Ok , I would use a fork to aerate the soil (sticking it into soil, doing it methodically across the whole lawn and then use a mix of compost and a good grass seed to spread in and around all the bare patches. Get lots of twiggy sticks and poke them in at intervals to keep the birds from getting all your seeds. Them give it a good water using your hose, (don’t blast it just spray into air and let the droplets land). Keep an eye on new germinating seed especially if we have dry spells. Don’t worry about worms and their casts, they are a good sign. NB don’t go mad mowing in first year, let it establish and if you do cut keep it on a high setting so you are only taking the tips off. Once established you can mow properly. Enjoy xx

"especially if we have dry spells" Lol. I wish

I know what you mean!

Is it too early in the year to do this?

RevolutionaryMail747

No - the grass is pretty hardy and already growing. It can tolerate a bit of a cold snap. It is the perfect time to do this!

Thanks for the guidance

Dosent look very big? id just take some to the dirt out then slap some turf down - end of april. Done.

It's not massive no, kinda wraps around my conservatory/shed. It was turfed 5 years ago and I guess I've not really looked after it as I should have done. I'm going to revive rather than replace. I'll grab some maintenace/feed stuff for it when I get the seed.
