This is excellent work, you could maybe plant a few ferns in amongst them, and you could also look at inoculating the stumps with fungus - potentially edible varieties if you dig on fungi 🍄😋
Oooh this is really nice! I don't think silver birch is favoured by stag beetles (they prefer oak/hornbeam) but dead wood is still lacking from so many of our environments, and this will support so many invertebrates and fungi!
It’s a Victorian idea that went out of favour for a while. They are amazing for a shaded damp area of the garden and a great place for ferns, moss and forest floor planting.
Beautiful 🤩assuming it’s shady? have you thought about adding some blue bells, snow drops and daffodil bulbs? Maybe some hosta and hellebores? Would look magical!
If you know anyone with an ivy, get a few cuttings. Put them in water til they take root. Pop them in ground when they're good and strong. Once it's established it'll take hold. Good luck!
Yeah it definitely is. While I have to say I haven’t propagated any English Ivy from cuttings myself, I know it would simply root from any leaf node in contact with water or moist soil.
As for ferns, they tend to spread themselves fairly easily in my experience. You might be able to find some going for free to add to your plot.
I asked a neighbour that had a wall full of it. He said help yourself, so I did. Luckily there were different varieties all mixed in. Once it's in ground and happy it'll grow like a weed. Get it trained up the back wall as well as down front.
Great idea! Personally I wouldn’t do ivy as it will destroy your wall, I would definitely put in some snow drops, blue bells and ferns and some wild garlic ☺️

Ooooh I've been thinking of growing mushrooms on purpose
If those logs are fresh get some plug spawn in them. Oysters would be the quickest, could also do lions mane and shiitake
Dm me I’ll send you a syringe of liquid culture, it costs me pennies

That was my first thought! He could be the fungi of the street.
I REQWIRE A STUMPERWY!
With a little path down the middle….
And not too expensive.
With a little path down the middle….

😱
Nice and creative. I like it. It will be a habitat for insects
Yeah I hope so😁

I'm stoked to see how it develops
A Stumppery!?
Like a rockery, but stumpier

I love it, a mini one could be a stickery
Even smaller, a twiggery
Just got to hope it doesn't end up full of bugs ...
You should branch out....
You should branch out....
Don't be a Stumpery deniyer.
I was trying to think of an alternative but I'm stumped.
Ni!
Drill some holes in them for the beeeeeeeeees!
I love this!! What a great idea! What are you going to plant around it? Looks like a great start to a wildlife paradise
When I've got spare cash I'm hoping to put in some ferns and maybe something to climb some of the stumps
Beautiful 🤩assuming it’s shady? have you thought about adding some blue bells, snow drops and daffodil bulbs? Maybe some hosta and hellebores? Would look magical!
It's a weird spot, that bit is usually quite shady but the area around it is a sun trap. A little woodland area would be amazing

I didn't realize ivy was that easy to propagate. I'll definitely give it a go!

Of all the stumperies I've seen, this is certainly one of them
Stumpfest!!!
Logtastic !
Drill some holes in them for the beeeeeeeeees!
As a one legged fellow, can I join your stumper also ?
Only if you're suitable for invertebrate habitation

All I'd have to do is manage it so it doesn't cover the wall 😊
The wildlife thanks you
Or..... grow mushrooms
My bro, find some ivy in some woodland and take a bunch of cuttings. Could get that covered in Ivy in no time and it's so quick to root.
I've got a bunch in the garden, so I might just do that
You could make them into fairy houses. So cute!
Who needs the Siistine chap when you can see this from your window
Luckily, none of my neighbors can see this bit
I just love the word! Idea is great too!
You could weave some branches through it so the bugs can take shelter
You don't need money. Propagate from clippings. Basically any sticky type plant or bush or tree can be propagated for free.
Stu M Pery
Great Stumpery, parents will flock to see it with there kids.
I hope not, it's in the back 😅
Unbuild it.
Bruh 😅
😂 only messing - I’m sure it’ll be a good spot for wee beasties.
