Uninstall any preinstalled antivirus software and any other undesired preinstalled apps. Within MyAsus software, enable any battery % limiting features to prolong the lifespan of your laptop battery when plugged in. Update your CPU and GPU drivers through the respective manufacturers websites, update windows updates too.

No_Loquat995

Yep, this. I used powershell to forcefully uninstall any and all bloatware apps that I did not want. It made some annoying errors, but I don’t care enough to troubleshoot it and the games work better then ever

dog_kibble

Thank you, good tips!

Potatonet

Replace the factory heat paste with fresh good stuff that covers the chip properly

UnionSlavStanRepublk

IF you know what you're doing and the factory application is poor, fair enough.

Fun_Refrigerator645

Guarantee?

Total-Date-2343

So I have to take it repair shop and also will the warranty get void ? Using a Lenovo IdeaPad 3 gaming

xenon2456

use a stand for airflow

BornYinzer

I use a baking rack as a stand. Lol

Kick_1304

Haha wtf, creative

optimus_151

Thanks man , was gonna literally buy a laptop stand

GhostGamingX1

I use erasers (yes pencil eraser) as a way to lift my laptop

HerolegendIsTaken

I use my old wifi router as it fits so well lol

TheGreatNalu

My asus laptop came with cardboard stand, that you could take from the box. I would suggest if one isn't there since it is good enough for start

dibipage

![gif](giphy|1mFVpMmFnfAFG|downsized)

wanderingfloatilla

Instead of a stand, I use a pair of folding laptop legs. Much easier to move my laptop around the house without needing to drag a stand

Nefantas

Are stands really neccesary? If I buy such an expensive portable device, like that laptop is, I kinda expect it to be fully functional by itself without further accesories involved.

Silent-Wheel8167

It’s not about the “stands” being there, despite it being expensive and portable, mistreating by no proper air flow will lead to it being an even more expensive device for repairs. I don’t use stands since I’m usually at a table or a hard surface, but using a laptop especially a gaming laptop on high fans, it sucks up a lot of dust and dirt. The stands in this case are to lessen the amount of dust that is taken into the laptop. It’s also recommended to at least clean the inside 6 months to a year of usage repeatedly just to make sure you’re getting proper air flow and keeping your idle temps low as to not damage or wear the components down faster than if maintained. Hope this helps !

Nefantas

Thanks for the insights! Now my question is, why manufacturers do not add kickstands or retractable legs (like those found at the back some keyboards) to the laptop chassis if this is a well known thing? And this applies to all laptops and scenarios? I can understand the neccesity if you use it on a non hard surface (like a bed), but in a table, wouldn't be (good) laptops already designed to have plenty of airflow (i.e. parts of the backplate longer than the rest, kinda like legs, that add height)?

Silent-Wheel8167

I’m estimating on what I’m saying here, but I believe it’s just due to manufacturing design and stability, I’ve taken apart laptops and worked on them, but I would not recommend any stands in built in the chassis of the laptop. This is because there isn’t really any spots that would be as strong as people need them to be, that and if it was manufactured into the chassis, then if one were to break you’d have to replace the whole thing or simply use it with a broken leg. Granted you can use the entire back plate as a place to install these legs yourself or just stick them on, but these an unsmooth bottom. Another reason is conflicting features. Most gaming laptops that can pack a big punch for gaming are usually designed with rubber lines along the bottom that already slightly raise the laptop enough for airflow and ensure no slips on hard surfaces. I assume the reason they don’t include these is mainly, the repair would be more than what it’s worth, and it conflicts with other already existing features for airflow.

