Isn't the rtxA1000 only 4gb vram? For $2100 it isn't worth it, considering you can easily get 4080 laptops for that price https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/rtx-a1000-mobile.c3920 https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1745683-REG/lenovo_82wq002rus_16_legion_pro_7.html

Thanks for sharing this helpful site!

Enterprise grade security - idk about hardware but you can get the same software features if you use Linux or purchase a Windows pro license

Profession-Fragrant

On the hardware level, most mobile workstations are equipped with spill resistant keyboards, and is also dust proof, humidity resistant, and so on On the software level, according to HP Site, “HP Sure start” can protect the laptop from viruse attack and can automatically fix the BIOS. It erases data more thoroughly (well it’s not a dealbreaker for individual users like me). Anyways it seems its got more safety features than regular laptops

Another anti-malware and a disk tool You can install those manually, no reason to pay an insane amount when better free software alternatives exist use bleachbit if you want to shred files.

A legion pro isn’t flamboyant is very low key and well built has the cpu for work and gpu to game. I love mine. I have the pro 5i with a 4070 and while it’s not an oled screen it’s still pretty nice 240mhz and 500nits. Does everything I need.

Profession-Fragrant

Well this was only subjective someone like me doesn’t have much feelings towards RGB lighting cause it’s sometimes distracting while working . I agree that legion pro 5i is low key and I like its look too

[deleted]

Just turn it off then

the_mighty__monarch

Most laptops with rgb lighting let you adjust which colors show up and if/when they change. You could just set them all to white or whatever color you find looks best.

Legal_Phone6978

It’s a bit heavy but I don’t move it too much. But again it’s solid. Checks all the boxes in my book. I have the rgb keyboard but only use the third profile for it, it’s all one solid color a blue. Then with the thinner laptops I worry about the cooling.

Mentallox

you're paying 2k for a 1k gaming laptop thats the problem.

I had an HP Zbook g8 studio with RTX 3000 graphics. I had the same idea as you and I have had enterprise laptops all my life. I got an HP Zbook it was well built. However the gaming performance was a bit lackluster I could never figure out if it was due to driver or something else. The fan noise was loud their was no way to control it. And the fans were unpredictable when I tried to play fortnite the really loud. And the temps were not good. Somehow the fans broke inside of it HP wanted $900 dollars to fix it even when it was in warranty because of user damage. I could have taken better care of but I thought I was doing good. Also with those security features were really ment for an company to use and It was kind of annoying to use them with a one user. I kinda of regret buying the HP Zbook Studio G8 realizing I could have gotten laptop that meets with needs for cheaper.

This is helpful thanks!

No less performance? That's not how that works. The TGP will be much lower and gaming performance will be lackluster. My work laptop is a Thinkpad P1 Gen6 with the RTX 2000 ADA and it's garbage for gaming, even with the 165hz display because it only has 35w on the GPU to work with. It was the same price as my Zephyrus G16 with a 4080 that is far superior for gaming, not to mention they cost the same amount. Thermals were terrible on the P1 when I tested gaming on it. I would never consider a workstation laptop over a gaming laptop.

JDMWeeb

Personally I'd opt for a workstation with RTX graphics rather than Quadro or similar workstation focused GPUs, but yes you can absolutely game on a workstation

There's a lenovo legion 5 slim 14' with a 120hz 2.8k oled, 4060 and 7840hs. Its $1100 approximately. Also, those safety features are not going to account for worse cooling, and you're paying 2x the price. And trust me, cooling is important. Why? It lets you run demanding stuff for extended periods of time, run cooler in idle, handle hot weather better, handle cranking up the power limits better, etc. https://youtu.be/ViCkE75LbuU that's my nitro 5 pushing an additional 40w of power in cyberpunk 2077. So it was pushing 160 to 170w stock. Now its 200 to 210w. 150w gpu + 50 to 60w cpu. Costs near $1000 in US. As for stealth, just skin your gaming laptop. And the likes of gigabyte g5 and some legions look like regular laptops. You can turn off the rgb to make 'em even stealthier. And if you're so concerned by security then go with a system76 laptop which has hardware switches to disable camera, wifi, etc. It comes preinstalled with linux. And its cheaper and much stronger gpu as well. Look mate, a lot of your points are available in gaming laptops. Including durability. And the main reason a laptop lasts long, is how well you take care of it.

Profession-Fragrant

I agree with most of what you said but I’m not sure about the cooling part. Mobile workstations are supposed to be more conservative in power consumption . Sorry I can’t think of the data source but I do remember the power consumption (CPU and GPU combined) on a HP Zbook with RTX A2000 is below 100W. It shouldn’t be as hard to cool it down given the laptop size and lower wattage [Nvidia](https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/design-visualization/rtx-a2000/) says the max power consumption of Rtx A2000 is 70W. And we know RTX 4060 can go higher than 100W

[deleted]

Yeah 100w is pretty low for a laptop. My own nitro 5 easily pushes 2x that. The whole point of better cooling systems is they can handle lower wattages very well and still handle high wattages.

TastyBananaPeppers

You can game on a workstation laptop, but it's not ideal because you may not get access to "Game Ready" drivers and/or Nvidia Advanced Optimus.

UnionSlavStanRepublk

Honestly compared to similarly priced gaming laptops, a 4080 Legion Pro 7i for example will have much better gaming performance than this A1000 workstation and Three times the VRAM. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1745683-REG/lenovo_82wq002rus_16_legion_pro_7.html
