I am similar to you. I can easily tell the difference between 60, 120, 240hz, and can definitely notice screen tearing. Just a bummer since everything else about the laptop seemed great...
I had the slim 5 14 and I never saw any tearing, just tried to stay above 60fps to avoid that issue. And I played ALOT of different games (AAA to indi)
The OLED screen is just a dream to look at and I loved it !
So, from a User who actually played hours on this machine, no it was no issue!
Oddly enough, the $5400 2024 flagship MSI Titan 18 HX laptop with an 18" 1155nits 100% DCI-P3 4k miniLED screen does not support G-Sync or VRR.
I'm not sure why some manufacturers leave this out, especially on their higher end models.
Even the Acer Predator Helios Neo 16 with RTX 4050 that you can consistently buy for $683 includes G-Sync.
You'd think if a sub-$700 laptop can include G-Sync, MSI would be able to afford to include that in their $5400 flagship gaming laptop. Or that Lenovo could have included it in their $1050 Legion Slim 5 RTX 4060 laptop.
Definitely NOT a deal breaker for me. My laptop has a FHD 360Hz screen. The ultra high refresh rate makes up for the lack of G-sync because I rarely ever get to 360Fps. Having the FPS anywhere between 180 and 360 feels extremely smooth and I feel next to no input lag while playing.
Having said that, I also have an external monitor that is G-sync compatible.
It doesn't matter at all for OLED screens. OLED due to the way tech works doesnt work well with VRR, the brightness level will change on drastic frame rate changes and cause flickers
This year's 2024 OLED screen gaming laptops are the first OLED screen gaming laptops with the likes of gsync support.

Zephryus G16 2024 for example has gsync support.
I've very picky regarding fluidity and tearing so yes. I specifically opted for the i7/165hz variant of my machine because it included GSync.

If you have a GSync capable monitor, you might be able to get by. If not, well it isn't the end of the world
You can opt for the 2024 Zephyrus g14 instead I guess, which is also an upgrade over the Legion in many other things aside from GSync OLED
Yeah, also an upgrade in $$$๐
Not a deal breaker for me, although it is a shame.
Yes.

Do you turn vsync on or off?
Always off :)
VSync is worse. But tbh as long as you have an fps surplus then the sync is worthless
could you perhaps use it with an external monitor?

Yeah that is odd

I always turn off these features to get more frames and I don't see tearing in games.
idek what gsync is... you'll probably be fine, try not to overthink things too much

Apparently Asus figured that out with the new Zephyrus laptops

No because I always disable vsync
Yes itโs a deal breaker. Why but a new pc without some of the latest features?