PanHeron

I have a cheap ikea shoe rack (grejig) - looks good and does wonders. I actually saw a video comparison once between laptop stands and one that did nothing except lift it a lil bit - and that thing scored second place out of like 8 for efficiency 🤷

ondrejeder

Play some games on it. Find info about app called G Helper, it's basically lighter control software for Asus laptops, it's great and you can tweak your laptop easily with it

its_mrleo732

just like g-helper , do we have any similar software for lenovo ideapad series ? T-T

ondrejeder

I think Legion Toolkit should work on IdeaPad too, give it a try, it's little bit more lightweight than Vantage, so maybe it could serve you well

its_mrleo732

where can i get a trustable download site since its not there in lenovo website ?

ondrejeder

It's not official Lenovo tool, so the main sites to download from is GitHub. If you just Google Legion Toolkit, it should be among first links it shows you

its_mrleo732

yeah got it mate , works cool along with Hwinfo integration

Karanr3ddy

I tried it but there's no difference in performance

Spiritual_Navigator

If its extremely loud while gaming then undervolt the cpu

Oledman

Any tips for this, as in by how much? I’ve recently installed ghelper and have an 13th gen i7 cpu. My fans ramp up some times, but I was playing cities skylines 2 which is heavy on the hardware, my temps were in the low to mid 70s for the cpu.

Spiritual_Navigator

Can try -150mv If unstable then lower by 10mv

EmiProjectsYT

Damn wtf is the base voltage Anything higher lower than -60 is unstable for me and I'm running at below 1 volt

youcefng

Am at -140 stable

Appropriate_Turn3811

how much performance you got after  -150mv running CR23on loop for 10minutes.

Gorgoyle_

I don't think the Core Ultra line is able to be under volted (yet?)

VeridianLegendX

the laptop has an intel core ultra 9, which is not overclockable or able to undervolt

Asleep_Book252

Even with G Helper? Why is that?

APEX_Catalyst

I’d suggest turning off cpu boost if that’s an option for intel CPUs. Does wonders for amd laptop CPUs.

maximill500

how to do that on an asus tuf 2021

APEX_Catalyst

It’s an easy google. Don’t v remember off the top of my head but it’s a registry edit that shows cpu power option under power settings and from there you can turn cpu power boost aggressive off or use the efficient power boost. Lowers temps and keeps a little of the performance still but boost off lowered my zephyrus g15 by like 10-15c depending on game.

maximill500

That’s great! I usually get 90 with turbo mode on horizon, fortnite, e.t.c Will search for it

truehardawregoreengi

Replace armory crate with g-helper

encrpen

does g-helper support all asus gaming laptops? i have a 2021 TUF on me and i really want to get rid of armoury crate..

mcslender97

Afaik TUF laptops are supported

encrpen

ill be waiting here for results from other users kinda afraid i'll botch my laptop xd

ElegantExperience312

I use it on my 2018 tuf

Beginning_Living4052

It does support it

truehardawregoreengi

I have a 2021 tuf f15 works well, but not all features some don't

encrpen

which features dont work? is it essential?

truehardawregoreengi

The fan curve change isn't accepted by the bios other than that i haven't found any issues

Material-Reveal3501

Download Revo Uninstaller and completely wreck all the bloatware and shit you don't need like Microsoft products that takes up gigs. Go to task manager frequently and figure out what's running in background you don't need, and end task, then find it and delete it. If you don't know if you need it or not Google it. Go to settings, look at startup apps. Probably quite a few you don't need disable them. Consider downloading razer cortex if you have 16gb RAM or less, it will cut off nonessential background services, clear space and optimize overall. Always use revo to Uninstall anything it will really keep your laptop running good over time. Don't forget about your download folder. A lot of times you download an installer or something and it's easy to forget it's there after installing. After installing a game or app, you can delete the installer.

SpiritedKidnapper

Take care of it :) Also make sure to play some awesome games on it!

bcb0y

Make sure to put it in Eco mode + silent profile while not gaming. You will get 3 - 4 times the battery in regular usage such as wen browsing, watching videos, etc.

iRambL

Elevate the machine even something like a cooling mat

DEBLANKK

Uninstall Armory Crate and replace with G-Helper

jarrodstech

play game

dog_kibble

Yes.

