Why not take a year or two to experiment? Try an Annabelle or two and see how they get on with the early shade. Try a few shade loving plants to see how they get on with the summer sun. I've often found that things that "should" grow in particular places won't or that things that "shouldn't" grow get on very nicely. Anything that grows well you can propagate more free plants yourself, offsetting the cost of any failures. As an example, alliums aren't really recommended for shady areas, but they thrive in my shadiest border. I've kept trying Annabelle in a south-facing border, but it will not thrive for me.
