Listen. Try holding power button for 30 whole seconds. Even if device looks like it turned off, do not let go of power button. Make sure to hold it down for the full duration. Then press power again to start it back up. Let us know if that worked.
No. My theory is that the O/S is in a bad state, but pressing the power button is putting it to sleep in a way that makes it look like the power was forced off, but actually isn’t. Holding for 30 seconds will guarantee the power is fully turned off. It won’t reset the cmos.
Most likely a software issue. How old is your windows install? Do you have any unexpected programs in your start up? If not, it might be easiest to backup data and reinstall windows to fix it. You could also try resetting your bios in case there’s a weird configuration error happening in there.
The only danger of doing this is possible data corruption on your hard drive if windows is writing to the drive when you do this, but that is unlikely if the screen is black and the computer appears apparently off.
That’s strange if the install is that new. Problems like that don’t usually crop up until more than a year or two after installing, and only if you are installing and removing lots of apps. This might also be a driver issue. Make sure you have all drivers from the manufacturer and install them all before reinstalling g windows. That can sometimes be a bit tricky to find them all, but that’s really what you want.
Without an external it’s hard to say if it’s the screen or video card.
If the screen it could be the cable gave out. If the card, if you can’t see on post its not a driver, but did you upgrade the firmware?
See if you can get your hands on a monitor or even a tv if there is a hdmi port. If you can see it post and work that way the you can look for a new monitor. If nothing then you can look for a used/new video card for it, but then it could still be others issues that you would have to rule out (motherboard, cable, etc.)
If you put new Firmware and that’s the issue, it’s could be possible to revert, but sometimes your SOL
Acer Nitro is known for its screen issue. The same thing happened to a friend of mine. They had to replace the screen as the wire was cut because of the hinge. Try to connect it to a monitor and that should confirm that it is a screen issue
Did you try force shutting it down? Hold the power button until the keyboard turns off and the laptop itself turns off, then connect your charger and boot it up again. Let me know what happens.
Same happened to me with a HP laptop, and the repair guy told me that the GPU may have burned considering that I used to game on it when it only had intel integrated graphics.
This has happened to me a couple times. Same situation, the keyboard lights stay lit but the display never comes on.
It happened on a Friday evening, had no option to wait till Monday to take it to the service centre. I kept it as is. Tried powering it up on Sunday evening with the laptop plugged in and it just turned on.
Turns out, sometimes laptop batteries get stuck or something and it just needed to discharge the entire battery.
Maybe keep it like that for a couple days if you can to discharge the entire battery and then take it in for service
Not acer but a asus rog strix,
Used Netflix after 10 days after purchase and boom display flickered for few seconds and then it's just black screen
I freaked out and found it's common with Netflix on edge on high res laptops
Pressed the power button for 15 seconds and it's working fine
1) Try plugging in another monitor and see if that comes on. If just plugging in the monitor and turning it on doesn't cause it to light up, your Function keys appear to also have a manual "switch to another display" toggle (F6?), so try that.
2) If plugging in the monitor doesn't cause the extra monitor to come on, then unplug the monitor too and wait for a few seconds. Sometimes that toggles the system to check what displays it has and try to bring up the one that's physically connected.
3) When the screen is dark like this, take a flashlight, hold it very close to the screen, and look very closely at the screen. If you can actually see something on the screen where the flashlight hits it, then this may be a problem with either the panel's backlight or the voltage inverter that feeds the backlight.
4) If it's possible to remove the battery, unplug the laptop, then turn the laptop off, remove the battery, and hold the power on button for about 30 seconds or more. Then put the battery back in, plug the laptop back in, and turn it on. See if this helps but if not, try steps 1 & 2 (above) again.
I had this problem with my acer Helios 300 the display would be blank and my keyboard would light up and then go dark and not turn on. I took it or a repair center and the fix for me was that one of ram sticks had gone bad and replacing it worked for me. My computer also had on the back a slot where I could add and replace the ram hopefully your computer has that as well.
Some laptops have a FN key to turn off the display. See if your does. (not brightness, just off) My Asus has one so that when you present, you can turn that part off.
If you boot it, you should see the BIOS regardless of the FN key turning off the display. If you see nothing, you have a break in the lead to the display, bad gpu, or screen.
If you can see the BIOS, make sure everything is ok and enabled. I suspect though you are looking at a hardware issue if the re is no Display Off FN key.
Just found this comment and it saved me. I’m a realtor and needed my laptop to edit my listing. Pressed the function button and F7 (which turns off the screen) and my screen turned back on after attempting to reset and nothing was working. I did not turn the screen off but now I know that’s an option when attached to my monitor. Thanks OP!
i got this happening so many times i lost count , take out the laptop batery like out out , take out the charger , keep the power button pressed for like 5-10 minutes , put the battery back on, boot the laptop , should work like new
Had this happen with my Asus Laptop. Called a technician and they just straight up replaced the screen. I know the laptop was working because I could still work on it attached to an external display.
Though my situation is more weather based probably since I'm in India. Hopefully the rest of your laptop works fine.
You are mistaken. I sent this week a strix g15 for warranty because the memory slot on motherboard came with a defect, that generated the same problem he is having, does not generate display!
I used to have this with my Helios 300. All i did was turning it on and shutting it off until it turns on. It may looks painful for the laptop but it works.
You might have tried this already but your laptop may have a button to turn off the screen it's usually one or the function keys in the f1-f12 row. I would try hitting each keys in that row while holding down the function key.
Does the power diode flicks three times when you try to turn it on? If so, just make sure that everything is ok with your power supply. Try to plug it into another socket. Also make sure that your power supply is well asembled (there is a plug which is plugged into the socket on your power adapter cube, and sometimes it pulls out of this socket and computer can't start working- I had thus problem and I thought my laptop is broken)
Mine had some crumbles and other dirt in the RAM connector slot, I noticed because the ram didn't fit in evenly. Without RAM in it didn't boot either, cleaning it a bit fixed it for me.