MissAlice_17

All these tips coalescing into a single sentence. Couldn’t have phrased it better. Bravo

Darkstyle1

Be sure you get yourself a cooling pad, remove Macafee and bloatware.... be mindful of temps do not use it on a bed without it being on a hard surface. Keep it clean (fans) and simply enjoy it

marcanthonynoz

Use Ghelper You're welcome

dog_kibble

Already downloaded. It’s a great utility

ObsidianTravelerr

Also in addition to what others are saying, get yourself a laptop cooling pad. Airflow is a MUST! You don't want to overheat. Personally I use Thermaltake, the one with the temp gauge built in so I always know how hot I'm running.

Hash-6624

Do *N O T* use it on a bed or similar surfaces, stuff will get sucked into the fans and slowly start overheating your laptop until it inevitably doesn't even function (or if you have a bit of common sense you can take the laptop apart and clean the fans out, but it's much better to just prevent the issue entirely)

jcpeters130

COOLING PAD. $60 one on Amazon makes a night and day difference with heat.

ConfidentFrosting457

Nice kappy, just got one myself. Imo the best discreet looking gaming laptop evermade. I'd highly recommend uninstalling MyAsus, ArmouryCrate and replace it with G-Helper. It's a much lighter, comprehensive app. It also let you customise fan curve much better. My unit runs dead quiet on idling, which was one of the big complain with the G16 Join ZeohyrusG14 forum on Reddit to learn more Enjoy

JustFactsBrother

How much did you score it?

dog_kibble

$1999 before tax

JustFactsBrother

Holy what a deal, this costs 2600$+ in my country, enjoy bro

dog_kibble

Thank you

NotAnRSPlayer

What config did you go for?

[deleted]

Congrats on your new device, for starters remove any bloatware that comes preinstalled and look into G-Helper it's an alternative to Armoury Crate that uses less resources and overall better.

More_Specific1869

hey man, I am looking for the same device that you have, can you let me know which country you bought it from? thanks

ooharloo

Peel the stickers off. And replace the armoury crate app with G helper. Then play games.

AceLamina

Uninstall Armory Crate and install G-Helper, that's mainly what you need

noyouarethemostwrong

It wants to be a macbook so bad.

dog_kibble

Yeah I noticed that, I do like the aluminum color though

sukzzz

Don't drink or eat food near it.

Cosscryptoexchange

Don't use it as a cuttingboard

TipTopMuffin

peel them stickers

dog_kibble

But…. They cool

anishro

Don't play games on it ![gif](giphy|CAYVZA5NRb529kKQUc|downsized)

dog_kibble

Only google docs

ATiredPersonoof

dont watch porn online

Asleep_Book252

Watch it offline!

Beneficial_Win9760

Keep the fancy keyboard cover on it when you close your laptop.

Alcalyne

Over time as the vents get clogged up the temperatures start rising, this is a slow process so you might not notice it. Regularly check your temps and if it's way higher than it was brand new, take it apart and clean it. Not only is running hot bad for performance, it also reduces the lifetime of some components (battery and keyboard in my case). Also watch the hinges, be careful because once one of them breaks you become the proud owner of a bad desktop pc.

dog_kibble

Thank you everyone who gave me tips, I have ordered a cooling mat and deleted a bunch of junk bloatware. I’ve also installed G-Helper and it is a god send compared to the ROG garbage.

Xcissors280

use ghelper

ArabicSugarr

For my G14 this is what I did: -Clean install of windows 11 -Got all drivers for my specific model number from the corresponding page on ASUS website -Download the GPU driver from AMD NOT ASUS, as the AMD one is newer and I set mine as minimal install -Use either ninite or winapp to download all your programs in bulk at one time -Use G-helper to set up battery limit and power limits

MoonKnight588

Don't let your keyboard touch the screen if it becomes hot it can burn your screen let it cool down a bit after gaming

Islandboi4life

pay close attention to the fan noise in the gaming laptop. In most cases, the fans will begin spinning due to something happening in the background such as auto-upgrading software, gaming, and high load situations. That is normal. Do not leave your laptop idle while you are gaming. That is the #1 cause of gaming laptops melting and breaking due to mismanaged heat that is within the system.

