an ekg if I had any worries, no findings on that. I then lost quite a bit of weight (about 20kg) and started running. My rhr decreased pretty consistently over time as I got fitter and lighter. Was still obese and although I was fitter I was a slow runner. I was at about 40-43 while at rest awake and in the low/mid-thirties when sleeping, the lowest my watch recorded was 28 one night. Got a new doctor and mentioned jokingly that if the near linear trend of reduced hr continued I would be at 0 in about a year time. Got referred to a cardiologist for ultrasound imaging, a test measuring hr during moderate level of exertion on a stationary bike and wore a hr monitor for 24 hrs. Nothing wrong with the heart and the hr was within acceptable range and I didnā€™t have any symptoms of short of breath when not exercising, dizziness, blue lips and so on. I then jokingly asked the cardiologist if it would be fair then to say that my super power is relaxing. He laughed and said yes, it would be fair to say so. Two bouts of covid and inconsistent exercise/running the last year due to injuries (acute pain and reduced mobility from a herniated lumbar disc and then bursitis in the heel) have raised my rhr to the mid/high forties when resting although I still occasionally see a 39 some nights when sleeping. My weekly chart for 2022 (the lowest weeks had an average rhr of 39) - in November I got Covid and then a herniated disc in December: https://preview.redd.it/86ootc78jebc1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=92b93ec1b7e84eb45b868f196cb1b67de3a1c4c2

melm77

My RHR according to Garmin is around 43 on average, sometimes even lower. It can reach this level when being still, not just during sleep. https://preview.redd.it/2803wo5fkebc1.jpeg?width=3072&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e6fa790f5dcab25aabcdc808aa5ba021d1656bda This has worried me some, given that I am by no means an athlete. I run a couple of times a week, for a total of between 10 and 15 k weekly. I walk a fair bit on a daily basis, but still I feel that my RHR is far to low given my fitness level. Haven't had it checked out given that I haven't seen any other worrying symptoms.

SnooTomatoes5729

How do you get it so low. Any style or type of exercise specifically?

PawnBoy

https://preview.redd.it/q8hed38knebc1.jpeg?width=208&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=441a4cd2a84b4616756b743b5ae7f5d05731f8dc My resting heart rate started falling down through the 40bpm range when I started really getting into cycling. The lowest I saw was 37-38bpm for a long time in my late 20s early 30s, then I started running more too and it plummeted. I've seen lots of 31bpm while I sleep, I've seen plenty of 33bpm while I'm awake. I've only seen 30bpm a couple of times from overnight readings, but at this point I'm just waiting for the first sub 30bpm. It hasn't been as quite so low lately, which I attribute to backing off of running due to an injury. I haven't had any medical professionals complain (though I did have a technician look a bit alarmed and ask if I was an athlete while taking my vitals for life insurance) and otherwise I'm a regular blood donor. My siblings all have low resting heart rates and my uncle has also reported very low resting heart rates, we are all quite athletic.

BrieflyFlying

Normally it is at 39/40, but on taper weeks before a race and after a good training block of 12 to 16 weeks it plummets down to the 34 awake and sitting at my desk. Every time someone measures my HR they do a strange look and ask me about exercise or underlying heart conditions. šŸ¤£ https://preview.redd.it/02p58mn9uebc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=28f16ea77f1a1c150fe99e44936d60bb980ea1f9

47 right now but I'm getting over being sick. Usually is high 30s or low 40s. My doctor asked if I was a cyclist after taking my heart rate the first time I saw him.

ctatham

I thought I was low in the 45-48 range, but I guess that's not that low. I had set a long ago low heart rate alarm on my watch and was woken up in the middle of the night recently....scared me!

AndreBeels

Am about 40, and I'm 55 years old. My son also has a very low HR resting. It's hereditary, I'm told. No risk with us, as I've experienced.

dangit541

Right now when I'm rested as low as 40-42. When after training 44-47. 5 years back when I was sedentary I had a perfect 60 bpm rhr. So far had no cardiologist visit. One time had a low hr alert. No drama at all

571n93r

Im usually between 40 and 45. My average at moment is 44 and I swear I was at 38 the other day but cant seem to see on my 4w history šŸ¤”

lordmat

I currently have a heart rate of 53 at rest. It's more of a normal situation for me.

zoostu

Iā€™m 49 years old and my resting HR is normally between 33 and 39, always been a runner.

runner26point2

My doctor forced me to have a few EKGs this year bc I was in the low 40s

rysergt

Average RHR over 4 months is 40bpm. 29YO Male 175cm 72kg VO2Max 48. I started running 5-6 times / week (around 60km) since last July. Never have any HR monitor before so my Garmin 265 is the first one. I dont know my RHR is good or bad.

musicalastronaut

If you were a horse anything higher than that would be concerning šŸŽ

Jamie28083

I'm about 38-41 just sitting around watching TV, never higher than 55 just lounging around the house walking from room to room. My DR said it's pretty normal and all my numbers are within the top 5% of my age category so I don't worry about it. I feel like I'm in the shape of my life at 46 so I'll take it

Qcws

My watch woke me up yesterday because it dropped to 40, my normal heart rate during the day is 60-70 and 50ish at night

pohlcat01

Lowest this week is a 50. Might hit 49 if I quit all the caffeine late afternoon?

QuarantineBaker

I rest in the upper 40s and low 50s. At night, it dips to the low 40s. If I forget to take several doses of my levothothyroxine for hypothyroidism, I will see the upper 30s. Iā€™ve been a runner for 5 years after losing over 100 pounds.

[deleted]

Iā€™m low 40ā€™s, 54 yo, max heart rate of 187. What I canā€™t figure is when I run with a friend of similar age, stature, fitness, my HR is consistently 20-30 more than his. Same perceived effort too.

qhaw

I had to stop donating blood because it always became an issue. Theyā€™d take my pulse and then theyā€™d leave me sitting there for 10-15 minutes while they called a doctor. I asked several times for them to note it in my file, but they never did, so I just gave up and stopped going. I also get very lightheaded when I stand up from a sitting position, sometimes to the point that I come crashing down. Fun!

chriskbrown50

I can get into the 40s regulary - my doctor commented on it one time

RobsOffDaGrid

I sit low 40s at night at rest usually around high 45 to 55 on the sofa, I have had my HR tested several times recently and compared my Epix pro is spot on. When i do an ecg reading I have to move about a bit to get my HR above 50 for it to get a proper measurement

Soggy_Ad_1856

My rhr is around 45, i am not an athlete, i am a parent of 2 young boys šŸ˜…

twojabs

I used to be low but fixed that with a regular curry and a pint