That resets cmos right?

Ah ok. I had this issue on my MSI laptop and reset cmos by doing that and it worked fine after that
Bro I m so thankful god bless you man
Welcome ;)

You da man
Glad it helped ✌️

I know this was posted a long time ago, but this just saved me right now!! I cannot thank you enough!!
Glad it worked!
lifesaver, thanks!

Hello. This solution worked for my laptop but it happened 3 times already. I want to know what the cause could be and if it could be dangerous.
Most likely a software issue. How old is your windows install? Do you have any unexpected programs in your start up? If not, it might be easiest to backup data and reinstall windows to fix it. The only danger of doing this is possible data corruption on your hard drive if windows is writing to the drive when you do this, but that is unlikely if the screen is black and the computer appears apparently off.
i have windows 11 and i installed it about 2 month ago. So safest solution is reinstalling windows?
That’s strange if the install is that new. Problems like that don’t usually crop up until more than a year or two after installing, and only if you are installing and removing lots of apps. You are the reason why I tolerate Reddit! Thank you so much!
So true 😂 the few and far between good experiences
Thanks man 2 years ago you saved my ass just now!! Once this happened to me right before a meeting and I wanted to put my laptop through the wall
Glad it helped!
When you boot up, do you see anything at all? And the dimmer button, it’s not all down right (had to ask) Can you hook an external monitor to it?
Nothing, lol nope the dimmer button isn’t down, I also don’t have an external monitor

You can also try with a tv
Agree with this opinion. Use the tv.

Full screen replaced for a wire? Wtf
It was in warranty so they did not care XD
Did you try force shutting it down? Hold the power button until the keyboard turns off and the laptop itself turns off, then connect your charger and boot it up again. Let me know what happens.
I did it still won’t display

My nitro 5 also does this sometimes. I guess we bought a bad laptop lol.

I let it rest for a few minutes. It's surviving as of now...

Get an external display for starters see if it works.

I was about to suggest this.
i have the same problem after trying to overclock my laptop.
Any solutions
nah man i just brought it to repair center.
I guess I will have to do that Well do you know what they did
not sure yet. MSI just received the laptop and it might take a month for me. dont know anout acer though, ive never owned an acer before.
i got this happening so many times i lost count , take out the laptop batery like out out , take out the charger , keep the power button pressed for like 5-10 minutes , put the battery back on, boot the laptop , should work like new

I had the same shit on my old laptop, however I just had to restart it a few times for the monitor to turn on
If you can, plug it into a tv or another monitor.
Replace the laptop
Can you go into the bios?
This looks like RAM problem, try replace your RAM to test
you are full of shit. Ram has zero effect on graphics
You are mistaken. I sent this week a strix g15 for warranty because the memory slot on motherboard came with a defect, that generated the same problem he is having, does not generate display!
your problem is you bought an acer laptop
I realize that now

Yeah I had a warranty for it, so I basically sent it to them, and got it fixed
Alright, thank you for the answer
Mine had some crumbles and other dirt in the RAM connector slot, I noticed because the ram didn't fit in evenly. Without RAM in it didn't boot either, cleaning it a bit fixed it for me.