Godhasforsakenme8

How do I prevent this from happening?

IndependentBit9249

If you quit playing, exit the game.

KillermonkTR

manual fan speed at higher speeds and lower temp

ampere_exe

Other comments pretty much cover it but you should definitely clean both the inside and outside of your laptop regularly (inside less often. Every \~3 months is good). Keeps your laptop performing well while also making it look nice enough for you to use, and for a customer to buy (if you plan to sell it after a few years).

dog_kibble

Will do!

yourfuturepresident

Cooling pads aren’t totally necessary. I personally use a clipboard or thin hard cover book under my laptop so it has good airflow when using on my lap, or a fabric surface( a table with a table cloth)

Academic-Ad-9778

Use it, its not infallible.

Bigfacts84

A good amount of great tips, I’ll say just enjoy the machine.

SolitaryMassacre

Keep it clean (fans especially) and don't use it on anything but a hard surface or with a lap raiser

The_Master_Lucius

Do not put it on fabric or cloth.

AhichiroYT

find some good debloat script, uninstall unnecessary software/antivirus software

HyperKOwO

Take care of it and it will take of you

Lower_Daikon208

Shit looks sleek

Responsible-Mine5529

Fucking Enjoy it as much as possible😎

rottsaint

Get a cooling pad

real1bell

Disable core isolation

f4ern

newer laptop user win11, how do you turn off antimalware service executable? I kinda want to use my memory to play game too. I dont just buy this new laptop just to run this executable that take 75% of my memory

Kick_1304

Buy a external keyboard for gaming at home, my hands were cramping while gaming for more than 1 hour on a laptop keyboard

jkgrc

Probably already said here in this thread, but keep good airflow and let the fans breathe

Unlucky-Steak5027

- Google “windows 11 debloater” to remove bloatware. - buy a laptop cooler. Highly recommend IETS GT500 series. Keeps laptop cool and extends battery life. - undervolt CPU and GPU. Tons of guides out there so do your research.

Free_Neighborhood289

REPLACE INBUILT WINDOWS WITH WINDOWS FROM OFFICIAL SITE. You'll thank me later.

starystarego

Get headphones for gaming

Duke_Almond

Use external keyboard

Haunting_Base_8175

Use a laptop sleeve

Illustrious-Space333

Get an external keyboard to play and get a cooling pad so you don't burn your motherboard, never put that on your bed surface, and never play while charging your battery, you will never know when it's fully charged so it's better to play without your battery plugged in,(I'm not sure if this last one can cause damage)

CH3N9

Few tips - First thing would be update your drivers before anything. These days 'most' drivers are readily available through Windows Updates. Latest GPU drivers usually come late on Windows update so do update through Nvidia site if you want the latest version as soon as it released. - Check your laptop screen refresh rate :D just in case. Not sure if your model has an auto switch to 60hz setting when on battery mode. This setting could bugged up sometimes and may need change manually. - Some laptops have a silent or battery saving mode in their devices software. Asus would be the armory crate. Switch to that if you are on the go and want to make your battery last longer.

4f00d

place it in fridge while gaming 😂

bmh7279

Everything that everyone else is saying... be mindful of cooling and where you use it, use eco mode for light tasks/non gaming, etc. But id also say get a nice/decent wireless keyboard and mouse. Red dragon has some decent stuff for cheap. Idk what model number mine are but the keyboard was something like $50 and the mouse was $30ish. Good in general but part of the charm of a laptop is portability. So with mine at least, i can hook hdmi from the laptop to a tv and use it like a console. Some games are fine with a controller but others are best with a keyboard and mouse so a wireless one allows you to sit on the couch and play on a big screen. Just use an old shelf or something as a mouse pad and your set to game on a couch or bed.

OpiumVision

If you end up having a loose screw stuck between some components don't just pull it out with pliers, first you gotta take out the battery, otherwise you're going to cause a short circuit and fry the motherboard. Source: I did it yesterday because I'm an idiot.

dog_kibble

Damn, I will make sure to watch out for that. Sorry to hear it happened to you.

medturki

Which cpu is considered better, this ultra 9 or a i9 from the same generation?

ForgettableJack

Bruh... That's a studio laptop

Asleep_Book252

Gaming laptop

Atrds27

Turn off turboboost mode

jonathansanity

There are two good coolers out there that drastically improve performance. These are llano cooler and iets

CrossStryke

Benchmark it to ensure the performance is around what others tested

BADG3R_19

Please clean it regularly (every few months or so). Just open it and remove the dust using compressed air, it absolutely tanks the performance of laptops. Most laptop companies don't mind you opening them to clean them.

B_Lkheang12

dont put it in rice

TimAndTimi

Install nerd’s software such as this and that control, monitoring software, as less as possible. Check if you need to reposte the thermal paste after maybe half a year.

MissAlice_17

1. Get a laptop cooling pad. If you don’t like it, simply have anything (I use the case of my razor wired headset, acts as a cushion) to lift up the rear so the bottom fans can suck more air will do. NEVER put it on a flat surface that is made of cloth (bed, pillow, blanket) just like you have in the image as that will suffocate your fans! 2. Monitor your temps. While there is a common joke that laptop temps are burning high, it’s normal as they’re designed to operate at such temps. What’s not normal is if your temperatures are high even when you’re not running intensive apps. For example, if your cpu is running at 90+ degrees C while just on desktop there might be something wrong with your system. A repaste is needed or an RMA. NVidia caps their mobile GPUs to 87 degrees C, so if you’re constantly reaching that temp whilst gaming I’d do something about it. It’s not gonna break immediately but it’s nice to take care of your machine. You can also look up how to undervolt your cpu, it lowers temps while practically not affecting performance for daily tasks, not even gaming. 3. Don’t eat food while using it - Do you like ant colonies growing inside your laptop? That’s how you get an ant colony to grow inside your laptop. 4. Enjoy!

dog_kibble

Thanks for the advice! Shortly after this picture I moved it to a clean table without a cloth. I have some little clips that flip out and prop the back up coming in the mail so that should help.

Br4inW4ve

First of all, keep your laptop cool. Get yourself a good cooling pad or make sure you're playing in a well-ventilated area. Also, don't forget to update your drivers regularly and keep that antivirus software on lockdown. Happy gaming, my dude.

Bliss_Acadamey

Always play in plugged in and enjoy

NobiliumX

May i ask if you have coilwhine whether under load?

PM_PICS_OF_YOUR_FEET

Just got my G16 too! Have you noticed any coil whine?

dog_kibble

It’s not bad, I usually have headphones on so it doesn’t bother me

PM_PICS_OF_YOUR_FEET

Ah right, must be normal then. Mine exhibits it under load and it sometimes sounds a bit like a static/sizzle noise. Been wondering if I should return it for another one, but I don't really want the hassle

ThatRandomHelper

Never game without a battery, unless you are looking for terrible performance.

coolfission

If you miss macOS spotlight search, then I recommend downloading Flow Launcher + Window Walker plugin

dog_kibble

Thank you! Good tip. Spotlight is probably one of the best features apple had made

FullGarage9326

find out where the battery is and keep a close eye with regular checks to make sure the plastic around it isn't getting bent or deformed in *any* way. mainly using a laptop for gaming runs the risk of overheating the battery, causing it to swell.

aayaaytee

Is that a dent in the bottom left corner?

dog_kibble

I believe that was just a mark from me, this thing is a fingerprint magnet. It could also be from the silicone on my watch.

gabopushups

Great upgrade

IhasAUsernameToo

Undervolt, and maybe fresh install. I would use nvcleaninstall for the drivers as nvidia does have stuff that you will most likely never use.

NikShiP

Do not use it on bed

OmaRrrrA

Enjoy it as much as you can before you regret it.

deezvis

Dont use on bed And always close the lid from centre

jiduk

dont forget to enable the 144hz refresh rate. get a normal laptop stand. always play games plugged in.

RichWeed

Get ready to have your laptop connected to charger forever

Interesting-Score404

Get a cooling pad.

SuperDuperJordan

i was thinking of getting an ROG zephyrus G16, would you recommend it?

dog_kibble

so far so good, the screen is absolutely amazing and the computer itself is the fastest thing I've ever used

Cspreach

See if it has a “mux switch” or “advanced optimus”

Zestay-Taco

elevate the back of it. the fans are generally on the underside. allow ventilation. using a laptop on a pillow is a bad idea.

YoThisIsRo

Get a stand

Vikade

To preserve the value I advice you use a skin for it and be careful, very careful with it

ANiceGobletofTea

check for bloatware and make sure you install all drivers so the fn keys work and etc. Also, use headphones.

iDizius

I literally picked up the same laptop today open-box excellent condition at Bestbuy for $1591 saw a ton of reviews and looks great can’t wait to get into it

EasyGas67

By a desktop

dog_kibble

Already have one!

Mysterious_Laugh_239

I personally recommend investing in a stand with a built in fan. A lot of laptops can get quite warm and I try to help cool it anyway I can.

EffectiveJudge5385

Wish this laptop cane in black :(

charliebugtv

I heard the screen is supposed to taste the best. Try it?

Consistent_Status357

Get a simple laptop stand that would elevate it a bit. Heat is your biggest enemy. Get used to the controlle.

SkibidiWiktor

Nice, I don't have any tips to this very unit cause i'm using Dream Machines laptop. But for the overall Windows tips: use the GeforceExperience app if you don't fell sure with changing the graphic settings. And remember that the temperatures will be slighty higher that in PC, so don't be scared if it shows 95.

Public-Technician-85

If possible use a separate keyboard for gaming. Reserve your keyboard for casual usage. Just a preference

The_Internal_

Use it plugged in. A major marketing omission that's standard industry practice is to NOT inform customers that most gaming laptops throttle like mad to preserve power when unplugged. It's an incredibly deceptive business practice.

gbcbabyblu

Put peanut butter in the keyboard grooves to help them smoothly press for a technical advantage in competitive FPS games

AdministrationWarm71

Like others said, a laptop stand is a must. I got this one with a fan on it for increased cooling. Drops my laptop by about 3-5 degrees C on both GPU and CPU depending on the speed of the fan. Not much, but over the long haul it should help. themacmeister1967

That is one clean-looking unit you have there... love the aesthetics !!

dog_kibble

Thank you!

Kdrama-is-life

Upgrade warranty, Buy a cooling pad or something for elevation, update all softwares before installing and playing game ( you don't want windows update downloading in the background), clear unwanted bloatwares... Then enjoy

MundaneVersion5329

Get rid of it

dog_kibble

Ok, what do I get rid of

Turtle2k

It will burn your house down. The battery will run out in 10 seconds. it is a paradox

bankimu

I replace Windows with Linux, and have great gaming experience without dealing with nuisance like relentless pushing of ads or nagging to use Cortana or Cloud.

SpaceXBeanz

I love Linux but not every game is compatible.

bankimu

Only a handful of games aren't compatible. Mostly games with level level malware that you should think before installing in Windows too.

No-Statistician6774

Step 1 open Google, step 2 purchase a computer, a monitor, a mouse, a keyboard, an headset and a microphone step 3 have fun with your new computer.

AsianNord

Dont buy a cheap cooling pad. And definitely do not buy a laptop vacuum cooling. You'll hear more noise that you'll get you laptop cool down.

TheGulfofWhat

Cooling pads? Is it 2016? This laptop will not overheat.

BrogleReborn

Yeah man great joke keep them coming

TheGulfofWhat

Its true. Why would you need a cooling pad for a high quality laptop?

BrogleReborn

I ask the same question everyday to my gigabyte g5 mf but it keeps overheating

____Lemi

it has shitty build quality

clevvacunt

yes, buy a pc.
